It's too nice outside to be blogging, so in the spirit of laziness, we offer you the following pretty-pretty. Ruben Toledo, fashion illustrator extraordinaire (and husband to Shelley O favorite Isabel), created a series of whimsical postcards based on the spring '09 collections for Vogue Nippon. Enjoy, darlings.

Love the Toledos.
Love snoods.
Love the Junya Watanabe skirts.

Those cartoon gals are far fiercer than the runway bitches!

That first model from the Anna Sui 2009 Collection is Jourdan Dunn? I don't think so...
The postcards are fantastic, though. :)

The postcards are very cute. You know, there are a lot of manga artists out there who are great at detailed clothing.. one such artist is Ai Yazawa (who does a pretty popular soap opera-ish comic called "Nana"). I'd love to see their take on some collections as well.

clothes look better on the postcards.

These are great. I love the runway clothes and models and love the take by Toledo.
Funny thing tho - we have a sorta crazy lady in town that wears the same kind of clothes as Junya Watanabe's to garden in. Same type of tops and skirts and shoes, different crazy hats. Who knew she was on to something rather than on something?

Junya Watanabe's collection looks like indigenous people wearing Western clothing.
Beautiful postcards.

Wow, I like the clothes on the postcards so much better than the runway versions! What a wonderful talent!
7/26/09, 10:25 PM
This is so cool, it reminds me of those old postcards from all over the world. What a treat, thanks, guys.

7/26/09, 10:54 PM
I love how they capture those "far-away" lands.
7/26/09, 10:55 PM
Gorgeous!! I still love old fashioned letters in the mail or a postcard. :)
7/26/09, 11:06 PM
I really like the Hermès. It vaguely (very, very vaguely) reminds me of Uli's finale connection.
7/26/09, 11:06 PM

Can we have a least ONE TFS-free post?
There is fashion beyond the boundaries of reality TV shows, folks.

Those illustrations are gorgeous! And the colors are so much more beautiful and vibrant than the colors in the actual clothes.
7/27/09, 7:56 AM
I must need a man . . . I could have sworn that monkey had a penis! Yep, I went in for a closer look . . . color me BAD!
7/27/09, 9:18 AM
Love the postcards-tres chic!
7/27/09, 9:55 AM
AUGH! I must have the Scandanavian folklore stuff! Where's my credit card?!?
7/27/09, 11:26 AM
The postcards are charming. Such a fan of his work!
The clothes, while all beautiful (especially the Junya Watanabe skirts and tops) look far too much like costumes, especially the way they're styled, to imagine real women wearing them. Okay - they're not all beautiful. The Ralph Lauren looks are fug. Hammer pants? OMG.
7/27/09, 11:40 AM
I love them!!!
7/27/09, 11:41 AM
I'm a huge fan of his work. Thanks for this, Tlo!
