TFS: Last But Not Least

Homestretch, poodles!

On the one hand, we thought the so-called "prize" for the mini-challenge - 5 minutes alone with Isaac - sounded...well, first off, it sounded a little sexual, but more importantly, it sounded like a bullshit prize.

We figured that all of the present designers already had some sort of understanding of what Mizrahi does, but y'know?

These bitches were the only ones to turn out a look that looked VERY Mizrahi.

Except for maybe that jacket. Isaac clearly hated it. We didn't hate it so much. We liked the silhouette; we just didn't like that it was made out of felt and we didn't like the gigantic ... what were those things, anyway? Closures?

Take off the jacket and it looks like somethings straight out of Isaac's collection.

We love all the fabric choices and the way they simultaneously go with each other while at the same time providing a little visual tension because the first impulse is to think they don't go with each other.

We especially like the contrasting plaid in the skirt...

And that pop of color in the belt, although we're not fans of the heavy-looking fabric they used.

And we love the fabric in that top but we hate that kibble (or whatever it is) sewn into the neckline.
All in all, a pretty strong entry from the queen contingent.

And a pretty weak entry from the bitch contingent.

Man, was this bad.

The jacket was just alright, although it seemed a little dated, both in silhouette and in color.

The blouse was actually pretty cool, with some interesting details.

But those PANTS, kittens. They are INDEFENSIBLE. Just horrible. Every single thing about them is wrong. The height of the waist, the height of the cuffs, the fabric choice, the pleating -- everything.

We realize that the two designers not only hate each other but work in very different styles, so a win was probably never going to happen but even we were shocked at how bad this garment turned out.

Reco can take some comfort in that he was vindicated in the judging, but he still had a hand in sending that horrific thing down the runway, so he can skip the smirking.

This was the point in the competition where I honestly consider Issac's recent contributions to the fashion world. At Target.

Kibbles.... hahahahaha! Snort!

I liked this challenge and agree that the show should be more focused on what a junior designer would do. I liked the 'behind the scenes' with I.M. and would like to see more like that.

BTW, I didn't mind the 'kibble' on the neckline. I thought it gave the top an interest and it worked with what the Miz was doing in his collection.

Daniella's pants kind of reminded me of those parachute pants (MC Hammer pants!) that kids wore in the 80's.

I cannot wait for Johnny to go! He lucked out by getting with Merlin. Oh but had that been Haven, im sure he would have been gone. No strong sewing skills to hide behind.

As for the garmets this week, Merlin turned out the best, the rest were ugly as sin save the jacket that Haven's partner made ( never remember her name, but I do remember most of her pieces hmmmm)

This show bores me beyond belief. And the clothes are horrible. As for the designers... I actually miss Blayne! Most (all?) of these guys are clearly nuts, but at least Blayne was fun. Too many uptight sourpuss bitches on TFS. God I miss Project Runway!

"Kibble" Ha!

Kibble and hot dog fingers all over the place in this challenge. The designers must have seen something on Isaac's inspiration board that led to that.

Daniella's always talking about what's youthful and what's not, yet she came up with those pants. The blouse is gorgeous, though; was it Reco's or Daniella's?

I like the tops on both outfits, but that's about it. And I agree that the Johnny/Merlin top did not need the beading at the time. The shirt is already glittery, it doesn't need anything else!

Brooklyn -- Reco did the top, that is why he is smirking up there.

Those pants are the first hideous thing Daniella has sent down the runway. Oh how I LOVE that it was during the Isaac Mizrahi challenge! Let's face it, Mizrahi is a far luckier designer than he is a talented one. Yes, using lots of explosions of color is great but his designs are usually just. so. tacky. He really has no business being such a fashion snob since he is viewed in the design world as the Wal-Mart of high-end RTW. If I had to design something I thought would fit into his collection, it would probably be something fug like couchy silk 80's mom-cut pants. But yeah, Daniella...never again, or I may have to be over you.

Merlin and Johnny's look should have won over Haven and Anna's. It is Mizarahi, only better. I too loved the color of the belt and the contrasting plaids. The jacket isn't my favorite but it is definitely a strong look.

I agree, her looks are very matronly-looking. Not a fan. I thought Chicken Diva and Samurai should have won.

I loved Merlin and Johnny's look. Would buy and wear it. Enough said about that.

Questions: What is Heather LaMiz doing for his current employer Liz Claiborne? Does Heather still design a colletion of clothes for Target? Does Heather still do a RTW runway collection? I never seen any of Issac's clothes in a mid-range or above department store. however, I may not have been looking in the right place. If anyone has any info, your post woud be greatly appreciated.

C'est moi, c'est moi Lola

Johnny Samurai did luck out in being teamed up with Merlin, because of Merlin's skills. And it's a testament to Merlin's sea change in personality that he deferred to Johnny.

But Johnny totally skeeved me out with his jokes about '5 minutes with Isaac'. Seriously kids, I nearly barfed up my vodka and cranberry. He needs to go - soon.

Well, now that my Lidiachka is gone, who do I root for? It's hard to say....

Daniella is such a hypocrite, all her BS about compromising and yet she didn't agree with any of Reco's ideas. He's the one who gave up on the skirt idea and decided to go with pants because that's what she wanted, and then she fucks it up. Her idea of compromising is to keep talking until you give up.

Daniella's idea of "youthful" is recycled 80s slush. The shit was ugly back THEN, so what makes it so great now?

If that's what the kiddies are wearing, they can keep it. I had enough of it the first time around.

Glad Reco was vindicated over her.

That bitch needed to be slapped down off of her high horse.

And the missing member of PM Dawn should be REALLY grateful he ended up with Chicken Diva. Saved his ass big time.

Now once again,

more pics of Lorenzo in tight, tight, Tshirts...

another laura

Team Queen deserved the win. Absent the jacket, the outfit could have been easily reproduced. The plaids in the skirt are adorable. I don't lerve the top, but also, yes, I Couldn't Really SEE It, Thanks To Bravo.

Blouse would have to come without kibbles, of course. Ha!!

Tampa Bay asked if LaMiz is still doing a Target collection. He is not. I don't know if he left to do other things like the show, or if they decided to focus on their sort of rotating designer thing they've been doing now where they only carry each collection for a short time and then move on to the next designer. I would like to know whose decision the split was.

Yes, I too thought Merlin deserved the win. I loved the plaid combo and the draped peg skirt. The blouse was cute and the shape of the jacket. I think the corndogs and kibble were supposed to be "African" inspired jewelry and may have even been findings from Isaac's collection.

I didn't think Reco/Daniella was a total loss. Although the pant was terribly unflattering. She should have suggested shortening the ball skirt and making a longish plaid drndil skirt. Very Mizrahi.

I think Johnny and Merlin both lucked out being teamed with each other. IMO Johnny has talent as a designer. merlin could execute a sketch drawn on a piee of tolet paper with a thick point sharpie into a runway prototype ready garment. They were a great team.

What I would really like to see from a drama and design point of view is the teaming of Johnny and Reco.

bitchybitchybitchy

Daniella needs to go -NOW. Those pants were hideous-no one wants to wear pants that give them the instant heifer look, plus the matronly print fabric. I may still be shuddering.

Honestly, I thought all of the looks for this episode were basically fugly.

JP-Thanks for the info and update. What I cannot figure out is what LaMiz is doing for Liz Claiborne. I know Liz Claiborne is a holding compny for many designer lines at all price points but why LaMiz? Maybe he was resposible for ruining the Dana Buchman
line now sold execlusively at Kohl's

It is too bad that Issac is not working with Target anymore. His stuff was usually cute and perfect for my college years budget!

Danielle makes some sad looking pants; she should concentrate on some other garment because they all look like this. Her tree hugger pants looked granny as well.

Didn't love the Merlin/Johnny concoction. The belt was sloppy, probably because Johnny executed it (executed is right). And felt for a jacket? Please.

The collection(s) he is currently doing under the Liz Claiborne umbrella is/are the same ones that Tlo have shown on this blog. The is designing under his own name and as far as I know Liz Claiborne will not appear on the label.

If Team B**** had done a big, puffy skirt, either floor length (Reco's idea) or mini, I think it would have worked. I like the jacket, if it were better executed, but not on that look.

Thanks for the info and clarification Sewing Siren!!!

Now I understand! LaMiz is now under the Liz Claiborne corporate umbrella just like Juicy Couture.

I'm not watching anymore, and I don't miss it. I still enjoy TLo's recaps, and besides, I couldn't see the garments on my big screen HDTV anyway. It's much better to wait for the posts.

As for the clothes, those are perhaps the most hideous pants I have ever seen. I'd rather wear Bradley's camel-toe Cher pants.

Merlin & Johnny definitely should have won, with or without the "kibble."

And TLo, I have to respectfully disagree. I hate the fabric of Merlin and Johnny. I just don't GET this ugly fabrics that are combined into an ugly look. I said my peace about this on another post so I will leave it at that.

So is there not going to be an interview with Lidia?

And i agree with most everyone here. Merlin & Johnny's design should have won. Those tired lookin' shorts Haven sent down the runway were just bleech.

I might have missed it but did they show the designers shopping for fabric? I always like that part.

See ya, Lids.
Daniella has some talent, but simply cannot make pants. Her treehugger entry generated the ugliest pants ever made (burlap? linen? quoi?), until these came along to slap them around a bit and take the top spot. New definition for "taste issue."

"...while at the same time providing a little visual tension ..."
Spot on, lovies. Matchy-matchy is nauseas, but it is a real trick to make it work (I miss the Gunn). Clothes should talk to each other, not scream obscenities.

PS: Love watching the designers' style. Is there some trend? Doesn't it seem like the fab designers dress in a 'uniform' so they can put their energy into the designs?

- BizzieBee

ahhh. I enjoy this show so much more, now that I'm not watching it! Thanks for the recaps, guys!

Kibbles... HAHAHA! I think they are bullters, but anywho, love the winning look!I'm a fan of shapes and interesting silhouettes and that's what we have here. I do not like the... wooden stakes, which make the coat look like an animal holding onto itself, which is what they might have been going for but... I don't know.
Belt was amahzing dahling! I actually liked the fabric, oh but one frabic I didn't really like was the skirt. Well not the fabric so much as I'm not into mixing plaids so... yeah. Thanks for the updates because right now I have no cable TV so this is where I get my doesages from!

fashionablylate

Isaac's Target line had some very cute pieces, the problem was the quality. I bought an adorable lightweight thick-striped sweater in shades of blue that fit like a dream and was comfortable to boot, but it faded after two or three washings. Also bought a great-fitting pair of black pants that fell apart in a couple of months. I realize it's a discount chain and it's not going to have designer-like quality and durability, but still.

The best thing out of ANY design in this entire challenge was Reco's blue blouse. I LOVE it. It is the only thing that really caught my eye. (Of course, nothing much catches my eye what with the horrendous lighting on this show.)

I must confess that I do not get the trend toward the high waist and/or paper bag waist pant. And the to add pleats to that mess. Who on earth looks good in that? Even the models look dumpy.
Despite the fact that she is the youngest in the competition, Daniella send the most matronly clothing down the runway.
I am still feeling a little queasy over the Johnny 5 minutes in heaven thing. EWWWWWWW!!!

I kind of hated the lime belt when I first saw Johnny and Merlin's entry but it mysteriously grew on me. I wasn't sure about the jacket. Maybe if I saw it in person. I also didn't mind the kibble and agreed it flowed with Isaac's kibble (damn that sounds funny.)

I really liked the Daniella/Reco top altho I can't recall who was responsible. The jacket may also not have been bad altho it looked too Talbots for me personally. The pants tho-good Lord. Clown college. Funny how the top two together consistently produce some of the worst looks.

Uhgg those pants. Bah! The pleating made the model look poochy. Wrong. Just wrong!

They're horrifyingly hideous. Oooh, let's not forget her completely nonsensical comment about Reco's idea. "He thinks a ball gown is high fashion." I mean, what? It's not the item, it's what the designer does with it. Anyway, the woman made a frakking romper. And she's responsible for those pants.

Daniella wouldn't know high fashion if she tripped over it.

Found the following interesting tidbit via google regarding LaMiz and Liz Claiborne:

"Issac Mizrahi is the designer of Liz Claiborne New York, the revamped women's Liz Claiborne line, which was released in Spring 2009."

TampaBay

Daniella wouldn't know high fashion if she tripped over it.

To be fair, neither would Reco.

He's fantastic at making clothes, but designing them..? Not everybody in the world wants to look like a stripper.

ICK! I didn't see the cuffs before! And that stupid center pleat even gives that tiny model a pooch.

I still think that Daniella just studied a bunch of vintage Simplicity patters so she could regurgitate them in competition.

I CANNOT see why Reco is getting a pass. He has been one of my favs, but that top is NOT good. Great the "neckline" had nice stitching or fabric (whatever those stitch lines were), but it was sloppy and unflatteri8ng and he recommeded a very short pant/hem and if he had tried to "play well with others" instead of concentrated on fighting with Daniella, they should have been able to knock it out of the park.

I usually hate the dressed it the dark, by a blind man, combination of patterns, BUT I did think that the two plaid fabrics and the bright belt were FAB!

Yawn.

Much as I disliked it, I thought Chicken Diva and Samurai's outfit should have won. TLo, you're spot-on that this is exactly the kind of stuff that Mizrahi does and it would have fit into his collection, minus the jacket.

I did love Reco's blouse details. Otherwise, the whole outfit was just a 50's housewife look.

Daniella obviously tried to fabricate a Balenciaga S/S 09 drapy satin pants out of her prozac-deprived misery but of course she failed fiercely. Im astounded none of you fashion-queens noticed!? Hence I truely wonder if this episode was shot before the S/S 09 Balenciaga show...
Anywayssss......I think she pulled a serious Kenley and should be sent home for that alone.

I could see Sophia Petrillo wearing Daniella's and Reco's pants on a night out with the buddies from the nursing home.

Johnny's and Merlin's design was gorgeous! I think theirs was better than the winning design.

Uhhh...what on Earth are you talking about? Perhaps nobody noticed because there is zero connection. What pants in this collection look even remotely similar to Daniella's? Yeah, the pants were ugly, but that doesn't mean she was copying someone.

"Isaac's Target line had some very cute pieces, the problem was the quality."
I have two cardigans I got at thrift stores that are from Isaac's Target line and they have been quite durable through many washings and wearings. Maybe the fabrics varied from piece to piece.

"I could see Sophia Petrillo wearing Daniella's and Reco's pants on a night out with the buddies from the nursing home."

Exactly! I mentioned on a different posting that the pants had a "Golden Girls" look, but the colors are wrong. Sophia would be rockin' some tropical colors.

I still think the right design won, but that's probably because, if Merlin and Johnny's is an accurate representation of Mizrahi, I really don't like Mizrahi.

Did Johnny try to give the model his hairstyle?

The wrong team won. The chartreuse belt was inspired. That color popped and made the outfit. Those two divas wuz robbed.

I know thy hate each other but I wish Reco had of responded to Daniella denial of the ballgown with a suggestion to do a full skirt. Or if Daniella had suggested a full skirt when Reco said ballgown. I know, I'm asking a lot of those two, but they both have enough skill that they could have knocked this out of the ball if they were wishing they could knock each other out.
Daniella's taste is old and dated, Reco while youthful can be a bit tacky, but his shirt was great, the jacket was so-so, a tiny compromise on the bottom could have saved them.

Reco may not be a great designer, but he knows how to execute and he's reality show gold. He's the only thing keeping me watching this show.

Oh shit, it looks like the Kenley bitch is scheming to get Reco eliminated the next episode.

I don't think I will watch, for fear of hurling a champagne glass at the screen.

Gawd, I cannot stand that self-righteous heffa.

Is it possible that Daniella was humbled by her utter smackdown in this challenge? Nah. I'm sure she, like her WonderTwin Kenley, learned nothing and did zero self-reflection after this. All she will be able to think about is how much she wants to get back at Reco. Hence she will stay on the show ad nauseum, because reality TV loves vengeful bitches. Sigh.

Sweet Jesus on rubber crutches, I also missed the cuffs the first time around! Those pants get worse every time you look at them. Yogurt pastels, ugh!

I think that was the "bolero" jacket Daniella wanted to make in the first episode. She does realize it's a swing coat, and not a bolero? I couldn't be bothered to watch the show this week. I realized that because of the stupid retail aspect there's pretty much no chance of seeing totally frivolous, FABULOUS fashion things, and that has me down. I miss Project Runway and Tim Gunn in particular. Where can I track him down here in NY? I should stake out the Met.

5 minutes alone with Isaac - sounded...well, first off, it sounded a little sexual

I've heard of "quickies", but that would be carrying it to extremes!

if I were a contestant on TFS, and I would make a great contestant because I cannot sew and would fit right in, I woud make a bolero jacket becuase I want to win. Bolero jackets are cheaper to produce for ShopBravoTV.com than the long boyfriend coats we are seeing on the runways because they require fabric.

TampaBay

Merlin and Johnny (urgh!) WERE ROBBED!!!!!!!!!!

I loved team queens jacket.

Daniella should have gone home for that horrifying pants.
