Happy Project Runway Day!

It's a national holiday now! Or it should be, anyway.

Y'know, there's really nothing to add to this. The pictures do all the talking. Well, the pictures and the press release:

"WHAT: In celebration of Project Runway’s return to New York for its 7th Season, Tim Gunn and Nina Garcia join city officials and fashion industry representatives at street naming ceremony in front of iconic “Needle Threading a Button” sculpture in New York City’s Fashion District where Fashion Avenue will be temporarily renamed, Project Runway Avenue.

NYC & Company, New York City’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, will also present a New York City Proclamation deeming Wednesday January 13th as Project Runway Day, highlighting the show’s contribution to New York City’s fashion industry, in anticipation to the premiere of Season 7 on Thursday, January 14th on Lifetime Television. City officials will speak about the critical role the fashion industry plays in New York City’s economy.

WHO: Project Runway mentor Tim Gunn, judges Michael Kors and Nina Garcia will join NYC & Company CEO George Fertitta, Lifetime Networks CEO Andrea Wong, Deputy Mayor of Economic Development Robert C. Lieber, Fashion Center BID President Barbara Randal, and several of Project Runway’s and Models of the Runway’s past and current season contestants.

WHEN: Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 11:30am - Project Runway Avenue Unveiling

WHERE: Intersection of 39th and Fashion Ave (Seventh Ave)
Needle Threading a Button Sculpture"

Of course, silly little bloggers that we are, we had to stay home and "work" so we can "pay bills" and "eat," so we sent our Project RunGal Gotham Tomato along to take pics. Lucky for you (and us), GT is a talented photographer (we have two of her pieces hanging in our kitchen and gave another to Tom's mother for Mother's Day last year - GT, she LOVES it, by the way). Thank her for these fabulous pics.

Fabulous!!!
and I want La Nina's jacket!!! gorgeous!!!!!
for a moment I was confused and thought that it meant the show started today! :-)

I guess PR can NEVER leave NYC. Hurray!

Where's Mrs. Seal?

Hooray for Laura, fabulous as always! Alta

Thank you, GT!! Love Laura's hair.

Awesome!!!

WOW! I really think that Season 7 will be the IT!

TDinC

SO COOL.

Laura looks fabulous!

bitchybitchybitchy

Great photos from GT-what fun to know that PR is back where it belongs-NYC!

They're pulling out all the stops in promoting this season. I'm looking forward to tomorrow evening, for sure.

Wonderful pix! Thanks so much, Gotham Tomato, for all your efforts. Really super output.

Boy, doesn't Tim photograph marvelously? And I am in complete accord on Laura's hair. As another gal who embraces short hair with a passion, I say, well done, Laura!

And others of us in the general vicinity have to labor for "food," "shelter," "utilities" and "internet connections," too, Tom and Lorenzo, so you're in good absentee company.

All the best,

NDC

I forgot to say: Laura's hair is fierce!!!

What, no Heidi?

Also does anyone else think that Laura's head looks oddly out of proportion in that photo? I think it's the fuzzy top and the disappearing arm that do it.

Love Nina's jacket (she always looks great!) and Laura's hair. Maya is gorgeous - wow. Thanks for the pics GT!

Michael, we all love you and think you're fab, but could you ditch the aviators for just one photo? Not that i have a quibble with them...you totally rock them. But it kind of creeps me out that we can see your eyes behind them when the camera flash is on.

ugh La Nina is so fierce i love her!

Awesome!!!!! And I had fucking class.

oh my- now this is how to BE FABULOUS in winter weather! *taking notes*

great photos GT! thanks for representing TLo/minions.

Trying to figure out why CH looked different/better and realized it was because she ditched the 15lbs of eye makeup. Yay for CH!
JMB

Love this! Nina looks fabulous : )

only michael could be so tan in the middle of winter.

have to go over and check this out after work!

I can't wait!!!!

Laura -- love the hair! And I like CH's "fringe" too. Nina -- there are no words, you are just amazing.

Thanks, GT, for the fabulous photos! Wish I'd been there too but I'm all the way on the other side of the country (thankfully not in L.A.).

Great pics! And Miss Austin's resemblance to YSL still gives me a start.

Not it matters much, but why every time Malan Breton got mentioned here, it has to be followed by "from Taiwan"? Did he change his name?...

LOVE Laura's hair and her little boy backpack.
SOooo looking forward to this season. I have a good feeling about this one.
~sandy

I just wanted to mention, that I didn't shoot the first 2 pictures (which, with my editor's hat on, are the best ones, IMO).

And I wanted to add that when I asked Tim Gunn if I could take his picture for Project Rungay, he said, 'For Tom & Lorenzo, ANYTHING!!'

And when I asked Nina the same thing, she said 'Yes, it's one of my favorite blogs', and then pulled Michael Kors in to get in the shot.

--GothamTomato

Awesome props to Gotham Tomato for the photos. I was planning on going before my class and woke up with a fierce cold. This is a purring kitten now. Well, for now until that shite of a LML show is on later.

Laura looks fab with the pixie doo! And hello to Peppermint Patty!! And the Fab Three are looking more like themselves. How did Frau Seal and Lifetime think PR would be at home in LA is beyond me. NYC is fashion, darlings.

Thank you Gotham Tomato for the great pictures!!

I want Laura's fuzzy white jacket.....

...and also wanted to say a big THANKS to Tlo for giving me these chances to be their roving reporter! It's always a lot of fun!

--GothamTomato

I didn't recognize Carol Hannah without all that black shit on her eyes. Nicely played.

What an amazing day. Had I known about it, I would've totally ditched work and gone to NYC for the event. Seeing Tim, Nina, Austin, Carol-Hannah and Malan Breton from Taiwan would've been a mind blowing experience. (No Heidi?) Great photos, TLo & GT. Makes me want to create my own little scrapbook for PR.

"Happy Project Runway Season 7 Eve, everyone!"

edina

Andrea is wearing Tim's overcoat in Pic 5. Tim is the ultimate gentleman!!! But did Andrea not realize that this was an outside event? I am all for fashion, but please, everyone should know their limits.

Peri

Kalyn,
Before you leave the house, look at yourself in the mirror and take one lb. of makeup off.

"bitchybitchybitchy said: what fun to know that PR is back where it belongs-NYC!"

Yes, and that was a big part of the theme of this event. There is currently a drive to Save the Garment Center (if you watched the recent HBO documentary, it states the reasons in an amazing way).

After the NYC officials spoke and talked about programs to support young designers and revitalize the district, Tim, Nina & Michael each said a few words and all mentioned how great it was to be back in NYC.

Tim mentioned how great it was to also be back at Parson's & Mood. And when he said that NYC is the fashion capital of the world, he got big hand from the crowd.

--GothamTomato

I love Laura's pull-over. Is it fake fur or knitted angora?
Qrystil looks pretty fabulous too.

Woohoo!!!

Thanks for rovin' reportin', GT.

I want Laura's pullover (her new haircut is fabulous, too!) and I want Nina's jacket!

Was Michael hanging out with sailors again? 'Cause he stole one of their jackets.

Who cares where Heidi is! She's probably back in LA, grumbling about having to do this new season in NYC.

The Dutchess is looking less orange, which is a good thing. I just wish he's lose the shades and wear a real color just once. Nina is always fabulous, and Mr. Gunn is incomparable, as usual. It's also nice to see some alums here, too, especially from last season since they weren't in NYC for it, except those who made it to Fashion Week.

Thanks for the photos, GT!

Oh my God, Austin! Love.

Thank you, GT! Your photos are excellent.

Nice, GT!

I pass the button all the time, I can't wait to see. Seeing Austin just makes me happy. He's fabulous.

TLo -- I'm sure you're already on this, but please let us know who made Nina's jacket when you find out.

Brava, GT!

To those who asked where Heidi is: there's no PR-related reason for her to be in NY (and doesn't she live in LA?).

quigley (the cat)

Thanks GT, your pics make us all wish we coulda been there!

NEW YORK CITY TOTALLY GETS IT! This is the way to honor a show that has promoted fashion and the public's interest in fashion. Whatever we may think of individual contestants, episodes or seasons, Project Runway has also become an iconic show and deserves this kind of accolade.

love 'n hisses,
QTC

"Project RunGal Gotham Tomato"

What a great title. I am thinking that she should be a character in the Project Runway/Rungay comic that Alex should be selling to us.

Ms. Bennett's hair does look good, and I note that Ms. Wong & Ms. Garcia demonstrate how to wear slacks, be podium-appropriate and still knock them dead.

Thanks for this little glimpse into a way different business than I usually see.

OT: I almost forgot to ask if it had been mentioned that Tim did a guest spot on "How I Met Your Mother" this week? Very cute episode with a sub-plot involving Tim as Barney's tailor. Yay, Tim!

Simply. Fabulous. Thanks to GT for the great pics!! And of course, thanks to TLo for posting this!!!
Everyone looks wonderful! Love Laura's hair! Makes me want to run, not walk to the nearest stylist and order a "Red and Pixie"!!!
Nina's coat is gorgeous. Not that I could ever afford one like that, but WHO is the designer???
Welcome Home, PR!!!

When I saw Austin in the "PR Gang" picture lurking in the background, I wished there were Where's Austin? books just like Where's Waldo. Wouldn't it be fun trying to spot the Princess?

I LOVE Laura's hair. And could Michael Kors be any more orange? No. No, he can't.

I didn't recognize Carol Hannah without all that black shit on her eyes. Nicely played.

I thought the same thing, Tam!

C'est moi, c'est moi Lola

Thanks for the pics GT!

Loved Miss Austin in the greatcoat!

Looking forward to an another PR season and TLo's blog. Hopefully this season is better than the last now that it is back in NYC. Ms. Austin is REALLY sucking in those cheeks!

PR puffery is not my favorite recreational activity, but this one exudes love, relief and a big armful of "Welcome Home!"

Plus, Malan Breton showed up. He makes me happy, whether he's from Taiwan or Bedford, Indiana.

Nina, Michael & Tim are ultra fab. I absolutely love them. I love what they have to say, I love what they do and of course...I love what they wear.

Can't wait for tomorrow night. The Project Runway posts are getting me super excited!

"Jillian said: Kalyn,

I thought she looked gorgeous & natural. And she has perfect skin. Everyone there was made up for the TV cameras, which is more make up than one would normally wear.

--GothamTomato

In picture 3 it looks like Michael Kors is wearing Austin's hair. It looked good on him.

Fabulous photos, GT! Nina looks amazing, and Mr. Tim looks as stylish as ever. Love the scarf! That's how men SHOULD dress, but so few actually do (at least in my neck of the woods!) I must go home RIGHT NOW and program ye olde DVR!

I love Miss Austin...but I do think perhaps she is channelling a little Norma Desmond in that photo.

Oh, I love the big mean pixie look on Laura!

Well done, GT, we shrivel a bit in envy.

are you sure that's carol-hannah? she looks at least ten years older in that picture!

must be all the years that new haircut took off laura <3

Thank you, TLo, for dispatching the fabulous Ms. Tomato for this excellent coverage. And thank you Ms. T for doing all this for us no so bitter kittens. We are vicariously fabulous. As was Ms. Bennett's hair. As a short haired person myself, I bow down to the shorn red locks.

Where's Heidi?

Fabulous! And I think Carol Hannah looks adorable, as does Laura with her fierce red pixie. Project Runway, I beg of you, never leave NYC again. Repeat after me and click your stilettos three times: "There's no place like home ..."

BookieBookie

boys & GT. thanks that was just enough to brighten my day. cant believe our show starts tomorrow!

LOVE IT!!

Can we have auditions for Project RunGals? Kinda like Charlie's Angels? =)

Can't wait for TLounge!

Leave it to Tim to be ever the gentleman and give Andrea Wong his coat.

Great pics GT! I'm very excited for tomorrow night now.

I thought Austin was Hillary Clinton. No lie.

Great pictures, GT. Thank you for the post, Tlo! You guys are the reason why I still watch this show.

I'm so jealous, Gotham Tomato. Second time you meet Nina Garcia. Good for you : )

Poor pasty-faced New Yorkers (except for Laura, who as a red-head should be pale). Mr. Kors in his shades, longing for some sunshine.

Daffodils poking up here in Los Angeles.

Do the Bad Guys like Wendy Pepper and Victorya and Kenley never get invited to these do's?

Mariana (The Unoriginal)

I can't wait for tomorrow. This post made me even more excited about tomorrow.

YES! Project Runway is back!!!!!!!

I love Austin, he should have his own show.

No, NEVER!

What a happy, happy post!! Gotham Tomato, I'm so jealous. I wish I could have been there with you! Laura looks faboolious! Love the hair. Austin looks great, they all look great - I'm so psyched!!!!

Thank you, GT. Great job : )

Miss Austin!!!! Oh how I miss him :'(

And is it just me, or does The Duchess look even more orange-ier than normal?

the third picture is such a quintessential nina face
its the total like "are they really gonna make me stand out here in friggen 25 degree weather so i can listen to this bitch talk? and can someone get me a goddamn CAFE AU LAIT!?!?!? is that too much to ask?"

and in terms of laura, is that le bebe that she was pregnant with on pro run?

Anonymous said...
and in terms of laura, is that le bebe that she was pregnant with on pro run?

Yes, isn't he adorable? I believe his name is Finn.

Love the post, guys!!! Thank you Gotham Tomato.

Wow, this looks great. I'm so excited for tomorrow's episode. Let's hope we have a great season.

Where's Mrs. Seal?

It's a little shitty that Heidi wasn't there.

Fabulous, and thanks GT for the great photos.

Laura looks beautiful.

But here is a question: in her blog on The Daily Beast, Laura wrote hilariously about her very illegal and spontaneously combustible Japanese hair straightening treatment--is the new do a result of her hair breaking off in great big chunks?

Suz

Laura looks great, love her hair like that.

This is from Fox:

"Heidi Klum will turn a New York street into Project Runway Avenue on Wednesday to mark the reality TV show's return to the Big Apple.

The show's hosts Klum and Tim Gunn will join New York City officials at a ceremony to kickstart the forthcoming seventh season, and temporarily rename a section of 7th Avenue Project Runway Avenue.

City chiefs have also agreed to make January 13th Project Runway Day, to mark the show's contribution to the city's fashion industry.

The new season begins Thursday."

Was Heidi supposed to be there?

I can't wait to see my beloved Tim Gun once again!

Does Miss Austin age?

They look great! I have to say, winter is my least favorite time of the year. They all look like they're freezing.

How nice! I can't believe a new season starts tomorrow. I can't wait to read you recaps, guys.

ConstantDater

I'm so jealous. Thank you for the pictures, GT. Great shots!

New episode tomorrow night you guys! SO EXCITED!!!

It's a fantastic documentary and well worth everyone's time to watch.

Oh, and thank you for the post and pictures, GT & TLo!

Man that does look like fun, I should've gone. : (

Jonathan is so cute : P

Thanks for the photos and the reporting Project RunGal !!!

Is that "Baby" Finn on Laura's back !!!

Sewhat?

I thought I noticed something different! My boyfriend will be ecstatic to see these pictures. He is forever sworn to be CH's biggest fan, whether I like it or not. He will agree that this lack of makeup is a good thing.

I AM SO EXCITED FOR TOMORROW!!!!!1

********
I'm with you. I didn't miss her AT ALL! I loved seeing everyone else and the alumni. Tim, Nina, MK all looked great. Love Laura's hair as well. Re: Mrs. Seal, to be honest if I never saw her "I would wear that"commentary and mean comments to the designers (Gordana) again on this show that would be fine. thank God we're back in NY!
Nice job on the photos GT!
Can't wait for tomorrow night!

Is Laura wearing white mink? She is just so above caring about animal welfare, isn't she, darling???

It's a vintage mink coat she bought in a vintage store and remade into the piece she's wearing here.

I adore both Michael Kors and Nina Garcia, but both of them are wearing HIDEOUS jackets here. Just the worst!

But thank God Project Runway is back in New York City, just as God intended it to be.

Laura does look adorable in that short haircut. It makes her look very young, too. Fabulous!

Heidi was on Leno.

What I noticed - especially in the first few cast photos was all the black (and a little gray). Don't the New Yorkers usually claim that the people who complain that NYes are addicted to black are all wrong? :)

What the hell? Michael's wearing a classic pea coat. How is that "hideous?"

I guess it's a matter of taste because I love Nina's jacket. It's a gorgeous jacket!

Love the photos. That shot of the street sign from below is gorgeous.
Everyone looks nice. Nina look particularly fab (of course). Jesse somehow manages to look smarmy in his photo.

"fashiondna said: I love Nina's jacket. It's a gorgeous jacket!"

Yes! When I was watching them do the presentation I was thinking how gorgeous it was and that, if I got the chance to speak to her, I was going to ask her where she got it. But then everything was so crazy at the end that I forgot.

--GothamTomato

GT - thank you for capturing this for us. Love the pics!

CH does look lovely without the coon liner.

Wonder if Laura Bennett would remake my vintage mink too? Hmm...

Thanks for the awesome pictures, GT :). How adorable is Ramon?? I'm still sad that he got kicked off so soon last season. And can we have Austin come back for a challenge again this season? It is always great to see him.

Awww. Tim gave Andrea his coat in that last group shot! What a sweetie.

It would be so tacky to ask someone like Nina Garcia where they got an item of clothing. I shudder at the thought.

Not really, anon, at least not in the fashion industry. It's very common to ask who you're wearing. And most of the time, they are dying to tell.

"anon said: It would be so tacky to ask someone like Nina Garcia where they got an item of clothing. I shudder at the thought."

Her entire career, editing a fashion magazine, is based on and telling women what to wear and where to buy it.

--GothamTomato

GT, as always, you rock. And you are answering snipes so smoothly. Thanks for being there, for TLO and us minions.

Were all the season 7 contestants there?

If not can we infer anything by who was and wasn't there?

In pic # 4 you can see the image of Heidi on the side of the bus in the background. At first glance it looks like everyone shoved Mrs Seal to the back like they don't want her in the pic. Hee!

Heidi was on Jay Leno last night, so she wasn't in NYC.

great story as always guys.
nice job on the photos GT.

like everyone else commented, that is a beautiful jacket Nina has on, any updates on where it came from?
What a fun day! Great to see the alumni, didn't even miss Heidi, love Laura's pixie cut, and have high hopes for this season.

PR never leave home again!

Carol Hannah looks like Nicole Sullivan with her bangs. pretty.

Hope Miss Scarlett makes an appearance this season...would be fun to see him as a judge. Wonderful pix of him.

good to be back in NY!!!!! yay.

Wow, nice to see Carol Hannah without 15 pounds of thick, black eyeliner.

I wonder if she saw herself on TV and was like holy crap, that's a bad look for me.

Sorry C-H, I love ya, but it's true. You look a thousand times better without that stuff. You can finally see your pretty blue eyes. :)

Gorgeous! Audrey Hepburn had a mink pullover, I wonder if that's where La Laura got the notion.
Did she give any deets where she had it remade? It's fantastic!
I won't wear animal fur myself but it's better to recycle & refurbish fur than to make it into refuse.

O Lord! I'm so excited. I jumped at the sight of Austin! He is channeling Patrick Swayze's character in "To Wong Foo Thanks for everything, Julie Newmar". Nina's hair is to die for, too.

I am so stupidly happy. Seeing Austin Scarlett being all Austin Scarletty is just the most perfect sauce on my delicious NYC-flavored Project Runway cake. Yays.

Isn't that Anna Wintour in the background over Nina's shoulder in the pic of Nina and Michael?
