The Tom & Lorenzo Archives: 2006 -2011
Our current site is here: www.tomandlorenzo.com

Congratulations!

We hope you bitches got a good night's sleep, because we sure as hell didn't!

Kittens, there is just SO much to discuss! We've been up half the night doing our little bloggy things but how can we complain? Lifetime served up 3 1/2 hours of PR goodness last night! We NEVER spend that much time in front of our TV.

We were right, weren't we? Despite some minor tonal shifts, the show is as it always was. In some ways even better. Or at least, better than the last couple of seasons. It's a great group of designers and there's a real energy to the whole thing, is there not?

Granted, we first caught the episode via a screener sans commercial interruptions and rewatching the show last night with all those commercials mentioning fibromyalgia and irritable bladder syndrome was a bit of a culture shock. We don't think we've ever seen so many ads for upcoming romantic comedies in one sitting. That was a bit too much Sandra Bullock and Jennifer Aniston for our stomachs.

Sure, it wasn't the most original challenge in the world. If anything, it was way too expected. But in a way, we're glad they got this one out of the way so early. Besides, a Gristedes challenge is fun (and we hope to see something similar in the coming weeks), but a red carpet challenge is a good basic tool to show the viewers what each designer is capable of. Here's 200 bucks. Make a pretty dress and show us what you've got. It's as basic as PR gets and we were fine with it.

And yeah, Lindsay Lohan could have been a joke as a judge but we were honestly surprised how...put together she was (and we ain't talking about her outfit).

Look, the term "fashion icon" (like "supermodel" and "diva") gets tossed around way too much - and we're not saying she is one - but like her or not, she's someone that designers and fashion editors pay a lot of attention to and she has real world experience when it comes to wearing red carpet dresses.

Granted, she practically has an entire wing devoted to her over at Go Fug Yourself, but despite that (or maybe because of it) she is, as they say, a "person of interest" when it comes to fashion. And wonder of wonders, she actually had some good, practical things to say to the designers. We thought she was going to do nothing more than nod her head in a drug-induced haze, but she was actually fine.

Yes, we know they mentioned that she has her own line, but let's pretend we didn't hear that.

So, Congratulations Christopher! Way to go, Mr. Home Eyebrow Waxing Kit!

There is much to love about this adorable guy, but you know what our favorite thing is?

It's the way he does that patented "they're pinning the tiara to my head right now" beauty-contest-winner move with his hands when he cries. And he cries often.

Much like the "I'm an addict and I'm going to mention it every 20 seconds or so" guy, Christopher's "I have no formal training" schtick was perhaps a bit overplayed (and in retrospect, we should have seen it for the winner's edit that it was).

But he's super-sweet and so proud of himself for making it there that honestly? He'd have to do something really bad to get on our nerves. We suspect he's going to be this season's Uncle Nick. A lovable fan favorite.

And is he an accessories queen or what? He comes with more extras than your average Barbie doll: earrings, chain, ring, watch, sunglasses, hat. You just know he drives a pink Corvette.

Alright, teasing over. Let's get to the dress.

Model: Katie Sticksel

It's a gorgeous damn dress. We'll get to the crack-smoking judging of the All-Star challenge later, but it was nice to see it followed up with a judging session chock full of decisions with which we entirely agreed.

There were a lot of pretty decent looks on the runway last night but we have to say that this was our favorite for a lot of reasons.

It looked very on-trend. Very "Anne Hathaway on the red carpet in Marchesa."

We knew it was a contender the minute Heidi laid eyes on it. She couldn't keep it off her face. You could tell she loved it.

And we agreed with the one critique she made: that the color of the ruffles was too dingy looking. Had he gone with something with a little more pop and contrast, this could have been a jaw-dropper of a dress.

It has a nice combination of sharp edginess contrasted with a soft girlishness. The only other critical thing we can say (not that it hurt him) was that he took Tim's advice about styling a little too close to heart and styled her down a little too much. We liked the shoes, but that glove was a big no and she could have used a little more oomph in the hair and makeup.

Still, a strong start and a great entry.

Now girls, as you know, we have a lot to discuss. Later today we'll get to the winner of the All-Star challenge and the auf-ee from the premiere. And of course, in the coming days, we'll be looking at every single dress from last night (all 40 of them!) and every single designer, not to mention Models of the Runway (which was surprisingly entertaining). Simmer down and don't you worry, there's not one aspect of last night that will escape the T Lo treatment. Patience, kittens.

I thought the return of Runway was great. Much better than the 2 hour pre-game show of All Stars. I can't wait to see what happens in upcoming episodes!

great review guys but looking at the top part of the dress it looks a little like my bathroom rug... just saying!

does anyone know where I can watch the episodes from last night? Although I'm huge PR and PRG fan, I do not live on the USA so I really wanted to check last night shows... thanks!

I don't envy you the work ahead (40 garments!?!), but this kitten is a over the moon thinking of all the ripping to come.

Loved the winning look, although I agreed with both Heidi and (gulp) Lilo. I didn't like the color of the ruffles, but I also think there's a little too much ruffle going on.

To be fair, however, I am highly allergic to them. While the ruffles on this dress made me a little itchy, Sweet P's red carpet look had me breaking out in hives. But, as you said, we'll get to that...

I feel like a junkie out of detox who just shot up for the first time in a year. This is truly satisfying!

I liked Christopher's dress the best out of all of them, but I wasn't "wowed". I guess I have to get back in the mindset of these designs, but in any event, I'm happy that the judges made spot-on decisions last night, and I hope they will follow suit for the rest of the season.

Can't wait for the coming posts!

i'm not dorothy gale

I just poured my second cup of coffee and there you were! I agree with the judging on THIS show - that dress was adorable and I could see Heidi wearing it.

I tried to watch Models. Really. Maybe it was just too late for me. Based on your recommendation I'll watch online.

My biggest concern of the evening was our Huggy Bear Chris. There's more of him and the falling asleep so often has me worried. He's a real sweetheart and needs to take care of himself!

When I first saw the dress, the top reminded me of Christian Siriano's peanut butter cup wrapper dress from season 4. That's just how it looked at first. lol Honestly I thought there were two other dresses (from designers who were in the middle ten) that could have won.

I was shocked to see that Lindsey Lohan was as lucid as she was... I was expecting her to sit there and be the crack head that we all know and love.

I knew it was going to be between Ra'mon's blue dress and Christopher's 80's prom dress and after hearing Nina say that everything 80's is back I kind of knew he had it in the bag. It was a good episode, although I have many opinions about the All Star show, so please get to that quickly!

Hey TLo,

If you reading, please STOP posting the pic and name of the winner/looser designer/dress! I can't watch the show until Friday evenings and still visit your website couple of times. Keep the recaps coming, but choose different titles and pictures! So that doesn't give away the suspense! PLEASE

Boys, remember to HYDRATE! Now, get to work! :-)

Does he look a little bit like a more butch Sean Hayes to anyone else?

That being said, I thought he deserved the win. I saw the dresses coming down the runway and I knew it was between him and Ra'mon. Beautiful dresses. (Jonny's was awful. No construction, she looked like she was naked, I think la nina called it easy and I was like EASY TO GET OFF. EASY TO GET INTO. THE GIRL INSIDE OF IT IS EASY. COME ON, NINA! But that's another complaint for another day).

He definitely needs some color choice work though. But I like him in all his Sean Hayes cuteness.

The top of Christopher's dress reminded me of partially unspooled rolls of 35 mm film.

Which is to say that I loved it.

I was really surprised that Ari was aufed. They never get rid of the "wacky" one right away.

Christopher himself reminds me of JD Fortune, the winner of Rock Star:INXS. I really likes his dress. I had to pause on each dress on the runway, though, because they were so darn fast! I swear, I know they had a ton of designers to get through but they only gave each 10 seconds and you couldn't see much of the dresses. Personally, I loved Nicolas's little black dress the most, but I know you'll get to that.

And thank you for mentioning Mr. Mentions My Meth Addiction Every 20 Seconds. That was so getting on my nerves.

As someone who has a recovering addict in the family, I've come to the conclusion they talk about because it helps them to stay on track. If you say all the time you're an addict it's a lot better than obsessing silently about your addiction. It gives you more of an opportunity to call for support when necessary.

I also think Johnny should have won last night. His dress was far more original and interesting than any dress on the runway. I'm rooting for Johnny, Irina and Ramon.

Mitchel can suck my drag queen ass. I really think he's a piece of shit.

"they're pinning the tiara to my head right now"
Already with the instant classics screep caps!
Missed you guy's take on this stuff immensely! Looking forward to your take on the All-Stars with bated breath....

Meadow

"When I first saw the dress, the top reminded me of Christian Siriano's peanut butter cup wrapper dress from season 4."

Complete word. I thought he was going to be second to Ra'mon. (I have no idea what Johnny was doing in the top 3... that dress was not cute. I thought he was bottom 3 and Kyrstal was top 3.)

But I can accept Christopher's win... it was interesting and it clearly took a lot of work.

THANK YOU for mentioning the commercials. I knew I couldn't be the only one who was thinking it was pretty painful.

"Later today we'll get to the winner of the All-Star challenge and the auf-ee from the premiere."

Today? Today? Oh thank you, thank you. Now I am going to start refreshing the screen like an addict. No room for me to criticize.

Congrats to Christopher. Straighten the hat a little bit and I'd be in love.

Maybe it's just me, but I thought the models show was boring. The show was great, though. And how funny was Michael Kors last night?! God, I've missed him.

-beth

I can't wait to read your comments on the "All Star" show. The clothes must have looked far different in person, because I have no other explaination for the outcome! By the way, Sissy Bear was robbed.

I want that wonderful red handbag on the Macy's accessory wall.

TampaBay

Put a pot of coffee up boys, gonna be a long few days! Love you and thanks for doing this with your usual panache.

I also immediately thought of Anne Hathaway on the red carpet when I saw Christopher's dress. The ruffles were beautiful but a too-dull color, yet most bright colors would kick this right over to gaudy Broadway costume. I guess ratcheting the ruffles up to a soft, dusty rose is about all I'd change.

Ra'mon-Lawrence's gown was stupendous, and it just screamed red carpet. Honestly, I would have been happy with either pick.

Michael Kors was SO muted that even his nuclear orange color faded into the background. The women were carrying him this time. But Tim was absolutely darling! OMG, have I missed that wonderful man. And it's great to be able to watch Tim's entire critiques on the mylifetime.oom web site.

wow you boys are heroes. up and at 'em with the recap already! i can't wait to watch the TiVo tomorrow. (don't mind spoilers though.)

*sits back to enjoy the conversation and upcoming deets*

Great post boys!! I'm so glad PR is back!!
Whew!!!
I loved Christopher's dress!! It looked like a dress I wore to prom cerca 1989!!

And thank GOD they're doing the model pick in the model show instead of the beginning of PR!! More sewing time!!

And I can't WAIT till ur All-star post!!!

I never realized how much I missed your wonderfully snarky critiques until I started reading today's post. Thanks TLO! Can't wait for the next ripping.

The judges made the correct choice. I do disagree; however, that the dress would have been better with ruffles in another color. The color chosen gave it a subdued elegance. A "pop" of color would have made it an entirely different dress, and perhaps not as elegant.

I was pleasantly surprised with Lindsay Lohan. She had her own opinions and comments which were valid and contributed something to the show. You go, girl.

Great show.

~Sewjourner

My biggest complaint? I don't get Lifetime in HD.

I don't think models should speak ;-)

I loved last night! Christopher and Ra'mon-Lawrence were my faves partly because they're awesome and partly because they're Minnesota boys! I'm proud as punch.

I actually loved the color of Christopher's ruffles. It looked very girly shabby chic, and played on the undertones of the darker fabric. Granted, it didn't hold up against the model's skin tone. I'd have either gone one shade lighter or one shade darker.

And just one less ruffle on the bottom would have made it PERFECTION.

C'est moi, c'est moi Lola

40 Garments!!???

Break out the cocaine and energy drinks boys, 'cause you just might need them!

Can't wait to read your reactions to the All-Star Challenge, and I can't wait for the Season 6 designer's nicknames to be formed!

I also turned on 2 more people to your site, and they love it!

Thanks, TLo!

Eveyone must have better eyesight than me because the dresses came down the runway so fast that other than the final six on the runway, I do not remember any of the dresses in any detail.

TampaBay

I can I just thank the Goddess for providing such a SPECTACULAR day for the rooftop champagne kickoff! How often does the sky look this pristine in L.A.?!?

Morning all. Been pounding down the coffee and tylenol after the wild night. My virtual hangover feels surprisingly real.

I'm so satisfied the PR is back and as good as ever. I loved Christopher's dress the minute it came down the runway but Ra'mon's was lovely too. It was a real toss up on who was to get auf'ed. Mitchell's and Ali's were equally hideous. Just glad the show is back and the world is settled a little better on its axis.

bitchybitchybitchy

And is he an accessories queen or what? He comes with more extras than your average Barbie doll: earrings, chain, ring, watch, sunglasses, hat. You just know he drives a pink Corvette.

OMG- I heart you two so much, TLO!

Christopher is adorable, and there is something endearing about him.

It was cognitive dissonance for me last night. I just could not reconcile Project Runway with all the chick flick commercials and promos with the cast of Army Wives. The show felt out of place in its surroundings, really.

It was also too much PR TV for me in one night. The All-Star challenge made me tired and cranky and the Model show bored me.

Did anyone else think that Ari looked a lot like Samantha Ronson? I wondered what La Lohan thought of that.

Wow...talk about PR hangover! But in a GREAT way.
OK, OK...I'm not crazy about Christopher or his winning dress. The top looks like fleurchons made out of Glad trash bags. The look to me was "funereal on crack".
I really thought Ra'mon's should have won. Very elegant.
Mr. MethHead was driving me nuts, as was his crappy mess of a dress.
The judges must have been dipping into his stash for even putting him there.

Am I the only one who thinks Gordana's dress should be on the top 3????

Maybe I am, but (and although i haven't seen the episode) from what I can tell from the pictures it was chic, flirty and beautiful on its simplicity...

its so good to be back to all things projectrunway.

a fun 3 hours, i have to watch the model show tonight. my local paper is showing that lifetime is re-running it all shows again tonight.

i also agree the dresses were shown so fast, i couldnt tell what was going on. so looking forward to your post.

i truly could have done with out lilo. glad she is out of the way for a guest judge. whatever.

thanks boys!

It was weird; it's been SO LONG we've been waiting for this season to start, but once the show started, it was like the last season ended just last week (except that I cannot remember who the contestants were).

It seemed like the biggest difference was the rooftop shots of Heidi & Tim bathed in golden Hollywood light.

I wish they had shown even a few seconds of Christopher constructing the top part of his dress. And as I said in the lounge last night (about 8000 comments in), having to stand there on national TV and have Lindsey Lohan (or any other Lohan) lecture you about what is appropriate has got to be a lowpoint in one's life (can't remember now who she gave that too).

But overall-- SO GOOD to have our PR back!

I can't wait to read your comments on the "All Star" show. The clothes must have looked far different in person, because I have no other explaination for the outcome! By the way, Sissy Bear was robbed.

Good Lord, wasn't he robbed??? If Sissy didn't win, at least Korto should have won. I love, love Daniel, but his clothes looked like biking clothes mixed with something indecipherable on the bottom. At that was the winner???? Serious producer manipulation.

I a sorry to go on about this, but after that judging, I was totally turned off to watch the next hour. I was yelling at the TV. Chris March's collection was gorgeous, elegant, beautifully made, WTF???

"Tlo said: all those commercials mentioning fibromyalgia and irritable bladder syndrome was a bit of a culture shock."

I muted the sound to zero during every commercial break. It was the only way to get through it. One has to wonder if the Lifetime viewers have these irritable bladder issues because their old geezer hubbies are watching channels full of commercials for natural male enhancement. Poor dears.

------------
I have to echo your WTF!!! I absolutely LOVED Chris' collection.
Ok...I know we are both off topic here, but I am still getting over my giant snit about Daniel winning with that shitty collection.
It should have been Chris or Korto...sniff......totally gorgeous, wearable designs on both their parts.

Grand to have you back, boys! I agree, Christopher's dress was IMO the best one up there. I also agree with several posters who felt the color of the ruffles worked well -- that anything too bright would have made it look too costume-y, or, to quote American Idol on Adam Lambert, too "Broadway." I think Christopher made a good choice; perhaps a bit more "blush" of a neutral would have been ideal...OR, ooooh, maybe an interesting dark blue? I'm just sayin'...

Breathless much? PR and this blog bring that out in me. I'm so happy right now!

Does anyone know if they put the All Star Challenge on Lifetime On Demand?

I thought Christopher's dress had the most "impact energy" though perhaps Johnny's had more sustaining interest. But it's all about first impressions on the red carpet and Christopher's had it. Good decision.

Now if he'd just shave the leprechaun beard....

and can I just say how much I swooned to watch the insanely intelligent, carefully considered thought processes and pronouncements of Tim Gunn AND Diane von Furstenburg? My IQ shot up 20 points over the course of that one hour.

Yes!

SO satisfying!

& if their website & online video are close to being as advertised (*could* any major entertainment corporation's website be worse than Bravo's?) I will contentedly put up with endless ads for feminine hygeine, erectile dysfunction and all the ills to which middle aged flesh is heir to.

I still can't get over the prospect of being able to watch extended judges' deliberations. It's a full 40% of my complaints about Bravo PR remedied right there.

Thanks for the work you put in to have this up first thing.

Ugh, Christopher irritated me. Way too much sobbiness from these people. STOP CRYING AND MAKE A DRESS.

Mishi: To me, Christopher looks like a cuter Ben Affleck.

Cuddles: I agree that Gordana should have been top 3 instead of Exmeth-head.

Tlo: you were right, Heidi is actually looking chic and classy, the show's energy is totally there (after being kinda flat last season) and you better make it work because your hordes of loyal minions won't get anything done until the next 3 posts are thoroughly parsed.

Carry on!

Completely agree with the winner. I will save other comments for other posts later...

You noticed the pageant cry too? Adorable

great to have the PR morning after discussions again!!! yay!!!

but regarding the Lifetime commercials, my head almost exploded with the "topiary plants" women shaving commercials..... what??? really, who still has time for that????

I have missed you guys almost as much as I missed Tim Gunn! Great commentary, as usual. Funny, smart and dead on.

AGREE!

The problem with this dress, to me, is that the top part looks like it was part of a Gristedes challenge and made from garbage bags. I love the ruffles though.

Wow, Bravo is running Season three right now.

Brie,
I agree with you, the top of the dress does not look expensive or sophisticated.... it looks plasticky somehow....

Yes! I totally thought that too... I was impressed with how Lindsay handled herself on TV. I thought it would be a trainwreck, but she actually had some good comments.

Since I know your blog is being read by the PR powers that be:

Thank you thank you thank you for 1. Making full episodes available on line and 2. For posting extended judging videos. For example, the show edit would have make us believe that the judges never saw Crystal's (spl) gown from the back. The extended judging video demonstrates not just that they saw it but that they loved it and it was the back that saved her. Also the extended judging showed why the eliminated the Lindsey's girlfriend look alike and kept the naked lady.

I hope Lifetime posts the All Star show online as well as extended judging on that. I really want to understand the logic and see the details the judges see that are lost in translation on a TV screen.

Maybe he's a Ben Affleck/Sean Hayes hybrid sent to us from the gods to make us go D'awww

So nice to have Project Runway and the recaps back! I don't have many comments about the first winning entry, but I could tell that Christopher was getting an edit, and judging from the dress, near the top of the pack.

I watched & Loved it! The show has the same flavor it always did. I loved when Tim said " Halter Diaper."

I look forward to reading all your blog posts on season 6.

BTW--why was Laura B not on the All Star show? Do you know?

The Recessionista,
http://therecessionista.blogspot.com/2009/08/project-runway-returns-one-day-it-was.html

Laura has her own reality show with Bravo so she can't possibly appear on the enemy network.

Absolutely LOVED this dress and he's cute to boot : )

YAY You bitches are back!!!
This was not my favorite (I like Ra'mon's better) but I can see a young starlet wearing this on the red carpet.

GORGE! My favorite, I'm glad he won!

It totally reminded me of Marchesa, you guys are right, very textured and girly at the same time.

Congrats, Christopher!!! As Michael said, girly and edgy at the same time, I really liked it.

"Granted, we first caught the episode via a screener sans commercial interruptions and rewatching the show last night with all those commercials mentioning fibromyalgia and irritable bladder syndrome was a bit of a culture shock. ROFL. My friends and I said the same thing.

I didn't like this dress at all, it looks like a bathroom rug.

You're complaining about the commercials!?!? I was OVERJOYED that I didn't have to watch ENDLESS ads for the Deluded Housewives of Pittsburgh, Rachel Zoe, and that Jeffery house flipping guy. Bravo rarely found anyone that would buy advertising time for Runway so they had to fill it with shilling for their own shows. Lifetime had real commercials lastnight , companies who see Runway's viewers as a highly desirable consumer demographic. Bravo, evidently never could sell advertisers on Runway the way Lifetime can.

O. K.

I think they meant it as a joke.

HellsKitchenDude

SO excited PR is back and you guys will have plenty to say : )

Cuddles 8/21/09 9:16 AM: "Am I the only one who thinks Gordana's dress should be on the top 3????"

No, I loved her dress, too, and was surprised it wasn't top 3. Maybe it wasn't because it was short and looked more like a party dress instead of red carpet in the judges minds, but I liked it better than the other two top three dresses.

I agree with the people who liked the color of the ruffle. Since Christopher said he wanted something a little "punk" to the dress, I thought having a "dirty ruffle" said "punk" to me. A prettier or brighter color may have made it pop, but it would also have lost some of its edge.

And in the "who does Christopher remind you of" sweepstakes, I thought he looks like Eric Bana's cute but goofy younger brother.

I agree the glove was a big no, that was a little too distracting and cheapened the look a bit. I loved the dress, perfect for a young star.

LisaYouKnowWho

CONGRATULATIONS CHRISTOPHER!!!! YOU ROCK!!!!!

...sigh...it's as if The Fashion Show never happened...all night I felt like George Bailey at the end of "It's a Wonderful Life"!

He's so cute, I think I'm in love with him. The dress? Fab? Congrats, hottie!

I am liking Christopher from what I saw last night. I agree that the ruffles could have had more pop but I do like it as it is now as well. I definitely was into this dress from the get-go!

However - I have to say that I loved the blue geometric dress from Gordana (right? I forget whose it was...)

Christopher's crying has not gotten to me yet but give it time =p

Johnny Addiction pulled at my heartstrings last night but if this continues.....it may wear on me.....

Overall I enjoyed this episode and I can not wait for your posts!

I maintain that LiLo was a joke. But honestly, I am so biased against her, my opinion needs to be discarded!

I DVR'd the ep so I fast forwarded thru the tiresome Lifetime ads.....

Honestly, I was so happy this morning!! Thank goodness PR is back!

I thought it was a great episode. I would not have picked this dress out as the winner -- I liked some things about it, but it didn't really knock me out. It's funny, because I honestly thought Christopher would be the first to go home, because all Tim had to say about him was that he wore his heart on his sleeve.

OK, there is waaaaaaaay too much on the Lifetime site, seriously, I'm having a hard time finding what I REALLY want to see or watch.

lovemesomelogan

First, for those who spoiled the outcome of the all star challenge, I haven't watched it yet because I dvr'd it. Dangit. Now I know the end. Second, I had to stay up late and watch the rerun of the premiere because my satellite went out 10 minutes into the show and stayed out until the runway show. Doh! Third, how cute is Christopher? Love the pageant reference. And I loved his dress. But I was glad to see Ari go, even if Mitchell deserved it more. BTW, who else thinks Epperson might be a contender?

And even though they showed him only a smidge, I'm gonna go with my initial impression that my go to guy for the season is the sexy Logan. Seems the models agree with me. And I still lovemesomedanielv. But I lovemsometlo the best!

My brain completely overloaded last night and I didn't make it through Models. I only half-watched the last hour of PR, so I'll have to go back and review.

3.5 hours of unseen PR = complete meltdown!

My dear, you will have to stay away from your computer if you don't want to be spoiled, it's all over the Internet, you can't avoid it.

Congrats, Christopher!!! Now stop crying : P

Sitting here this morning in a warm glow of happiness, I bless you boys for getting on the job so quickly. It was all you said it would be, and the judging was actually decent. (As opposed to the all-star show, of course.)

I thought Christopher deserved the win, but I agree with the poster who wanted to see more of the construction of that one. And I liked the ruffle color and length just fine- any shorter in a full dress like that would have put the knickers (or more) on full display any time the model moved.

I am enjoying the bonus features from Lifetime like the extended judging clip. I will slip on over and see what else I can find while waiting for your next post.

You and me both, GT. They were so annoying. In no way, shape or form would I watch any other Lifetime shows, thanks to those commercials.

I thought Lindsay Lohan did a great job as a judge, much better than I expected. Now that they have done the red carpet challenge I hope they move on to other things that do not require a Hollywood bimbo.

Awesome! Thanks for adding the extended judging video, guys!

I don't know, I have a feeling that Christopher got lucky this time, I just don't see him going too far, I don't know, just my gut feeling.

YES!!! CUTE BOY WON!!

I completely agree!!! The Lifetime commercials definitely merit good-natured snark, but Lifetime is treating PR like a cherished princess. It is no small feat to line up A-Listers / former A-listers like Nicole Kidman and Kate Hudson to do promo spots, or if it is Bravo never bothered to do so, rather they spent their time indulging themselves by lining up fashion titans like Sandra Bernhard, I will take LiLo over Sandra Bernhard anyday.

As far as the commercials are concerned, are promos for Army Wives and Woman in Peril MOTW really worse than promos for NYC Prep and Real Housewives of...? In my opinion, I think Lifetime stole Bravo's approach to heavy promotion of its other shows, yet and still Lifetime has a long way to go before it is in striking distance of Bravo in cross-promotion overload - although, on a side note, one silver lining is that it is a helpful indicator when I fast-forward through taped shows or when I hear the announcer's voice I know it's time to scoot back in the room to watch the show.

YES!!! CUTE BOY WON!!

He reminds me of Keith. Didn't Keith do ruffles and stuff too?

LaFemmeFataledeNY

Fabulous little dress, I want it, it's cute, girly, and sassy.

Thank you for all the posts, Tlo! You must be exhausted : o)

I thought the return of Runway was great. Much better than the 2 hour pre-game show of All Stars.

I thought the All-Stars Challenge was kind of waste of time, but I'll get to that later when the boys post their thoughts.

It's so nice to have a new season, guys. I'm in Heaven right now. I liked Christopher's dress, but I would've given it to Ramon. His dress was very dramatic and intricate.

8/21/09 8:17 AM Does [Christopher] look a little bit like a more butch Sean Hayes to anyone else?
=============
Very gay Peter Brady to me.

And seriously, smocking ain't all that. These days, it's reserved for toddler dresses.

CanIGetYouAnythitng?

It definitely felt like the old Project Runway, all I need now is lots and lots of TLO posts :)

It's great to be back! Thank you in advance for all of the snark 3.5 hours of PR is going to require. Pink Corvette...hehe...you're the best, Daddies!

Cuddles 8/21/09 9:16 AM: "Am I the only one who thinks Gordana's dress should be on the top 3????"

Noooo, I agree with you 100%. It was gorgeous, loved the shape, the detail at the bust, the color - I would wear that dress. The other designer who got short shrift IMO was Ivana - I liked it for the nano-second I could see it during the telecast, but upon review on my DVR it was really a stunner. Christopher, Gordana and Irina were MY Top 3.

Count me in as someone who loves Christopher's dress just the way it is - and count me in as someone who likes the chinstrap just fine thank you very much :P Plus, it works for his kinda-fem frat-boy vibe.

Anyway, I'll celebrate the fact that he had just the right proportions. If the dress were any longer or fuller it'd just look too heavy and stiff.

Sorry about my post above, I called Irina Ivana, but y'all knew what I meant...

To all of those complaining about announcements on this blog--if the shows has aired to all time zones of the USA than they can't be called "spoilers." If you TiVO or tape to watch later and don't want to know the outcome, just come back here after you do watch it. The posts will still be up for you to read when you do, otherwise you take that risk in your own hands.

Would it be possible not to post a pic on the main page that has part of the winning dress showing, in the future? MAJOR spoiler.

Wow! A gaggle of talented designers instead of the ragtag bunch of Season 5! Weeping! Addiction wobblies! LiLo making articulate comments! Tim and Michael and Nina, Oh my!

Loved Christopher's dress; thought the aufing was spot on. If they'd kept Ari for her Blayne-like entertainment factor I would have thrown my cat at the TV, a la Mean Girl.

"You just know he drives a pink Corvette", TLo, I love you guys.

Umm... I have to say they picked the right winner, but overall I was really unimpressed by last nights entries.

I thought I read that this first PR challenge was a last-minute change.. Can TLo tell us what it was supposed to be and why the last minute change?

----
Not overwhelmed by Christopher's dress. It was nice and a fair winner. What was Jonny's mess doing there; actually when they started with the crying addict routine, it did seem like they would bend over backwards to protect him. Like Caridee talking about attempting suicide, I think reality tv sometimes does not want to be a catalyst for people to flip out.

----

The lighting seemed poor; almost TFS level in some cases.

---
Finally, I thought I heard - in PR6 or All-Stars - that the designers were told to do Red Carpet GOWNS. Did anyone else hear that? Because some people's definition of a RC Gown is vastly different than mine, apparently.

BTW where you laughing your butt off when Heidi said " she's spent a lot of time on the Red Carpet" Umm yes Heidi Linds has been sprawled across many red carpets :)

Thanks, Boys, for the Extended Judging video. I do have to beg to differ with the Duchess on his comment that the ruffle on Christopher's dress should have been an "optic white." I think that would have looked horrible, much more classy and subtle to go with what he had. Also, I guarantee that had it been white the words "French" and "Maid" would have inevitably been tossed about as they always are when the panel is faced with a black dress with a white ruffle in any way, shape or form -- I can think of several past examples without even straining.

just wanted to get Shirin's name out there as another overlooked design. I liked that the cape was also the bow and laid lovely in both functions.

Doug Poplawski

Hoist some bubbly (beer, champagne, ginger ale; your choice) and salute the return of the original reality TV show. I am not a fashionista by any stretch. But I love to watch this show because you can learn that there are fashion No-No's. I loved the low angle shot of Heidi and Tim on the runway with the Lifetime Jet in the background. Loved it.

Kudos to Tim for talking down the meth meltdown mess, Chris. He is more than a fashion personality he is a leader folks, born and bred!

Can't wait for next week.

No, it would not be possible to do that. As it is, we've already conceded to the requests that we not put spoilers in the titles so they don't show up on people's RSS readers. If you haven't seen PR yet, then please don't come to a blog devoted to discussing the show to complain about spoilers. Watch the episode when you can and come back then.

We want to be accommodating, but that's a bit much to ask.

I was in 7th Heaven last night. So much Runway! And I loved the winning dress. I can see the girls around here begging for one of those for prom most definitely. Youthful, fresh, and still a bit of edge.

Sigh.

We're back!

I feel sort of bad about this, but as the meth guy was kind of droning on and on and then sitting down with Tim, I was getting a little bit of a "sack up" attitude.

And then I felt guilty because Tim was so nice to him, and obviously liked him and was treating the whole breakdown so seriously, I was like, "God, I'm more of a bitch than I thought!"

Really, none of you guys were irritated last night by him? It's really going to take a couple of shows?

Just wouldn't be PR with out you guys!!!! Loved the drees, and the fact that he's from MN

Finally, a result I'm happy with after that debacle of an All Stars finale. I thought the dress had great proportions and the color of the ruffles was just right. Any pop of color would have pushed it into flamenco dancer territory. The glove was a serious mistake but I didn't even notice it on the runway. Congrats, Christopher. Let's hope this self-taught hottie sticks around for a while!

And both he and Ramon (sorry, can't do the ridiculous apostrophe thing) are from Minnesota? I guess any state that can produce both Bob Dylan and Prince must have some bit of frozen fabulosity.

so far christopher's my favorite, i loved the dress he made- although i do agree that the color for the ruffles did look dingy, a whiter white or a pink would've been cute. also it helps that shakopee is just the next town over from my hometown :-D go minnesota!

TLo, forget the fibromyalgia commercials. All those lady products were just mesmerizing! How did I never notice that when a woman carrying a razor walks by a bush, it is instantly trimmed into the shape of various styles of grooming for lady parts? I also wasn't aware that when a woman gets her period, someone actually gives her a gift wrapped in red paper. Those commercials really were a revelation. And by revelation, I mean deeply disturbing.

I'm also going to pretend they didn't mention LiLo's line. ;-)

I was also pleasantly surprised that it was so much like the previous seasons. I was worried about changes when it went to Lifetime and to L.A., but it's still our beloved PR!

That said - for the very first time - I found that zoom-zoom-zoom music as they were running around Mood to be kind of tiring. I'm glad they didn't change it, because they already made two huge changes (Lifetime & L.A.) but I think the music needs some updating next season.

My one criticism of the show has been the same since season 1: I wish they would show the clothes close-up more often. I still don't understand what the top of Christopher's dress was made of. Did he buy that textured fabric? Did he made that texture with ribbon? Or fabric?

If they would show the clothes inside out, I'd faint from the fabness.

I have missed you boys so and I look forward to every critique of every dress. I can't wait to read about your opinions on these 40 dresses! I love your commentary on everything, but you shine brightest in the PR light.

I thought one thing last night - all hail the Duchess - his snarky bitchery was so on and how I've missed him so.

I agree that this was the winner the moment I laid eyes on it. Nothing else even came close and I also saw that "I must have this" look on Frau Seal's face.

(sighs happily)

Doing what you guys do best!

My second comment, about the show this time...It was just as good. I really didn't notice any major difference in the overall tone or feel and the production quality was good. While I always want more time to see the dresses on the runway, I actually thought they spent a wee bit more time on that than Bravo did. There were so many dresses that they're inevitably going to go by fast. I'm eager to see the screen caps because I thought there were a lot of beautiful dresses out there, many of them better than the meth head's. And I'm with you, Anne. I would have told that manipulative POS to man up or get the hell out. I guess that's why Tim Gunn is an icon and I'm not. I remember really liking Gordana's, Epperson's, and a couple of others - maybe Louise's and Carol Hannah's. So I'm eager to see a dissection of those.

The biggest surprise was Lilo. I loathe her but she was surprisingly articulate. Better than a lot of the previous celebrity judges, actually. At least they've got the skank ho out of the way. When is Bob Mackie coming on? Shouldn't he have been the one to judge a red carpet look?

The commercials don't bother me at all because I TIVO everything these days and start watching shows 10 minutes in so I can fast forward through all the commercials (sorry, advertisers). But I think it's really rather sweet that Lifetime is so apparently thrilled to be at the cool kids' table now. They're pulling out all the stops treating this show like the crown jewel it is. And really, I'd much rather watch an ad for feminine hygiene products or Army Wives than for any of those ridiculous Housewives shows. Kudos to Lifetime. Our show is in good hands.

I was rather annoyed that Ari left before that nude dress maker. That outfit would be perfect for the VMAs or the MTV Movie awards red carpet. Funky and it looked well made.

That nude dress was a nightmare. that poor girl.

And I am ashamed to admit this. After two weeks of reminding everyone that PR moved to Lifetime, I set my vcr to Bravo. Duh!!!!! Missed the All Star Challenge, but caught it before PR came on.

I enjoyed the models show. We get to see their personalities. This will be pure drama...let the catfights comence!

"So, Congratulations Christopher! Way to go, Mr. Home Eyebrow Waxing Kit!"

You know, there's something endearing about a guy who is dressed like a douchebag, but doesn't act like one. He is a cutie and I thought that dress was perfection - even with that dingy ruffle. This S6 has potential, indeed. The judges got it right this time, unlike the fuckery that preceded it. Congrats Chris!

You just know he drives a pink Corvette.

Oh it's like falling in love all over again. This is why I come here.

Gooch - agreed on the beard.

The tears? Enough Ladies! Just make the dress. Where was Zulema when we needed her?

...and holy fuck, those GD commercials drove me up a wall last night. I wanted to empty fifty rounds of buckshot into my television set...

But Lifetime did do a fine job not screwing with the show itself - even keeping the same background music. Well done.

alexsim said: "Did anyone else think that Ari looked a lot like Samantha Ronson? I wondered what La Lohan thought of that."

YES YES YES! I noticed that too - the resemblance was eerie. I'm sure it unnerved La Lohan beaucoup; no doubt she was a vocal part of that auftage, helped her work out some lingering anger and resentment...

What's more addictive and entertaining, Project Runway and Mad Men's return, or you guys blogging about it? I do believe it's a tie, keep it comin guys!

Omg I hated that Lindsay Lohan was a judge!! What a joke! Other than that, it was a great first episode. Fancast is actually hosting a live chat with the newly booted designer each Friday starting today. Thought you might be interested! Check it out- Project Runway Fancast Chat

Congratulations to Christopher for his dress. I will say I wasn't impressed as a group by all the dresses. Not for red-carpet gowns.

I'm glad they got rid of Ari (Ms. I-don't-sketch) now rather than later. I rolled my eyes at Johnny Addiction. Usually I'm more sympathetic but all I could think was a very Zulema-ish "shut up and sew bitch!" Cute-boy title goes to Logan. I wouldn't ever consider Christoper until he shaves that fugly chinstrap off. NO ONE looks good in that.

TLo said: "Besides, a Gristedes challenge is fun"

Y'all should be watching PR Australia. The last episode (#7) had just that.

-- Vince

The designers were fine, the challenge was fine, the guest judge was fine, but we all know what makes it possible for Project Runway to take on all comers...Tim Gunn. He's a prince.

Long-time reader, first time poster! :)

When I saw that dress I immediately saw Marchesa like you guys did. But, that doesn't necessarily mean I liked the dress. The silhouette was hot but I HATED the fabrics it was rendered in. I really feel like Shirin deserved the win, but Christopher was a totally acceptable choice, too - I could see how it was fashionable and on-trend, and clearly the judges were moist over it.

I'm glad PR is back and it seemed similar, but not quite as good. Maybe it's because the first episode is mostly just directing traffic because there are so many designers, but the edits seemed to be quicker than normal. And I didn't see much of the wit that the Elves were so good at and that made second, third, and fourth viewings so much fun. Maybe it will show up. I hope so.

Yeah for Chris's win. He made a cute little dress. I agreed with Heidi that the ruffle color looked kind of dingy. I'd have made it pop, not with color, but with something that's a true cream rather than flesh tone.

And Lindsay wasn't a train wreck, but she also didn't bring the same level of knowledge that a designer would have. She's judging based more on "Would I wear that?" which we already get from Heidi. It's one way to look at fashion, especially for the red carpet, but it is a limited perspective.

i thoroghly enjoyed last night's show -- all of my fears have been diminished.

LOVED christopher's dress. i also loved ramon's -- i would have been happy if either one had won. there were a couple of others i would have liked to have seen in the top 3 over johnny's...i didn't like that one much at all. but overall i think the judges got it right...

to the person who asked "Finally, I thought I heard - in PR6 or All-Stars - that the designers were told to do Red Carpet GOWNS. Did anyone else hear that? Because some people's definition of a RC Gown is vastly different than mine, apparently." i don't remember if the term "gown" was used, but i do recall at least on the s6 show that tim specifically told them there were many red carpet occasions, including grammys, mtv awards, etc. and not all required formal gowns. and for the all stars, nicole kidman specified that the red carpet design was for a premiere, so that, too is generally not ultra formal wear...

8/21/09 10:43 AM First, for those who spoiled the outcome of the all star challenge, I haven't watched it yet because I dvr'd it. Dangit. Now I know the end.
============

Go ahead and watch the All Star Challenge anyway because the outcome really isn't that important and we're all disagreeing with it anyway.

This look was totally recycled from his portfolio!!!

Look, the bottom of the dress is the same as the top of his first challenge dress: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FW86_jO7k_A/SmXGPAA9FwI/AAAAAAABHcY/IONTBrAuUjA/s1600-h/Project%2BRunway%2BSeason%2B6%2BDesigner%2BCollection%2B7.jpg

How lame!

Besides the shave your bush and evil monthly period commercials, I enjoyed the show. Except that it went way to fast and had a hard time trying to figure out the designs. I wish that Bitchell Hall went home, he really made a bad dress, and felt sorry for his model who went home at the end of the model show. She really had bad luck being paired up with Bitchell. She also commented that she helped him with his dress.

Such a great first episode back. I really like Chris's dress, but I completely agree with Heidi about the color of the bottom. If he had made that a brighter pink instead, it would have been even more VMA's. You boys have so much to do! Eeeep! It is a good thing you love us :).

Oh and I really want to thank you guys for not putting the winner's name up. I just made myself not look at the picture. hehe I had seen the All-Star challenge, but get up way too early to watch the season premiere. You guys rock!

Maybe it's just that photo, but does Heidi have a bit of a lazy eye?

I thought it was a recycling challenge because the dress looked like it was made of trash bags. Good shape but could've used something stronger.

The model show was the worst. Bad idea. If I watch that again it will make me hate Project Runway. Apparently it's true that models should be seen and not heard. They are all pointless drama and no substance. A complete waste of time.

You are going to review evverry look from last night? Blog love.

I would really like to see Christopher's dress with maybe an electric blue ruffle.

Also, wow! LiLo was coherent and gave useful critiques. I was so proud of her. It gave me hope she might yet return to her Mean Girls glory days.

(as far as spoiler complaints go, what else do you think would be on the Rungay blog the day after Runway airs? Criminey. Don't change a thing.)

Bleah. I disliked the dress. I was like "Of COURSE Heidi & LiLo love it!" It looks like a Barbie dress (speak of the devil) ... but it was well-made and -designed. Just not my style. Fine, it was cute. Good job, Chris!

Don't why but when I saw Christopher's dress I felt like I had seen it before. I've racked my brain and still can't figure it out, but it's really preventing me from liking it.

Overall, my fav so far is Ra'mon (how is it pronounced again? Like Ramen noodles??) I thought his was the best of the top 3 for sure, but there were some other contenders in the safe group as well.

This might jog your memory:

http://www.lizacorbett.com/news/uploaded_images/00350m-741584.jpg

Congrats, Christopher! You had the best dress!!

"they're pinning the tiara to my head right now"

Ha ha!

Yes, the judging on this episode was MUCH better than on the all-star challenge.

Of the top 3 this was the best. That's about all I have to say about it.

Was anyone else bothered by the editing of the catwalk? There were so many reaction cutaways and HUGE GRAPHICS that it was almost impossible to see the garments!! It felt so rushed and choppy. Did they hire someone from America's Got Talent to edit that portion of the show?

When I saw the dress, I started laughing. It looked so much like my daughter's senior prom dress - including the gloves. BTW her prom was 21 years ago.

Man, that model was full of herself for no reason whatsoever. I wanted to shake her!

Also, this? "they're pinning the tiara to my head right now" ...hilarious. So true, too. The men this season gotta pull it together or I'll just keep laughing at them!

And a few minutes into this new ep I KNEW you boys would be loving that these designers are younger and more raw than those from seasons 4-5 which were a serious downgrade in entertainment. Apparently the better the designer, the more boring the personality? That doesn't seem to hold true with La Kors, but actually, his ready-to-wear (IMO) is FUG.
And did anybody notice that LiLo wasn't saying a damn thing when the judges deliberated? I'm sure it was edited that way, but it made me think she had nothing further. I was surprised at how articulate she was, though, just like you guys. But honestly, can we get judges like Iman and DVF and Fern Mallis and not revert back to B list names? Take a look at THIS fug and tell me you don't agree: http://thesuperficial.com/2009/08/lindsay_lohan_goes_braless_in.php

LOVING that lifetime is posting complete episodes! on saturday, yeah, so i have to wait for my TLo, but *I* only have to watch one 30-second commercial throughout the whole episode!

I'm not fashion-forward at all, and I really loved a lot of these dresses. Not too many were really spectacular or original, but they were, for the most part, very pretty (and looked well made). And a lot of them were to my particular taste, which was nice. And I don't care if it IS safe, that shade of blue that Ra'Mon used was freaking gorgeous. I also LOVED Epperson's goth-y creation.

Oh, and Mr Gunn is in tip-top form, as always. I love that man from the bottom of my heart.

HURRAY PROJECT RUNWAY! HURRAY TLO!

SO glad PR is back, but I was really disappointed by the red carpet looks. It almost seemed like a lot of them were from the same boring collection - where was the color in any of them? A lot of the looks just seemed very blah. Christopher's was not my favorite look - Irina's was, and surprisingly, I really liked Johnny's, though, like a previous poster said - I am already OVER the crying. Yes, we know you are a former meth addict, but as my friend said "Ricky from Season 4 is the resident 'crier,'" so build a bridge and get over it!

I thought Ra'mon deserved the win, his look wasn't 'safe', it was a GOWN and it was bautiful. Oh well, I'm over it.

Totally agree with Mitchell's ruched, um, creation. The judges like to see contestents make the best of bad situations, but he had it easy! All he had to do was undo the shirring and he would have had his extra 6" (yea, good call on the model's weight gain, yer such a man!)

I loved Ari, she kinda reminded me of Nora from S1 at first. Then when she said that she didn't sketch, she quickly turned into yoga queen from S4. And the final look was just too wierd. Hexagons? The jokes can actually write themselves! Soccer ball... Benzo molecules... Last thing a fly sees before getting swatted...

I've got no problems with this. The dress was gorgeous and deserved the win.

But Ms. Chrissy better stock up on the Midol. She's blubbering all over the place.

Cute! I could definitely see it on a younger red carpet starlet. Emma Watson perhaps? Miley Cyrus?

Red purse in the background of the shot of the winner and your accessories comment---any info on that bag? Love it.
