The things you'll do for a paycheck.
There was much frantic discussion at T Lo International Headquarters both last night and this morning, the upshot of which was "Um...what the hell are we going to write about?"
In an episode where the height of drama was Carol Hannah puking in a hotel room, what the hell are we going to say about it? But for you kittens, we'll soldier on.
We found ourselves wishing they'd spent more time on the cat.
Blahblahblah...Tim critique. Who guessed the collections correctly? We did!
Boy, Carol Hannah does have a tendency to go a little far, doesn't she?
Tim, you couldn't take your jacket off?
A note to any potential season 7 finalists who are reading this: when Tim visits, make him do housework. Apparently, he's open to it. We look forward to future scenes of Tim vacuuming and folding laundry.Hey...y'know? There might be a series in that. We're on the phone with Lifetime just as soon as we're done writing this. Instead of prissy gay men coming into your home to redecorate or re-dress you, they'll just come in and quietly do your housework. The gays won't watch it, but we bet a lot of women would.
This is to remind her of her name when she wakes up every morning.
Ahhh, Tim back in his element.
We actually kind of loved the t-shirt idea.
And is it us or is it a little disconcerting that all the women in the Shabayeva family look EXACTLY alike?
Later, Tim goes to rescue a young senator's daughter who has been kidnapped and forced to live in a hole in a basement, where she rubs the lotion on her skin.Oooh! Another brainstorm! A TV show about prissy gay men who hunt down serial killers! As soon as we're done writing, we're calling the FOX network.
Because what television genre wouldn't be improved by the addition of prissy gay men?

It looked like Althea needed the most hand-holding out of the three of them because none of the pieces she showed Tim impressed him (or us) all that much.Anyway, it's Fashion Week!
And what happens when you put two competitive girls in a room together?
Absolutely NOTHING! Not once did either of them say what they were thinking. BORING!
Carol Hannah's illness would have been a lot more dramatic if she came in and threw up all over her competitors' collections. It was the only time we were a little on the edge of our seats, hoping it would happen.
Again, this scene would have been improved if CH just spewed all over the table, Exorcist-style.
...Or all over Nina and Michael...
And ESPECIALLY all over Heidi's sparkly top and shit-eating grin. We were REALLY hoping to see that.
Surprise! SHOCK!
Bleh.This concludes our commentary on the penultimate episode.

now we have Buffalo Tim Gunn saying "It makes it work, or it gets the hose. Yes it does, Precious!"
*giggles*
How do we win Bryant Park, Carol Hannah?
We....we....
Think Carol Hannah. Wow me...
...we edit?
Yes. And how do we begin to edit?
We edit...whatever ages our models ten years!
Indeed. Ru McClanahan is not your muse. Quid pro quo, Carol Hannah. I must have the recipe for those biscuits. Where's my apron? I desire biscuits...biscuits with some collard greens and a nice chianti...

FYI, here's a clip of Chris March trying to keep awake while reporting about last night's episode on the TV Guide Channel:

Lord, for someone so upset about copying, what made Irina think she could snatch t-shirt images.
11/13/09, 10:50 PM
I'm a little disappointed, because I was looking forward to your screen caps in the Nina and Michael scene, when the three girls sit awkwardly down across from them and they all sit there like people on a blind date. Nina: Well, we're all here. How nice. [Silence] Girls: Ah, who are you again?

Not having Michael Kors's on regularly really ruined the show for me. Klum can't facilitate a good discussion, nor can she make either interesting or clever or referential or amusing commentary on the designers' pieces. She has gone all Tyra on us, and I, for one, have had it with her. Bring back Kors!!! Bring back NYC!!!
***
Thank you!
Not having Michael Kors on the show is a big drag. How clueless are the producers to shoot this right in the middle of Fashion week in NY when it would clearly create scheduling problems for Kors and NGFDMC? Fucking idiots,speaking of which:
As far as Klum goes,
If it's not something she would wear, (which seems to be her criteria for nixing an
outfit or aufing a designer) she cannot offer any kind of realistic, constructive criticism.
If she must be involved and I guess she must, as EP, then just have her do her little host gig and make a graceful exit. Get her off that judging post. How is she even qualified to judge? I couldn't stand how outright mean she was all season to Gordana and some of the others with her nasty-tone. She did not do the designers, the judging, the show, or the longtime fans any favors this season.
In fact she helped to decimate the ratings and viewership. I'm sure she didn't win the show any new fans, but really alienated many long-time viewers. Are you listening Lifetime?
Please, back to NY, back to the previous production company.
Note to Producers: Your LA experiment didn't work. The season sucked, the challenges sucked and the Model show?? meh....what a waste of 22 minutes of self-serving programming. Thanks for wasting our time.
This is not
The Real World: Project Runway as much as you would wish it to be.
11/13/09, 11:58 PM
It's two days later. I didn't watch (we were at Ragtime). Thanks for the recap. Glad I didn't miss anything (no surprise there).
11/14/09, 12:18 AM
I have an idea.
We all know Heidi is getting old and mean... so why not make Matar the new host?
No more bitchy Heidi, and we get to see Matar in all her curly glory all the time.
Everyone wins.
11/14/09, 12:31 AM
How hilarious and staged was that whole "phone call to Irina" scene anyway? ...
"Lalala, here I am happily sewing my collection, and the Bunim/Murray cameras happen to be here... oh, what's this? A phone call! Let's see who it is!"
The only real entertainment in the episode was unintentional.
11/14/09, 12:33 AM
Oh, I was really disappointed that they didn't bring back the previous models for the casting session. How lame that they used all new girls, mostly without much experience? I was looking forward to seeing Fatma, Matar, Kojii and the other models that actually had some personality.
11/14/09, 12:39 AM
Ah, the crappy ep was worth it because this was such a great post. Right up there with "Tim Gunn is tired of your bullshit" (unless I remember the title of that post wrong.) I think I mostly watch the show for Tim anyway. Nina was surprisingly good, actually. I was glad they gave Michael and Nina a chance to give some helpful advice. But I digress. Great post, guys, thanks.
11/14/09, 12:42 AM
Well, one other thing. I would nominate that Heidi-Tim liplock as one of the more awkward moments in PR history. I don't think Tim saw it coming -- he's usually more of a cheek-kiss kinda guy, dontcha think? And... kissing Heidi? Ugh.

Althea was smart picking Logan. She knew what he was capable of, and worked with him before. Just because you like Gordana doesn't mean it would be the smart choice to pick her.
Picking Gordana would be a stupid move, any competitor would know that. Especially having to work in a short time span.
You call her dumb, you're the dim bulbs.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What world are you living in? How the hell is picking Gordana a stupid move? She's a fast worker and her skills as a seamstress are top notch. She's the most valuable out of the three to help you finish your garments AND help with the 13th look. Logan's sent so many poorly constructed garments down the runway this season, it's just sad.
11/14/09, 1:39 AM
to Windsornot (or whatever)
Irina is not looking for sympathy - she's just telling her story. it's not her fault that she's the daughter not the "actual" immigrant and that her parents had more money than Gordana's or whatever. Gordana told her story as well. Geeze - the producers asked both of them to cheese it up I am sure. I think that you don't like Irina so you're just trying to see everything she does through shit colored glasses.
Althea I thought was pretty petty that she hasn't dropped what happened on the runway months prior. I like Irina - and I don't think she's the bitch everyone things she is. People who are insecure have trouble understanding people like Irina. --TF
11/14/09, 1:44 AM
I agree w/ Jules - - Gordana was the OBVIOUS choice for an assistant. That woman can sew. Logan and Chris are jokes.
Tim in the elevator was Alfred the butler going to save Batman in the 60's
11/14/09, 2:00 AM
people are not using the word HUBRIS properly. Irina isn't even close to that. And what's wrong with believin in yourself?
11/14/09, 2:35 AM
I've been wondering all season if the serious lack of energy hanging over this season had to do with the jump to downmarket Lifetime, but now I am thinking there's more to it and that this awkward season was a transitioning kind of thing and next season (hopefully) will be better, though I still miss the production values of Bravo. I'm thinking that grey cloud hanging over the season had to do with the legal wrangling all through taping; maybe it's the real reason (instead of the LA thing) why we had so little of Nina and Michael. In fact, we had so little of them this season it seemed kind of superfluous and odd that there they were this week, giving "advice." Maybe they should have done that earlier? I mean, the collections are done.
There was this listless, almost embarrassed air to this season and I won't miss the show during hiatus like I usually do. Hope it improves. It's sad to see a network kill a favorite show.
11/14/09, 3:17 AM
Tim Gunn doing my housework would be the best thing ever!
11/14/09, 3:34 AM
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Why don't we assume they all came from somewhere, they did a 13th look with a previously auf'ed cast member, just show the damn collections and spend more time on the judging? I'd rather have them bring back the reunion show over this crap.
11/14/09, 7:23 AM
It's amusing that Irina was called out on copying images because according to NYMag.com, her Reasons to Love New York [Because Madonna is back and so on...] came from their site. Like... all of them.
11/14/09, 8:01 AM
Best Moment???? Finding out the dog at Mood's name is SWATCH!! :))
11/14/09, 8:03 AM
Hey T and Lo: are you going to do a post where you show every outfit that Althea, Carol Hannah, and Irina have made this season and dissect their style? I really enjoy those posts every season you do them. Thanks!!
11/14/09, 8:17 AM
I guess I'm in the minority in that I don't think this season is boring at all. I love when the contestants are supportive of one another. Life is so crazy and angst-ridden, the last thing that entertains me is personal strife--anybody's personal strife. I'm really only interested in the clothes. And while the challenges were not as interesting as they could be--producers' fault--the contestants were pretty good, I thought, especially the women. Would love to have seen what Shirin and Louise might have brought to the runway if they'd been around longer. They SHOULD have been around longer. Judging did suck--I'm definitely with you there.
11/14/09, 8:46 AM
I hope the guy who did the Tim Gunn Superhero comic is reading this and he partners with T and Lo on his next serial. Tim gets reconstituted into an archaeologist / college professor / FBI profiler solving crimes polysyllabically and with lots of cuff fidgeting. Of course the bad guy will be a swimsuit model with dark roots and a high-pitched German accent.
Poor Chris March, the very definition of cruel and unusual punishment, making someone with sleep apnea blog this season, hopefully it pays well.
I want to be mad at Nina's inane comment about the how too much black is problematic, as if there is anything that can be done at this point, but since the visit was totally contrived, I can't be too mad at her for grasping at something, anything to say.
11/14/09, 9:44 AM
I want Tim Gunn magnetic 'paper' dolls for my fridge. I want to dress him in an apron, flip flops, classic trench, Duchess' Halloween costume, etc. Fun, fun.
11/14/09, 11:13 AM
Jules-You really don't understand Althea's pick?
Think about it:
1. Little time, knows how Logan works, found him easy to work with; no drama in a highly charged atmosphere. Why go with an unknown.
2. Looks like she's working on pants, Logan makes pants, has Gordana all season? Don't know, maybe neither did Althea.
3. Gordana's friend on the show is Irina, come on do I need to say more?
4. Althea's at Bryant Park, Gordana isn't, do I really need to spell this out to you?
11/14/09, 12:02 PM
I second whoever suggested making Matar the new host of PR. Matar has a brain, a spine, and guts- as shown when she stood up to the Pumpkin Pie guy and actually asked questions before doing anything.
Matar would be a fantastic host. And she has great taste in clothes- and in everything.
We love you, Matar!!!
11/14/09, 1:04 PM
Has anyone else noticed how bad Heidi's wardrobe choices have been this season? It's like she knows she should start dressing in a more age appropriate way, but isn't sure how to do it-- so she just adds in some matronly looking items along with the micro-minis. The sparkly tops, the pink pantsuit. Very MOB, as the Duchess would say.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I understand her pick based on the fact they worked together previously, but he has shown consistently that HE CANNOT SEW, especially every time he's sent a pair of pants down the runway. As for that "no drama" comment, Gordana goes in that category as well. And as for the "Gordana is friends with Irina" thing, I'm honestly not sure what you are insinuate there. What, Gordana will attempt to sabotage Althea's collection to ensure Irina's win? Is that it? Because if that's it, you're making assumptions of someone's CHARACTER based off a heavily edited reality TV show, especially of a person who's not given you any reason to think she was intentionally do something underhanded. I'm sorry, but looking at the final collections, how poorly constructed Althea's collection is what will loose her this competition. That's also the reason there was such an uproar over the times she won and the fact she was chosen for Bryant Park over Gordana. Because her garments are so poorly constructed.
And yes, PLEASE spell it out for me. This entire season has been filled with cracked out judging that makes absolutely no sense. As others pointed out in other posts, if the judges actually judged who went to Bryant Park based off what they presented as the final challenge, there shouldn't have been any reason Gordana was sent home over Althea. It doesn't matter whether you LIKE Gordana's dress or not, as the judges even admitted, her piece was what most fit the challenge. It was the clear winner. And the only thing they had to grip about was a ZIPPER.
Look, you can chalk me up to being all "TEAM GORDANA" but you're sorely mistaken. I was Team Christopher from day effing one and still am. My backing Gordana, especially in this case, is due to over a decade of me working as a seamstress. I know what I'm talking about when it comes to construction. I'm also someone who can judge without letting personal feelings get in the way. Like Christopher, although I love him and his aesthetic, I'm not blind to the fact that he sent some awful down that runway. So please, don't make assumption about me just because you think I'm a raving Gordana fan because I happen to think she was the best choice to help get work completed.

Oh I am so with you-I would buy these in a heartbeat!
I wonder how they decided which auf'd designer to bring back as assistants-obviously Logan and Chris fill the role of the cute male designers, but it ould be interesting to know more.
I caved in and watched the repreat of this episode Friday night-it's still all a big meh for me.
For a variety of reasons this season has been lacking.

LOL
I am so on board with this! He would look dignified and bemused in every get up.
--------
bitchybitchybitchy I caved and watched PR again, too. (I had some ironing to do- heh) And to top it off, I watched MOTR which had also been DVR'd.
MOTR is worth seeing for the moment when Heidi asks the models how they like the clothes the designers have made for their final collections. Heidi has the weirdest sneer (it's the only word to describe it) on her face when she asks that question. What is with that?
I would like to read Heidi's version of events for this season. Has anyone run across any interviews where she discusses this season of PR?

YES!!! He must come with shirts that have cuffs that can move up and down and a voice bubble that says "Egads!"
Nina's comments about an all black collection are ridiculous given Christian Siriano's collection. I just caught that rerun on Bravo and it's almost all black, especially the first 6 looks. C'mon, Nina. That's hypocritical. All black didn't hurt Christian. (Though I must say, I did buy Christian's banging short aqua booties at Payless. I fucking love them!)
11/14/09, 4:36 PM
It's funny, as I was reading this post, I'm also watching Silence of the Lambs on, yes, the Fox Network. Spectacular, boys.
11/14/09, 4:54 PM
Tim was ADORABLE. :)
11/14/09, 6:33 PM
Forgive me if this has been mentioned before, but am I the only person who thinks that little visit from Nina Garcia and Michael Kors was meant as something of an intervention? It reminded me of the kind of stuff teachers and portfolio advisors tell you when you're 17 and preparing to apply to art school. Like, they didn't quite think of this group as being up to snuff as much as past contestants.

Well, no knowledge about their prissiness or lack thereof, but at one time my mother's network of old ladies (really past living in their own homes but hanging on for as long as possible) competed like hockey players for the time of a gay couple who ran a cleaning service in her (mid-sized, southern) town. What they loved best? "Not only do they really clean, but they're strong enough to move the furniture!"
11/14/09, 9:46 PM
Leela, you nailed it - the Nina/MK scene. I don't know if it was just edited to look like an intervention or if it actually was - but it was so STIFF and uncomfortable.
The look that passed between Nina and Irina was like ice.
It does puzzle me, though, to step in at the very very last minute. Not much anyone could do to change their collection at that point.
11/14/09, 9:53 PM
Irina has a dog named Princess. Of course she does. Say, one of her family names wouldn't happen to be Djugashvili? Just wondering.
11/15/09, 10:18 AM
They may have made him suit up and help with the cooking, but at least they fed the man!
I still can't believe Althea/Althea's family didn't feed poor Tim Gunn.
11/15/09, 6:25 PM
What, may I ask, in THE HELL was that?
11/15/09, 7:02 PM
Could we as PR fans make a request?
Can the next season start immediately so we can at least forget about this shiteous season sooner, repress it and then only remember it after a long session with a therapist 10 years from now.

I guess this is why Bravo always had an elimination challenge in the penultimate episode for season 4 and 5. You can't always get a Wendy/Kara Saun fight, so they add an elimination to up the drama factor.
I enjoy the home visits, even if it is low key, and enjoy more time with the designers and less trying to manufacture drama. I thought the visit with Carol Hannah was really cute.
I admit this has felt like the weakest season of PR thus far, but it had a lot of obstacles to overcome. Hopefully now that everyone has figured out what's supposed to happen, season 7 will bounce back.
