TFS: Team Daniella

Let's wrap this shit up in a nice big bow that converts into something else for no good reason!

Keith:

So many questions about this puzzling article of clothing, ladies. So many questions! Like, okay, it's a coat, right? That you can convert into a sunbathing mat? Who wears a coat to go sunbathing? And what is that piece hanging off the back of it? It's the top of the coat, right? Who wants to wear a metallic tube top with an extraneous hood hanging down the back of it? While sunbathing?

Clearly, this is a coat for crazy people who go out on a rainy day, hopeful that the sun will unexpectedly come out and give them a chance to catch some quick rays on the sidewalk before they catch their bus.

Daniella:

What an amazing concept! It's a coat! Except it also has these little compartments where you can store things! Like an ipod! Daniella should immediately run out and get a patent on this revolutionary design. We suggest she call them "pockets." We predict they're going to be all the rage among the kids.

It is kind of a cool design, though. And clearly, the bitch can sew. Sure it looks like a "Chinese roof," but she said that as if it was a bad thing. Not crazy about the collar or the fabric choice. Looks a little "vinyl tablecloth" from here.

Anna:

It's a gorgeous coat and it's perfectly executed. Heather bitched that having built-in gloves and a scarf wasn't revolutionary, but it's a hell of a lot more useful than a coat/towel or coat/shoe rack. We'll take "seen it before" over "clothes that make no damn sense" any day of the week.

I wonder if the whole "always the bridesmaid, never the bride" is going to be a running theme with Anna. It worked for Jay McCarroll, who won when it really counted!

Yes good output from the ladies on this silliest of team challenges. The fact that they managed to have a cohesive collection is amazing

Personally I thought Ann'a would be more marketable even if it would be more expensive to manufacture than Andrew's.

Also I loved the pagoda comment of Daniella's about her own coat. Sounds like something you guys would say. She may be an immature bitch but at least she's not completely delusional

Frank

Wonderful post, guys!

Keith - Of course, if the raincoat starts out with really short sleeves, you've got to do something about those wet arms. No problem - the sun will magically come out and you can just stretch right out on the sidewalks of New York on your coat mat/diaper pad to dry right out! Of course, the stilettos in the eye while you're obstructing traffic might be a problem....

Daniella -this was a nifty design. I'd wear it. And, the add-on feature was nice and practical. Did Heather Miz specify that the extra feature had to be "revolutionary"? No matter. This is a coat that people would buy.
It's a head scratcher that it wasn't chosen for the win.

Anna - a stylish silhouette, even if we have seen it before, and perfectly executed. I agree that the hidden gloves and scarf don't surprise like some of the other extra features, but they do have the significant advantage that they are not a turn-off from buying this beautiful coat. She wuz robbed.

Anna really deserved the win, especially when Andrew's originality was called into question.

The idea if built-in gloves and a scarf is actually something that a normal person would in the real world, as opposed to some crazy jewelry rolls or anything like that.

Plus, the coat look expensive, which is something that a lot of these designers seem to have trouble doing.

You guys obviously didn't get the patent about Daniella inventing pockets. At least not superiorly designed THAT way.

She invented Chinese houses, too.

As a matter of fact, she invented coats. Every single one on that stage. Yup, all her ideas.

Who knows what else we would be lacking in our everyday lives if she hadn't thought of it?

"Chinese Roof." Oy. Daniella's one of those people who're too young to realize how damn young they are. Hopefully some day she'll develop the ability to laugh at herself.

Anna's was gorgeous, and of course I like it since she referenced ME. ;)

But lest we fret too much, let's remember that PR season 3 went on for several episodes before Mychael Knight got any wins or significant airtime; Anna will come into her own.

I can't stand Daniella, but the bitch knows what she's doing. She's not going anywhere.

LOVED Anna's coat. She's very talented, I'm rooting for her : )

" John said...

I can see that.

Anna's was my favorite coat from this team. It is beautiful and practical and should have won. I need a trench coat, but there's no way I'm buying Andrew's - or was it Daniella's? Just what I want, something to make my lower half look even bigger that it is.

Keith's was a head scratcher, and Daniella's was OK - I didn't like the pagoda sleeves, but at least it HAD sleeves.

I think this is the second week in a row that Anna has been robbed. Her coat looked warm and cozey, yet stylish. I would have preferred a different fabric b/c the one she chose is a little couch-like, but otherwise it looks nice. But I am still upset she didn't win last week. That skirt was a-mazing and no one over 4 should wear rompers (esp ones with sheer "bombers"...*shudder*).

Where was the cohesion in this collection? Aside from Anna's coat, I thought the common theme for this group was "ugly."

That satin roller derby duster-turned-beach blanket/tube top was a bad enough concept to be on Team Loser. I'm surprised that Daniella didn't suggest more innovative ideas to Keith.

My new back pack from LL Bean has a special velcroed inside pocket for iPods with a neat rubber gasket for the headphones to come through. Too bad LL didn't apply to The Fashion Show.

I love Anna's coat. It looks like a million bucks compared to the rest of the other designs. I hope she goes far in the competition.

Heathers original comment was something like "Sometimes I wish my coat could do more, like has a panel that makes it warmer or ....". Now which option sounds like it could finish this sentence
A) or have a place to hang all my shoes
B) or turn into a sun bathing mat
c) or have a place to hide my gloves and scarf til I am ready for them.

Obviously C makes the most sense, so I don't get where Anna should have been criticized for have a reasonable idea of how her coat could 'do more'. I really wish they would had rewarded that idea.

I am really liking Anna and her 'Go Go Gadget' jacket.

Keith- This is a dress. An UGLY dress. An ugly dress with a dumb gimmick. Who wants to lay down on their clothes in the sand? If don't mind having sand on your clothes, why take them off? Truthfully I can't blame him for the dumb gimmick, but for the ugly dress? I can.

Daniella- I think it is a sharp looking jacket. I actually like it better than Anna's and the winner. The gimmick is dull, but better dull than dumb or absurd. The ones that did the best focused more on the coat than the gimmick.

Anna- This one is very nice. Not my favorite, but good. She has a lot of talent and hopefully in it for the long haul. I don't know why this one didn't win because it certainly looked better the runway than the raincoat and I don't think the cost of production would be any high. Maybe lower, even.

I liked Daniella's pagoda-roof sleeves, and my favorite coat (the only one I might possibly consider purchasing) of the whole episode was Anna's. Especially the back view.

Keith - I'm starting to feel sorry for him. Maybe he should have tried out for American Idol instead, since he's got the look.

The intersection of designers & dumb challenge HAVE made this an entertaining week for TLO bon mots, though. That's an upside.

Personally, I need a coat that has built in gloves and a scarf. I swear my coat eats my gloves and that's why I can never find them!

Did anyone else think that Anna's design was passed over for the win because the winning garment was going to be sold at the end of May?

I have a feeling that if this show had been scheduled for broadcast right before Labor Day, rather than Memorial Day, Anna's gorgeous fall coat would have won.

I agree 100% with every word, TLo.

Anna was robbed of the win, IMHO.

Aside: I loves me some TLo. A day without TLo is like a day without air.

Anna, best design, hands down. When are they EVER going to give it to her?

ANNA. WAS. ROBBED.

I really wanted Anna to win because I wanted to buy that coat!

I liked Daniella's sleeves. The collar's a bit weird, but it does work with the overall design. I'm re-thinking the fabric: the stiffness is what makes the sleeves work, though "shiny" is not so great.

They eloped with my gloves. I was putting away winter stuff the other day, and I swear I had more single gloves than I had pairs!

Yes, coats have pockets, but have you ever tried to actually put things in the pockets of a nicely tailored women's topcoat?

You end up with "lumpy front" or "poochy hip pouches." These are not nice looks.

The "chinese roof" sleeves actually provide fashionable camoflage that allows a nice place for tissues, change, bus pass, keys, that don't jingle and mingle in with each other in a pocket.

And you're not pulling out wadded nose tissue and your parking pass when you pull out your keys to the Porche.

Another website recap on Heather's own jacket:

"Not Beyonce poorly reads a line off a card asking Isaac if his jacket is his own, and he faux humbly answers yes. Of course that's a Mizrahi. He's the only designer I know that can take eight hundred dollars of Italian leather and make it look like ten bucks. He wasn't the queen of Target for nuttin."

Exactly, suzq. Pockets are not revolutionary, but pockets which are in the most convenient place are an art form-- especially for those of us that are such creatures of habit that we could easily deal with our iPod, passport, wallet, keys, etc. being in different places so long as they're always in those places. I used to wear my iPod in a pouch that hung around my neck (inside the coat) for the longest time because that was the easiest way to reach it when bicycling across town. A jacket with a pocket on the chest or in the sleeve would've taken care of that problem.

Also, is it just possible that Daniella forgot the word "pagoda" in the moment she was being interviewed?

I would be just fine with Anna coasting along under the radar for the majority of this competition, like Jay did in PR....if this weren't a show where you could buy the winning design! As it is, it's going to be really irritating to see somebody else's inferior stuff being put up for sale week after week instead of hers.

Check out those wickety-whack hems on Daniella's Chinese Roof sleeves.

Now THAT'S something Nina would've had her head for.

Can't wait for her ass to be voted off.

I really thought Anna's should have won...mostly because that's a coat I would actually consider buying. Oh well, saves me money in the end :(

I kinda feel bad for Daniella (young and naive) but LeMiz was right about this happening in the fashion world all the time. By being team leader she's already getting some credit for all of them winning.

Handsdown Anna was the winner in my mind, but I know I know it's all about how cheaply it can be made and then how much they can mark up the price on Bravotv.com...did I say that outloud?

Anywho while I want Keith to stay ( he's a cutie and he's nice) he is one of the weakest so far, he to date has done nothing I love nor anything I truly hate he's just blah with no eye or pizzaz in his designs. I think he lacks vision

This is a very strong group, I'm curious to see how they work alone.

I can't believe they didn't pick Anna's. Are you kidding me? That was the best coat, best idea (no umbrella, shoe, mug out of my hoodie type of deal)...a luxurious coat that you would actually wear.

Agree with Fresca's comment: Thought the placement of pockets on Daniella's coat were fun & had utility. Also agree in not riding someone who is sleep-deprived & being filmed on the fly for forgetting the word "pagoda."

That said, I didn't love her coat; agree with T & L, the fabric choice was not the best. There was something a little Spiegel-y about the look.

Loved Anna's for style & utility (would love to have a coat with pockets placed where she has them for gloves) ... really think she shows amazing design talent -- hope she keeps it up across the next challenges.

Then Keith's: Ay carumba! Useless & it looked chip, very chip.

I love the idea of Anna's "Winona" coat. One could hide lots of stolen swag in those sleeve pockets. But seriously, yes, Anna was robbed again this week. I am really hating this winning item gets sold idea. This marketability factor thing will guarantee that creative, avant garde, expensive to produce items won't win. TFS is turning into Target Fashion Show. I have hated all the winning designs so far. Team Anna!

Aunty EC

I don't have a problem at all with marketability being a guiding factor in determining who wins each competition-- my problem is if a garment that is slightly less expensive to produce wins over one that is slightly more expensive, presumably on that basis. Sure, Andrew's raincoat probably costs less to produce than Anna's hide-your-gloves coat....does that make it more marketable? I don't see how, if much fewer people actually want to buy it. The same goes for Daniella's jumpsuit thing from the previous episode-- sure, maybe it's cheaper to make, but who the hell wants to buy it?

I don't have an economics degree or anything, but am I missing something about the problems with this notion of "marketability"?

Keith's coat would sell like hotcakes here in Seattle! There are many days in the spring, summer and fall when it is cloudy and looks like rain during the early part of the day but by late afternoon, the sun is out full force! You could wear the coat to work and then, leave the office, head off to the park and unzip the coat! Somebody, knock off this thing and send it on over!

Kasey and Fresca,
The cost of production is likely one factor in deciding the win, but not the only one, because there were plenty of other designs on the runway that would have been less expensive to produce. In the case of Anna Vs Andrew I don't see much difference. Last week the skirt she did was more complex vs. the wining short outfit , thererfore would have more operations and be more expensive in regards the price point they have in mind (that they think fans are likely to be willing to spend).
I'll tell you one thing. They aren't being super cheap in the production, because if you notice they are offering a broad numeric size range 2-18 or something like that. That insures a much more refined fit than S-M-L and is more expensive to do.

Daniella and Heather clearly had it all over Keith this time.

Ariel Shpigel

Love Love LOOOOOOOVE daniella's, pagoda sleeves included
And I love that the pockets, while not revolutionary, offer storage without disturbing the sleek lines of the bodice

and Anna's? gorgeous as well

those should have been the top 2

ANNA FTW!!!!

Unfortunately.

I don't get the love for Anna's coat. Nice fabric but when the silhouette is round above legs(lollipop), I don't think of it as flattering. I don't think that the shape is even good on the model.

I liked Danielle's.

Shiny fabric WOULD repel sand ;0) - so you could wear that first one, when going for a walk on a beach in late fall/early spring - when the weather is very changeable.
Oh, JK.

I can see some separation starting to occur, with the actual designers beginning to set themselves apart from the, um, non-designers. Anna and Daniella definitely have the chops.
