Matchmaker, Matchmaker

Darlings, expect to see more posts like this as we merge our two blogs into one mega-blogging extravaganza of fabulous. The merging is slow going and there was much cursing and yelling at blogger last night, so getting all the old T Lo posts over here is going to be a process rather than an event. In the meantime, new posts are going up here, which from now on is our one and only blog, Tom & Lorenzo. The Project Rungay url will stay they same for now, but since we're talking about so much more than just Project Runway, a name change was in order. The Lost posts, Virgins and Vixens and whatever else we feel like writing (Musical Monday next Monday!) about will show up here along with our daily output of reality television and fashion posts. Think of it like a Gay Huffington Post.

And in the spirit of that self-promoting attention whore Arianna Huffington, here's a link to our interview with Millionaire Matchmaker's Patti Stanger for Metrosource Magazine. We chatted with her last month and that girl is not without opinions - especially about the gays.

Some excerpts:

"You’re bluntly honest when you assess people. Do you find that people are more confrontational with you in life because of the way they’ve seen you act on TV?
I thought I was going to get a lot of backlash and people were going to hate me, but I was at the A-List Awards [recently] and all the stars were coming up to me, and they were madly in love with me. They want to see people kick someone’s ass, especially when they make mistakes. They want to see people tell it like it is, and I don’t think anyone’s doing this.

You wrote a book: Become Your Own Matchmaker.
It’s basically eight steps to finding true love. Obviously, for women, it’s about getting the ring, but you know, there are a lot of women over 40 who’ve been married or don’t want to get married. It’s all about finding that love at the end of the day. When we all go to that great place in the sky, the one thing we’ll have is our regrets, and I don’t care who you are: you need love. My job is to bring people together. I learned these techniques from my grandmother and I used them to find my boyfriend, whom I’ve been with for five years. So it works. It definitely works. It’s the tricks of the trade; it cuts all the fat out. It’s basically “add water and bake."

Can't wait for Musical Mondays again!

Yippee! Only one URL to obsessively check throughout the day - thanks, Boys!

"Obviously for women it's about getting the ring"

... speak for yourself. An attitude like that will set women back about 45 years.

BTW, Patty, where's your ring?

Boys, I'm kinda sad you're going to be dropping the great "Project Rungay" name. I hope you didn't get threatened by copyright infringement or anything like that!

I watched her show a few times and couldn't help but feel a little disgusted by it. To me she's a high-class pimp.

Can't wait for Musical Monday, TLo!

"You have a no-sex rule for your clients. How the hell are you going to enforce that with the gay clients?
Well, it’s not about “no sex”; it’s about “no sex without a commitment."

Hahahahaha. Honey, we drop our pants before we even ask their name.

Love the combined blog idea, but dropping the PRG name is really, really depressing. Sure the blog is about more than PR now, but the blog has always been more than PR; it's had other fashion related posts, updates about collections, dress ripping, other reality tv shows, etc. It's so catchy and perfect and ditching it, especially when you consider the URL is staying as is, seems like a bad move.

The problem is that women are insulted because most men view them as sex objects, men are insulted because most women view them as walking wallets.

Aww, no more "Project Rungay". Boo.

But I'm happy you're building your empire! You two must be excited! But, Musical mondays next week? THAT is the only thing that will save me from the horrible depression I've been feeling! Can't wait!

You just CAN'T drop the "Project Rungay" title -- you can't! It's so much better than "Tom and Lorenzo," which is such a generic title.

Please, please, no.

Tlo, darlings, I don't care what you call it, I don't care where you blog, as long as I get my daily fix.

"Fabulous & Opinionated" Indeed.

The thing is, she claims to have a 99% success rate, but we never see any successes on her show. Only once do I recall seeing a blurb at the end that a couple were still seeing each other 6 mos later.

Either the truly serious ones know enough not to go on tv or her stats are off. Most of the men she takes as clients on the show seem to be juvenile -- older, odd-looking guys who think they are magically attractive to women 20 years younger than them. It's kinda depressing to see how far their self-concept is from the reality that they are aging spoiled little boys who never grew up.

Of course, the occasional exception is thrilling to watch.

Losing the PR name? Total bummer.

Is there going to be a different URL also?

i agree, i too will miss the name but also agree with FashionFanatic who said...
"Tlo, darlings, I don't care what you call it, I don't care where you blog, as long as I get my daily fix"

Yelgch!! That's what I have to say about the Millionaire Matchmaker. I hate when she yells at the women about how to dress and wear their hair. It's like she producing an army of Matchmaker look-a-likes bound on roaming the earth looking for some unsuspecting man to latch in to.

But, the men are just as bad. I'm sorry, but the calibur of women who apply to be in the club are a dime a dozen in LA. Are you really paying Patti thousands of dollars to serve you up what is already out there? I guess the difference is these ladies go into the situation knowing his financial status off the bat. So maybe they're more apt to overlook hair plugs and inflated egos.

Well, it's staying "Project Rungay" on my Favorites. So there.

As for that matchmaker woman, her hair bugs me.

LOL. So true.

As our GayBoys unofficial IP counselor, I can assure one and all that Tom and Lorenzo definitely is not 'generic.' In fact, given the massive use that our TLo have made of the title, it is both distinctive and protectible as a designation for an on-line journal, namely a blog on fashion, style, home decoration, entertainment, commentary and matters of general interest.

TLo, I'll file your application for you at the USPTO!

All the best,

NDC

Hurray!!
Remember way back when it was Project Gay?

ughhh. patti looks like a total tranny (and not in a good way) and her approach to matchmaking is totally with a 1950s mentality. women just want rich husbands according to her. and she advocates not sleeping with people till you're married--i really bet she and her boyfriend follow that advice.

Please tell me I'm not the only person who finds this show horrible and offensive? And not fun and trashy--unwatchable.

She is a glorified pimp.

P.S. Please go back to Project Rungay!

another laura

Guys, I know you must be putting in horrible amounts of work doing all of this so we can read, digest and snark right back. Many thanks! And I also can't wait for Musical Monday, hooray!

As for this matchmaker woman, I refuse to watch.

So, Tlo, was losing the "Project Rungay" name a condition of continuing to get screencaps from Bravo?

I kind of hate her

Musical Monday next week????

YAY, YAY, YAY, YAY, YAY!!!!

Anon said, "The problem is that women are insulted because most men view them as sex objects, men are insulted because most women view them as walking wallets."

That's true about some people, but not all, and maybe not even most. Unfortunately, far too much of her advice perpetuates that sad and soulless way of looking at love, sex, and partnership. Her show is watchable only in the sense that it's hard to look away from a trainwreck.

And congratulations, Boys. "Tom and Lorenzo - Fabulous and Opinionated" sounds just right. Smart, though, to keep the URL because some people will still look for you at ProjectRungay (though you could simply set up that url to point to TomandLorenzo.whatever).

I watched the show a couple of times but won't bother any more. It's just awful in my opinion. She seems to be running something more like an escort service: I didn't see any real effort put into finding compatible matches.

I have actually watched a few episodes recently (I steadfastly refused for a long time) and actually found Patti Stanger to be much more likable than I expected. I don't really see it as her pimping anyone out, she's just performing a service for people to meet each other, and they decided on their own what to do. Yeah, the chicks are pretty average for LA girls, but then who is the stupid one - Patti or the socially-stunted rich dudes who pay Patti out their to ass meet these average hos? Team Patti!

Musical Monday! Hooray! Also, "Think of it like a Gay Huffington Post." love it

Ok, what exactly are Musical Mondays?

You can call yourself whatever you like - you are the highlight of my day every day!! Thanks for all of your wisdom and humor!

Musical Mondays.

Can't stand the bitch but I do love you bitches so I will tolerate the posts about that bitch =)

There. Obligatory use of the word "Bitch" at least 3 times in a sentence - check!

I crave Musical Mondays.....!

P.S. May I please use "Fabulous & Opinionated" as my tombstone inscription? Right above "She died in a freak shoe sale accident"

love you guys! musical mondays! nothing but happy sighs here.

by the way- fabulous & opinionated is great but "we're gay. we judge. that's what we do" was my fave. ty for all of your amazing work and for all of the great posts lately.

excuse the poor grammar, i broke my damn finger playing football at a family party. would have rather been shopping haha

LOLOLOL That's hilarious, Carol!

Kittens, keep getting bigger and bigger, just don't change who you are. What you guys have here is unique and fabulously witty.

i fucking hate matchmaking. i like to be able to choose who i'm going to date on my own.

She's the one who said that men don't like redheads. On what planet??

I love the show! Patti always tell the absolute truth and she hits on some very good points about men and women when it comes to relationships. One thing that she always says is men don't know what the hell they want in a woman. Hell yes.

Daddies... I will most certainly miss the PRG masthead and tagline, but change is the new black, n'est ce pas?

Keep up the fabulous work.

No, competition is the new black
: )

CAN'T WAIT for Tlo's treatment.

Hey Patti - here's one person who is NOT madly in love with you! I'd eat my hat with a fork and knife if she was able to find me love. Just sayin'.

I love Patti and her show hardcore. I don't know why. I just think she is so fabulous and funny and strong. :)

Musical Mondays!?!?!?! Oh, you have just made me a happy musical geek! If I might be so forward as to make a few suggestions for future musical mondays additions:

In the Good Old Summertime
There's No Business Like Show Business
Take Me Out to the Ball Game
White Christmas
I Love Melvin
Call Me Madam
Annie Get Your Gun

Does anyone have an urge to give her a makeover? Every time I see her all I see is hair that's too heavy for her face and clothes that make her look (I suspect) heavier than she is.Call me shallow, but I could never take her seriously so I don't watch the show.

I am going to miss Project Rungay!
But I will still read the blog anyway!

xoxoxo,
kjt

May I suggest:

Project TLo:
The fabulously opinionated gay duo.

or

Project TLo
Fabulously Opinionated

love you guys the mostest! Every post you post just makes my day a little bit more gay. ... I mean gay as a synonym for happy! :) So call yourselves whatever. Just keep it up.

No offense to you guys, but for me the changes to the site haven't been for the better. I'm really disappointed at the idea of losing the Project Rungay title, like many of your other readers. I wish there was (or will be) a filter so that I only could see fashion related posts, or project runway related posts.

I also REALLY miss the drop down search feature for individual project runway designers and episodes. Man, that was handy. I went back and reread old posts quite a bit.

I love this site.. it is so funny and witty with fabulously fun followers. TLO, if you are making changes than i have no doubt it will just be even more fabulous and bitchy in the future. Congratulations on your success. Gay Huff Po go for it.

I really miss Musical Mondays, I read the Mame post again last week in tribute to Bea Arthur, I forgot how viciously funny they are

It's right there at the bottom of the page.

Great! One stop for all your fabulosity : )

They're fucking hilarious! "White Christmas" is still my favorite.

Project Rungay is too fabulous of a name to get rid of it. It is also how I found you boys! I came for the runway and stayed for the bitchery :).

Also, I agree with those who do not like this show. I find it very tacky and if she really said the comment about redheads? Ridiculous.

I will always LOVE this blog, no matter what.
"No Day is Complete Without the Fabulous Bitcheries of TLo" is my motto!!!!

The show is very lame.

" Anonymous said...
Can't wait for Musical Mondays again!"

YES!!!!!

Before I ever visited the site, I thought it was a blog written by an Indian named Rungay. To this day I imagine Tom and Lorenzo wearing turbans and elaborate salwar.

formerlyAnon

Who am I to critique the plate from which you two dish up so much entertainment, sauced with hilarity and respect for the frail, flawed, real selves hidden beneath public personas?

I find Ms. Matchmaker fascinating, though her clients, not so much. (I maintain that anyone, client or date, that would agree to be filmed in such an endeavor is either nuts or too stupid to be allowed to breed.)

I'd have to be paid a boatload to work for her - I think she means well but expects more of an emotional payback from her employees than I could stand.

Musical Mondays! I'm with ToddNY, White Christmas is still my fave, and I re-visit it regularly. It will be a joy to look forward to a new work from your agile brains.

I am sorry, boys, but I HATE that woman and her show....LOVE everything else you do!
Kisses!

Did anyone see the episode of Millionaire Matchmaker that featured one "Dr. Nettles"? TOTALLY gay guy, pretending to look for a wife. Creepiest thing I've encountered in a long time...

Quit yer crabbing, everybody; about the name change. It's THEIR blog (which we've all gotten hours of enjoyment from, I might add); the name change is THEIR business. Don't bite the hands that feed you.

Nothing's forever-- including Project Runway-- so I can only assume that Tom & Lorenzo are smartly segwaying into a less specific blog title before PR eventually goes bust.

Lisa, both Dr. Nettles and the creepy guy with the stripper pole in his living room set off my gaydar bigtime.

I'm another one who is going to miss the Project Rungay name but I will always trust you. And Musical Mondays!!! Way to make me actually look forward to Mondays.

Dude looks like a lady....just sayin'

Love your blog, whatever the name!

Congrats on the new blog! I'm very much looking forward to more Musical Mondays. Any chance you guys will ever take on Some Like It Hot?

Yes, he totally did! Besides being creepy and afraid of the girl who wanted to have sex with him, how many straight men keep so many penises (what's the correct plural of penis? peni maybe?) in his living room?

Y'all alluded to talking with Senora Matchmaker. Do we get to hear about the TLo chat with Patti?

Ugh, never liked her. Caught one episode where she was interviewing what appeared to be a very stable, down to earth, nice guy. And she immediately labeled him as "boring" and explained that she needed to make a few changes. Trying to change people, oh yeah that's relationship gold right there, Patti. I changed channels.
