The Witch is Back!

Boo!

Darlings, our favorite hair witch is back tonight on Bravo with the premiere of the second season of Tabatha's Salon Takeover at 10/9c. We never need an excuse to chat with her, but we figured now would be a good time. She's so incredibly sweet you wouldn't believe it. Seriously. As long as you're not a hairstylist or salon owner doing a shitty job, she's one of the nicest people you could meet.

So nice to talk to you, how are you?
Good, very good, so nice to talk to you guys again.

Are you excited about the new season?
I’m really excited. It’s really good. I think the philosophy is a little bit different, the stakes are a little higher for a lot of the salons and there’s a lot of drama, which everyone loves. Given the economy and some of the predicaments that some of the salon owners are in, it’s really dire for a lot of them. There’s some really unmanaged businesses out there with some really crazy behavior.

What’s the most appalling thing you see at the salons?
Well we all know how I feel about dirt. I see that all the time and it drives me crazy. ANd I think I went into the filthiest salon I've ever seen in my life.

What areas are you guys covering this season?
We did three in Chicago, three in Florida and the rest are here in LA.

What are you doing in LA, by the way?
I’m here for the premiere. There’s a premiere party that Outfest is sponsoring tonight.

That’s exciting. How does it feel to go from being a contestant on Shear Genius to having your own show and heading to a second season?
It’s fantastic. You know, what? I couldn’t do it without everyone, like you guys, talking about it and everyone watching it. I’m really blessed. I can’t tell you how amazing it’s been, and how much fun it is to go in and do a takeover, so it's great.

Well, helping professionals and salons is nothing new for you. You’ve been traveling the world doing this for a long time, right?
It’s nothing new, I’ve owned my own salon for 8 years now. I work for Joico traveling around teaching other hairdressers… I mean, building a business is a huge part of it, whether you work in the salon and you have to build yourself up, build up your name and your reputation,or if you decide to buy a salon or be a salon owner, you need to have all the business skills there and I think that’s one of the things that we see that on the show, people going in half blind and they don’t know what the hell they’re doing and problems ensue

Do you think management is the main problem with those salons?
I think it varies. There are certain situations you’ll see this season that it’s the owner and the manager, but there are also situations where it’s just the staff totally out of control. It’s definitely a trickle-down effect. The management is not taking care of everything properly or the owner just doesn’t care and that’s the message that they’re sending to the staff and the staff is not going to care either.

Being your second season and a lot of people knowing you already, are they still scared of you? Do they still think you’re a bitch?
They’re still scared of me and they also think that I’m a bitch [laughs].

[Laughs] Do you think it has to do with your strong personality and the fact that you’re a woman?
I think part of it it’s because I’m a woman and no one else knows what to do, except call a strong, assertive woman a bitch, and also the fact that I don’t pull any punches, I tell the truth. I don’t hold the salon’s hand, I don’t have time to it, I really do want to help them and I don’t have time to kind of soften it. I tell them the truth and I try to get results in the shortest amount of time that I can.

How’s your salon in New Jersey?
It’s doing really well. I have a great trained staff and I have great management. It was hard because I was away for a long time and everyone did a really fantastic job of keeping everything going for me. It’s nice to be back and doing clients.

You’re also working on the development of products.
Yes, I’m working on a product line which is something that I’m excited about, working on something to bring out to clients out there.

Any trips planned?
No, unfortunately, this is it for me. This time in LA is my vacation.

You just got back from Australia, right?
Yes, but you know what? Especially now, it’s really hard because of the holiday season and clients want me so I can’t leave.

Speaking of clients, what would you consider a perfect haircut?
It’s the one that suits the person. It’s working with the hair type, the hair texture and the lifestyle and the look of the client so that everything just works together. I don’t think there’ s any one perfect haircut, it depends on the individual.

Well, that's it, Tabatha. Thank you so much and good luck with the new season.
Thank you! I love you guys!

It's a fun show, can't wait to watch!

I have her on right now! Can't wait for the new season.

I love her show because her knowledge and expertise reach beyond the hair world and apply to so many service related businesses.

Looking forward to tonight's premiere!!!

EspeciallyGay

LOVE. HER.

She's awesome, love her show!

I like her: The Gordon Ramsay of the beauty salon world.

And the nose that MJ searched his entire life to make for himself.

Whatever happened to Sheer Genius? Tab was on the first season, and got this show from that, then we had last season, and the pfffft...I'd love to see it come back (but not "Blush," that shit was just horrible).

Glassbead937

Awesome!

Yay! Tabatha's such a positive human being and a pleasure to watch on television because, quite frankly, she makes for GREAT entertainment. Looking forward to the premier!

I love her.

I just re-watched the "Images" episode. I think I'll save that on my DVR forever. It just never gets old.

love the white witch. looking forward to the show!

I do like this show, but I question if anything actually changes or if these people just want a FREE remodeled salon and FREE publicity.

Even though I know she goes back after a time to see what's going on, I wonder where are the salons/owners/stylists from past seasons.

Oh, and I'm totally with her on the filth issue. I walked out of a salon that had inches of dust on the mirrors and globs of hair in the (not clean) brushes and all over the floors. Years later, after they've moved locations, I still won't go there and never will. They've lost thousands of $$$ just from me.

Tabatha is FABULOUS! Thanks for this, guys!

I never sought this show out, but I caught it a few times while channel surfing and was mesmorized. Those salons were like train wrecks and when Tabitha arrives, you can't look away. :-)

"I hate hugs" and I just love her.

Skilled, pleasant and a pure joy to watch. What's not to love.

I do agree that we need another word to describe strong, confident women, although I no longer use it in it's pejorative sense.

OMGILOVETABATHA!
Cannot wait for tonight!

(btw, for those who watched Rachel Zoe...I'm excited, I just ordered my own ridiculous DVF pom pom hat last night!)

Patchworkblu

She's awesome and she does help the salons.

Love her show, thanks for this interview, guys, you two are so good to us : )

HellsKitchenDude

YAY!!! TABATHA!!!!!

C'est moi, c'est moi Lola

Tabs!

I hope I can get home in time to watch!

I agree with ovarB that her show applies to any service business, but it also can show customers what to look for to differentiate between "meh" salons and fantastic ones, and why an $80 haircut is different than getting one for $11.99. Oh yeah, and the drama with CRAZY owners/managers too!

Love her!

Thanks to Tabatha, I now look around in a salon before I decide to make an appointment there.

About a year ago, I had an appointment at a salon for a pedicure. When I walked in, I saw big dust piles in the corners and overflowing wastebaskets. I could hear her voice in my head and I turned around and walked out.

If I didn't already love my hairdresser, I'd love to let her have at my hair.

YESSSSSSS! I've awaited this for ages!

Love Tabs and can't wait to watch season 2.

YAY! I got totally addicted last season - glad to see her back!

Separated at birth........Tabatha and Kate Gosselin??

I JUST got sucked into the marathon that Bravo is doing right now. Not only is it keeping me from doing paper research, but it's making me really excited to get my hair cut tomorrow. I'd curse Tabatha, but...this is much more enjoyable than researching Anglo-Saxon architecture

YAY!! I love Tabitha and so happy she is back with her new season!!

bitchybitchybitchy

Aah, another of my guilty TV pleasures is back!

i'm not dorothy gale

I liked her when she was a contestant on America's Next Top Hair Model or whatever it was. She had a forceful personality that dwarfed the other contestants, so I'm not surprised she has her own show.

god this pisses me off, i can't see the videos you guys post just because i'm out of the united states :(
love you btw and love tabatha too

As a Tyson fan, I'd be very hard pressed to call her "sweet".

But there's no doubt she's at the top of her game and she's good at what she does.

I find the few shows I've watched, just... boring. How many times can you go into a salon, point out the things that are going wrong, and then refurbish it?

I really love the show and appreciate the insight gained from watching. However, I wish Tabitha would reign in the potty mouth. It's very unprofessional.

Other than that, bring it on!

Hutchlover said:

Heh heh heh. I say this with love...because I know Tyson had fans:

Next time we're debating why a "bitchy" woman is bad and a "bitchy" man is funny, we must remember Tabatha vs. Tyson.

Even while season 1 was airing, I think more folks came down on the side of loving Tabatha -- the "bitchy" woman. So it's not really about gender, it's about the whole person. Yay!

"Salon Take Cover"--ha, that's probably what the salon owners feel like!

Love the Tabatha. I don't call her a bitch, I call her efficient.

Metamorphine

Can't. Wait.

YES! Thanks for reminding me, guys.

Mariana (The Unoriginal)

She's so cool. I loved season 1.

LaFemmeFataledeNY

Love strong, confident women : )

Ugh. Hate Gordon Ramsey, not liking Tabatha either. Constructive criticism is one thing; getting in people's faces and making them cry is another. I realize that the latter makes better television, but I'm sure not going to be watching it.

Now that PR is gone from Bravo, I can safely say that this is definitely my favorite Bravo show!

Wut? Wait...

She's bitchtastic. Love the way she's all business when she does the evaluations and isn't afraid to tell somebody they're lazy, unprofessional, or lack necessary skills.

I'm glad she doesn't soften it. Those idiots who are driving their businesses into the ground NEED a verbal bitch-slap to wake up and pay attention.

Tabatha is my hero.

Ditto!

And her bitchiness isn't even offensive, because you know the recipients need an instant dose of harsh reality. Plus, nobody, but nobody, can be inattentive or ignore her after the first few sentences out of her mouth.

Also, it's like she's reaching out to us (the viewers) with that verbal bitch-slap. Once she starts talking, I'm just riveted to the screen. The sheer force of her personality and her drive to communicate her message is very compelling.

And it is so funny to see the initial resistance of people who have become comfortable with doing a subpar job. You just know she will squash and stomp them if they give her any lip and that she will win any battle of wills hands down.

And there is nothing more interesting to watch on reality tv than a well-deserved stomping.

Except for Kors and Garcia on Project Runway, of course!

Just watched the new ep and yay for my adopted home town Chicago!

Wow - that Lindsay person is a piece of work. She was horrid. Not sure how she can think that chucking tantrums on national TV can land her another paying gig, but sure, go ahead, it's great watch the train wreck!

You know what I love the most about Tabatha's shows? How everyone seems to think that by calling her a bitch, it would make her cry. HAHAHAHHAHA! Yeah right, as if!

The best line of the ep: "I may have been born an arsehole but I'm really good at what I do."

She makes me even prouder to be an Aussie =)

If you're in Chicago, Orbit is in Lakeview, near the Belmont Red Line stop. Go see Miguel, he's the cute bearcub in the episode who didn't get any lines, but got lots of screentime (The camera loves you, Miguel!) He's fabulous with hair!

Tabitha fan from Finland... The thing I love about her is that she is a straight talker and shows good business sense. It shines through that she actually wants to make these salons a success and is giving them the tools to do it. It might not be fun to hear the blunt critiques, but if the people are humble enough to listen, they actually are noticably better.

So nice to see a confident, smart, sassy, and competent businesswoman who leads by example, not just from shouting from the sidelines.

So happy she got a 2nd season!

MouseAnony said: And there is nothing more interesting to watch on reality tv than a well-deserved stomping.

Ha. Ain't it the truth. And she does it so well. I love her.

Tabatha gives me hair envy. Mine used to look like that. *cries*

I sat with my eyeballs wide open for most of the episode last night because I could not believe what I was seeing on the screen. Cannot wait for the upcoming shows.

Tabs, keep doing what doing what you are doing!!

Aww, I fell asleep early and missed it! Love this woman and looking forward to this new season.

OMG that show was HILARIOUS!!!!

Thank God they let Lindsay go! What a bad egg!

Lindsay reminded me of boot camp, there's always one person who reacts like that in front of a Drill Sergeant.

My stylist is in the same town as Tabatha. He tells me she used to come into his salon, during work hours, to poach his employees.

Tacky Tabatha.

So, where the hell is Sheer Genius?? I'm jonesing for that show.

Victoria Paige: Wow - that Lindsay person is a piece of work. She was horrid. Not sure how she can think that chucking tantrums on national TV can land her another paying gig, but sure, go ahead, it's great watch the train wreck!

A drama queen with no talent. Bleach over double 40 volume color? Yikes. There are easier and faster ways to give someone a buzz cut.

On the other hand, I loved the receptionist. So sweet, and crying her eyes out.

Yeah. Bad form, but not surprising.

I heart this show. Love love love it. And I love that I actually learn things during this show that help me in my own business. There's a lot to be said for someone who will come over and pull no punches telling you why you're loosing money. Tabitha, if you ever want to do a takeover of a chiropractic office, call me! :)
