2009 MET Gala - Part 2

Labels: ,

That's right, bitches! You're not gonna get ANY work done today!

Jessica Biel in Atelier Versace Spring 2009 Couture

We love this dress but we don't really love it on her. This is a mite cruel of us but Jessica, pretty as she is, is kind of ... graceless. She can't really pull off the poise for these more elaborate dresses. If we were her gays, we'd keep her in streamlined looks for occasions like this.

Mary-Kate Olsen in Christian Lacroix Fall 2007 Couture

The dress is pretty fabulous but she's way too young for this Miss Havisham persona she's always trying to pull off.

Brooke Shields in Calvin Klein

Jesus Christ, Brooke. Who did your makeup, a mortician?

Molly Sims in Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2009

It's sassy and apropos for the event but we can't really say she's workin' it.

Rosario Dawson in Diane von Furstenberg

A little on the dull side, no?

Kate Beckinsale in Marchesa Fall 2009

Bitch is working the shit outta that frock.

Kate Moss in Marc Jacobs

She looks fab. Very '70s Academy Awards from the waist up.

Cindy Crawford in Versace Fall 2009

Yow. Someone is looking a little desperate for attention.

Leighton Meester in Louis Vuitton Fall 2009

You know, we could totally get behind this if it just stopped at the hem of the skirt.

Eva Mendes in Calvin Klein

Yawn.

Jessica Alba in Jason Wu

We will both raise a glass in celebration when this '80s prom dress trend dies down.

Claudia Schiffer in Atelier Versace Spring 2009 Couture

That dried straw on top of her head looks awful but she's rocking the hell out of that dress.

Kate Hudson and Stella McCartney in Stella McCartney

It's like Jackie and Joan Collins: The Sequel.

Kate Beckinsale's dress is to die for. So beautiful!

I think Leighton would have looked wonderful if she had ditched the tights and applied about half of the amount of makeup (this could be said for a LOT of those ladies). I like that she went with bold colors, but those tights (and most tights) are horrible. Esp with the tie shoes.

Kate Beckinsdale and Claudia Schiffer - yay. Everyone else - either blah or nay.

The Atelier Versace dress is simply amazing.

And is it just me, or is Jessica throwing off a real Phoebe Cates vibe in her 80's frock?

"We will both raise a glass in celebration when this '80s prom dress trend dies down."

Amen, sisters!!!

Most of them look fab, I LOVE the Lacroix.

More tacky, unremarkable Stella MacCartney.

Kate Moss is all nicely coked-I mean, caked up for the ceremony.

And why is Jessica Biel famous again? Did she release a sex tape? Was she caught drunk driving recently? Is she "close friends" with Stella MacCartney?

I was looking forward to seeing Drew Barrymore but I don't believe she attended the event :(

Totally what I was going to say!

"It's like Jackie and Joan Collins: The Sequel."

Hahahahahaha! Snort!

I LOVED Kate Moss' look. She and Anna Wintour walked off with the award for best dressed. Speaking of Nuclear Wintour - who was she wearing?

formerlyAnon

I NEVER thought I would be saying this, but I think the most successful overall look is on Mary-Kate. It is an amazing dress, and it seems to me it's the absolutely dead-on perfect MET Gala extension of her day-to-day fashion persona.

It's not the most elegant, flattering or, well, *cheerful* gown at the event. But I think it is her look, looks (relatively) well on her, and it is appropriate for the occasion.

Ewww! RATS AT THE MET!

Oh sorry, that was just an Olsen twin.

Kate Moss gets high marks for different that work.

Cindy Crawford just looks AWFUL!

Kate Beckinsdale and Claudia Schiffer, I want the phone number and e-mail of your gays!

TampaBay

Jessica Biel bores me, whatever she wears.

Mary Kate looks vaguely homeless for the 8,000th time. How very Derelicte of her.

Brook Shields has AWFUL makeup, but beyond that her dress makes her look really, really wide. Did she even look in the mirror?

Molly Sims has no personality. People with no personality cannot wear clothes like that, no matter how pretty they are.

Rosario is going to prom.

Kate Beckinsale looks good but her Marchesa is giving me vague Saloon-girl vibes, which I don't like.

I think Kate Moss took the 'muse' part a little too literally. She pulls it off but it's not my fave. I can begrudgingly admit Marc Jacobs looks hot.

Cindy Crawford is wearing Frederick's couture and apparently put on sunless tanner in the limo on the ride over. Mottled orange skin is klassy.

Leighton Meester looks good but ridiculous at the same time. Not sure how I feel exactly.

Eva Mendes is dressed for the wrong event.

Jessica Alba proves that my detest for Jason Wu (and Jessica Alba) knows no bounds.

Claudia Schiffer looks surprisingly hot, aside from the straw hair you mentioned.

Poor Kate Hudson, forced to wear one of J. Lo's cast-offs, while Stella once again proves exactly much taste she has - not much.

The thing that makes Kate Beckinsale look so fantastic in that dress is how she's wearing it. The dress is gorgeous and would look great no matter what, but the model let the dress wear her. She was just there to have something hold the dress up, whereas Kate just exudes confidence. It's especially important when wearing a dramatic, high-impact gown like that to have that confidence. She wore the hell out of that dress, not the other way around.

TLo,

Who did the shoes Kate Moss is wearing and where can I get them?

TampaBay

"That's right, bitches! You're not gonna get ANY work done today!"

LOL. My boss decided to join me here and critique the dresses. LOL.

a third laura

if i weren't already behind in my work, i would be now- but thanks for putting us out of our collective misery.

1. Biel- No, not on her. Me no likey.
2. Olsen#1- I like this one. And I loved what the other one (not pictured) was wearing.
3. Shields- Egad! I screamed when I saw that make-up!I don't know what she's wearing, I had to look away.
4. Sims- Gag.
5. Dawson- Plain, yes. But considering what some of the others have on, she did well.
6. Beckinsale- Perfect for the occasion. Love it.
7. Moss- I have never seen her look this bad.
8. Crawford- It looks cheap, no?
9. Messter- What the ..?
I thought the print was cute and the bodice. The matching leggings/peg skirt give the illusion of drop crotch trousers, and that is not a good illusion to give..
10. Mendes- Cannot work it like Iman.
11. Alba- She is soo beautiful. She can wear anything. But this dress is ugly.
12. Schiffer- All I see is the hair. Not good.
13. I just threw up in my mouth a little.

can someone please give me that dress that claudia schiffer is wearing? pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

thanks :)

Mary Kate looks like a fancy street urchin from Les Miserables. Can't she do anything better with her hair? And what is up with all that black eyeliner? Whatever her "look" is, I just don't get it.

Brooke's makeup is way too harsh, she looks like a sad drag queen.

I know, isn't that gorgeous? I've been in love with that dress ever since TLo posted the whole spring 2009 collection. Gorgeous!

Right on, again, except that I find Mary Kate oddly perfect. Not so much Miss Havisham as "Les Miz -- Disney Edition." For her, wealthy waif is a look that works.

Kate Moss looks better than I have ever seen her. Claudia Schiffer, I give it up to you. Ever since you hooked up with that "illusionist" I thought you useless, but now I remember why you were famous.

Whatever, the skinny monkey Olsen is working it. LOVE. My favorite I've seen thus far.

I agree with you guys about poor Jessica Biel. She just doesn't have "it."

The Kates - Beckinsale, Moss, and Hudson - all look fab, as far as I'm concerned. And Claudia Schiffer is workin' it. Alba's dress looks like ass.

Leighton? Lose the horrible matching tights, take off some of the spackle, and you've got a great outfit.

The rest? Meh.

Does anyone else feel like we just hopped out of the Way Back Machine right smack in the middle of 1983?

Jessica Biel bores me, too.

Agree on Cindy Crawford. That is really not the best dress for her. And it looks cheap, like someone else posted. You'd think the models would know what looks good on them.

Kate Moss---I'm liking the whole deal. I didn't think I would, but yeah, I do.

Rosario, right, not the most exciting. Maybe it looked better in person? She looks happy and pretty radiant though. Hair, makeup and jewelry: thumbs up. Some of these other ladies should enlist Rosario's m/u artist.

Claudia----she needs to cut at least 8 inches of that bleached out, fried, blonde mess off and start over. Dress is fabulous, though.

I like Kate Hudson's dress. I think it really suits her. But Stella!!!! Are you kidding me?!?! She just looks ridiculous.

Molly Simms dress just has too much going on. Needs to be toned down, too much puffy sleeves, too much gold.

In the category of Lovely Dress, Boring Celebrity here are the nominees: Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsdale, Jessica Alba and Molly Sims. And the award goes to...Aw who cares? I need a nap from this fashion overload.
--Frances

Stella has either:
1. had work done OR
2. learned to apply make-up OR
3. lost weight OR
4. learned how to pose her face

OR any combination of the above. This is the first time I remember her looking pretty, and can see a bit of her mom in her.

I still hate her clothes.

biel: I want that dress!!!!!!!! oh... and I guess she looks pretty good in it too

olsen: come serving wench bring me another pint

brooke shields: you look like mimi from the drew carey show

molly sims: "solid gold!!!"

rosario: like it, safe but very pretty - very girl next door prom dress

kate: love it!!! abso-fuckin-gorgeous

kate moss: "solid gold!!!" actually I like it, you're right, very 70s Oscar

cindy: you know how all the teen movies have the popular slutty bitch who wears a ridiculous dress to prom and ends up getting the shit beat out of her by the sweet girl next door...

leighton meester: ok no, just no

eva mendes: see rosario dawson comment

jessica alba: ok so remember those teen movies - this is what the spunky younger sister of the male lead wears to prom

claudia: ya know I didn't even notice the hair because that dress is friggin gorgeous

Kate Hudson: "solid gold!!!!"

Stella: meh, not feeling it

Brooke's lips will give me nightmares tonight - I bet she has pointy clown-teeth inside..

TampaBay -- I found a slingback verson at Saks for a small fortune: http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/main/ProductDetail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524446216635&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=282574492703513&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474399545537&bmUID=1233930909141&ev19=1:40

Jessica Biel's dress is a prime example of a beautiful idea that can't translate to a real life dress. Once she sat in the car to get to the event, it was all over for that train. It looks like used wrapping paper, and the train was the whole point of that dress. What a shame.

If I were paying the money demanded by so many of these stylists, I would be pretty cranky to end up looking as bad as so many of these women do.

Thank you. Out of all the blogs covering this today, yours is by far and away the best.

Oh, Lord, I'm on fashion overload today, but in a GREAT way, thanks to you, TLo!

Love Kate in the Marchesa, but then, as I have stated before, I am a freak for grey!!!
The other Kate, Moss, that is, looks like she's been hitting the powder again. But I love the outfit.
Who the heck is Leighton Meester, and what is she doing in that piece of drapery left over from the remodeling of the Russian Tea Room?
Mary Kate Olsen: Night of the Living Dead
Brooke Shields: Day of the Living Dead
The rest, kinda Ok except for the "Collins" girls.

"Tlo said: Here it is. Enjoy!"

Hmmm...I like it. It reminds me of the, now sadly defunct, Lollipop building. It's a subtle, yet brash & witty, homage from one New World explorer to another. Or maybe from one optical illusion to another.

Either way, interesting choice.

--GothamTomato

@Bailey lmao at the Zoolander reference, had to cover the laugh with a cough to not disturb others in the lab.
The dress is wearing Biel, it's not the right one for her at all. The Olsen twin looks like she's in a fancified woman rising from the grave Halloween costume. Brooke's taking it back to Dynasty with that make-up and the dress is ust generally nice. The dress Molly Sims is wearing, I don't like it on her, it's kinda like Barbie dress up. Rosario's dress is nice, but agreement with the dull commentary. I've heard models are walking hangers and I never really saw it til on the model for the Marchesa gown, Kate Beckinsale is blowing her outta the water in that dress, it is FAB-U-LOUS! Kate moss looks like she stepped out of a Bond film, I can't get down with that dress. Cindy, Cindy, Cindy, *tsk tsk. Love the dress not the leggings on Messter, with them she looks like she escaped from the set of the Nutcracker. Eva looks nice, but that's it. I like Alba's look from the waist up. Love Claudia's look from the armpit down. I actually love both Kate and Stella's looks. Fin.

TLo, can we talk about the fact that the event was focused on models yet hardly any pictures of models are surfacing? It's mostly actors and celebutantes. :/

Call me crazy, but I actually liked MK's look. She's my favorite out of all the ones you've listed.

Shame this happened:

http://runway.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/05/04/alaia-pulls-his-dresses-from-the-met-gala/

It would've been fun to see more models represented from the 60s, 70s, 80s. Hell... there are still some superstars alive and kickin' from the 50s, no?

Something was a little off this season.

boys as usual this post is just BRILLIANT. LMFAO!

Actually... in looking at pictures from Getty, I'd be interested in your critiques of just the models. I mean, just look at Nadja Auermann here: http://cache2.asset-cache.net/xc/86383418.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF19374ECC42B7A3FA40DE81DE8F083FECADFE30A760B0D811297

She scares the hell out of me, but in a good way. ;)

Leighton Meester looks like an oompa loompa. Her hair and makeup is awful.

So I had to re-visit the Olsen look...and for me what doesn't work is the fact that she's swimming in it. If she had either been a foot taller, worn stilts, or had the dress altered so that there were three tiers of skirt like in the runway photo, then I think it would've been a much bigger success. Now I'm no seamstress (I knit, I don't sew, at least not well) so I'm not even sure if alteration of the skirts would've been a possibility, due to her height, the proportions of the dress, etc., but if it was possible, then I feel it should've been done.

formerlyAnon

TLo, thanks for the link to La Wintour.

News flash to several other of the ladies nearing [ahem] mumblety-um - if you are going to put in the work to discipline the aging body into extreme thinness - THIS is what you do with your hard-won lack of figure, if you care to be fabulous.

Can't people always requesting pictures of things just use Google? I found the pictures in about 10 seconds. It's not hard.

Gotham Tomato - Lollipop building > MAD by about 1,000 times. MAD is such an ugly building.

When I saw Kate Moss, I thought, "Statue of Liberty"!!! And poor Brooke - she is so beautiful, but she looks like a man, trying to be a woman, and not doing a good job of it. What is she thinking?

IMO, Claudia Schiffer just blew them all away at the Met Gala.

Brooke Shields - This had a smashing front view. Chop off the train and it would have been Second Best of Show.

Mary Kate Olsen - Bride of Dracula.

Brooke Shields - Good color, trying to be classic, but made her look thick in the middle.

Molly Simms - Gladiator Girl gets A+ for working the new metallic look so well.

Rosario Dawson - Bleh. Mummy Woman.

Kate Beckinsale - Top part totally fabulous. Bottom part looks like she's dragging three black bear pelts with her.

Kate Moss - A perfect ten.

Cindy Crawford - This dress had great promise until it was slit WAY Too high. Dyed to match shoes scream wedding. Black patent thin strappy things would have been better.

Leighton Meester - No. A thousand times No. Looks like a costume reject from "Shakespeare in Love" that makes you three times as hippy as you are. Just No.

Eva Mendez - WOWZERS. Something both tasteful and flattering! One point off for the for the flapper-style necklaces.

Jessica Alba - a miss. Cute, but more for the midnight disco. Points for the red bag with the cobalt blue skirt.

Claudia Schiffer - DAY-UM, GIRL. On a scale of 10, I give her a 35.

Kate Hudson - This rag makes her look shapeless, boobless, and hipless.

Stella McCartney - Ick. This looks like the Laura Bennett "older woman" look redux.

Jessica Biel will have no need for the "big shoulders" look this year. She's already too much linebacker for that gorgeous dress.

The Olsen troll doesn't have the height for that look she keeps trying to wear. It swallows her.

Brooke - oh honey, don't let Pennywise the Clown do your makeup anymore. He's evil.

Kate and Stella - Boring and Blech.

Beckinsale actually looked better than the model in the dress and you know that hardly ever happens.

Claudia's dress was lovely but you all are right about the hair. What is with the many, MANY women wearing that long, blah hair? For those over 25, you need a *real* hairstyle ladies. Where are your gays? They should tell you this.

Not wild about Nuclear Wintour's dress, at least not in that photo but thanks for posting that link to it. Maybe it looks better in another pic? Looks great on the model.

A thousand thanks, TLo, you are doing the best Met coverage of ANYONE.

Oops, sorry, the first nice comment on my list was for Jessica Biel, NOT Brooke Shields!

Mmm. Kate Beckinsale. She's the best out of both groups!

Wow, it looks like everybody decided to wear Versace. Jessica Biel's totally not doing justice to that dress.

Thank you for the FABULOUS post, bitches!!

TLo said...She looks fab. Very '70s Academy Awards from the waist up. Kate Moss

Actually the whole out fit looks 70s Academy Awards as Lauren Hutton wore an outfit almost identical Kate's in the ate 70s early 80s when she was a presenter at the Academy Awards. The only difference was that Lauren's turban was a different style.

TampaBay

God, Stella looks horrible. I. HATE. LACE.

bitchybitchybitchy

"It's Jackie and Joan Collins: the sequel. Yawn."

Damn, but you bitches are good!

Kate Beckinsale looks so fabulous in that gown.

I'm liking Claudi Schiffer in the Atelier Versace much, much more than Jessica Biel in Atelier Versace.

Brooke Shields' make-up...good God, did they think she was going to a premiere of a vampire movie?

Claudia's Versace dress is In.Sane.

I love it! I agree - she should have had her hair/straw up.

"Can't people always requesting pictures of things just use Google? I found the pictures in about 10 seconds. It's not hard."

But, staticCling - there is no TLo commentary to go with it. It just doesn't count....like the tree in the woods.....

TLo - Part III please!

Work? You mean they're not paying me to do this?

Ahem.

Jessica Biel: she stuck a big ol' train on her corset

Mary Pat Olsen: who never drinks . . . wine

Brooke Shields: oy, the hair, the makeup, my eyes hurt! The dress is very blah, despite the bright color.

Molly Sims: yes, cute dress! But I am afraid it's a bit too young for her.

Rosario Dawson: I like this dress very much. Sure, it's not over the top, but it's beautifully designed, fits her like a glove and the color is very good on her.

Kate Beckinsale: zowie!!! It looks so much better on her than on the model, too. It hugs her curves, while it just hangs on the model (who probably has no curves)

Kate Moss: you know, I really think this would look better if it were long. The fabric is gorgeous, and I feel as though there would be a flow and movement to it in a long dress that isn't there in the short. I love the cut of the top and back!

Cindy Crawford: nah

Leighton Meeter: oh, dear, no

Eva Mendes: pretty but blah

Jessica Alba: pretty but prom, and get rid of those black stockings!

Claudia Schiffer: it's gorgeous, I mostly love it on her, but will someone please tell me what is with these ill-fitting bodices? Yes, you have nice boobs. No, they should not be falling out of your dress.

Kate Hudson and Stella McCartney: you said it all.

"Jessica Alba in Jason Wu"

Could always be worse. It could've been on Shelley O.

BTW, I think that's the best dress I've seen from him, yet.

The thing on Kate Moss' head reminded me of when they had the 'mermaid swimmers' on The Love Boat.

Miss Heather

I think Cindy C. may actually be wearing dyed-to-match shoes.

What I kept thinking, tho, as I read through these two (delicious) posts, is that the theme of this event was meant to be "model as muse." So we get Brooke Shields in "sad drag queen" (as accurately described above) makeup? Jessica Alba in an 80s prom dress?

I know times are tough - and museums especially are hurting for money (I believe this event is a fundraiser for the Met) - but I would have loved to have seen more REAL models who were REAL muses, and/or models wearing nonhideous dresses. Or maybe they were there, but the press didn't feel a need to photograph them.

Great job, TLo! I'm exhausted just looking at all of that work. The red Atelier Versace is gorgeous. When did Kate Hudson become so tacky? She's like her mother. She has no taste in clothes.

If you do an editorial image search for "Costume Institute" on http://www.gettyimages.com/, you can see more pictures of actual models. Some of them a pretty freakin' fabulous. Unfortunately, the media didn't find them as exciting as Madonna's bunny ears or Biel's voluminous skirt. :(

Commentary? They said "Here you go. Enjoy!" What a thrilling experience to miss for being Internet-savvy and self-sufficient.

StaticCling,

I wrote that comment and it was not meant in a mean way at all.

I think TLo wrote a little more than "enjoy"...they don't have to say much to make a point - and make me laugh.

Do grow up.

Boring Jessica #1- doesn't have a quarter of the personality required to pull off a dress of that ilk. She just looks uncomfortable. And it makes ME uncomfortable.

Mary-Kate- although I hate what she wears about 98% of the time, I think she looks kind of awesome here.

Brooke- looking past the horrific makeup (if you can), the dress is really just dull, and kind of unflattering.

Molly- she's pretty, sure, but she makes an interesting dress look dead boring. I love it on the model, although I don't really like the lines of that skirt. Sims should've kept the black stockings.

Rosario- great color on her, but definitely dull, and makes her look kind of... wide?

Kate- jesus christ, that dress must have been a pain in the ass. She's pulling it off though--Biel should take notes. It looks TERRIBLE on the model.

Kate- I'm having trouble with the head thing, especially with all the shiny shit she's got on her face. But I suppose for the event, it's pretty fab.

Cindy- Tacky! Ugly! Titscrepancy! Is she wearing a bulletproof vest under there? Or, like, a chastity belt? What is that weirdness around her abdomen?? On the plus side, I know 19-year-olds that look older than she does.

Leighton- needs a few lessons in INTERPRETING the runway rather than copying it. That dress is cute. The leggings are horrible. HORRIBLE. As are the shoes. Also, red lipstick was the wrong choice for the outfit. Also, I like her hairstyle, but she looked better as a brunette.

Eva- bores me, no matter what she does.

Boring Jessica #2- one word: tacky.

Claudia- that dress is so fucking fabulous and looks so great on her that I don't even care about the bad hair.

Kate- I secretly kind of like it.

Stella- um, what?

That Kristen McMenamy is such a fabulous freak. Is she wearing a waist length grey wig? That a girl!

And re: Claudia straw-head, perhaps she fears no one would recognize her without the mane? Too bad, because the dress is so gorgeous.

Sorry I offended you, I wasn't referring to TLo at all- I was referring to coverage from other pop culture sites and news media. On other sites it's like all anyone could talk about were the bunny ears or how hot Gisele and Tom Brady were. I guess I don't think of TLo as "media" - I think of them as something much more fabulous!

I'm happy our guys covered the event at least a little bit, though it would be amazing if they did a Part 3. Thanks for your work Tom and Lorenzo!

Jessica's overdone the tanning. She’s looking like The Duchess.

Fabulous posts, guys! I keep coming back to it (and still can't get over what Madonna wore). I know many people have said that already but it's so nice to have the runway look in the post. Kisses : )

Guys, I think that's Ashley, not Mary-Kate. Mary-Kate wore a gigantic white trash-bag (er, dress) as usual.

Gods, I hate that I a) think I can tell them apart and b) have an opinion about which one generally has the better fashion sense (Ashley).

I think the reason the red dress doesn't work on Ms. Biel is that she's got too much of a practical presence. It's such a statement of a dress that it wants to wear the wearer, not be worn. It almost requires, er, frailty, perhaps?

I'd like to see lovely Rosario Dawson in the dress Molly Sims wore, and sultry Eva Mendes in the Jessica Biel dress. The colors would look great on those girls. Jessica is just not one for the big pose--she would so lose those Benny Ninja contests on ANTM. Kate would win!

I think Leighton Meester looks very cute, and the Olson (whichever one) kind of has a punk milkmaid look going.

If the Met isn't the place to wear something edgy and take a chance, where can you?

Stella you look short and like a cheerleader parading around in Suzie-Wong-world lace. Wrong. (This is cruel, but your dad's ex-wife wore a much photographed lace dress of a similar mode in N.Y. early in their 'ship that was killer on her and made her figure look sublime. Your low-slung chest (everybody's idea of fashion these days) ages you and makes you look much wider. Your cupie doll ankles and shoes are noted, esp. demure on a 12 year old, looks dated on you, too precious. Your friend's Goldie dress does work, however; her hip shot says I am ass and the world is not shaken by it. These girls REALLY want to look a decade or more older than they are. Why?

Omigod, and believe me, I know she doesn't care what we think, Cindy ruled for so long, NEVER do that again Cindy. Hurt yourself over a dress like THAT. Shiny, ugly and cut wrong for you, you look hefty and a bit dumpy in it. That frankenstein stitches detail over the hip - OW. I guess you really do need help from a competent sytylist, now more than ever. Cindy's makeup in plastered on with a trowel, also, giving her the TLo noted "mortician" look, ala Brooke in the foregoing pic.

Brooke, just say "no". Your god given looks are enough to rule the carpet; this was not a toothpaste commercial. Subtelty counts. As the nice men say, better makeup next time, please. And perhaps try some of that glossy hair up to seem a little more elegant? FOr all the effort that I know you put in, it is a really bad result.

The Kates win. Moss and Beckinsale. Fabulous in two very different ways. I applaud Leighton Meester for trying something different. At least she didn't whip out some boring same-old, same-old.

Dang that's a lot of fug. Leighton was the closet thing to a "In". If only she had dumped the tights.
Hate to say it but Cindy Crawford looked like she bought her dress off the unused bridesmaid's $99 sale rack at David's Bridal.

Jessica Biel - I loved the presentation look. It is a let down on the red carpet.

Mary-Kate Olsen - I was geared up to dislike it, but it actually works. In fact it is one of the better Lacroix looks that I have seen on the red carpet. When think about it, it makes sense - MK looks similar to those alienesque dolls that Lacroix favors to walk in his creations.

Brooke Shields - Other than the makeup she looks good.

Molly Sims - I am not crazy about it, but kudos for not being safe.

Rosario Dawson - Alright.

Kate Beckinsale - I thought that the presentation look was one of the ugliest things ever made, but Beckinsale made it palatable.

Kate Moss - In general, I don't want to like anything associated with Kate Moss, but I keep having to grudgingly admit that she turns it out. Also I think that Kate Moss along with Gisele are the only two present day super models.

Cindy Crawford - This is what Heidi planned to wear before she found out she was pregnant.

Leighton Meester - The leggings don't work on the red carpet look.

Eva Mendes - Alright.

Jessica Alba - The dress is OK. I like the earrings. Nice hair, makeup and smile.

Claudia Schiffer - No.

Kate Hudson - Alright.

Stella McCartney - I like it.

"Jesus Christ, Brooke. Who did your makeup, a mortician?"

Yes, after they wrapped her up in a sheet.

I guess CindyC is trying to compete with the 16 year olds her husband likes to proposition.

Cindy doesn't look good at all comparing to the other models. I never liked her as a model. I always thought she was too generic looking.

God, I hate Stella McCartney. I find her most annoying and incredibly overrated.

Haven't been here in a while. Almost didn't recognize the place. Fab!

Nah, too generic.

Kate Moss and Mary-Kate Olsen always hit the mark because they, like Nancy Regan and Nan Kemper, have a defined style with a distinctive point of view.

Kate and Mary-Kate wear their clothes, their clothes do not wear them.

TampaBay

Kate Beckinsdale looks stunning! Love her dress!

Kate Moss looks like hooker.

Molly Simms's dress looks like something Carmem Webber would've designed.

Of course Kate Moss looks like a hooker...she always does but that is part of her style...a high priced stylish European hooker and rock groupie.

No, this IS Mary-Kate, although I was kinda fooled too, because Ashley is the prettier one and Mary-Kate doesn't usually look this good. Ashley wore the somewhat baggy white Grecian-inspired gown. I had to check other websites to be sure. Once you see the pictures of "the other one" you can tell who is who haha.

OMG-- you mean it was Stella McCartney's lace-clad caboose we were seeing in earlier Met-Gala photos?

More Fab MET pictures of other celebrities and models were shown at Boston.com: http://www.boston.com/ae/celebrity/gallery/metgala2009/

Dumb question: from a practical standpoint, how did Jessica Biel & Kate Beckinsdale maneuver a "gala" in the long-trained dresses they wore? One wonders if the trains were covered in shoe prints, cigarette butts, and spilled drinks by night's end...

(I guess if you need pose the question, you're just NOT gala material.)

Hate that dress on Biel. She doesn't have the right look for it.

I wish Mary-Kate would stop dressing like Miss Havisham.

I actually really like Rosario Dawson's dress. She looks cute and comfortable and like she's not trying too hard.

Hate all the 80s prom dress crap. Just tacky.

Kate Moss : the model version of jumping the shark. She looks like a model playing an actress much younger than herself in a 70s TV show.

As pretty as Kate Hudson is, she just ain't got the curves to pull that dress off. Sorry.

Note to Madonna - let Kate Moss show you how to wear a unique head piece!

Claudia's dress made me gasp it was so beautiful. Too bad her hair looked like a used mop.

Let's start the show again:

Love Love Love:
Kate Beckinsale, bitch looks amazing!
Claudia Schiffer, stunning, she knows how to pull off a dress. Clap Clap Claudia
Kate Moss, thank God you left drugs behind, you look gorgeous!
The Collins Sisters: ladies, it's your night!

So So looks:
Jessica Biel, even though that's a breathtaking dress, you girl have a long way to go to know how to wear it. But I like you are trying :)
Rosario Dawson, a bland dress hon'
Brooke Shields, I put you in this category only because of your make-up, what's that?
Cindy Crawford, y'know... Wonder Woman called, she wants her cape back...
Eva Mendes... bland dress
Jessica Alba... bland dress, you're already a mother, wear something longer!

WTF looks:

Mary Kate Olsen... honey, how's your blood pressure? You look really pale in that dress.
Molly Sims that's a dress for a B movie premiere... wtf?
Leighton Meester, what's that you're wearing??

If I ever become famous, I am making you two my fashion consultants.
You are both fabulous.
