In or Out: Cate Blanchett

Enough with all this reality TV talk, let's get our fashion on, bitches!

Cate Blanchett attends the Armani
Privé Fall 2009 Couture show during Paris Fashion Week at Palais de Chaillot in Paris wearing Armani Privé, and ohmigod, kittens...

... she nailed it once again.

Armani Privé Spring 2009 Couture Collection
Model: Magdalena Frackowiak

Not every gal could pull off a look like this, but it almost looks like it was tailor-made for Cate's angular, icy self. Her body looks slammin' in that frock and that simple, loose, slightly disheveled ponytail makes a perfect complement. Love the frosty eyes and the pale pink lipstick, as well as the almost total lack of jewelry. That's usually not the most flattering hem length but she's so tall and thin and FREAKIN' FABULOUS that it looks just fine to us.

The only thing we don't really like are the shoes (from the same collection), which, due to the color and the relative chunkiness, tend to draw the eye down when the dress clearly needs to be the focal point. Besides, she did that matchy-match thing with her clutch and you just know how much we hate that.

We have SUCH a girlcrush on her. IN.

wow. as you said, 99.5% of women couldn't pull it off- even the superstars- but this is beautiful and so ladylike!

She looks fricken amazing!!

I would have paired it with a lighter weight shoe and changed the tone of the shoes and bag to a coppery color to pick up that band towards the bottom....but that's just me.

So very much IN!!!!!

I can go either way on her but the dress is fabulous!

Big IN.

I think that you girls should have an end-of-year retrospective on the stars and stanks of '09.

From Drew, to Cate to Anne Hathaway to *eech* Madge: Let's celebrate the highs and lows.

I love the dress, she looks amazing, but I agree on the shoes, they are ugly. IN.

I always feel bad when I see pictures of celebs next to super human models wearing the same dress, but I actually think Cate looks better. It looks fab.

she looks totally fab. when are we going to see reviews on the couture collections?!

Love from the waist up. I find the leafy part of the print elegant, the flowery part less so. And I don't like the length, or maybe it's that I don't like the little extension below the band. Either way, the dress ends in that unflattering mid-shin nowheresville. (The model fares a little better because it stops closer to her knee, but it's still not quite right, to my eyes.)

A qualified in.

She looks amazing! Definitely IN!

Really? I think the dress is awful and her hair looks like crap. To each his own I guess.

That dress is AWESOME, and it suits her perfectly. Wow.

If Galadriel the elf queen were transported to our world, I can see her wearing that.

I love this dress! And I love how it looks on her.
Yes the shoes don't work with it, but other than that...

BIG FAT IN!

She could wear a Home Depot leaf bag and make it look stunning!

A qualified "in". I cannot agree with you about the length of the dress. It doesn't flatter anyone, Blanchett included.

A light-colored, strappy shoe would have worked better as well.

YAAASSS! I love! I'm very much with TVKimmy though, lighter shoe. I thought the length would be horrendous but I like I like. Although now that I look at that band... what if you were to stop the dress right below the band? I think I'd like even more... Put on a copper cuff... yeah I think I would really like that. It's just a thought though.

A stunning beautiful dress. Didn't even notice the shoes or bag lol. Simple styling was perfect.

Cate is IN!

Take 2-3" off the hem and it's perfect.

Love her. If a bitch can pull off that length of skirt without looking stumpy, she's IN.

Looks better on her than on the model, by far.

She looks beautiful. I like her make-up, she's got some pretty colors going on.

The dress? I can take it or leave it. Well, mostly leave it. I have an old tea-tray at home that REALLY looks like that print!

I havew a feeling TLo's going to get a fair amount of grief - maybe it's the crush coloring your vision.

The length should have ended at the ribbon. The print is blah (to ugly). The shoes are just wrong.

The shape looks good on her and she looks nice, but while SHE may be a qualifies IN, the dress in OUT.

I personally disagree with the hem - it's a skotch too long for me. Other than that, it's a big in for me as well!

the first lulu

I've modified my vote. Hair does look like crap. But I still like the dress, tea tray or not. Still in.

IN

In in in in in! It takes regal bearing to pull off a dress like that. Can you imagine one of the Olsen twins schlumping around in it? But Cate the great pulls it off with panache.

Love the dress and love her in it, but it's a bit too long. I'd like to see it cut off just below the coppery band. It's cropped that way in one of the photos and looks a lot better. would hit her just below the knee like it does the model.
And with a pair of coppery or black sandals and a beaded bag.

Oh, now that is a vision straight from the bowels of Mordor, kittens!

Cate does this dress more than proud. She really works it!

Lovely. Better styling than the runway model too.
IN.

She is made of pure fabulous. For my money, I think her in that Galliano hummingbird dress a few years back is still the most gorgeous red carpet look EVER. This dress is lovely, too, of course.

I just fell in love with this dress. I want to be famous only so I can wear fabulous clothes! PS she looks 1000X better than the model, not that the model doesn't look good, Cate just looks that much better. She is definitely one of my favorites.

For my money, IN. I'm even ok with the length. Reminds me of a vintage chinese screen my mother-in-law used to have. It is elegant on Cate even if nobody else could pull it off. And that's the trick, isn't it? Figuring out what works for you and putting it together well.

I have GOT to quit reading this and finish my work. I spent my morning with your gazillion posts on TFS critique.

But, I have to say that you guys (+coffee) get my creative buzz going . . . thanks.

did it again sorry sorry for the double post

Love her always but not the total look this time. Maybe if she weren't up against that black backdrop ... because I do love it on the model.

wished it was hemmed a bit higher. But such a small complaint. huge IN. LOVE her as well.

IN

It's a shame that she is in front of a black backdrop, making it hard to see the bottom of the dress.

She stuck pretty close to the shoes and purse used on the runway (colors anyway). Girl didn't reinvent the wheel, but she didn't have to.

I like the Asian feel of the dress. And it is classy, like she is. (How many kids has she had, 2-3?--amazing.)

Mariah said, I want to be famous only so I can wear fabulous clothes!

You don't need to be famous to wear fabulous clothes. And, while it helps to be rich, even that isn't absolutely necessary. What you need is a good eye, a sense of your own style, and access to decent consignment shops!

Love her. No one rocks clothes like Cate. And please tell me you girls have seen the pictures of her sitting next to Megan Fox with a knowing smirk on her face. Pricelss.

IN - I didn't notice the shoes until you said something because I was too busy going crazy over the dress. And then purse? Eh.

She is SUCH a gorgeous woman! I am convinced she could wear a paper bag and pull it off.

SOOOOOO IN!!!

She looks like a walking Chinese vase. I kinda wish the dress stopped at the big stripe...she still looks fab though. Hate the shoes.

Totally fabulous. Love it.

Not so much.

potty mouth princess

So IN!!!!

I wonder if there was a keyhole back to mitigate the conservative cut (but GORGE print) in the front.

It's summer. She could have gone with a gold peeptoe pump or strappys to pay homage to the gold leaf pattern of the dress.

potty mouth princess

SILVER, not gold, dammit. Although gold might have been interesting and something Cate could carry off.

Absolutely IN. Everything is perf!

The dress is lovely and looks great on her - agree with everyone who said it could be a bit shorter, and though I love the shoes, they are a bit too chunky for this dress. Overall an IN, definitely.

A very well deserved IN!

Queen Cate is stunning, as always!

I love her, IN IN IN

IN. She's gorgeous!

I love the dress, but the shoes are not the right kind to go with that dress.

I don't think it needed to be shorter. I think it's fine as it is.

Isn't perfection perfect? My kind of a dress and my kind of a super star. Inspired.

I cannot get over how beautiful and fresh she looks. She's too pretty and talented, I envy her!

Love her, love the dress, the length is doable (for her), and her makeup is gorgeous. SHE is gorgeous! However, I don't like the lack of creativity with the shoes and bag, and I don't like her hair. Just my .02. Cheri

Love her, IN!!!

Not in love with the dress. The sleeves make me a bit uncomfortable. She, however, looks fabulous!

this is how Ms. Paltrow should dress
