All-Star Uli

We missed the little Mädchen!

Of everyone making their return to the PR sphere, Uli was the one we were most excited about seeing again.

Not just because she's entertaining as hell, but also because we always felt she was robbed out of a win in season 3 and we wanted to see what she would do with another shot.

She must have felt the pressure because the little Fräulein revealed a heretofore unseen bitchy side as the claws came out against, of all people, Sweet P. She seemed to consider her her biggest competition for some bizarre reason. They're both blonde. That's about where the similarities begin and end.

Common sense would dictate that we feature Korto's collection before this one but frankly, we need to get this out of our systems. There was a lot of crack-smokery coming off the judges that night, but what they did to Uli made the least sense of all to us.

To be honest, this was not a favorite of ours.

Not because there's anything wrong with it. In fact, it's perfectly done. The only reason we don't love it comes down to taste. It's just not the kind of thing we respond to.

But it's still very pretty and stylish, with a lot of lovely detailing.

Now THIS, kittens. THIS is GORGEOUS.

Look at that! Because god knows those judges didn't! How freaking beautiful is that? And how wonderful that she decided to showcase a more architectural aesthetic, something we didn't even know she had.

The back was nice too, but let's face it, this is a "walking towards" dress, not a "walking away" one.

It is SO much easier to write about ugly clothes because we're never at a loss for words, so we apologize for being boring and repetitive, but...LOOK AT THAT! How GORGEOUS IS THAT? There isn't one critical thing we can say here.

Everything is stylish and beautiful and impeccably made.

Frankly, and we're ashamed to admit this, we didn't know she had it in her. Don't get us wrong, we've always been big Uli fans and like we said, we loved her Bryant Park collection, but this stuff is miles ahead of where she was 3 years ago.

We don't know what's more stunning; this look taken on its own or this look because it's made out of shit she scavenged from a restaurant.

Obviously, we loved the previous two pieces, but this is by far our favorite look. In fact, it's our favorite look of the night.

It's not just that it's so beautifully made and that you'd never know she made it out of unconventional materials; it's that it's also right on trend and looks like it could have walked down a runway this season.

In fact, if we can use a Heidi point, it's the most expensive-looking piece in her collection.

Nina said, "I see that it's become a more sophisticated collection, but I miss the spirit that you had before," and we had to resist the urge to throw things at our TV. You mean that "spirit" that all you guys criticized her for overdoing the last time? Is that what you're talking about, Nina? What nonsense. As if growth and change are bad things for a designer. Take a look at Diane and Michael's Fall'06 collections and then look at their Fall '09 collections. They weren't doing the exact same things they were doing 3 years ago, so it's pretty egregious that they would try to criticize Uli for that.

The more we think about it, the more the judging comes across completely arbitrary. We've already said that they clearly wanted to give the win to Daniel, no matter what. To expand on that point, we think it's pretty obvious that they wanted to give Sweet P and Chris March a "story" of redemption, so they also were going to be in the top 4 no matter what. We can debate whether Uli's work was better than Chris' but there's no way Sweet P's collection was better than this one.

Daniel grows and changes = WIN!.
Uli grows and changes = FAIL!

Insane.

The fact that she walked off the stage with Santino is unforgivable.

That restaurant materials dress is TO DIE FOR. I would buy it in a heart beat. Uli seems to have gone from tropical bohemian chic to architectural restrained chic. Maybe the judges missed her free-spirit and thought that she was trying to hard to be something she wasn't. I'm just trying to rationalize their decision. Uli WUZ ROBBED!

yea, let's be serious
uli > sweet pea

I was also really upset she wasn't in the top 4. total bias and contradiction. they praised Daniel for "growing" but they took a dump on Uli for growing.

I agree that the second look is incredibly stunning and probably the best RTW dress i've ever seen on PR. I also forgot the closing look was from the restaurant challenge; i thought the first dress was.

Agree on the Sweet P point. Uli def should have stayed on that stage and Sweet P should have walked it out.Must say though, LOVED Chris's first two outfits. Any suggestion on where I can get clothes to recreate those looks?

Yes, yes, YES! I have NO CLUE why this collection wasn't in the top 4. It's absolutely insulting.

The one thing I had to laugh at was the similar dusty rose frippery on both Uli (look #1) and Sweet P's outfits — they looked just like their pink ruffly throw pillows in the Atlas apartments.

And I'm mad that the best (and worst) "restaurant challenge" outfits were completely ignored: Uli's and Chris' were masterful, while Daniel's and Sweet P's were dogs, and the judges only had something to say (briefly) about Chris'. At least they commended Korto's creation.

Sigh. Dissatisfaction.

I second the amen. Personally I thought Uli was going to take it. I know everyone thought Korto should have won, and maybe that is true for them when next to Daniel but I thought Uli was WAY more robbed than Korto! I responded much mroe to Uli's collection than hers and maybe it goes back to a "taste" thing but I don't think Korto should have won her season like she thinks and I don't think she should have won against Daniel. I would have put her 3rd or fourth kind of tied with Chris with Uli winning and Daniel second. I love Korto's accessories but I just have not responded to her Bryant Park collection or this one. But that's just me.

I really was pissed at that "spirit" comment to! If they wanted growth in Daniel they should have recognized the growth in Uli and gotten over the no prints thing. Uli you rule and now I love you even more!

Also, those close-ups are great! Thanks TLo!

Amen #2!

My only dislike about Uli's collection was the treatment of the zippers. I thought they were gaudy. But I covet her restaurant dress! I thought it was better than Korto's, whose dress the judges apparently thought was the third coming (the second being Daniel's red carpet dress).

Absolutely. Had such a hard time believing DVF reacted so positively to Sweet P's collection. I loved seeing so many of the former contestants but the judging really ruined this special for me. It simply was so contrived.

She was my pick for #1 as well.
My top 4 would have been Uli, Korto, Jeffrey, and Chris.

uli's restaurant dress looks so much like a rodarte dress! she was robbed yet again....

I had forgotten how amazing that collection was. That restaurant dress is so amazing. She outdid everyone. I can't believe she wasn't in the top 4, hell, I can't believe she wasn't the winner!

I do think it is interesting that lots of people think she should have been in instead of Sweet P. I liked most of Sweet P's stuff [except that weird Holly Hobby red carpet dress]. But people are acting like their was room in the top 4 for only one blond chick. Korto is the one who didn't belong, if it were up to me.

"We can debate whether Uli's work was better than Chris' but there's no way Sweet P's collection was better than this one."

Nor was Daniel's. A great injustice was done to Korto and Chris, but especially to Uli.

Bottom 4!! - really, judges? Really? A new low for all of you!!

I fell in love with Uli during "All Stars", and fell in love all over again on Friday when I finally saw season 3. Her earlier designs were so cool and hippie-feminine; what she did on All-Stars was gorgeous and totally sophisticated. I mean, who the hell can make a dress like that with crap she grabbed in a restaurant dining room? I want her to make all my clothes.

I could (sort of) live with her not winning, but not even getting into the top 4? Judges, thy drug is crack.

What a travesty! Uli and Chris March had the two best collections, and had they been side by side, I don't know if I could have chosen which to honor. Uli is light years beyond Daniel V in taste level, design and sewing skills. It is a shocking and, frankly, sickening turn of events. Added to what Tim said in his interview about the judging in PR6, I am starting to get a bit nauseated..

I actually liked Uli's collection better than Daniels's. Uli's seemed more polished and sophisticated. Daniels seemed messy to me, except that "raffia" dress. It could be that the way they showed made the difference.
And to class her with Santino?!

I was appalled, too. I mean, that structured-front dress! EE-YOW!

TLo said "but there's no way Sweet P's collection was better than this one."

No, not at all! and I could not figure out how the hell the judges came to that decision. smoking crack makes as much sense as anything.

While Uli's first look didn't especially wow me, it was far, far better than Sweet P's, which had a gaggingly Holly Hobby-like air to it.

And the whole of Uli's collection did have coherence to it that wasn't seen (IMO) with the others (unless one counts tight, shiny & taste-free in Santino's).

I absolutely LOVED Uli's restaurant dress -would love to buy it and am awed that it was made with restaurant materials. If the criteria of "growth" was so central to the win, Uli should have won - no question!

I was far more of a Danny V. fan going into the All-Star competition and expected to see more of the print/flowy type things from Uli. Instead, I'm now totally with Team Uli and think that she was really the one who was robbed in this competition.

at least the judges got it right in booting Ari.....

srq

A fun show but boy was the judging disappointing.

My pick for the win was Uli. Chris was a close second but I would have given it to Uli because her red carpet dress was more fitting of Nicole Kidman. Yeah I know-- Kidman might not be wearing the look-- but Uli's dress was red carpet appropriate for a broader slice of actresses.

(LOVED Sissybear's collection, though).

Korto's stuff is unexciting.

DV's 80's workout clothes were awful. I really don't understand why he won. His red carpet dress was just OK to me. It didn't look well made. Didn't fit the model very well. I was laughing when his collection was on the runway. I just KNEW he would be in last place. Guess I don't know much...

This was the first time I ever felt like the judges had wasted my time.

Thank you! I just was finally able to watch this, and, after picking Uli's collection as my favorite going down the runway, was shocked to see that she didn't even make the top four!

Completely agree on the love for her restaurant look.

I said it before; I'll say it again. Uli was robbed. I think the reason she thought SweetPea was her biggest competition was simply because they used the same fabrics and pallette. Or at least it looked that way when they were at Mood.

The judges were totally on crack for this one.

I really have not commented on any of this until now because I ashamed that I am so confused because none of my opinions seem to line up with TLo or the PR judges. Most of the time I am in 80% agreement with the PR judges and/or TLo.

I loved Daniel V's Season 2 Finale collection. It is my second favorite collection of all time from PR, BUT I HATED HATED HATED his all star challenge collection especially his red carpet dress. I just do not understand all the love for it. I do not even see it as "great work". Actually, I find it almost ulgy.

For myself to wear, I loved Sissy Bear & Uli's collections. I would wear every piece in each of these collections.

I really liked Korto's collection, a great piece of work, but it is not my personal style. I have several friends with figure flaws they always hide and Korto's collection would be perfect for them.

As for Sweet P's collection, each of her dresses would be adorable on my 13 year old niece and on my 17 year old niece. Again, great work, but not my personal style.

The smartest designer of all was Laura Bennett who made the wise deesion to stay out of this rigged scam!

TampaBay

Oh, I'm so glad you guys posted Uli's collection early. It was my favorite of the night (followed closely by Chris's) -- but I thought your screen grabs might show that it wasn't what I remembered. Something to explain why she wasn't included in the top 4.

But no, that second look and the restaurant dress are still GORGEOUS! Also admirable: How calm and professional she remained when her models didn't show. She's the real deal, and I hope she gets a backer to take her line bigger.

Re: Dress 1 - You say nice detailing; I say uncooked bacon strips.

Can't disagree. I liked her restaurant dress best. In fact, since I saw the end of the show before I saw the beginning - I hadn't realized that that one was made from restaurant materials - I just thought it was an awesome use of materials.

I hadn't seen the detail of the 2nd dress on t.v. - awesome.

The judging was awful.

I was annoyed that it wasn't Uli and Korto in the final two, but the idea that Uli wouldn't even be in the top half?! RIDICULOUS! In fact, my Tivo just caught the episode of her season where they made jet-setter outfits. I watched it today, and Nina was ALL OVER Uli for what they wanted from Uli in the all-star episode. Deeply disappointing. Uli got robbed by a cheater the first time around, and by a story line this time.

I loved Uli's dresses, except for the first one, which for some reason screams VAGINA at me. I agree with everyone else - she was robbed from the top 4, yada yada yada.

Definitely better than Sweet P's. I don't get it. Absolutely infuriating producer manipulation.

Again the judges don't take Uli seriously. To me, she was robbed again. Her collection is way superior and better than Daniel's but NinafuckingGarcia was overdose on bitchness and say one nonesense after other to send Uli away.

I hate them! Uli honey, if I were a woman I´d buy every design you create, to me you´re the best.

And today I´m attacking Nina, where is your freaking latina spirit? Bitch, please!

IF the judges were set on giving Daniel the win because, blah blah blah Chloe won blah blah blah Chloe didn't really do much after the win whatever, then Uli deserves the win even more. What had Jeffrey done with his win other than compete in the Sonny Bono look alike contest?

Oh, thank heaven it wasn't just me. I thought Uli's work was gorgeous and I thought she had a chance at winning. Couldn't believe they shrugged her growth as a designer off the way they did.

Sorry I have to disagree with you guys here. Uli's collection is indeed beautiful, but there's also a high end mall-wear feel to it. I personally like them a lot, however this is probably not what the judges were looking for.

I agree. Uli's restaurant dress was my favorite look of the evening, too. It's fantastic. Sweet P's collection looked, in the words of the Gunn, too "happy hands at home."

Okay, this is becoming unbearable. Anyone know where I can watch this online, outside of the US? Episode 1 is up all over the place and Models, but I can't see All-Stars anywhere.

Amen, I couldn't believe Uli wasn't in the top four at least. In my opinion, her collection was the best or the second best, certainly better than the braless wonder Daniel sent down the runway. What a shame she was emiliated with the mess of a collection that was Jeffrey's and Santino's silver body stocking. Insulting, really. How Sweet P's K-mart special ended up in the top four over Uli's is beyond me.

She definitely should have at least been in the top 4. For me, it was between her and Korto for the win. And the more I look at them, the more I think Uli should have won. Like you guys, I don't like the first look that much but the rest is awesome. As much as I like her, Sweet P's collection didn't deserve to be anywhere near that top 4.

I thought this collection was great and that it might win. I was very confused because I thought it better than Seet Peas and Daniels collection.

"Okay, this is becoming unbearable. Anyone know where I can watch this online, outside of the US? Episode 1 is up all over the place and Models, but I can't see All-Stars anywhere."

Or inside the US! They posted the full episode of PR on the Lifetime web site, but not the All-Stars show. Very aggravating!

Uli was fucking ROBBED. This shit is gorgeous.

Dayum! I wish we got to see the extended judging for this episode!

Uli not making at least top 4 was incomprehensible. I can only think the judges wanted to play mind games with her - too many prints, not enough prints, to flowy, too constructed - think of a number between 1 and 100,000. . .

Did anyone else feel like some of the collections were rushed down the runway?? I got just a glimpse of some outfits, like Uli's alternate materials dress. Like we weren't supposed to see how good it was.

_____
Please tell us what mall YOU are shopping at? I'd love to see anything like Uli's collection in any mall, and I've got some great ones near me....

Thank you for speaking the truth. Uli grew just as much as Daniel did and her collection was gorgeous, creative, sophisticated and wearable. Daniel's suicide bomber dress should have cost him the win alone. The judges all sold their souls (or what was left of them) when they not only gave that dress a pass, but gave it praise!

For Uli to not even make it to the top 3 is a slap in the face. Did they give her the bitch edit so we peasants wouldn't riot in the street when she was robbed? You guys called it. Chris (loved) and Sweet Pea (good for her abilities) made it for the redemption story and Korto (loved, but a little plain) was there because they had to at least make it look like it was a competition where they rewarded talent.

I thought Sissy Bear's collection had a great deal of stylish coherence.

TampaBay

Uuuullliiiiiiiiiii!

That is all.

And my next dress will NOT be a Duchess Koors. Take it in the wallet.

Though I have never been an Uli fan, I thought to myself when she showed her collection on All Stars, "Now THERE is the winning collection!! Finally, something other than the dreaded prints!!".
I loved everything she did, but the first dress, which was OK, but her collection was so far and above DV's.
Honestly, it was between Chris and Uli for the win, for me.
I've been ticked off at the judges before, but this time they really blew it. I still keep thinking WTH......

I too couldn't believe Uli was not in the top 4. Sweet P's clothes are not my style, but I think she might have been put in because they had a more youthful appeal. It almost seems the judges always go with "youthful" instead of "sophisticated."

Uli's collection was very cohesive and her restaurant dress was incredible. The judges must have been dozing with Chris when Uli's models came down the runway because they obviously did't really see it.

Polly Glot

PS - Is Chris March o.k.? His constant need for sleep was a little disconcerting. I was afraid he wasn't going to finish.

THANK YOU for this, Boychicks (as my Eastern European grandmother would say). I ranted aplenty in my comments in your earlier All-Star blog regarding just this issue so all I will say now is - LIKE THEY SAID! How Uli did not WIN the All-Star competition much less be relegated to the BOTTOM 4 is one pop culture mystery I will never hope to solve. Her collection was beyond fabulous and into serious gorgeous; and as much as I loved Korto's restaurant dress (and I did!), Uli's was beyond compare. The "judges" had a hard-on (sorry) for DV from the get-go; nothing as pesky as a superior collection was going to stand in their way! ARRRGGH! To paraphrase Nina, I question the JUDGE'S taste level AND their Point of View! Okay, now I need to go take a Pepcid.

"Tlo said: She seemed to consider her her biggest competition for some bizarre reason. They're both blonde. That's about where the similarities begin and end."

HEL-LO!

What was funniest though was that SweetP actually compared herself to Uli. As IF! Not in her wildest dreams.

As for those stories of redemption, at least Chris earned it. But SweetP, WTF? Tim had it right: SweetP's stuff all looks like it is home sewn, and at a VERY basic level.

And Uli, there is no way she didn't deserve to be top 2 (at least). And there is also no way I would believe that there wasn't a storyline going in to the show. SweetP was always pushed along (in her season) to give middleaged housewives someone to identify with. There is no way she deserved to to get as far as she did in the competition, and no way she deserved to be called an 'allstar'. And no way her brothel lampshade collection should have rated higher than Uli's STUNNING collection.

The judging was a JOKE.

--GothamTomato

...And I'd bet money that DVF ran into the back and vomited after giving SweetP those unwarranted compliments (that, I'd also bet money, she was instructed to make).

--GothamTomato

The second dress was my favorite of the evening. Every look she sent out that evening could be runway ready.

She purposely forwent the colors in order to show off her "mad" construction skills. And that was something we didn't see from her in the previous season. It was a total surprise. Impeccably done. And I'm left to wonder what sort of mickey the producers slipped to Nina.

In my top four, she was in and Daniel was out. I was just so shocked by Sweet P's construction and cohesiveness that she had to be an in. I expected more from Daniel and he disappointed me.

The judging was a JOKE.

--GothamTomato

Yes, it is. I get far more irrated with them, than the various contestants.
They (the judges) really do have the power to make a huge difference in these young (or whatever) designers careers. Are they really that far removed by their own success that they don't care and it is just a big joke to them? It makes me hate them a little bit. I am very disappointed for Diane "playing the game".

I like 100% agree with everything. Uli should have won season 3 and was definitely at least top 3 for the all-star challenge. The first dress was not great, had kind of a raw bacon look, but everything else was completely fabulous stuff that any woman (myself included) would love to wear. They all manage to look young but sophisticated, something Sweet P only pulled off with 2 looks. (Please talk about how hideous her restaurant look was, I was so ready to burn that "dress".)

You guys are right, it did seem a tad forced that Sweet P and Chris made it to the finals, but, in any event, her restaurant dress was so much better than what any of the finalists produced that night.

Although, I will be a bitch and say I though the outfits she made last night did hearken back to her BP collection, what with the nude colors, metallics, and that one necklace made of teeth (or tooth-shaped stones).

Thank you again.

I was so upset with how things went with the All Stars. I thought I was missing something. Look, I love Daniel. But I've always felt he was somewhat overhyped.

But I agree. When the judges went off on Uli about the changes in her styles, saying she had matured but they weren't for it, I nearly threw something! You like the sophistication, but you miss the stuff you used to criticize her for?! BULL.

Ugh. All-Stars. So angry.

Uli should have had it. That collection is gorgeous, especially considering the time constraints and limitations.

OK somebody who reads this blog knows somebody who knows somebody. Spill it... what happened with the judging on PR All Stars.

I actually stopped watching after they let Uli go off stage. And why they are so in love with Daniel has not enough to do with his clothes...so bad judges. really bad judges.

I absolutely adored Uli's colelction far more then Daniel's

Tampa Bay said "I thought Sissy Bear's collection had a great deal of stylish coherence."

TampaBay,

You are right and I am wrong! mea culpa!! And I think I'd actually said something about that elsewhere....I was impressed with the way SB's collection worked - the use of the one fabric was bold & daring, too, particularly with the red carpet look.

need to stop spitting tacks before i post, methinks.... or brew up some more caffeine....

The pictures help show how GORGEOUS these pieces were.

Claws out? Unpleasant surprise.

No "spirit"? Baffling.

The restaraunt materials dress looked like the Rodarte sisters stopped using glitter duct tape and tin foil as fashion materials and got jobs at Oscar De La Renta. Pure fabulous.

But without these screencaps, impossible to see. Was that camera work some The Fashion Show bullshit or what?

This comment has been removed by the author.

This is my theory. I think Sweet P made it to the Top 4 on the merits. The only DV Heidi, Michael and Nina love more than Vosovic is von Furstenburg and for whatever reason she loved Sweet P's collection. This is not the first time that she has been a spoiler and quite franky that is why I like it when she and Fern Mallis are PR judges. My guess is that she was not wowed by Daniel's collection, her praise was directed at his red carpet dress, not his collection. Kors, Nina and the man behind the curtain, Tim Gunn seem to be the Dan Fans / Fanatics. I think the legit Final 4 were Chris, Korto, Sweet P, and either Uli or Jeffrey.

Fuck. and Yes. total utter bullshit that she wasn't at LEAST part of the top looks if not the winner. And on a side note, this is my problem with this show in general, they seem to have predestined favorites. I don't know how else to explain it.

THANK YOU.

Jesus CHRIST, the moment they named her "bottom four", I was done with the episode. Seriously? SWEET P over her? That is some mighty-fine crack they be smokin'.

OMG...I didn't know that you have to be BLIND to be a PR Judge...

Seriously, we should like set up a commemorative fund for Uli Herzner. No offense, SweetPea or DV, but I think their collection was "not well executed...AT ALL".

P.S I am playing "Doggy Fun" (Uli's Finale Song) for the whole day.

I did not see what the judges saw, and this is a problem. The producers give the audience a 30 second view of each design. The designer could show crap and the judges call it "amazingly fertile design" or vice versa. I wouldn't know.

BUT...Wasn't the restaurant dress one of the three tiered judging elements? Wasn't the restaurant dress supposed to be 75% restaurant materials? Wasn't the dress supposed to be innovative? Was it by implication supposed to be wearable?

I was surprised that during the judging Uli's restaurant dress was not mentioned when it looked innovative and amazing to my eyes. Then the judges gave Daniel's restaurant bomber dress a pass. It seemed he made a dress out of the material at hand from his collection and added a bunch of restaurant material-made accessories over it, unlike most of the other competitors who used the materials in the fabric of the design.

I watched the whole thing twice to make sure I was not in an alternative universe. Thanks for validating what I saw.

Totally robbed, obviously.

IMO, this was the best collection by a long country mile.

I think they wanted the win to be a platform for a designer and they love DV.

I suspect that, for some reason, they lack confidence in Uli's ability to move things forward career wise (and thereby enhance the PR brand), so they overlook the clothes. She really should have won her cycle too.

Right? And wasn't there a point when SweetP's stuff was on the runway when it looked like DVF was actually laughing behind her card? I think that's designer that was up when she was doing that.

--GothamTomato

100% agreement here. There's no way to see this other than that Uli got completely and utterly ripped off. One could argue over whether she should have won (though I think she should have by a country mile) but absolutely NO WAY in hell should she have been dumped right away along with Jeffrey, Mychael and Santino.

You rock, Uli! Keep making beautiful clothes.

Small nitpick on the second dress: the front was gorgeous, but that piece of trim on the back bothered me. It reminded me (and it pains me to say this) of something Lupe would stick on.

But I covet Uli's gorgeous collection, and I was also impressed by how gracious and composed she was while the judges were picking on her. She could have easily put on her bitchface about their "Where are your PRINTS?" nonsense, but she took the high road.

This preposterous judging won't hurt her career at all.

Robbed! That restaurant dress is TO. DIE.

As usual TLo, you were spot on. I was flabbergasted Uli didn't win, or at least wasn't up there with Korto. I loved both their restaurant dresses!

You know, I love that chica Nina but she made me so mad. What the hell was she talking about?? Uli's collection is beautiful!!

Come on folks, Sweet P's stuff was quite pretty and there is a market for it. I thought her red carpet dress was lovely and Nicole Kidman would have looked very feminine in it.
That being said Sweet P seems to have a one note of sweet feminine designs whereas Uli did show us something new from her that was just divine....and her models did not look like zombies.
My top 4 would have been: Uli, Sweet P, Chris and Koyto....

I just did not get what the judges saw in Daniel's group...even his red carpet dress.

BULLSHIT!!! THAT WAS PURE BULLSHIT AND WE ALL KNOW IT!

Boys, I just read your post on your Facebook page about Lifetime posting full episodes and when I read the part "America! Is crazy country, ja?" I almost fell out of my chair laughing. How apropos! One of your best posts.

sweet p's a nice lady & all, but give me a goddamned break! there is no chance in hell that her collection deserved to be ahead of uli's!

when this came out, i thought for sure it was the winner. if anything, 2nd to korto's. the judges are freaking idiots. poor girl was robbed again. only this time they kicked her in the balls for even trying. awful. truly awful.

CanIGetYouAnything?

Uli was robbed, plain and simple.

What you said, TLo. Times a bajillion.

THANK YOU! i thought i was going crazy. all my friends were like what the hell?

Not crazy about the first look, but everything else is drop dead gorgeous. I would rock that restaurant number.

I was so disappointed. I did like Sweet P's and Chris' collections but Uli's was far better.

I kinda like that, it's very in right now.

Couldn't agree more. and while I liked Chris's collection, I really don't believe Sweetpea's was top 4 worthy

Uli's collection was my favorite by far. And am I crazy or is her restaurant dress a tiny bit reminiscent of Jay's work from season 1?

TLo said: ...we think it's pretty obvious that they wanted to give Sweet P and Chris March a "story" of redemption, so they also were going to be in the top 4 no matter what. We can debate whether Uli's work was better than Chris' but there's no way Sweet P's collection was better than this one.

My thoughts EXACTLY.

Have any of the judges commented publicly about the All-Star Travesty now that it has aired?

Uli should have been in the final four. The judges have lost my respect totally after this.

EspeciallyGay

Uli was robbed. again. The judges don't like her.

I just couldn't believe Uli did not make the final four. The judges went on and on during season 3 about her using too much print, they wanted to see something different blah blah blah and now she gives them something unexpected, intricate, and fabulous those bitches say they want some print???? WTF??????

Thank you so much for agreeing with my every thought and opinion regarding the Uli (and for that matter...give the win to Daniel no matter what) issue. The validation does wonders for my skin.

Right? And wasn't there a point when SweetP's stuff was on the runway when it looked like DVF was actually laughing behind her card? I think that's designer that was up when she was doing that.<-----quote

LiLo was falling off her chair - almost literally ROTFL.

LifeTimeForHomos

I don't get it. We expect more from you, more print, spirit or whatever ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH, NINA! I want to know WHY Uli did not deserve to be final four. And this time, NO BULLSHIT!

I am still appalled about what they said to Uli. Nina had a conniption fit when Uli did the multi-print jet setter dress. Complete and utter nonsense. "Arbitrary" is the perfect word to describe the judging process!

When you get to it, can you please mention how horribly LITERAL Sweet P's flower pot dress was (the one that DVF orgasmed over)?? Talk about a float in a parade, that one should be next to a picture of it on Wikipedia! And SP's red carpet dress was so horribly plain, it left me thinking Wendy Pepper stepped in and sewed it for her and then slapped that awful bow on it.
Uli and SP might've had the same color scheme, but in SP's collection it came off as washed out and boring; whereas the muted colors in Uli's really drew attention to the details since there was no color to distract from it.

Uli, I would wear any and all of your clothes, especially the striking architectural piece. :)

Yes, I thought Uli was robbed. She really had a beautiful collection and should have been the winner. She was robbed again.

Poor Uli, I really felt bad for her, so not fair. I thought she was robbed of a final four placing.

Loved Uli's collection! Her collection was solid and diverse as well as cohesive. That crap Daniel sent down the runway didn't deserve a win.

i completely agree. when i was watching the show i was wondering the whole time what you two would think about uli's collection since it was so unexpected. not a single flowy print dress. and it was ridiculous how the judges put her in the bottom. yet if she had done what everyone expected and showed up with a bunch of flowy print dresses, the judges would have ripped her a new one and complained about how she hadnt matured.

i LOVE her and i LOVE her collection. i would wear every single dress/garment she has ever made on the show. seeing these close ups has only made me love these garments even more (especially that restaurant one... how do you make gorgeousness like that out of materials from a restaurant!!!!!???????AMAZING!).

she managed to mature in her designs by expanding her vocabulary in design, yet still keep that "uli-ness" her fans know and love. now THAT is talent

i totally agree!!!
my jaw dropped when they announced Uil is at bottom 4.
they did owe Daniel a winner title, but Uil is clearly a winner in the All Star challenge

For me, Uli's collection was the clear winner with Chris a close second. And I'm glad that seeing the screen caps just confirms it for me. This collection was sophisticated, elegant, cohesive, innovative and on trend while still being original and impeccably executed. And oh yeah, she clearly (along with Chris) demonstrated the most growth.

This actually makes me angry. It was such obvious bullshit. It was disgraceful to send her off with Santino and Jeffrey. The only way to register disappointment is to stop watching the show and I'm not really ready to do that yet but a couple more travesties like this and I'm out.

Dear Uli, I hope you find a backer and go on to have the fabulous career you deserve.

Other than Uli, the other clear winners are the ones who turned down an appearance on this POS. Good thinking.

Uli, if you are reading this, I truly thought your collection was amazing.

Totally agree. Uli and Chris were my top two, and I'd die to wear Uli's restaurant dress.

I keep staring at that restaurant dress (thank you for the close-ups, by the way, boys). It is so beautiful. That is real creativity taking into consideration what they had to work with and how much time they were given.

"Lifetime posted the All-Star Challenge episode too. Click here."

Thank you thank you thank you TLo! I'll pop over and watch (after throwing some coin in your tip jar...you guys are so awesome) but may have to skip the judging part from what I've read here. Blood pressure to be concerned about, and all.

Uli, my dear, you were robbed. Laura Bennett was right, why even bother?

Uli was getting so much screen time and her collection was so fabulous, I was sure she'd win. And then she's not even in the top 4. Did the state of Florida handle the tabulation of the scores or something?

If I'd been judging, I'd have put Uli first, Korto second, Chris third and I wouldn't have had a fourth. If they'd insisted I have a fourth, I'd have chosen Sweet P but her collection wasn't a contender. Her restaurant dress looked like something from a bad Broadway musical while Uli's was sublime.

F the judges. We all know who deserved the win. Or should I say "winS".

Uli, I love you (but leave the bitchery to Kenley, Wendy, Zuleima, and Korto). You are fabulous and I would love to have ANY of those pieces.

Judges.... YOU SUCK!

Does anyone know what her materials were? (Was she lloking for leather at some point?)
Not a fan of the first one, but in close up the second was fabulous and the third was very very nice.
But which one was her Red Carpet look?

Didn't Sweet Pea and Uli compare themselves because of the colors and materials. And they both used soft colors.

One little complaint for the third look would be that there was some side (under)breast cleavage going on. It might be a problem for women with breasts larger than the model. (It is quite a lovely outfit though.)

Sus wrote that Sweet Pea's restaurant challenge was one of the worst - and I really have to disagree. I thought it was cute and charming.

Yes Uli's was gorgeous - in the close up, from further away I thought it was just okay.

Was Uli 2nd in her season also - KORTO? How do you think she felt? Did she react like Korto, or were there edits?

I'm just here to call shenanigans on that. Uli. was. robbed.

Right on. Here's what I think: the judges have nice little niches for each of these guys: Daniel is "sportswear", Sweet P. is "pretty ruffles", Chris is "Costume." And they measured everyone's "growth" from that. Uli was id'd as "resort" early on, and even though her final collection was exceptional, Fern Mallis put her in that same corner. this was not resort, it was simply perfect and beautiful.

And therein lies the problem. She went outside the tag in a big way, and they didn't know what to do with it. Daniel V. somehow "grew" in a sportswear way and they loved it. Go figure.

You said it all, guys.

Uli was robbed yet again.

~Sewjourner

She should have won and by a long shot. When they sent her off stage, I could have just turned the TV off. Her clothes were gorgeous. I loved the old Uli. I love the new Uli. I love Uli. She was completely robbed.

I was flabbergasted by their critique of Uli, especially when they turned around and lauded Daniel for the changes he'd made since his PR appearance. I thought Uli's collection was amazing, and that Sweet P should have been in the bottom 4 instead.

The restaurant dress? Amazing. I was really impressed with her collection, even the piece you guys didn't like so much. It was also my least favorite, but it was so interesting and made with such skill.

Uli was robbed, big-time.

"Uli, we're glad you've grown as a designer. Too bad we haven't grown as judges. You're out."

I think Uli should've won!!!

Couldn't agree more that this collection was WAY better than Sweet P's. I'm still scratching my head about the whole All Star thing and wondering if it was all planned.

I hope Uli is reading this. Her collection was PHENOMENAL and deserved to win. These are some of the most beautiful dresses I've seen in any of the PR shows, let alone this episode.

-E

She went outside the tag in a big way, and they didn't know what to do with it. Daniel V. somehow "grew" in a sportswear way and they loved it.

What rundeep@7:10pm said. Word. Yes, Daniel V showed increased "confidence," however that translates into clothes, but Uli and Chris, for my money, showed true "growth."

Initially, I agreed with TLo and all of the posters who feel that Uli clearly got robbed. But on closer inspection of the dresses, they don't put her over the top.

I didn't like the apricot-colored sheer dress at all. It had lots of work in it, but it didn't add up to a whole lot of look. The top didn't flatter the boobs at all. And the rest looked cheap (the ruffles were reminiscent of the "dress up" dresses I used to see at Sears and Bradlees). I think this dress cost Uli a spot in the top four.

The second look, for all its drama and gorgeous front, had a weird fabric snake running down the back that stopped right in the middle of one butt cheek. I thought that feature was ugly and unflattering.

I did love the restaurant dress, but but didn't think it exceeded Daniel V's red carpet dress as most posters seem to.

To me, this collection didn't really rate a berth in the top four, although it was just a hair away.

So, surprisingly, I agree with the judges.

I agree but I guess the judges were basing their decision on the fact that it was so different from what they expected from Uli, they felt they couldn't recognize her work like they did with Sweet P's collection. Total BS considering they were looking for growth.

Sing it, sisters! Uli should have definitely replaced Sweet P in the top 4. And I could even be convinced she should have won. But I still think I lean more towards Korto's collection.

Absolutely!!! Uli was MILES ahead of Sweet Pea in taste and construction. Please!! The only good look of Sweet Pea was the leather dress.

Now, was Uli better than Chris? I don't think so, but I do think she was better than Korto. And MILES ahead of Daniel with his skanky bike riding wear. I am glad the judges put the crack pipe down for the regular season, which I almost didn't watch!

Now we are in complete agreement.

I love Uli's restaurant dress so much, I want to touch and feel it and try to figure out what it's made of. She completely transformed the materials. It was fantastic and not even discussed? What's up with that?

As soon as I saw Uli's collection I thought no one is going to touch that. The clothes were one more beautiful than the next.

I'm shocked that Daniel won. This does not bide well for the judging this season.

potty mouth princess

You ladies nailed it. I had every single one of those thoughts and when I re-watched the DVR and was able to pause and really study her stuff, it was GORGEOUS!!! I love that she worked with textures to tell her color story. Unfortunately, as has been said a zillion times before, Uli was damned if she did and damned if she didn't.
To a certain degree, so was Korto, since her original work was freshest in the judges' minds, but Uli not even making the top 4, when Daniel sends a suicide bomber down the runway and SweetP a lampshade and crap with ruffles, something's not right.

THANK YOU!

God that pissed me off. I wanted to pull Nina's hair. Uli was so robbed and I feel so bad for her. I actually didn't like Daniel's collection all that much although I get where he's coming from. It was a little too Robert Palmer for me. Korto and Uli should have been the final two.

Why does everyone love Daniel so much? He's nice and all but I don't get it.

Thank goodness you liked Uli's collection as much as I did. I thought I was in some bizzaro universe when she was in the bottom three.

I think both Uli and Korto are amazing designers and I cant understand why they don't have backers. Anyone know?

I was definitely rooting for Uli! What she turned out was beautiful and done well. It showed growth and was what women want to wear! I believe she and Korto should've been in the top 2 slots.

1.Korto, 2. Uli, 3. Chris,4.Daniel

the judging really ticked me off!

Did anyone else ontice that the pink ruffled pillow Uli was lying on in her bed resembled in tone and ruffles the pink dress?

i'm not dorothy gale

"Don't bore Nina!" Tim counseled Uli back when. Yet Nina apparently hates an element of surprise.

Thank you for expressing what so much of us felt. The rage and disbelief was enormous over Uli's loss; the gorgeous closeups of her work make it easier to believe that some kind of fix was in.

Thank you, TLo, for so succinctly expressing my feelings! Especially after seeing your screen shots, I feel Uli was robbed.

I loved Daniel V's prior collections, but HATED his PR-WAS collection. What's so "on trend" about skin-tight nylon and spandex? A skanky wench by any other name would smell just as foul . . .

Both Uli and Korto did so much more -- in terms of both design and execution. What a shame to think this show went to the judges' "pet" -- and not to either of the girls who worked their asses off. Grrrrr.

If the judges want a redemption story why do they bother judging at all!! Why have the designers go to the trouble of actually making the clothes at all!!! Why did we watch?!!!

So how would the judging have turned out if the judges had seen the clothes without knowing who had designed them? If they judged the clothes strictly on the design and execution, styling, cohesion of the collection, innovation - and NOT as it seems on the back story, personality, history of the designer. AAAAArgh.

Uli or Chris should have won this. Daniels zombie styling was so off putting. ghastly.

Everything Uli did was so well constructed, beautiful. We were all dumbfounded that she didn't even make it into the top 4.

I was absolutely shocked that Uli wasn't in the Top 4. The fact that they put Chris March's collection before hers just boggles my mind.

I love Chris March, he's a hoot. But two of his four looks were almost exactly the same, and he used the same fabric for 3 looks. His entire collection lacked variety. Again, love him, think he's got talent -- but Uli's collection was something else.

The only reason I can think of for the judges giving Daniel the win is that they thought Nicole Kidman would like his red-carpet look. I mean, the rest of his collection was fairly boring and his restaurant challenge look was fairly inane, imho.

Uli's second dress is one of my favorite-ever PR looks. She did an amazing collection and the fact that they hammered her for not doing her same old flowing-prints song and dance -- well, it's just a ridiculous turn of events.

I feel terrible for Uli. She should have won. As others have said, her being lumped in with Santino's hoochie-mama collection is a crime against fashion.

Word. I was stunned when Uli was sent off with Jeffrey and Santino.
Aside from her first look, her other three looks were very strong, beautifully done, and showed another side of Uli, and definitely demonstrated that she can do more than gorgeous prints and resort wear.

Uli definitely deserved at least a top four placement, more so than Sweet Pea. I couldn't believe the love for some of the pieces Sweet Pea sent down the runway.

I've lost a lot of respect for Nina, et al after this little sham of a competition.

I am still steaming over this outcome. As we were watching that night and posting in the lounge, everyone kept saying that Uli was the favorite for the win. There were different opinions on who else was in contention, some thinking Korto and some going with Chris, but it was jaw-dropping to the floor shock when Uli was not in the top 4.

As Gotham Tomato said, "As for those stories of redemption, at least Chris earned it.

But come on, Gotham, why do you think middleaged housewives would identify with a grossly tattooed biker chick? Because her name was Sweet Pea? Good grief! Her appearance was so at odds with her clothes that I found it disconcerting.

I also thought Uli was robbed of her original season win even more than Korto, and I am starting to wonder about some geographic in-crowd snobbery. Daniel was definitely part of the New York City in crowd, and had stayed in that group since his appearance on PR. The judges always seemed dismissive of Uli's "Miami Beach resort wear vibe". Of course, Korto wasn't part of that NYC crowd either. Yes, I know the winners have come from other places, but I definitely think they had a prejudice against Uli for some reason, and this is all I can think of. Our oh so cosmopolitan judges think NYC is not only the epicenter of the fashion world, but so superior to everywhere else, I'm afraid.

And I have serious issues with the show's treatment of Uli in general. First of all her models didn't show up for the fitting when they were supposed to, and then one of them didn't even show up for the show. WTF? I thought at the time that was a serious handicap, but she didn't really turn a hair, and came through anyway. Then, I didn't even realize how totally gorgeous her looks were until I saw the stills on this site. I knew they were beautiful, but WOW! That second dress is to die for, the third look is so elegant and gorgeous, the first look is beautifully designed and executed, and the restaurant challenge was unbelievable. How much work went into THAT one, and how gorgeous was it? But the tape of the show didn't show that very well, IMHO.

I thought Uli and Korto were the contenders, with Chris as a close runner-up. Sweet Pea should have been gone in the first cut, and Danny should have been fourth. In the past, I could often see what the designers were saying, even when I disagreed with them most vehemently, but this time they were totally from outer space. My only consolation was the early aufing of Jeffrey and Santino.

I am so glad that I am not the only one who almost died of shock after seeing Uli dismissed in the bottom four! When I saw her collection I said to my husband that she was in the top three! No question! I still can't believe it! Maybe she didn't deserve the win (though she was my favorite) but she didn't deserve the bottom four!

Thank you! I liked Uli's collection the best by far in her season, and her mini-collection best in this competition as well. I also loved Chris' and Korto's collections as well. As much as I liked Daniel, his collection left me cold. I could not understand how the judges could criticize Uli for not doing the very thing they bitched about her doing in her season! I feel better--I thought maybe I was going nuts after the judging.

This is why I love you two -- because I thought the exact same thing last night. In fact, it upset me so much, it ruined my mood going into the new season. Even though the first dress wasn't quite as stunning, it was still distinctly Uli. It still flowed and had that Uli whimsy even if it was done in beige. Perfect transition from what the judges would have seen her do on the show to what she showed them during the challenge.

Thank you dears, Uli got royally screwed and some producers will be burning in reality tv hell for a very long time. Loved everything except the 1st look which I was merely in "like" with...I do wish she had more color, I don't respond as well to neutrals but these pieces were impossible to ignore. Restaurant dress was GORGE and could have easily been the red carpet dress. In fact, can I have it and wear it to my imaginary red carpet event?

I glad to find out I am not crazy in my opinions regarding Uli and Sweet Pea. I don't know a whole lot but wow, choosing Sweet Pea over Uli - choosing anything else over Uli - was a shock to me.

Also, did anyone else notice that Chris cinched his looks with belts and therefore didn't have to fit his outfits to the models quite as well as Uli's? Neither did Sweet Pea for that matter.

I'll never understand this one.

Seriously, Uli was robbed twice! I was sure she was going to win this and she didn't even make the top four? I don't get it. That restaurant look was my favorite of the night, too.

When a designer is acknowledged to be not as talented as the others it seems like that arouses a lot of hatred for them in the audience-- particularly if that designer makes it farther in the competition than others who seem more deserving. But we have to remember that it's not their fault that that happens. All they're trying to do is the best they can-- they can't control the judges' decisions. I see this happen over and over again, with every season of every competitive reality show. If you want to resent anyone for the disparity in judging, then resent the judges, because they're the ones at fault.

I didn't understand it either - this was absolutely my number 1 pick, with Korto a close second. There is just no logic to this, and I hope Uli is reading these comments and can take some kind of consolation from the fact that most of us loved her collection way more.

Word.

This collection should have been a contender for the WIN, not an early send-off. What a bunch of horse poo.
This has to be one of the biggest WTF judging moments in PR history.

I guess that I just don't "get" DV's aesthetic. I thought his stuff was okay but too contrived and unnecessarily complicated to do more than perhaps get him in the top four, the execrable suicide bomber/change maker/life vest restaurant design excepted, which deserved a swift auf.

I LOVED Chris's first two looks and would definitely buy and wear them. A modern Claire McCardell indeed. I also liked Uli and Korto's collections.

I love SweetPea but her things, while having a market, were too fussy girly for my tastes.

Very weird judging.

Man. After I saw the show I thought Uli got robbed. After seeing these screencaps, I KNOW it. Her collection was VASTLY SUPERIOR IN EVERY CONCEIVABLE WAY to Daniel's bouncing boobie sling. He didn't belong in the top 4. She deserved the win. It should have been her and Chris March in at the end.

I absolutely LOVED Uli's collection. It was by far the most stylish, perfectly executed, polished, modern.... She is the winner for me.

Daniel's bouncing boobie sling *SNORT*
Thanks, Fnarf!

It's really interesting to see the photos on the blog versus the runway show as one gets a far better sense of the outfit from the photos. After the runway show I really felt Uli would win but after seeing the photos I have a better sense of why she didn't. Her second dress and her restaurant dress are incredibly good. I thought when I saw the latter come down the runway that she had it in the bag just because of that dress, which I think was truly stunning and one of the best outfits of the evening. However, I really don't think her runway dress is really a runway dress and I suspect that's what did her in (along with the ruffly first one that isn't all that great). Regardless, she certainly deserved to be in the top 4 as her collection was bounds above Sweet Pea's and probably at least on par with Korto's. Actually, I think this was probably a pretty difficult competition to judge. Despite his flawed (and let's face it, it was very flawed) restaurant dress, I think Daniel's collection was probably the most cohesive. I'm anxious to see the close-ups of the others' outfits as my opinion of the placements is changing as I see more detail. I think I'm going to reserve final judgment on the collections until I see additional detail.

YES. Totally agree. How Sweet Pea was up there instead of Uli is baffling.

The judging for this one was ridiculous. It honestly makes me doubt them and their integrity, which I've never done before. It kind of puts a sour note on the whole thing.

Soooo glad you lovelies felt the way I did...looking at the lines it seemed like Uli was a shoe in for at least the top 4! She seemed so devastated, I was like "honey where you are at in your design aesthetic is STUNNING don't let those judges bully you because they miss them some prints"...i mean honestly biggest oversight of the judging all night!

I actually agreed with the judges. The only cohesive part of the collection was the color and the fact that it all looked so unusually heavy. You could practically feel the first two dresses groaning under the weight of those ugly ruffles.

It looked as if she had watched every season finale in a big marathon and copied (poorly) the best of Christian Siriano, in her first dress, and Leanne in her second.

It was just all so uninspiring and to be honest reminded me of a student collection. As if she wanted to use as many cool construction techniques as possible, just to show she could. Regardless of whether it served the overall collection or not.

Soooo glad you lovelies felt the way I did...looking at the lines it seemed like Uli was a shoe in for at least the top 4! Uli was robbed! I was so shocked at how they just dismissed her collection. I thought she had the strongest collection by far, especially the restaurant dress.

I forgot how beautiful that collection was. That restaurant dress was to die for, not to mention that structured front dress.

Travesty. Just a travesty. I'm still shaking my head over the whole thing.

I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who thought Uli had a beautiful collection. When I saw it, I thought for sure she'd be in the top somewhere.. but to be at the bottom? Really?

Her restaurant dress was just.. wow. Still can't believe the lack of reaction (that we were shown, at least) about it.

Don't understand the DV collection, the suicide bomber dress was so.. I can't even describe. Can't believe all the justifications that were said, like how witty it was. Um. What?

It's a shame that Uli didnt get the praise she deserved. Her fabrics are put together and really attractive.

I thought there was one tiny negative: the first dress. From a distance it's pretty, but up close it's a bit limp with frayed edges, and the overall color effect reminds me slightly of faded curtains.

The middle two looks are gorgeous, and I covet the restaurant dress - rich texture, beautiful!
I also loved seeing her diverse choices in models (vis-a-vis D.V., who picked the type of models typically seen in an upscale label show...)

--Anon1

Uli's and Korto's restaurant looks were probably MY two faves of the show, I can't believe one of them did not win the All-Star!

I am really feeling bitter and disgusted with this whole travesty. I agree with whoever said that they are questioning the judges' integrity. I can't understand why they had to humiliate poor Uli by putting her down there with Santino and Jeffrey.

After I heard this result, I cared a whole lot less about this season of PR.

The found materials dress looks like a rodarte piece in the same way that Kenley's wedding dress looked like the McQueen dress. In other words, it is perhaps a bit umm conscious? But I will say she's on the right track in her decision to incorporate more details and workmanship. I honestly thought her floaty earlier work was more about limited ability than minialism.

You said it, boys. Absolutely.

Just wanted to add my voice to those who thought Uli should have won. My projected order:
1.Uli 2.Korto 3.Chris 4.Daniel

I do hope she gets something (backers, etc.) out of this appearance.

I can't believe I'm about to disagree with Tom & Lorenzo (I thought Jillian had the best collection Season 4 also!)...but Uli deserved to be on the bottom. Frankly, Mychael, Santino, and Jeffrey didn't live up to their past work, but Uli lost something during this collection.

I can understand what they said about her losing some of her spirit. I think her "evolution" is great, but in her wanting to do what she thought the judges would want (to be more Christian Siriano-ish), it became so analytical, I thought her collection was incredibly unemotional and lacked confidence (even though it was far more successful than the other designers on the bottom).

For my two cents, Daniel Vosovic deserved the win. Clean, Confident, Cohesive, and I loved the first and last pieces.

PS! Uli deserved to win Season 3 (and i LOVED some of Jeffrey's pieces that finale).

Brie said:

-----------
I kind of understand why SweetP was there. Her collection was feminine and actually, I admit that I would wear each look except for the restaurant look.
What I DON'T understand is how DV was in the final four....when those messes went down the runway, I thought, "Blech, this guy threw that crap together...AUF!".
Should have been Chris, Uli, Korto and Sweet P in the final four. IMHO, DV's collection was even worse than Santino's or Jeffreys!
Especially the suicide bomber outfit. That should have qualified him for an automatic last place. I say, "TILT" to the judges. Worst judging ever, I'm STILL miffed.

can you say H Y P O C R I T E? Yeah, judges -- YOU! This was by far the best collection of the bunch. I LOVED the sculptural details on the 2nd dress, and all of the beautiful lines of the 3rd. The restaurant dress was amazing. The judges' comments made no sense. Wasn't it the duchess who said in praise of Sweet p's that "I knew whose collection it was as soon as it came down the runway". I guess this is what they were looking for, and of course Uli didn't deliver that. The judges commented that it just didn't seem to be "you". Instead she showed tremendous growth and took their critisizm from S3 and gave them something completely different that showed incredible talent and construction skills...

Yet Daniel won for a boring collection that showed so much "growth" (and a suicide bomber vest)... I like Danny V - he seems like a really likable guy, but i don't think his collection could hold a candle to Uli's. His did not have nearly the sophistication. I also agree with the poster who pointed out that DV's win seemed to be pre-ordained as a means of giving him the win he should have had in S2, but that Uli was equally deserving of that after losing to ALP in S3.

Both were robbed in their respective seasons; Uli was robbed in this "ALL-Star" show. what a disappointment it was!

UNBELIEVABLE!!! So, okay I was totally spoiled for this because I'd been reading the blog for days before I watched the episode. And yet, I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE Uli was in the bottom four instead of Daniel. And then DANIEL WON!!! On what world?!?! That black fabric he chose was so cheap and tacky, and looked awful with the blue. Even the red carpet dress wasn't that great.

...and whatever credit he got for the red carpet dress should have been taken away a thousand fold for that hideous suicide-bomber restaurant dress. Did the judges not SEE that dress? UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

I have looked at the suicide bomber outfit several times. All DV needed to do was shorten the "bomber waist wrap" about 3 inches to make it into a killer extra wide belt and the look would have been OK.

The judges wants just one german girl on the panel ... and its Heidi.

XD

Heidi, how do you say "robbed" in German?

"The judges considered both their scores and input from the Producers and Lifetime Television in reaching their elimination."

Guess that says it all.

I was like, fine, don't give it to her, give it to your boy toy, but not even final four?

I tend to agree with you on the shortening of the "pipe bombs", however, he didn't do it, which leads me to think his judgement isn't quite right, like when he designed those awful purses for his Bryant Park collection.

Yes it does. They looked at how successful (at least in the eyes of the media) Christian Siriano became - a young, talented designer - and decided to give it to Daniel Vosovic hoping to achieve the same with him.

The whole "competition" was obviously engineered to give Prince Daniel the win he missed in season 2. I would have had him and Uli switch places in terms of top and bottom four (I was fine with Sweet P's offerings), and I'd have given the win to Chris.

Poor Uli was damned if she did, and damned if she didn't. After being criticized throughout season 2 for the sameness of her silhouettes, she went into a different, architectural look and got slammed for not doing what she'd done before.

Gah...this was overall my favorite collection of the challenge and her restaurant look was BY FAR the best. Gorgeous no matter what the source of the materials. Her first look was the weakest but still nice, but the other 3 looks were stunning. I was horrified they dumped her in the bottom 4 and let Dan and Sweet Pea into the top 4. Uli's stuff looked expensive...fit beautifully, crafted beautifully...expensive-looking. Dan's stuff looked not well fitted, not particularly well made and cheap. Huh. Boo. Uli was robbed yet again...

Just looking the collections before the judging, I thought for sure that Uli would win, and that Daniel would get laughed off the runway. Uli was totally robbed.

The restaurant look was my favourite look of the all-star challenge. I didn't like her much the first time around and I didn't think she could do stuff like this. Very impressive.

Regardless of whether it served the overall collection or not
.

Fair enough, I can maybe buy into that...but it was still undeniably much better than Sweet P's festering turd of a 'collection' - and Chris's, in my opinion. I don't think Uli should have won (or that Daniel should have lost, necessarily) but I do think a lot of their choices and decisions were a bit strange (while I normally agree with the judges almost 100% of the time).

Thanks, Ricki. Your comments to Emma are spot-on. You can critique Uli if you like, but there is NO WAY her collection was not better (more sophisticated, better constructed, more beautiful) than Sweet Pea's. I mean Sweet Pea's restaurant dress was horribly CLUNKY. It looked exactly like an outfit designed from ransacking a restaurant. As TLo suggest, it seems clear that the producers wanted to create a redemption narrative for some of the past contestants. What I don't understand is why Uli - runner up in season 3 - was not a part of that narrative. She was horribly treated, I think. The judges comments to her were lame, and their decision to rank Sweet Pea above Uli was an INSULT.

That shit was just a travesty. I still cannot believe that they auf'd her, especially over Sweet P and especially, Daniel V.

Both her and Korto had reasons to be pissed, because they had the best looking collections.

I mean, look at that restaurant look! AMAZING!

Bullshit.

Hmm. Didn't think "she could do stuff like that?" Something that nobody seems to be noticing is that Uli's restaurant dress is the same old technique and just in a new silhouette. That dress is made up of horizontal strips of fabric, including the one Korto used as a belt for her own black and white dress.

The only difference here is that Uli didn't do some form of halter top and instead did a full sleeveless covered top with minor detailing at the shoulder. This was just a shift. All glammed up, to be sure, but just a shortie shift nonetheless.

What are you talking about? Her restaurant isn't "the same old technique" at all. If you don't think she should have won, fine. Opinions differ. But don't take a break from reality to support your opinion.

Even if Uli restaurant dress was "the same old shift", she came up with a hell of creative idea to use restaurant textiles and executed it beautifully. I would wear this dress.

I'm not as enamoured of this collection as some. The first look was dull, the second had a bit too much going on, and I dislike the way the third look exposes the boob.

That said, her restaurant challenge garment was gorgeous, and the second and third looks were very nice (with the caveats I've mentioned) and impeccably constructed.

Uli has clearly made tremendous strides as a designer, and the judges are idiots.

She should definitely have placed in the top four instead of Daniel, though I would not have given her the win.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I have no quarrel with Danny V's win. He put most of his focus and energy into the piece that really counted, and he was a very smart cookie to do that.

That being said, Uli was most definitely robbed of runner-up. I cannot fathom how she went out as one of the bottom 4.

I wasn't wowed by her first dress, but it looked like Sweet P's stuff only turned up to eleven. The other three pieces were better than anything else anyone else produced for this little show. That's even more obvious after looking at the screen caps. Compared to Danny V.'s collection, this is like manna from heaven. That Frau Uli didn't make it to the Final Four is an absolute travesty.

I LOVED Uli's clothes, and the restaurant dress was amazing - she was robbed, the judges made no sense this time, none. I always loved Daniel and wished he had won the first time around, but don't think he deserved it over Uli.

Truli truli, Uli deserved the win!!

I wanted Daniel to win just because he's my personal favorite. However, when I saw Uli's collection I KNEW it was the best. I was shocked when she didn't make the top four.

Uli wuz robbed . . . AGAIN!

Yeah, she'll always be a favorite of mine. I'd wear those clothes in a heartbeat, and more important, I and a whole lot of other women COULD wear those clothes. Go, Uli!

too many cats

I hope that some young rising starlet was watching and will wear this (the restaurant dress) on the red carpet and become the instant beloved icon of Uli fans worldwide and build a career on it.
It would be smarter than just being another sheep wearing whoever is big this year.

I don't think anybody has mentioned this: could the DV win have been a set up for dueling divas....DV versus Christian Siriano for the posing twentysomething divas who don't age but do stage themselves very well?
