Strong Showings

These three ladies surprised us.

Gordana:
"If you give me a sheep, I can make you a sweater."

Okay, show of hands. Who else suddenly became huge fans of hers with that sound bite?

Model: Tara Egan

We really, really like this dress. It's highly unusual but still pretty and wearable.

Okay, maybe you'd have to keep your arms out at all times to make it work, but it's still really eye-catching and different. We'll take this kind of "different" over Ari's brand any day of the week.

We're really curious how she managed that effect around the top and we're wondering what other tricks she has up her sleeve. Also, we love the fabric. It could have been a contender for the judges' attention if she'd gone with a gown length on this. Something to balance out that treatment at the top would have improved it greatly.

Irina:

Poor Irina. Such a great rack wasted on a viewership composed almost solely of straight women and gay men.

Model: Celine Chua

The bottom of this dress moved incredibly. She did a fantastic job on the skirt, which appears to have some interesting construction to it designed to make it move like that.

And the view from the back is gorgeous.

Despite our stated love of Laura Bennett's designs, we're not normally a fan of lace and we have to say, we're not a fan of the lace she used here. It was very doily-esque. We're also not fans of that sash, which comes off a little twee. And we think that some color would have really helped this look.

Shirin:

"My name is Shirin Askari. It means sweet in Farsi."

Oh, honey. Our names are Tom and Lorenzo and that means "bitches" in Gay.

We'll be honest. We assumed she was going to be a lightweight. Who knows? Maybe that'll yet turn out to be true.

Model: Ebony Jointer

But this wasn't the dress of a lightweight. In fact, this dress was adorable. We hated the capelet, though.

Especially since it covers up that really cute detail at the top.

There was also some puckering throughout the garment and it's another one that could have benefited from a color infusion.

But the back of it is really sassy and sexy. What's up with everyone making "walking away" dresses for this challenge? Sure, you see a lot of that on the red carpet, but we're a little surprised that the sexy back was so prominent this week.

I absolutely loved Gordana's dress and her model is absolutely the beest! I also really liked Shirin's dress. Not so impressed by irina

The great rack wasn't lost on this straight male viewer.

I really liked Irina's dress, but then again, I also want to get married in this:

http://www.brides.com/fashion/dresses/gallery/wedding_dresses/vendor/detail/119742

Ugh - I cannot handle links properly. If anyone is curious, the link goes to Monique Lhuillier's Valentine style gown from the Spring 2004 collection.

I completely forgot about Shirin's dress, possibly because of the length or color, or maybe because there are a million contestants.

Loved Gordana's dress and do agree that it would have benefited from a longer skirt.

Irina's was lovely, but I've seen that in my better department stores and bridal boutiques. It did look totally bitchin' on the model.

I would wear both Irina's and Shirin's dresses. Gorgeous. Also liked Gordana's. So far she's repping well for us down here in Charleston :)

Yes these ladies have real potential. The dresses were imperfect but definitely on the right track

My roomie and I especially agree about that capelet. We thoguht first meh. Then when she took it off we went ooooh

"Oh, honey. Our names are Tom and Lorenzo and that means "bitches" in Gay." ROFL! Too funny.

Gordana's dress was my favorite of the night. I liked Christophers, but I would WEAR Gordana's. Love the color and the interest at the bustline. Just a truly unique look. Done gushing now :).

With so many designer's starting out, it is hard to keep track of all the designs. Thanks for the update, since I kind of forgot about some of these. Like the first and third, the second was a Laura rip-off.

excuse me, excuse me, gay men, straight and bisexual women. *pouty*

I like her dress too. (But then, shear me a sheep, wash and card the fleece, give it to my mother to spin and I'll, um, knit you some lace, so I guess that's destiny.)

"Tlo said: We'll take this kind of "different" over Ari's brand any day of the week."

Yep. Instead of practically jumping up & down waving, and yelling, 'I'm different, I'm different', Gordana's more talented approach of just getting down to work and producing the goods is the way to get yourself noticed in the right way.

I also had some issue with Irina's lace and color choice, but I loved the silhouette & movement in that dress.

Shirin's, with the cape on, looked a bit too Clara Barton for me.

--GothamTomato

I was sorry that Gordana's dress didn't get more attention as it was an interesting look that was a bit more innovative in a different way. Loved the color too! Would have been interesting to see it in a longer gown, maybe with a bit of the architectural detailing at the bottom.

and yes, Irina's dress would have been lovely with a bit more color.

srq

One of the interesting things that came out of the bonus footage of Tim consulting with each designer (a great idea by the way - don't know why Bravo never thought to do this) is that Gordana apparently started with a completely different design/dress, and decided to change it on the second day to do something more risky/daring. Apparently, it was lack of fabric (and a change in the concept) that compelled her to make the dress at that length. More fabric, and more time to execute the design would have probably propelled this dress into the top three.

BTW, the top of Gordana's dress reminded me of that childrens game kids used to play with the folded paper that opens and closes.

It was simply gorgeous though.

--GothamTomato

Am I right in thinking Gordana has been seen in a past season try-out? I seem to remember someone saying they could make a sweater out of a sheep in one of those montages of unchosen designers.

Lovely showing by these ladies - these point out how ridiculous the judging was the Jonny was in the top 3.

The fact that Shirin's capelet was the bow from the back - and it laid quite nicely was a great plus.

Irina's top was totally Laura, but the minor criticism I'd have it the way the skirt grabbed at the crotch - in some front pics I thought it was a jumpsuit.

On what planet is a black sash on a champagne-colored lace grandma's nightgown dress "twee"? Sickeningly sweet...or just dowdy and funereal? I'm going with the latter.

Shrin's dress was one of my faves. If it had been longer and if it had been better constructed I could have seen it winning or at least being in the top. I also LOVED Irinas. I thought Gordana's was interesting but a bit unwearable with the top being so pointy and all.

Oh, what I wouldn't give to see a team sheep-to-shawl challenge. Yes, it would be stupid. Yes, it would probably be cruel to the sheep, and yes, it makes very little sense in the context of the show. But still. Tim Gunn playing with lambs.

Irina's dress looked like a nightgown to me. Yes, it was beautiful, but put it on Katharine Hepburn in a 40s flick when someone comes into her room to "talk" to her before she goes to bed, there you go...

I liked Gordana's dress but it kind of reminded me of what Lee Anne did, so I don't see it as unique as everyone else is, I don't know.

Shirin's was good and I loved the detail at the top. Agree with you that the capelet was overkill.

I am surprised at the other dresses that haven't gotten any love--I especially loved Nicolas's little black dress with the silver woven strips in front and Carol Hanna's gold gown with the corded detail...

I liked all of these dresses! And I agree that the second two could have used more color.

Very strong showings, indeed. Can't wait to see more.

Did the designers get descriptions of their models before starting on the looks, or just measurements? If it was just measurements, Irina really lucked out. That color would have looked awful on anyone with either a lighter or darker complexion, but it was very lovely on Celine.

"With so many designer's starting out, it is hard to keep track of all the designs. Thanks for the update, since I kind of forgot about some of these. Like the first and third, the second was a Laura rip-off."

Uh, I have a feeling that Laura is not the first one to work with those fabrics or cut. Irina could have a thousand reference points for that design w/o a single one being Laura.

gotham tomato, we used to call the folded paper "cootie catchers" go figure.

post btw...LMFAO!

There are some straight men watching! I'm sure I'm not the only straight-woman-viewer whose husband does not run screaming from the room when PR is on. He actually gives some good commentary on the fashion, too!

Irina's dress was my favorite, no question. The top was elegant and the dress moved so beautifully.

Gordana's dress... I'm just so distracted by the fact that I couldn't wear it that I can't appreciate the innovation. A woman would have to be completely flat-chested to wear that style!

Love Gordana, and like Shirin's and Irina's. I didn't love the cape, and also felt that the lace top part of Irina's ended at an awkward part of the body. Anyone else feel that way?

Thanks TLO for all the great posts! Hope you two have half as much fun posting as we do reading and commenting!

Shirin's dress minus the cape was lovely. Very soft and flowy and she did a pretty good sewing job despite the shiny.

Gordana's dress had some architectural interest, but it was a little too geometric and foldy to my eye. Then again, that's all that saved it from being totally bridesmaid.

And speaking of weddings, Irina's dress has definitely been done by Monique L'Huillier as Mary showed. I'd have expected Irina to get called out for copying but maybe the judges don't follow bridal fashion.

Thank you TLO for the "rack" comment! You made my day. I used to work in an office that was which the population about 75% gay men or straight women, and I had a friend that would say the same thing to me, " such a waste of a rack in an office full of gay men and straight women" ;)

"mjude said: gotham tomato, we used to call the folded paper "cootie catchers" go figure."

That's it!

--GothamTomato

Shirin's was kind of ugly, and, quite frankly, it was very similar to every other convertible "Ooh, look! "Multifunctional!" dress made on PR, International PR, and TFS. Great, we can either wrap the hem around our necks like an idiot or wear it normally - great, what options! Her fabrics weren't my fave and I thought the detailing at the top was ugly. That, coupled with the way she annoys me SOOOO much as a person, means I hope she gets kicked off next week. And I hope she cries, 'cause I'm a bitch,

I really liked all three of these dresses, especially Shirin's minus the capelet. The neckline was beautiful!! I'm impressed!!!

Capelet over dress = Wendy Pepper S1 Banana Republic challenge. Done that. It's over.

Gordana's dress was gorgeous. I thought it should have won.

The lace bodice had some weirdness going on right over the nipples. Not a good look, but the rest of the dress was great.

Give me a sheep, and I'll make you mutton stew.

Yes, all lovely dresses. I have to admit that whenever someone decides to use satin for their dress, I cringe. There is no way to avoid puckering with that fabric, I'm certain, except if you were to use black satin. But Shirin's dress was quite nice. Gordana's was gorge.

Who am I kidding... Give me a sheep, and I'd have a new housepet.

-averill and 2 adopted kids, 3 dogs, 1 cat, 2 birds.

While I can understand some of the critiques that Shirin's was a fairy simple style (from the bust down), I hope that she would get credit for how weel she worked with that fabric.

How many times have we seen that fabric puckered, wrinkled like crazy, hemmed badly, etc. I think it looked lovely and - uh oh - many women would like to wear it.

Gordana reminds me of a a friend of mine. All three seemed very respectful of Tim - unlike a other contestants

Sure, Irina's dress moved really well. Unfortunately it moved into a camel toe position on the model's crotch and stayed there. Not very attractive.

I adored that sheep to sweater line. My hand is up, up, up! She's going to be fun to watch.

All three of these ladies did good work this week but Irina's had no wow or oooooh factor for me.

Gordana, I liked the she at least used a freaking color! And the treatment on top was very interesting and pretty.

Irina's I would have enjoyed more if there had been a color other than whatever the hell shade of taupe this is. yuck. But pretty? yes.

I really liked the oooh factor of the convertible cape on Shirin's. But like others, with the cape up, I was disappointed.

I think this could be a really fun season, TLo minions!

Once again you boys amaze me with your stamina! Thanks for this AND the Mad Men recap. Now hopefully you can catch up on some sleep!

You've got 3 days until the next PR. Hope you get out of the house a bit between now and then.

Thanks again boys!

Meadow

This flat-chested, pear-shaped gal would LOVE to wear Gordana's dress - a lovely way to balance out my figure. It's a great color for me too:) The other two were nice as well. These would have been my top 3 with Christopher's coming in fourth.

Oh, and thank GAWD I had cable on vacation in West Virginia.

I love the "cootie catcher" dress. (thanks for supplying that phrase by the way)The color was gorgeous. Although pointy, i think it would really make a statement on the red carpet.
Both of the other dresses were pretty and interesting. I want to see more of what these designers have to offer.

Thank you. These 3 looks were all more intersting to me than the winner and runner-up. Loved Shirin at first sight. And I didn't mind Irina's lace. I thought it was really originally rendered and flowed beautifully. I'm on the wrong foot with the judge's this week it seems.

"We're really curious how she managed that effect around the top"

Well, I believe that they are a series of "cootie catchers" all sewn together.

And if you don't know what a cootie catcher is, well then you didn't go to grade school in the midwest.

Gordana's and Shirin's dresses were my favorites. They were the two that made me sit up and pay attention. I want Shirin's in a different color, and I don't mind the capelet because it added the drama of the reveal...and the model took it off quickly.

As others haev said, Irina's was a total wedding dress rip-off. Maybe another color would have helped distract from that fact.

Are the three of us telepathically connected or WHAT? LOVED Gordana's and Irina's creations and was perplexed at their exclusion from the Top 4; tho after the Results Debacle that was the All-Star challenge I don't know why I should be the least surprised...

winninghamster

Maybe it's just that the model looks like her, but I can totally see Gordana's dress as part of Diane Kruger's slightly edgy Inglorious Basterds press tour she's been working lately.

"Oh, honey. Our names are Tom and Lorenzo and that means "bitches" in Gay."

I giggled (as usual).

Seriously, when she said
"my name means sweet in Farsi," I groaned out loud. Yes, you're a sweet, delicate, unique little flower. Now shut the f--- up and make a nice dress for the red carpet.

I thought Gordana's dress was a standout, not only because of the top, but because of the absolutely flawless finishing. The sheer overlay of the bottom allows every seam and dart to show, and you can see that it would be as perfect turned inside-out. Her construction is absolutely amazing. And, she chose a beautiful color. I loved her dress and thought it should have been top three at the least, and could have been the winner.

And on the topic of color, what is with all the black and flesh-colored fabric? Flesh tones are boring and black obliterates the details. Even though there were design and construction issues with Qristyl's (spelling?) dress, at LEAST she chose interesting colors.

Oh - and where I grew up in Maine we called those cootie catchers "fortune tellers" because you would write things inside the folds like what jobs you could have when you grew up. I forget exactly how they worked - involved numbers and colors and opening and closing them until you got to a fold to open to see what job you got. Could also do boys' names for predicting your future husband - maybe that's where the "cootie catcher" comes from:)

I am straight, enjoyed that girls rack when Tim went to visit her, and also enjoy your blog (and eschewing stereotypes everywhere).

Those were some very nice dresses, indeed. All types, all shapes, all interesting.

And I likes the capelet - if the red carpet moment was anywhere cool, that would have been a great addition.

I'm happy to say that this episode was all about the great women designers. I prefered these (and Louise's) dresses over the top two, frankly.

And it made me feel like this season is going to be better than last season's, instead of hoping it would be.

I actually thought the capelet was a great addition to make Shirin's dress look different. If it had been done in a different color, maybe purple, I think it would have really stood out and made the dress a contender.

All three of these women really impressed me and, in my opinion, did much better work than the judges' top three.

Wow, the extra footage with Tim really added to our understanding of these dresses and the way the designers were thinking. That is a huge plus with the large number of designers and not much time on anyone. Gordana's dress definitely should have been ahead of Johnny's, and Shirin's was pretty also. Irina's skirt was lovely but that top looked like something I made for my Barbie when I was 10. I really liked the way they interacted with Tim, too. Smart ladies.

Yes, capelets are cool: if you're going to the Shady Pines Rest Home's annual Fall Ball. For anyone else...not so much.

Wow. Talk about not boring Nina! All three womens' efforts were impressive.

Gordana's dress was a real standout, particularly that origami bodice.

Irina's dress showed great skill but required a slip.

Shirin's dress was flouncy and fun.

This is already shaping up to be a GREAT season.

Here's something wierd. This blog is linked to projectrunway.com but not to mylifetime.com as well. Lifetime should fix that!

LOVED Gordana's dress. LOVED. IT.

Boys, you are rolling, thank you for all the posts.

I gasped at Irina's dress!

But I like Shirin a lot. She's adorable :)

Gordana's dress was lovely!

All of the gals did a great job!!

I really loved Gordana's dress, too. Beautiful and unusual, and I loved the material.

I wasn't in love with Irina and Shirin's - in fact I nearly forgot them - but they're both very pretty and well-made. They probably didn't register much because of the lack of color. Why so drab, ladies?

Shirin still gets on my nerves, but not as much as I feared she would. Gordana is a badass and Irina really does have a great rack. Kudos, girl.

OMG Gotham Tomato I thought that looked like an old nurse cape too, although I couldn't remember Clara Barton's name. Good call.

TLo said: "If you give me a sheep, I can make you a sweater."

That was just such a great line spoken with her accent.

I loved Gordana's dress.

Irina's dress would have looked better on someone with dark skin. I can't remember when they get their models - do they know who their model is when they buy fabric?

Can't say I am a fan of Gordana's dress because it's not wearable unless you keep your arms out like a body builder. Guess I'm just not that conceptual. But it was well made. I loved Irina's dress because of the movement and the Laura-like style. Would've been awesome in black. Shirin? Capelet has got to go. Plus, she kind of irritates me and I don't know why.

honesty.not.pc

Irina'a gown just screams Monique Lhuillier! I love it and I would love to wear it but it doesn't feel very original or innovative.

I thought she said "Give me a sheet, and I can make you a sweater." I spent a few moments pondering how that could work. Take the sheet apart, thread by thread, weave the threads into yarn and then begin knitting?

Starting with a sheep doesn't sound much easier, but it clearly the more logical start point.

Liked all of these, didn't love-love any of them, especially not Irina's top - not because of the lace per se, but it did not feel as sleek as the skirt seemed to demand.

I like Gordina's very much she should have been in the top 3 if not the win. Yes, I think it's better than the Lucky Star dress.

The other two are leaving me cold.

"Our names are Tom and Lorenzo and that means "bitches" in Gay."

I fully intend to work a modified version of that into my everyday lexicon.

I loved the polygonal-origami effect of Gordana's dress. Thank heavens for your screencaps, because I really like Irina's dress much more having taken a closer look at it. Hated the capelet - the fabric seemed a little too heavy with the dress, and I just don't tie "capelet" in with "red carpet" anyway. Does not compute.

I loved Gordana's dress, but it did give me a strong desire to fold a piece of paper up and make and Origami fortune teller. (so I did... turns out I still remember how!!!)

As for Irina's... the flowing movement of the skirt was to die for. I loved it. To be totally honest, took my breath away a little. (But I'm a sucker for flow-ey skirts)

I think you have a point about the color. Each of these looks were better than that red dress in the top 3, but maybe the red dress stood out more because of the bold color.

I like all these dresses, but Gordana's is fabulous, and I think she the one to watch. I love her already.

Shirin bugged the hell out of me in her audition and home visit videos, but she was likable here. Her dress is very pretty, but I also think it needs some color. And although I like the idea of the capelet, I agree with Joe J. that it's too heavy for the dress. By the way, Joe J., she did say the capelet was to be worn before walking the red carpet, so I can give her a pass on that.

You boys must be running on coffee and energy bars. Yikes. Get some rest.

Oh, honey. Our names are Tom and Lorenzo and that means "bitches" in Gay.

LMFAO. For realsies.

I thought Gordana's dress was beautiful and interesting, but I completely disagree about the wearability. Unless, of course, the woman has zero boobs, like the model there.

Not impressed at all with Irina's dress. Yes, the bottom moved beautifully, but that top...no. Just no.

Shirin's dress was adorable, but I agree...lose the granny capelet. Also, I think I would prefer to see it in a not-so-shiny fabric.

Hey now, there ARE lesbians watching this show too. That rack was DEFINITELY not lost on us.

Gordana's? Gorge!! By the way, had never heard of "cootie catchers" before, hilarious!

I really liked Irina's dress- I'm a sucker for lace and I love dresses that have great movement. Gordana's dress, to me, was really interesting to look at. It's not something that I'd want to wear, but it's nice to look at.

As for Shirin, I loved her dress, through at first I wasn't crazy about the capelet. After watching the Tim Gunn workroom video, however, I really like it now. She probably should have given more thought to how it looked from the front, but the capelet is actually attached to the dress and is beautiful when seen from the back, though this isn't something that you see in the actual episode, When the capelet drops down, it helps to form that lovely walking away back (but keep in mind when you watch the vid, that she hadn't finished that lovely back yet).

Agree 100%. I think they're hideous no matter what.

I do too, but judging by the portfolio she tends to overuse it and I have a feeling that we'll get tired of it real soon.

GO GORDANA!!!! WE LOVE YOU!!!!!

Hahahahaha. And that's the way we like it :)

The great rack wasn't lost on this straight male viewer.

Straight man on rungay, how fabulous!

Gordana's dress was gorgeous, not crazy about the color though, but so simple and elegant at the same time.

"And if you don't know what a cootie catcher is, well then you didn't go to grade school in the midwest."

I went to grade school in the midwest and I've never heard those things called "cootie catchers". They were for telling fortunes.

Back on-topic . . .

I loved all three of these dresses. Granted that Irina's was a tad nightgown-ish, but I have a similar nightgown that my mom had in her trousseau, and I often wish that I had the nerve to wear it in public.

I loved Gordana. Her dress was a beautiful color and the detail was interesting, it just seems like it's covering a part of a lady that she probably wouldn't want covered. I love her model though! (Speaking of, is there going to be any "Models of the Runway" talk on here? I don't know what there is to talk about but I kinda like it, actually.)

Shirin's was my faaaavorite. The capelet thing was kind of stupid but otherwise it was gorgeous. Everytime I hear or read her name though I get Jens Lekman's song "Shirin" stuck in my head.

"....Such a great rack wasted on a viewership composed almost solely of straight women and gay men."

Don't you fret Irina - the Hubs was appreciative of your assets. =D

Loved all these dresses but especially Gordana's! I was surprised it didnt get much attention....

"....Our names are Tom and Lorenzo and that means "bitches" in Gay."

I LOVE you guys!

I am way too busy today to be reading these comments, because at first read I thought you had written "Tim Gunn workout video" and I swear, I nearly choked...

Although, to be fair, I would so pre-order that puppy from amazon.com. If the producers of the show are watching, you are losing revenue every minute you delay on this one.

The great rack wasn't lost on this straight male viewer.

Nor on this one! Yowsah.

Irina's was my favorite of the night, but I also immediately thought of Monique Lhuillier. Not original, but still, the fluidity in that skirt was amazing. Gordana's was just "meh" for me, and I H-A-T-E-D Shirin's dress.

I am hoping ALL of the designers add some color next week!!!

I liked Gordana's dress and wish we could have seen it in gown length, though it looks kinda wrinkly in the first pic.

Let me say that as a lesbian, I appreciated Irina's rack. I may not be the target audience of the show, but I out there appreciated good PR racks so that they don't go to waste entirely. You nailed it about her dress, though; I really liked it and probably would have loved it if she had chosen a different type of lace for the top.

Miss My-Name-Means-Sweet-in-Farsi made an alright dress. Nothing that really wowed me, and I barely registered it because that little capey-cardigan thing was ugly and covered up the only point of interest. It seemed like a very middle-of-the-pack sort of entry; nothing too offensive to be called out, nothing of any interest to be praised.

I agree, I wish Gordana had done her dress in gown length, the top is fabulous.

LOLOLOL

Love it.

Gordana is my early fave. I loved that dress. Great color, great detailing at the bust.

Shirin's capelet didn't impress me as part of the look, but I was impressed at how seamlessly it disappeared once the model took it down. I really expected it to look like the model had accidentally tucked a capelet into her undies, but it blended into the rest of the skirt very well.

I liked all three but Shirins was my fave of these gals, wish she hadn't made the cape either.

Gordana's dress was stunning. Who cares if the starlet has to hold her hands out all night? These ladies starve and wreck their feet for lesser looks.

Shirin's dress was lovely, but I knew instantly that he color and length would render it far too subtle for the judges.

Irina's skirt was a whole lot of look--nearly uncontrollable on the runway. Yes, the top was reminescent of Laura Bennett, but if you're going to fault everyone for every single derrivation, we'd have to kick all the dresses off the runway.

Straight men watch PR, they just don't like to admit it.

I loved Gordana's and I'm really curious about the construction of the top. I wonder if she might have some quilting experience because it looks a little bit like a technique I've seen on quilts, only exaggerated and with a stiffened fabric to give it that 3D look. Amazing, though.

I recorded all three shows (All-Stars, 1 ep, and Models) and then watched them on separate days. I first watched the 1st episode, therefore could not cross-reference with All-Stars. But now after looking at Gordana's dress, I can say, that how you make a red-carpet dress for Nicole Kidman. The color, the bodice, the lenght all would be perfect for ms Kidman.

Just to add, I'm so glad I did not watch it in one night. It was too much and I rewound all commercials.

"My name is Shirin Askari. It means sweet in Farsi."

Oh, honey. Our names are Tom and Lorenzo and that means "bitches" in Gay.

ROFLMAO

Gawd, I love you two. Don't ever change. *big hugs and a squeeze*

By the way, I noticed Irena's rack and I'm pretty straight... well, mostly. Give me Monica Bellucci for a night and I may have another answer...

Irena's model was working it. I've got to say she could be this year's Nazri Award to the model with the most attitude and fiercest walk. It made that dress look so much better than what I felt then now that I'm looking at the closeups.

Gordana's one to watch... Right now, I would give her a spot in the finals.

Oh yes. I know more than one straight man who watches PR.

I loved Gordana's dress, and it was interesting in the "Tim extended" coaching video, explaining the "white" showing through. If telling the truth, she just didn't plain buy enough fabric. I loved the top detailing. There's a name for that...It's done with ribbon traditionally, so this was on a giant and lovely scale. I'll bet Gorgeous Ann knows! :-)

I loved all three of these dresses and didn't understand how Johnny's dress got into the finals ahead of all of these. In fact, these were my favorites of the competition. The top of Gordana's dress? W.O.W. How'd she DO that??? I agree with TLo--I wish it had been gown length to balance the top. And the way Irinia's dress moved? Divine! That was the one I wanted to wear.

As for Gordana's comment about the sheep and the sweater, my virtual hand is raised. I loved her for that comment!

I think all three of these ladies are serious contenders, and I hope they're not relegated to the "You did OK, you can leave the runway" group next time.

I loved all three of these dresses and didn't understand how Johnny's dress got into the finals ahead of all of these."

Same here, I guess I don't know much about fashion.

I really liked Irina's dress- I'm a sucker for lace and I love dresses that have great movement.

I do too, but judging by the portfolio she tends to overuse it and I have a feeling that we'll get tired of it real soon.

Yes, perhaps we'll tire of it on the runway, and as a feature of her collection, BUT, do I get tired of wearing dresses that move that way? Hell no!

Boys, HOW could you not mention the "insane crotch" on that model?? Here I thought there would be some bitchy snipe about it and you offered me nothing. Thanks for the "Oh, honey. Our names are Tom and Lorenzo and that means "bitches" in Gay."

And where was the dress you gave the Heidi award? It may have been too short, but I loved it, it's beautiful.

My absolute FAVE, however, has to go to Gordana's dress. It is to DIE for. I guarantee that any woman who would wear that to a cocktail party would get showered in compliments for the novelty factor alone. The color, too, is beautiful.

One other thing - that "give me a sheep..." quote sounds awfully familiar.

I LOVED the "cape" and the fact that it wasn't really a cape. A plus would be not having to carry (or check) it around, and it was lovely on the back.

In some of the pics, Gordana's geometric shapes look like folded tubes of fabric stitched across the middle and folder back, actually something like those fortune tellers/oragami. Quite lovely.

Between my multitasking ways and the plethora of dresses this first ep, I don't remember seeing much of any of these while watching on Thursday.

Gordana's dress is beautiful for the color alone!

While I could never wear Irina's dress for so many reasons, I think it was lovely. Agree with TLo and Tim, though, that the ribbon was "gilding the lily."

Shirin's is neither here nor there with me.

Loved Gordana's dress. The origami was beautiful, precise, crisp, and still seemed soft.

Irina's gown was pretty and I could see that on the red carpet. Actually, I believe we have. And that's okay. She pulled it off and stayed in the middle of the pack. Next week, we better see something really "wow!" from her.

Shirin...hmmm. I don't know. I'm not heavily invested in this particular dress.

You keep pointing out how the audience is all straight women and gay. This is false, as a straight man I would like to point out that I appreciated both Irina's rack and her outfit, though I understand why it didn't place top 3, those were pretty spectacular. Anyways keep the posts coming, and speaking for the straight project runway fans (all 5 of them) you guys rock!

Just wanna say - I'm really loving all these extras that Lifetime is providing!

nooooooooooo - as always, TLo, you guys "bring it" on the commentary. I've loved all the other subjects of your blogs, but BOY have I missed Project Runway. Long Live TLO!!!!! (xoxoxo -Lisa G from Saturn)

Hey, hey, you forgot us lovely bisexual women! :\
Gordana's dress was just stunning. It one of only two on the night that I would actual wear.

Even though my hand's been raised since I read your post, I love Gordana more after seeing that video.

Representing the lesbian and bisexual viewership here, my girlfriend and I love Runway, Rungay, and oh yes, some very lovely eyecandy.

"If you give me a sheep, I can make you a sweater."

Okay, show of hands. Who else suddenly became huge fans of hers with that sound bite?

*DING**DING**DING*

Damn that was a great line! I think its one for the PR ages.

And it certainly helped that she made a killer dress.

Any of these 3 dresses were fine. I liked the back of Shirin's dress-I thought it was lovely.

I truly love the 'Tim' edits. I think the Tim factor is where TFS fell short. The man was originally a teacher, and he carries that with him in his back pocket.

Gordana said she'd tried out for the show several times. It struck a chord with me that she was kicking herself because she didn't spend more.

Everything went by so fast that I completely forgot about Irina's and Shrin's. Gordana's dress stood out immediately and I thought it should have been the winner. I think she's got the goods and I'm predicting a final three spot for her.

Didn't like the cape but it was a clever concept. These dreses would have been my top three even though I did like Christopher's well enough.

"If you give me a sheep, I can make you a sweater."

I'm going to go around saying that in a deep Russian accent.

If you really want to know how Gordana did the bustline treatment, I'm guessing it was a version of origami trim. A good example similar to this was demoed on sladash sewist's sewists blog here:

Thanks guys for the great posts,
Laura

These three gals are going to be GREAT to watch as they develop over the season.
They look solid and creative (especially Gordana and Shirin), and I'm thinking that as they hit their respective grooves, they could do great things.
And may I say that I love Lifetime's extended judging and critique video? I hadn't really even noticed the cape/train element of Shirin's dress in the first viewing.
I THINK I am going to LOVE Gordana, but I can also see her going a little bit rigid and stubborn. I hope that she retains her responsiveness to good critique.

Shirin's cape-dress was absolutely darling and I would buy it in a heartbeat. I would like it long, though, so I could play French Lieutenant's Woman....

Gordana. Isn't she the sweetest little Latvian striver? She may not be Latvian. Ukrainian, Muscovite, whatever. She gets headaches she tries so hard. I loved her floaty little blue folded paper dress, and I'm a gal with boobs who would definitely wear it. I'd just tape it down on the sides to avoid armpit scarring. :)

Irina, yes quite a rack, and her dress reminded me of our not-forgotten the lovely Laura Bennett, so she stays in too.

Three thumbs up. Rooting for these betches, betches!

Gordana: Cute! Interesting. Well made and I love the color. A simple, wearable dress that's still exhuberant.

Oh by the way, GORDANA TRIED OUT FOR SEASON THREE
http://fourfour.typepad.com/fourfour/2006/07/i_know_what_you.html#more
^The proof that she did
used the same soundbyte too

Irina's: Gorgeous. One of my faves of the night. Would have liked some more color but the beige is pretty. Lovely back and gorgeous in motion. Her model was fab as well. Plus, very well made.

Shirin: Cute. Not a fan of the cape. The dress is pretty and wearable but not very exciting

These are quite impressive. I think Gordana's should have been in the top three, and perhaps Irina's as well. Shirin's is quite pretty without the cardigan. It has a real sexy '30s vibe to it, but in a short, sassy way. Love the back. I agree some color would have vaulted it up the ladder, as it would have with Irina's.

I agree with:

I completely forgot about Shirin's dress, possibly because of the length or color, or maybe because there are a million contestants.

I must've blinked.

I love the nude gown. I have never seen a comment on a nude gown, no matter how perfect, that you two didn't bitch about the color.

How quickly they forget.

Okay, now that I think of it, Shirin's was pretty amazing, too. Capulet aside. Very nice work.

In fact, they all did pretty great look, maybe a little boring (aside from Gordana), but definitely among the top tiers.

Aside from that, gawd this was a fuckin' boring challenge. Bring on the city dump or goods from the swap meets in Long Beach!

LOVE Gordana...I lived in Croatia and the stinginess drove me crazy...so i had to laugh at her going way under budget!

The great rack wasn't lost on me, as I am a lesbian. :)

Yes, some of us straight males are fans too - this one is in love with Althea and Shirin: the long and the short of it, I guess, both beautiful, not to mention great cleavage and a winning smile, respectively...

I'm rewatching this episode and I really don't get the Irina love (nor did I from the get-go). I mean, yes, the skirt moved well, but that dress was so boring and DONE.

Yawntastic.

I really loved this post amazing dresses I always love fashion and shoes please share a post about fashion
