Fire Island, Part 3: Backstage, Bitches!

Let's watch models getting dressed!

Actually, it's not as titillating as it sounds. The pre-show fittings went like clockwork but if someone wanted to shoot a documentary about it it would be 2 hours of "Try this on." "Ok, now give me a walk." "What shoes go with this?" etc., ad nauseam.

The real fun, as we said yesterday, was getting all the models out on stage in a timely manner. There were no pictures of that little struggle because everyone was manning their battle stations. All the pictures you see in this post were either from Saturday's fitting or from Sunday morning, hours before the show started.

It went like this: Tom was positioned at the top of the stairs leading to the runway. His job was to pace the models to make sure that they were going slow enough to give each one a chance to run back down the steps and into their next outfit. Lorenzo, all the designers, and their designated assistants were down in the dressing room, ripping clothes off the models and hurriedly throwing the next outfit on them (which wasn't easy with Stella's lace-up getups). Only once during the show was there a moment when there were no models on the runway, which caused Tom to run down the steps, burst into the dressing room and shriek "Empty stage! Empty stage!"

A special shoutout must be given to the hair and makeup people as well as the photographer, all of whom were giving their time and expertise to the event gratis:

Photographer: Koitz
www.koitzphoto.com

Makeup: Christopher Drummond
www.christopherdrummond.com

Hair: Louis Tedeschi, Tom DeGrandis, Anthony Linzalone, Robby Nelson

They were all incredibly professional and quick. At the very last minute, it was decided that, since there were fears that the weather wouldn't hold out, we would simply show one collection after the other with virtually no breaks in between. This meant that the original hair and makeup changes for each collection had to be scrapped. Still, somehow the hair and makeup folks managed to make minor changes to each look while the models were getting dressed and even managed to slap on some smokey eyes for the rougher look that Stella's collection required.

All in all, we had a blast and we have to say, there is SUCH an adrenaline rush when you're doing something like this. We can't imagine what it would be like to mount a major show but we definitely have an appreciation of the work all the behind-the-scenes people do to pull one off just so bitchy bloggers like us can sit at our desks and critique it.

A special shoutout to Virginia, who is one of our readers and won one of the VIP passes to the event. She came up afterwards to introduce herself and she was a total doll. Plus, she provided us with a couple pictures from her camera to round out our post yesterday. Luvya, girl!

Fabulous, guys! I'm going to be looking at those guys, I mean, pictures, all day : )

Hey, ToddNY, last week I saw a license plate ToddNY on the Grand Central or somewhere around there (I forget). Wasn't you, was it?

I love backstage shots : )
I love to see all the frenzy and the models text messaging while they're doing their hair and makeup. Plus, all the boys in underwear of course.

Extraordinary work, TLo, from you, and everyone else. What a super inside introduction to all of us civilians. Somehow your telling it makes it more immediate than even the bustle we've seen backstage in the various seasons of PR.

Well, well done.

Where you find the energy to do all of this, this show, the blog, your business...? THAT would be a product to market, if it could be concentrated in a bottle or a tablet!

Lots of applause for you from the greater NYC 'burbs.

All the best,

NDC

LOL. I love you guys!
I know I've said that many times, thank you for all you do.

You guys could just go to those fabulous events and never bother to post so many pictures, so I really appreciate it.

TLo, you are beyond wonderful!!
The joy you bring to us everyday is so, so much appreciated!!

Yeah, what Isabella said - I love you guys! I'm an obsessive reader of your blog, but seldom comment - and you make me smile every daym (I have to admit the vision of shrieking Tom made me laugh out loud!) Thank you for all you do for us.

That snap of Stella looking back over her fierce shoulder is priceless!

Your whole sequence of posts has been wonderful. Thank you for sharing your fabulousness -- and when I say "your" I'm including the designers, the models, the backstage artistes, everyone who made this happen. Sigh. Such a wonderful diversion from my hum-drum midwest life!

Congrats to Virginia on winning a ticket, and congrats to TLo and the designers for putting on an amazing show. Thank you for making us feel like we were there.
