The Tom & Lorenzo Archives: 2006 -2011
Our current site is here: www.tomandlorenzo.com

Congratulations!

Last night, a cry of joy went up in the land.

Lorenzo, because he is so very Lorenzo, screamed out loud when her win was announced and Tom said, "They must be going ballistic in T LOunge right now." And of course, you all were.

Lorenzo said he hates challenges like this and Tom said "Really? I love these so much more than watching them pick out fabrics in Mood." By the end of the episode, Lorenzo had to admit it was a pretty good challenge. Not just because our girl won, but because for the most part, the designs were pretty good (or at least interesting). The show always works better when things are made difficult for the designers. Frankly, we didn't know how any designer could possibly make that hideous collection of synthetic dresses look like anything chic.

She got an awful lot of screentime last night and when she called her family, we looked at each other and said, "She's getting an edit." We were a bit scared it was the loser edit but couldn't see how it was possible since she seemed on track right from the get-go.

So, congrats, girl! This was long overdue.

And well-deserved. Could anyone possibly look at that and figure out that it was made from an old wedding dress?

We loved the way she arranged the strips of material and we loved the frayed edges.

We also think the back works very well and we especially like the neckline.

This works on two levels: one, because no matter its origin, it's a chic, edgy look that stands on its own, and two, because there was a nice little story told by the dress of someone who puts the past behind her and opens herself up to something new and a little risky.

We have two slight criticisms (come on, it wouldn't be us if we didn't). The fit wasn't exactly spectacular. Now, that could have been due to the client's own body, because even though it's a little loose in the middle, it nonetheless flatters her. It's possible that a tighter fit wouldn't have worked with her. That's a minor complaint, though. What really bothers us is the terrible styling.

Look, she won it, didn't she? Clearly the styling didn't hurt her too much and it did drive the point home that this dress was a little edgy. But, the boots and the hair (especially the hair) are so not the best way to show off this dress.

It forced the judges to say, "It's edgy but I can see how it would work as a chic dress," when they should have been saying the exact opposite. Still, like we said, it didn't hurt her, even if Heidi seemed pissed that she won it. "Good job. THIS TIME." What the fuck was THAT, Heidi?

Finally!!! Good for Gordana. I thought she really brought her A game this week.

Really great -- and I like the color a lot! Not to jump ahead, but I was shocked that Peppermint didn't get called out on his outfit. The pants looked as bad as Logan's.

BRAVA! *stands to clap*
I missed the episode last night so I'm very relieved to read that she finally got a well-deserved win!

yay for gordana! it's about time.
i was so glad irina's lacy mother of the bride horror didn't win, especially because heidi gets wet panties over everything she does.

Maybe it was the editing, but did it seem to anyone else like she whipped that dress out in, like, forty-five seconds and then spent the rest of the time feeling sad about her kids? The dress looks like a lot of work, and she had it done in nothing flat while others were struggling over finishing less complicated and much less successful looks.

It just shows what incredible technique she has, and what an advantage that is on PR. That dress was amazing. And, really, I didn't think the hair was so bad, though I cringed a bit at the boots.

I really liked this dress and thought the challenge was AWESOME. I am so weary of the "here's a dress, here's a dress, and here's well, a dress" challenges. And I disagree about the boots. I think they were an important addition to this outfit because it forced the judges to consider the dress in another light. Pumps would have been a safe choice. Boots were not, and they were a real nod to the client without sacrificing Gordana's esthetic.

YAY! I was so happy for Gordana and the dress is really cute.

So glad Gordana won! That win was well-deserved and long overdue. But seriously, what's with the Heidi bitchiness? That was obnoxious.

I'm glad Gordana finally won one and got some love. But you are so right about Heidi being catty to her. Why doesn't Heidi like her? It seemed clear Heidi wanted to give Irina the win, but the others must have overruled her. Way to go Gordana!

Does anyone remember the episode a few seasons ago where the designers had to remake the favorite outfits of clients who lost tons of weight? ONe of those women had a wedding dress. I was surprised the designer (can't remember who it was) didn't think to make sexy lingerie, and I was surprised again this time, although maybe lingerie from a divorcee's wedding dress would have been a little bad karma or something.

Seriously, what is Heidi's problem with Gordana??

You are so right about the styling. Riding boots belong over jeans, not under dresses! The dress is super cute though. You could tell that the woman loved it. Hopefully they will let her keep it!

Also, bravo to those women for still fitting in their wedding dresses!

Hurrah! Long overdue recognition and a well deserved win for our gal! I was happy to see Gordana in the top — and totally noticed that backhanded final compliment from Heidi.

Yeah, we'll get to Irina's from-bride-to-wedding-guest dress transformation later.

Wasn't this same challenge featured in past PR Canada or Australia?

Good job Gordana!

I actually screamed in joy at the TV when Gordana won. From the comments and earlier editing I thought Irina might actually pull off a 3rd win, especially as the judges were gushing over her dress more than Gordana's (and it was a good job). YAY!!! Yeah, what WAS that BS "THIS time!" that Heidi acidly spit out. She is really turning into Queen Bitch. She probably thinks it's picking up the Nina Slack but it's not nearly as constructive as La Nina and frankly far more bitchy for bitchy's sake, which is just rude.
But I digress...

Okay, to be discussed at a later post in more depth, but was anyone as dumbstruck as I was when Epperson was auf'd?

Finally, you knew from the edit Shirin was going to pull something outta her butt at the last minute, but personally I thought Dr. Whitfield's dress far more beautiful and deserved Top 3. Shirin deserved middle of the pack, no higher...

But to end on an up note: YAY GORDANA!

Yes a deserved win. It is the best thing Gordana has made so far. And it is the first garment I really felt that I saw her POV in the design.

And as bitchy as Heidi's comment may seem, she brought up something in the judges conference that she's taken issue with Gordana. She doesn't think Gordana was taking risks. Here she felt she was and it paid off. I know people haven't liked Heidi giving her hard time for it but it is a valid opinion. Iman has been like that with contestants on PRC after all.

It's funny how for the first time I felt the Models show felt like a true extension of the main episode with divorcees going out the models and the business with Tara. Baically 90 minutes of Gordana related business.

Frank

YAY! YAY! YAY!
Heidi is so rediculously bitchy, and it so OBVIOUS that she's being like that to make up for the fact that she is a terrible judge without MK and NG.
Isn't it funny that now that MK is back those who were on the top are on the bottom and those who were on the bottom are now on the top.
Except, Irina's dress, maybe it will look better when I see photos. That was awful, no? NOT flattering on her model and the color was so OLD.
The judging is still a bit wonky but it's getting better, and maybe when Nina comes back we'll be able to sort it all out.
Christopher's wasn't really all that bad. MK does NOT like him! He'd better watch out.
PS
I didn't watch MOR
Why did they instruct all the ladies to walk like that? Did pumpkin pie show them that assery? Especially hard to watch Shirin's model., and WTF Christopher's model's hair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YES, austingirl--I said the same thing about Irina's dress, it's a mother-of-the-bride atrocity. I thought for sure she was one of the bottom three, not the top!

"Tlo said: "Good job. THIS TIME." What the fuck was THAT, Heidi?"

Jinx! That is EXACTLY what I thought. You could see how it killed her to say it too. She's not used to having to say or do anything she doesn't want too.

And congrats to Gordana!

--GothamTomato

FINALLY!!! YEAH!!!

Was anyone else dying to see Irina's reaction when Heidi announced Gordana? Lord knows I was..that girl was eating the inside of her cheeks! LMAO.

I don't remember any prior episode in any season of PR where one look after another was so awful. In my opinion, there were only two decent looks on that runway, and this was one. But the two were standouts in a sea of mediocrity, and in another season would likely have been safe, not top three.

Still, Gordana did a great job and deserved the win. She really transformed the dress into something chic and flattering, with a little personality. Brava.

Yeah Gordana! I love this dress!

BTW, in that first runway picture, the divorcee is totally Uma Thurman on her way to kill Bill. I may be coming around on the boots.

Re Styling: TLo, I thought the same thing, but the boots did play to the edginess of the design. Personally I would have put the hair up to showcase the asymmetry of the top, and kept the boots (tho a different color other than black would have been preferable). It's just nice to see Gordana's beautiful work finally get recognized.

I'm just so happy that Gordana got the win. She's got amazing skills....

Congrats, Gordana! I'm so glad that was the winner edit and not the loser edit ('cause I have no idea how to tell the difference). And yeah, that was a bit much from Heidi with the "THIS TIME". With attitude like that from the judges, Gordana is fighting an uphill battle - and for no good reason.

And there was much rejoicing.

"Tlo said: Lorenzo, because he is so very Lorenzo, screamed out loud when her win was announced and Tom said, "They must be going ballistic in T LOunge right now." And of course, you all were."

Yep. Same thing; Like the moment when Cher won her Oscar, and suddenly you heard loud cheering spilling out of windows all up & down the street (of course, I live in Chelsea, but you get the picture).

--GothamTomato

Loved the dress, hated the boots! I thought the boots might knock her out of the running for the win.

You know what? I can't wait for next weeks show! One goos episode and I'm right back in it. I never could hold a grudge.

Dude what is the deal with Heidi this season? I'm loving her less.

I just knew when Gordana won (I really feared Irina would again and her look was not my favorite--plus she's kind of turned into an ass) that the crowd would go wild.

In other news, I was afraid that Shirin was getting the loser edit.

It's about time. I thought this dress was the best of the bunch by far.

But, boy, you can feel Heidi's dislike of Gordana radiating out of the TV screen. "You did a good job -- this time": a rather nasty put-down barely masquerading as a weak compliment. Wonder why? Gordana has certainly produced some good looking clothes and nothing particularly heinous, unlike other more tongue-bathed contestents (I'm looking at you, Irina).

I am so glad she won. This episode had me feeling schizophrenic - elated for Gordana, totally pissed about Epperson.

I turned to my husband during her phone call and said, "When they call home they're either going home or winning the challenge." What a relief to have her win.

Yes, I caught that snide little "THIS time." What a bitch. There's definitely some strange hostility there.

And was our Mean Girl tearing up because she didn't win? For that hideous creation? I mean, come ON.

Ally said:
"Seriously, what is Heidi's problem with Gordana??"

I like the theory that's been floated that Heidi was trying to be more of a personality on the judges' panel this season, perhaps because of its weakness compared to previous years. And she just can't figure out how to do it - she's not entertaining enough and doesn't offer enough *constructive* criticism to carry off the attempts at cutting zingers.

Beyond that, well done Gordana! Kudos for color, frayed edges and flattering fit. (I DO think several of the designers did not get enough credit for fitting their non-model clients in a flattering way). I was a little disappointed that Yet Another Little Cocktail Dress got the nod from the judges - but at least it's not a surprise, and it was a creatively accomplished little cocktatil dress.

Yay Gordana!

When I stopped yawning and looked up to see Gordana crying on the phone, I said out loud - "winner's edit." That's how they showed Laura in Season 3 (episode after she got slammed by the judges): crying on the phone, then turning it around to win the black/white challenge. Great dress, though...but please, some kind of new challenges? This Season's challenges are pale, stale borrowings from the past.

Oh, I'm so glad you called out Heidi on the judging. Her "you did a goog job, this time" comment was such a slap in the face to Gordana! Seriously, what do the judges have against her?

She has quietly become my favorite designer, and now I'm TEAM GORDANA all the way. She rocked it last night.

YEAH!

Actually looking at the extended clip, Heidi was not being that bitchy or obnoxious..not really. Her "...good job this time" statement was preceded by her mentioning the criticism she would get from previous challenges. I read Heidi's whole comment as her feeling Gordana overcoming an issue she's had with her in the way she's approached the challenges

Again I get why people love Gordana and I understand people getting upset with Heidi. but it really doesn't seem like it's personal or Heidi being bitchy for the sake of it.

Frank

"Divorcees." Who the hell uses that word anymore? Why couldn't they say "clients," for god sake?

And were all the models slender (unlike in any previous "real" challenge) because it's L.A. or because they had to be able to still fit into their wedding dresses?

Yay Gordana! Her dress was amazingly beautiful and I loved the frayed edges being incorporated into the design. Yes, Heidi is really getting on my nerves with her annoying shout-outs to her pets and snark-outs to her non pets. Boo Heidi!

FRank, while I agree that Heidi may be dumping tough love on Gordana, there have been many, many others who played it safe too. Or played the one note card way too much. Often in the same episode. So I don't think that's 100% of Heidi's MO- I think she's just a biased bitch!

Now please bring on the thread about Ep's auf. THAT is a bigger shocker than G's win. And THAT is the reason I lost sleep last night.

Kathe123

I'm thrilled Gordana finally got the win! On the other hand... they cut Epperson and kept Logan, Chris and Peppermint Patty? The f-ery continues. Carry on!

Recognition for the talented Gordana is long overdue. If she makes it to Bryant Park, it will be a decision based on demographics. If she doesn't make it to Bryant Park, it will be a decision also based on demographics. The judges have proven themselves, season after season, to have an affinity for youth.

Did anyone notice that Uli's runway music was used in last night's episode? They either had to recycle, or it was an editing clue.

One thing's for sure: Heidi needs to call Obama, because no one else can bail her out of this horrific season.

Go Gordana!

When she said it was nice to be recognized as a designer and not just a seamstress I teared up a bit.

About time :) I missed last night's episode but I'm ecstatic to hear that she won. I think if she had used a pair of heels instead of boots that the whole effect would've been a bit better but overall I love it.

We noted Heidi's gratuitous "...this time" crack at my house, too.

Heidi, you bitch!

What happened last night just confirmed my suspicions...the guest judges just cannot stand up to the iron will of Frau Seal. Michael and Nina seem to be the only ones who can keep Heidi in check. Congratulations to Gordana for a long-overdue win!

Frank, I was about to post the same thing.

Heidi may not be doing cartwheels over Gordana, but she didn't say, "Good job... finally, you idiot." All she said was, "In the past we asked to do such and such, and you did it this time."

Anonymous 10:29, speaking of music, has anyone listened to the music played when Lifetime introduces PR? I had aerobic videos from 10-15 years ago with the same song (Cathe Friedrich and others). And it wasn't cutting edge then either.

Great job, Gordana! We love you!

YES!!!!! About fucking time!

This comment is about the Bunim/Murray editing of the runway eliminations. I have noticed a very distinct pattern to the eliminations in each episode. Middle of the pack gets dismissed first, then when they announce the winners/losers, it's ALWAYS IN THE SAME ORDER. First name called: safe. Second name called: WINNER. Third name: safe. Fourth name: safe. Fifth name: LOSER. Sixth name: safe.

Has anyone else noticed this?

woo hoo gordana! i too was worried she was getting the goodbye edit. so i held my breathe at the judging. heidi was a bitch now wasnt she?

Best. Episode. This. Season.

I could hear our collective cry across the land.

I loved Gordana's dress, and what I loved even more than that, or her getting the (well deserved) win was the look on Irina's face when she didn't. What a smug bitch! Take that, Jo!

GO GORDANA! While I think she's a long shot to win, I love her integrity and sense of style.

Heidi was a little pissy on the win, wasn't she?

I knew as soon as I saw the dress that Gordona had it. It was the only dress that really popped and really told a story. (Irina's dress, yes, fine...whatever...still not as good as this one)

Totally off topic, but was anyone else bugged by the red bra straps of the Marie Claire editor? Good God, I can barely stand it on my teenagers around the house, but on a grown woman who is a magazine editor ON TV???!

DAC

Flavio--I was trying to remember where I'd seen this challenge, too. I didn't watch Australia, so it must have been PR Canada.

"Divorcees" was cracking me up. It was like the show was taking place in 1972.

I liked the boots very much. I thought the look was cool and youthful. But the hair was pretty bad. I don't blame the stylists. I blame the haircut itself. A shag faux mullet is not flattering on anyone.

Finally a really good episode and can I say here that I screamed when I saw the preview with NINA! for next week's show.

Go Gordana Gelheusen!

As for Heidi bitchiness...I don't know, I think sometimes the fact that she is speaking English as a second language messes her up. (For instance she seems still to be using "also" slightly incorrectly--anyone else notice that?)So when she said, "this time" to Gordana, it didn't seem ultra bitchy, just sort of incorrect attempt at vernacular.

Great, Gordana won. She can slink back to the bottom of the bunch now, where she belongs.

Gorgeous dress, I love it!!

I watched it with a bunch of friends, and we all let out cries of joy when Gordana won.

What was WITH Heidi, though? It is because Gordana's German, too?

I don't have a problem with Evil Heidi, but yeah she was in top mean girl form when, not once but twice, she commented on Gordana's being in the top group as an isolated incident. I wonder if part of her antipathy towards Gordana is because G kept sticking with Tara. In my demented mind, when Heidi announced the "everyone must change models" twist, she was trying to specifically break up Gordana and Tara.

Hi, Irina!

bitchybitchybitchy

YESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So happy for Gordana's win. She managed to listen to her client and to get across her point of view as a designer, and in one day, no less.
Well done.

I'm not liking Heidi as a judge this season. Perhaps she's trying to be witty or snarky, but her comments are coming across to me as just plain mean or bitchy. I'm not hearing the kind of tough but constructive criticism that the designers can actually learn from-at least not from Frau Seal.

What was WITH Heidi, though? It is because Gordana's German, too?

She's Russian!!! ;-P

Last night, I was shouting at my TV during judging (well, less 'shouting' and more 'talking firmly', since I don't like to alarm the neighbors) sort of like I was watching a sports event... but unlike with sports events, this time it seems to have worked. :D

Congratulations to Gordana! I love this dress, and am so glad that she got the win. And, to be honest, even if I hadn't loved it, I still would be glad she got the win.

I think the thing that bothered me about Heidi's "this time" was less the words than the tone they were spoken in. I rolled my eyes so hard I think I sprained 'em, which alas didn't save me from seeing the aufing, but I'll save that comment for the proper post.

This episode was dedicated to the memory of Bradley Baumgarten, the young designer who struggled so valiantly to transform a synthetic wedding dress into a maid's outfit.

Gordana finished that dress so quickly because she didn't bother to put on rubber gloves when she dyed the fabric. That saved a whole lot of time, apparently.

She's also been divorced, so I'm sure she channeled a lot of her personal feelings into that dress.

I choked up a little when Gordana won.

I was worried she was getting the losers edit.

Oh, dear, don't get them started, she's from former Yugoslavia.

She's Yugoslavian!

Congrats girl! You deserved it weeks ago, but you did an awesome job with that Herve Leger dress.

Seriously, Gordana is Yugoslavian.

I really like the dress, but hate the hair and boots. Congrats, Gordana, darling!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
LOL!
I hate gray but the dress is cute and the client felt sexy in it. You go girl!
There is shameless favoritism by the judges in this season. I honestly thought Irina's mother-of-the-bride dress was going to be savaged by the judges. Instead it was among the winners. WTF? If any other designer had produced that exact dress, they would have either been in the bottom or sent home.
I was thrilled about Gordana's win, although I was a bit annoyed at Heidi's snarky comment when she won. She clearly doesn't like Gordana for some reason, and it shows. I do agree that the styling could have been better. I wasn't crazy about the boots with that dress, but whatever - she won and that's what counts.
Fabulous! Gordana. Gordana. Gordana.
YAY!!!!! You should have seen me doing my happy dance last night lol
Hi, Irina!"
hehehe...
I'll just say that if Gordana hadn't won I'd have . . . well, I'd have some harsh words for the tv. We all actually cheered when she won. YAY Gordana!!!
Here's what bugs me about Heidi as judge: did Gordana win because she finally produced a dress that Heidi would wear?
Because Epperson lost at least partly because Heidi would never wear the dress he made last night. EEK/STL used the word I felt - dumbstruck - when Epperson was aufed.
Bradley may have struggled (greatly) with Cher, but I don't think he ever had to deconstruct a wedding dress. That was the equally cute Stephen (Steven?) in a different season.
Except that it wasn't Bradley; it was Steven Rosengard, the love child of Tom Smothers and French Stewart.
Gordana is very talented, she just needs to take more risks. Despite what Miss Lace thinks, Gordana has what it takes to go to Bryant Park.
I'm rooting for you, girl, you have talent and class.
Ever since Steven got cut for that wedding/french maid thing, I have imagined more than once what I would have done. You know these designers had to have done the same and should have knowen exactly what they were going to do. I'm a little surprized that no-one ever says, I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I'M GOING DO DO. Quess it's the pressure or something. Anyway, the win was much better that the imaginary one I've been carring around in my head.
I thought the same thing about Heidi's comments? WTF?? She seemed furious!
xoxoxoxo
FINALLY!!
Like many of you, when they showed Gordana crying on the phone, I said to dh "oh, oh....loser edit" which would be so unfair, given the dress that Gordana was creating. I especially liked the way she turned a wedding dress that was a very dated 70's style into an edgy contemporary look! WTG, Gordana - glad you were finally recognized for your design talent!
OTOH, austingirl you called it exactly right on Irina's "mother of the bride horror" - it wasn't that big a stretch from what the dress originally was to the new incarnation. Ugly attitudes, ugly dress, IMO!
Will keep my comments about Epperson's aufing for later. I know everyone's gonna have much to say on that one!
srq
As to your comment about liking hte neckline - I do have to point out that it you move the point on her neckline a couple of inches to the middle - you have Johnny's newspaper dress' neckline. :)
I liked some of the fabrics, tulle, lace that Gordana had been working with in the work room.
But while basic she did deserve the win.
So do you think the powers (whoever they were at the time) got together and said ." what was the one challange that really f'd up a good designer? Remember how bad Steven screwed up? Lets design a challange around that!"
Ok boys, be careful what you wish for. This wasn't "design something pretty", this was take someones shattered hopes and dreams and make something , well... better.
Thank you! I had the same thoughts when Heidi said, "this time". A begrudging compliment is *not* a compliment.
Heidi never gave Uli the credit she deserved. Must be some eastern europe thing.
Viva Gordana!
I'm glad she finallly won! Funny thing is this dress fits right in with the others that she has done and been either ignored or criticized for. Go figure.
I don't mind the boots. If they are picking from the paltry Macy's wall, they are pretty limited. The hair is not so good. I blame the L'Oreal guy, or is it TRESemme'?
I KNEW I had seen this challenge before! It was done on season 2 of Project Runway Canada.
I would have swapped out Irina for Carol Hannah in the top 3. I thought she did a great job of retaining some of the character of the original textile, while creating a completely different look. Irina's dress was b-o-r-i-n-g.
No you don't.
I loved Gordana's design the minute I saw it. I am so glad she finally won. It just must have torn Heidi up to proclaim (in a bitchy, bitchy way) Gordana last night's winner.
That all being said, can't wait for the comments on Epperson's non-deserved aufing. :(
I'm still SPITTING from Epperson's auf'g of Logan, Christopher or Nickaulas, to really enjoy Gordana's work.
And yes, you can design girl!
I just felt so bad for her afterward when Tara got auf'd.
Tlo said: "Good job. THIS TIME." What the fuck was THAT, Heidi
I couldn't believe how bitchy Heidi was Gordana. They need to stop pretending personality isn't a big part of judging. Heidi just doesn't like Gordana.
It still reminded me a little of Big Blondie's paper dress, but better. I didn't even catch that outside seam. Man that shit was da bomb!
When her model first came out, I said, "She better get some credit for this!"
And of course, when she was announced the winner, I screamed louder than a white lady in church!
What was most satisfying: seeing that pompous little smirk on Gorznirina's pretty little face disappear in pure shock and disgust.
Put that shit in Macy's and suck it!
And then...........................
(to be continued)
Say hello to yuh mutha fuh'me aight?
Congratulations, Gordan! My daughter and I love your dress!
Congratulations, Gordana, you brought your A game this time. By the way, your "children" are gorgeous.
YES!!!!! FINALLY!!!!
Did anyone notice that they played Chris March's runway music last night?
Congrats, Gordana, about time she got recogniton! Yeah, I know, we'll get to it, but I'm wiping away a tear from Epperson's aufing (TLo, PLEASE interview him), and as a woman probably older than Irinia's "divorcee," I was ticked about that ugliness being called great and age-appropriate. I'd never wear that, and I have hardly any taste at all!
Yes, yes Heidi's "THIS TIME" comment really stung my ears. I knew I wasn't the only one who thought that was annoying.
Hurray for Gordana! Thank God Michael was there to judge last night, because otherwise I am afraid Heidi would have overpowered the other judges once again and given the win to Irina.
I'm SO happy Gordana got the win! She seems to be such a genuinely nice and warm person - as well as a very talented designer.
I have to say, though - that Irina's made me think of Blanche Devereaux from The Golden Girls! She'd have rocked it, for sure...
So happy that Gordana won!
So sad that Epperson auf'd.
I too, thought that Dr. Whitfield's dress belonged in the top 3; hers and Gordana's were my favorites.
I have really started to doubt my fashion sense since watching PR this season! (Usually) everything they gush over escapes me, and the things I think are good are torn apart by the judges.
I don't think I'm hip enough for the rooom...
The other thing I'm very happy about with Gordana's win is that she has immunity next week, so that she can't be auf'd for at least one more show. Given the way she's been unfairly placed in the bottom over this season, that's good news for Team Gordana.
srq
I didn't see the episode yet, but am so glad Gordana won!! And I do respectfully disagree that the top two wins last night would have been middle of the pack in earlier seasons. Gordana's dress was elegant, edgy, incredibly well made, with that fringe as an interesting twist. She has great skills, but also a good eye, I think. I hope we see more good work from her.
And I am not getting the Shirin love. I have hated the last few things she has done - this, and that absurd can-can girl that she should have been on the bottom for!
bitchybitchybitchy
After seeing last night's episode and the TLo post about Gordana's spring collection, I feel as if I truly saw Gordana's vision/point of view in her design for the challenge-feminine, but with an edge, a twist.
You go, Gordana!
Great for Gordana! Loved the dress.
But Epperson is gone! The bottom three were all horrible, but at least his was sewn! 2 octberfest looks, and one that was falling apart.
Logan is "hot" but he adds nothing and it not even entertaining tv.
Alright, I'll stop. It's about Gordana, and kudos to her.
Loved it when the first woman introduces herself and says how long she's been divorced and Gordana (in her best Natasha voice) says, "Congratulations."
First: CONGRATS TO GORDANA!!!
Second: "Good job. THIS TIME." What the fuck was THAT, Heidi?"
Heidi von Bitch is on my nerves this season.
Third: WHY WERE THE JUDGES APPLAUDING "THE BRIDEMAID'S DRESS FROM 1977???" If they liked it so much, I have a purple one just like it (from a Rainbow Wedding no less) so they can completely orgasm.
I didn't hate Irina's, but I didn't think it was top 3. Actually it is very similar in silhouette to Epperson's, which they hated.
Daisy: As for Heidi bitchiness...I don't know, I think sometimes the fact that she is speaking English as a second language messes her up. (For instance she seems still to be using "also" slightly incorrectly--anyone else notice that?)So when she said, "this time" to Gordana, it didn't seem ultra bitchy, just sort of incorrect attempt at vernacular.
Sorry, I am fluent in German and while you're correct about "also" being misused by Heidi as there is also a German word "also" with a different meaning BUT there is no such reason or excuse with "this time" -- no German phrase that sounds similiar but means something different....in this case, Heidi is just being a bitch. I don't know why some are sugar-coating it because she was also a bitch about Epperson and really seems to have a thing for the pretty ones (Irina, Logan, and my gosh did you see her face when Althea's short shiny dress went down the runway?) with an animosity for the less pretty or older ones Epperson, Gordana, Nicolas.
Personally, I like Gordana but I don't think she has produced enough that's really good that she would deserve to win PR or even get to the finals, if I was a judge.
Frankly, I'd have put Althea's monstrosity in the bottom three over Epperson's and Carol Hannah's in the top three over Irina's.
The styling didn't bother me at all.
If there was ever a middle-finger to the ex that says, "Look, this is what you lost: now I'm staking out a boy half your age with twice your stamina!"
Cougars rule!
Am I the only one who noticed La Kraut's obsession with Octoberfest? If she spends so much time at these celebrations, perhaps she would do better judging a beer swilling contest!
I liked the boots for the simple reason that I think they catapulted the divorcee into a different realm than before.
I know Althea's model, Marilyn. I'm so surprised that she's divorced - LOLOLOL.
Sewing Siren said: I didn't hate Irina's, but I didn't think it was top 3. Actually it is very similar in silhouette to Epperson's, which they hated.
Yeah, I thought the same thing. My take on Irina's dress was that it was very MOB but fell in the middle of the pack, given the fubar efforts of Nicolas, Christopher and Logan. IMO the next best dress to Gordana's was Dr Whitfield's, and I was amazed they passed over it so quickly.
I'm no fashion maven, god knows, and every season of PR has me shaking my head at nonsensical-to-me judging at some point. This season I'm getting a head-shaking migraine. Epperson?!
Gordana! Yay!
Loved that she made the upcycled version look so much better than the original wedding dress. Plus this looks more like her own collection, so maybe Gordana's finding her feet.
Cannot wait to read your opinions of Logan's and Christopher's dresses, how they escaped the auf I do not know. Logan wasn't even wearing his lucky trousers.
Amanda in Austin,
I noticed the same thing regarding the order they announce the middle pack, winner and losers....I guess they mixed it a little bit more in previous seasons.
and Congrats again Gordana, I loved your dress and I didn't mind the boots that much, were they high heels? but I can see how the dress would look awesome with gorgeous shoes....
yaay for Gordana! Great look and great skills.
I was worried that Irina would win with that awful giant brown doily dress. I knew Logan wouldn't go home because of producer input...
loved gordana's dress, love her vibe. she's such a grown-up! (and unlike most of you, really liked the styling. smart to punk it up and let the judges congratulate themselves for having the VISION to see it ladied up.)
i think there's some serious ageism at play in the judging, particularly from heidi. (ulli was also no spring chicken.) i think in a world that salivates over the NEW NEW NEW, gordana (and to a lesser degree epperson -- because race and gender also come into play here) triggers the unconscious ICK, esp for the MODEL, for whom aging is particularly terrifying. if you're a female designer, you sure as heck better make it by 35, when you're still dewy and purty, and then, like DVF, you're allowed to age. (exception that proves the rule: miuccia prada. but there can only be one brainiac in the class.)
from the brief runway glimpse, my #2 would have been dr whitfield.
but more importantly: irina, what the HELL!? terrifying MOB dress. if the judges are gonna slam epperson for "too much fabric" (WTF?? i know we're gonna get to this but EPPERSON over LOGAN's frankenstinian monstrosity?) then why did irina get to put a giant lacy doily around her model's top half? this was a good challenge but this show is just ULTRA-ASS for me this season. thank heavens for Top Chef.
It is painfully obvious that Heidi's animosity towards Gordana stems from the fact that no amount of fancy clothes, hair or makeup will ever give her the grace, talent or style that Gordana so effortlessly wields.
So completely over the moon for Gordana. I loved this look, and I disagree, I actually liked the styling -- I get your point, but the client wanted punk sensibilities, and there they are. Maybe an updo would have been better, to be fair.
And frankly, this was the only decision of the night that made sense to me. Dr. Whitfield's dress was jaw-droppingly stunning to me, yet passed by in the middle, while my beloved Epperson was aufed for something that should have been in the middle itself. What?
And don't get me started on Althea's dress. It looked like she was wearing an ill fitting blue bikini top on the outside of an already ugly dress. In some ways it was worse than even Nicolas' and Logan's creations.
Why did all the designers clamor to get to get the wedding dresses with the most fabric? When they all ended up using about 2 yard tops? Most of them could have done what they did with Shirin's dress.
I am so glad she won. This episode had me feeling schizophrenic - elated for Gordana, totally pissed about Epperson.
I could not agree more. I'll wait for the Epperson post to go off though. lol
Congrats Gordana! We love you and are SO happy you won! I loved the way the frayed detail looked like beading. I hated the boots, but their growing on me a bit. Need more heel I think and I would have liked them more.
I'm wondering if Heidi's strong dislike for Gordana doesn't have something to do with where Gordana is from. Germans are notoriously condescending to Eastern Europeans and Russians. (You know--they try to take over their countries a couple times every other century--send their citizens to labor and concentration camps --wasn't just the Jews you know) We may be watching Heidi's ethnic prejudices at work.
Well, it could be that. Or it could be that Heidi is just many other vapid models with no taste.
I think regardless of how much of the fabric was actually used, the gowns with more fabric provided more opportunities to cull large, unshaped pieces from which to cut new pattern shapes—almost like getting fabric straight off the bolt.
What a traumatic episode! Why Tim felt the need to identify these women solely as "divorcees" (do their failed marriages totally define them, Tim?) is beyond me. The challenge produced the ugliest garments ever to come down the runway, and the worst runway walks I've ever seen on "PR." Who taught those broads how to walk? OUCH!
Irina's frock was disastrous. It is beyond comprehension that she was praised for it. Gordana did a nice job with the *lining only* of her dress (I love her, but I agree that the styling was B-A-D). Someone please explain why Epperson had to go when Logan's frumpy frilly vest and trousers disaster was so much worse?
The problem with the boots styling is the client's nobbly knees - this is one case where thigh high boots would have looked amazing.
I have a horrible feeling that Frau Seal is one of the main reasons Lifetime wanted to grab the franchise and is considered one the main assets by the show's new overlords (she's a beautiful mother and businesswoman - perfect for the Lifetime crowd).
That's why they were prepared to move the show to LA for her sake and to the show's detriment give her a new role in MOTR and it seems like they've told her to build up her judging role.
Unfortunately she really doesn't have the personality to carry it all, and it also seems to have gone completely to her head.
Last year I had the misfortune to be vacationing in a Mexican hotel when nearly the whole place was taken over by Heidi, Seal and their respective entourages for their annual 'renew our wedding vows' shindig. Observing Heidi in the wild over a period of 3-4 days is, shall we say, interesting...
Yay Gordana! I was so excited when she won last night!
[insert Gordana praise here]
I really like the styling for her model.
She looked like an aging punkster and there ain't nothing wrong with that.
Not all of us want to look like we're going to a corporate business meeting, a weekend getaway to the Hamptons or some trendy watering hole filled with anxious financial sector hangers-on... .
The boots pulled the dress out of 'cocktailland' and onto the downtown streets. Toss a short-waisted jean jacket on it and the look could easily go into any creative-y office.
Which is about as far from a traditional religious ceremony as you can get in daily life, I figure.
The hair is what she had and I'm glad it wasn't turned into an updo. Mostly 'cause I can't figure out how they'd do it. But I do think they could have gone another way with the make-up. Her eyes seemed to really get lost.
But, overall, I thought the styling was very appropriate for what she wanted and low-key for her daily life.
And the dress - great look and great transformation!
Peacebang said Why Tim felt the need to identify these women solely as "divorcees" (do their failed marriages totally define them, Tim?) is beyond me.
Because that was the entire point - that they are divorcées starting their lives afresh.
I missed Ginger & Fred, though.
I think that Gordana's people over-ran Heidi's village back in the middle ages and the pain still lingers.
Yeah, but I don't recall Tim using anything like the term "former fatties" in the weight loss challenge in S4 or "wrestler" in S5. He didn't use the words "clients" or "models" in last night's episode at all. Very strange. And very noticeable.
I threw my remote at the TV when Heidi said 'this time'. Luckily, I have awful aim and I was tipsy, so it's all ok. Watching Gordana sob uncontrollably because Tara got sent home, however, officially put me over the edge.
Marry me, Gordana. Imagine what you could do with the wedding dresses.
HuuUUza to Gordana! =D You rocked it out girl! Im so happy for you! The color, design, everything was PERFECT!
Yea the model's hair was FUG and the boots were whack but the dress was stunning!
"Watching Gordana sob uncontrollably because Tara got sent home, however, officially put me over the edge"
Stacy OMG i was crying too! That was soooo sad =( Totally unfair to pretty Tara
About the styling: I'm not sure this look would have won WITHOUT this styling. If she'd been wearing pumps and a clutch, it would have seemed ordinary, and maybe not so far from the original wedding dress. With the boots - and I have to say the attitude of the model - it was truly a transformation.
I really liked the phoenix rising from the ashes aspect of this challenge. And even though the ladies walks were eccentric, I liked seeing their personalities. I know the model is the "hanger" and the whole idea is for the model to fade so the clothes shine, but in real life isn't it the opposite? Don't we want our personality to be up front and our clothes to take a back seat ?
Call me a cougar, but I liked the styling. I loved that the "divorcee" was willing to chop her hair for the show and strut with some boots. I would have liked to have seen some jewelry or something else to the look. Very happy for Gordana and thanks for bringing up the snarky Heidi comment.
By showing the picture of the very similar neckline you think you were disagreeing?
Arguing for the sake of arguing?
Well deserved. Yay, Gordana!
What a transformation. Thanks for doin' the side-by-side pix because I couldn't figure out which gal & original dress it was. (haven't viewed show yet)
I love Gordana's technique, but more than that, I love her thought process here: What can we do that says: "I've moved on."
I was sooo happy for Gordana! So well-deserved. I caught that slight snipe from Heidi too and it baffled me. Why all the hate, Heidi, why?!
I wasn't aware we were arguing, but how about you assume good faith and go with the explanation that I simply disagree with you that this neckline looks "very similar" to this one?
Are you somehow above simple disagreement?
To use a much over-used word, that dress was fierce.
that I simply disagree with you that this neckline looks "very similar" to this one?
Are you somehow above simple disagreement?
Opinions are fine - the first one read as a proclamation. Fine you disagree.
I see two relatively straight across necklines - both looking like the have a triangular addition with a point at the top - one in the center, the other more integrated and off center. The judge had him (johnny?) fold it down for a straight across strapless top. If Gordana had been told to fold it down....
Yeah, why the attitude from the judges toward Gordana? She's produced consistently solid work for weeks now. Glad to see her get her due. Hooray!
Chenelle anyone?
Heidi has been taking her bitch pills lately. She's been making a lot of snide comments lately like the ominous "you're very lucky to have immunity" and "THIS time"
I completely agree with this win, congrats Gordana!
"I think that Gordana's people over-ran Heidi's village back in the middle ages and the pain still lingers."
Good one!
Sister Mary Martha said "I think that Gordana's people over-ran Heidi's village back in the middle ages and the pain still lingers."
I cackled right out loud, Sister. You are right: the barely veiled animosity seems positively feudal in origin.
We may be watching Heidi's ethnic prejudices at work.
Yeah cause we all know that Heidi is front and center in promoting Aryan purity.
Sister Mary Martha - ROTFLMAO!!
I haven't seen the ep because fraggin Lifetime put on "Sherri" and "Rita" at 1 am instead of PR as it has been since the beginning of the season, so I have to record it today. Scum.
But GORDANA!!!! Sweetheart, you ROCK! I want that dress!! It's so fierce. And the boots are a great thing to wear with it but I would go with even harder edged boots. I have some BCBG pointed toe boots with a big ass toe buckle I'd wear with that dress. Or go with tights and some big platform romanesque sandals to rock it out. But the idea of giving it an edge was perfect. The hair, however, sucked and that's Garnier's issue. I think Treseme did a much better job with the hair styles in general. I'm not thrilled with the hair styling this season.
TEAM GORDANA!
As far as Heidi's bitchiness, she had it in for Gordana all season. She's threatened by her, as she was Uli. And we have the producers of young adult angst overseeing the show, so I'm not surprised that Gordana is the last mature designer standing. That pisses me off. MK, Nina and even Heidi are no spring chickens, though Heidi likes to dress like a teenaged hooker.
I'm getting really sick of Heidi.
WOOO! Finally! Gordana deserved to be recognized for a while now, and this dress was one of her best creations so far as well as being the best one in this episode. Yay Gordana!
hurray for Gordana, i think they've been way to hard on her all season, we were so HAPPY so won!
I'm happy for Gordana. I'm not sure she'd have been my pick for the win (I'd like to have had a closer look at Carol Hannah's) but she's certainly been overlooked in the past when she should have been at least top 3 so good for her. And Heidi's "this time" remark surprised me. It seemed so gratuitous and mean-spirited.
Gordana's "divorcee" had a kind of a Rosanna Arquette vibe. so I totally got the boots w/the dress.
Heels would've been a bore.
WHY IS HEIDI SUCH A BITCH?! Was she preggers at this point and a victim of hormones? What is her deal?
Wait. Forgot to add that I got the hair look w/the boots for the Rosanna Arquette vibe-older, hip blonde.
And correct the punctuation where necessary.
Moving on...
YES! We were whooping with joy over here, too, that Gordana finally got recognized. And it was a gorgeous design with which to win, too. Way to go, Gordana!
I think Heidi'd being a hag because she is forced to wear frumpy-looking clothes for Lifetime. That's my theory....have you noticed that she's been covered up lately? She's having hoochie remorse.
Does Heidi need to brush up on her English skills--she said the models were recently divorced but she said one had been divorced 14 years and another 16 years. How is that recent?
Did anyone notice that Uli's runway music was used in last night's episode? They either had to recycle, or it was an editing clue.
Yeah, I noticed that and, I gotta say, the music was the only flaw in Uli's jaw-dropping finale runway show. I don't know why they would want to use it again.
fashionablylate
Yay for Gordana and boo for Heidi - I've always been a big supporter of Frau Seal but she's got a nasty edge this season that I am not loving. Maybe she's a bit frazzled over losing Nina and Michael for most episodes?
Much love to Gordana - you SO deserved to win! Beautiful, sexy dress!! The only thing that took away from my joy is the auf-ing of my other fave, Epperson :(
And, I'm in total agreement with the ill feelings for Heidi this season and am very glad that TLo called her out. Ms. Seal, please learn a lesson from this and improve for the next season - thanks, babe!
5&10
I'm so pleased for Gordana.
One question: What color is that dress? Even single dyed garment on the runway looked gray to me. Am I going colorblind?
Yesterday's show was absolutely riveting and fantastic! finally.
Not quite getting all the Shirin love. I found her whining on last night's episode incredibly annoying.
Congratulations, Gordana! A terrific design and a very deserved win.
I have not been of the opinion that Gordana has been getting ripped off up till now. After the pregnancy challenge, I have found her work to be well-constructed but uninspired. Looking at her Spring 2010 collection, I realized that she is much more talented than she has shown on the show.
I hope she has stepped it up and will continue to wow them, Heidi be damned. I also liked Shirin's design, but Irina's was the fugliest mother-of-the-bride crapola I have ever seen! Well-executed, but it should have been in the middle and Carol Hannah's in the top three. Little CH has not be getting any love from the judges either.
Since I rarely get to see the show, the personalities don't influence my opinions of the clothes. I don't care if Shirin whined, she sucked it up and asserted herself and the end result was good. And I don't care how obnoxious Irina is, her design just sucked.
I loved the way Tim talked to Shirin when she broke down. Made me love him all over again.
Shirin wasn't whiny. She was over-tired, worried, and faced with an impossible task - making a Cher impersonator happy with the plain white dress she was making out of the meager scraps of the worst wedding dress on the runway - while not getting aufed. Tough juggling.
Give her a break.
Thank the Gods! Gordana won!
This makes me happy for two reasons:
1) The dress was awesome. And I totally agree with whoever said a higher boot would work because the client's knees were knobby.
2) It's a loud FU to Frau Seal and Irina. The later's dress was a mess and she deserved to be taken down a peg (especially after last week's treatment of La Gordana). As for Frau Seal, I get she's trying to be bitchy and witty, but unlike another bitchy host on a foreign PR, she just doesn't have the taste, intelligence, or experience of Iman to say why something is bad.
Plus, La Nina would have been all for that dress in a heartbeat.
Yep, this challenge was on PR Canada Season 2. I can't remember if PR US has ever done a challenge like this.
Even though it wasn't anything new, the challenge worked out well and this episode was quite interesting.
I'm thrilled that Gordana finally won!
I think Gordana has made some really lovely things, and I suspect Heidi of being tougher on her because she's European.
It was about time!!!!
I was honestly terrified when Heidi started to lust over Irina's dress because Gordana deserved to win like 10times more than her and also cuz with a 3rd winning under her belt (and the second in a row) there would be new levels of bitchiness that I would not be able to stand... hate that "full-of-herself" atitude that Irina has.
But Gordana won! I actually scream when that happen :D
And next episode La Nina is back (yeeeeeeeiiiii) so please don't restrain yourselves on the NinaCaps, you guys!
I was really concerned that they were going to auf her because she was getting so much screen time. And then I saw that her dress was well made so I thought, oh they are going to hit her with the nice safe dress comment.
Thank god Im wrong. And wasn't it great that she just didn't finally win but won at the right time? Getting the last immunity reward is pretty special.
- I was thrilled when Gordana won. Her dress totally deserved it. And I loved the boots. I am so proud of her.
- I was afraid that Shirin would be auf'd unfairly, since she got the smallest dress. I was praying for a safeout. Needless to say, I was ecstatic when she got a high score- though I do agree that Gordana's deserved the win.
- Irina's dress was fine. It did deserve the high score. She is talented.
- I thought Carol Hannah's would score higher, but after seeing the 3 high scores up close, I agree with the safeout.
So proud for Gordana, but why does Heidi hate her so much. Heidi has had it in for Gordana from the beginning. You could see Heidi gritting her teeth to give her the win.
It was great to see how genuinely happy the other designers (Shirin, Althea, Carol Hannah) were at Gordana's win. I think Shirin squealed, "you totally deserve it!"
Hooray for Gordana! She did a really great job.
I suppose next week we'll have to listen Irina's endless whining about how SHE should have won and HER look was so much better than this one, but the judges didn't want to give it to her twice in a row. Gee, that'll be fun.
so so so so so so SO happy about this win! LOVE the dress! So glad ole girl won. And Heidi's comment - very not cool.
I, too, was thrilled that she won, but it irked me that even when naming her the winner, Heidi had to get a few barbs in by saying, "You did a great job THIS time."
I agree 100%. Love the dress, hate the styling. The hair and makeup actually kid of reminded me of a halloween costume box. Maybe it was the pose too...
Anyway, congrats!
!!!!!!YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY!!!!!!!!
Late comment (out of town, no LIFETIME on the hotel cable), but I'm posting this just to add my voice to the record.
I was sure the win was going to go to Irina for her Mother of the Bride dress that, inexplicably, even Michael Kors loved.
When Gordana's name was announced, I choked up a bit. I admit it freely!
Gordana, this was so long overdue and so deserved! Now, keep it up all the way to Bryant Park!
Note to Heidi: Forget about Oktoberfest; you need to can the Bitchfest on the Gordana front. It's not making you any friends because she's a lot more likable than you!
Finally watched the show on my dvr...
My family loudly cheered for Gordana. We thought it was sweet that the designers were so happy for her. I agree that Irina's was very mother of the bride. Regarding Heidi's bitchiness, this season was being filmed in the middle of that legal dispute. I'm sure she was on edge. Not really excusing it, just wondering aloud.
A well-deserved win. Way to go Gordana!
YAY! Congrats, Gordana!
She really managed to pull out a really cool dress from that white nightmare she had to work with.
This is my favorite type of challenge! And I actually liked several of the runway looks, for a change. Gordana totally deserved this win. In fact, it might be the best garment this season.
Irina's dress = 1976 "Gunne Sax." I wore the long version for my Band Queen Coronation in Oklahoma (which of course evokes taste and sophistication a plenty).
Please God let them move this back to New York. Please put Michael and Nina back in place.
Someone give Heidi a valium.
Yay for Gordana! What was up with Peppermint getting to stay without so much as a mildly bitchy comment from Heidi?
