Darlings, this list couldn't have been any easier to put together. We didn't even have to review the collections to come up with our picks. Within about 5 minutes, we had come up with 10+ looks and then it took another 5 minutes to put them in order.
Before anyone asks, we will not be doing a bottom ten for Bryant Park. Even though we could easily come up with a list, that strikes us as a little cruel. The BP collections represent months of hard work for someone hoping for their big break. It's bad enough for them that they didn't win; it would just be mean to put their work on a "Worst 10" list. Of course we ARE going to do a bottom ten competition list, because we have to do SOMETHING to retain our bitch cred.
Anyway, on with the show. We think you're going to be a little surprised with some of our picks.
Number 10: Kara Janx

One of the tragedies of Season 2 was that Kara Janx made it to Bryant Park with a collection that almost certainly could have won, except she was there as a decoy, meaning she was ineligible. This gorgeous teal and bronze gown was, if you can believe it, her surprise 13th look, the one the producers sprung on the designers at the very last minute. We absolutely love the colors on this dress. It flows and moves beautifully and the fit is perfection.
Number 9: Jillian Lewis

We went against the grain when it came to picking the winner for Season 4. It seemed like almost everyone came down in either the Rami or the Christian camp, but we were alone out in the wilderness, yelling "Jillian! Jillian! Jillian!" Alas, no one heard us. In a collection of very wearable, but stylish separates, this look stood out the most to us. That skirt is gorgeous and beautifully executed. The top is very basic, but that only serves the look better as it allows that beautiful scarf and quirky hat to top off the look dramatically.
Number 8: Chloe Dao

We were, again, out in the wilderness when it came to Chloe's finale collection. It seemed like almost no one liked her statement-making looks and the most common complaint seemed to be "It looked like upholstery." Maybe for some of the others, but this sleek, beautifully fitted gown (with some slight issues in the seams) in "Chloe Blue" was elegant and, once she turned around, sexy and dramatic. It may just have been the look that made the judges' decision for them.

I love numbers 10 and 9, especially number 10. I have never seen it before, and I love it!! I hate number 8! I like the back, but that satin, 1980s bridesmaid material just gives me very bad flashbacks, plus the color - blech.
Can't wait to see the rest.
3/3/09, 10:38 AM
The Kara and Jillian would have been above the Chloe for me, but I agree they belong.
3/3/09, 10:54 AM
oh my god I love Kara's. It moves so beautifully. I. WANT. IT.
3/3/09, 10:55 AM
I love them all, especially number 9. That scarf is GORGEOUS, the look is fierce.
3/3/09, 10:59 AM
Tlo said: we were alone out in the wilderness, yelling "Jillian! Jillian! Jillian!""
You weren't alone. I was yelling for Jillian as well. She had the best eye for what working women will buy, and I think her collection came closest to the finale collection that is the gold standard: Jay's.
As for Top 10 picks, I would have actually chosen the coat that came before this, that is in the background of the photo. Gorgeous.

You weren't the only ones hoping that Jillian would win...For whatever reason, I remain (over all) somewhat non-plussed by Christian's designs.
And Kara's gown still makes me sigh, it's so lovely.
3/3/09, 11:02 AM
Let me guess...you can't do a Bottom 10 list because all 10 looks were Suede's, right? lol
10. Kara's dress is beautiful! That whole collection was. I agree, such a shame she was a decoy...I didn't like any of the other season 2 collections that much. (If she was already disqualified, why did she have to do a surprise 13th look? They still forced her to do a CHALLENGE after she'd been elimindated? That's kind of shitty.)
9. No! You weren't alone! I soooo wanted Jillian to win. This was not my fave look from her collection but it does make a statement.
8. Gorgeous. I've always loved this dress, and the fact that Grace is about 8 feet tall makes it so dramatic (although I thought this was one of the very few good looks Chloe's final collection had).
9.

If only Santino had been auf'd when he should have been (and there were several glaring times when they should have), Kara would have been where she should have been.

Excellent choices!! Kara's gown is absolutely gorgeous. And I love the headpiece and styling on the model. Perfection!
While I also love Jillian's design, I have always detested that hat. Ick.
As for Chloe's gown, the execution and fit are spot on, and the back detailing is wonderful. And it didn't hurt to have Grace model the gown, she worked the hell out of it!!
TLo, you guys are simply the best, and though you deserve a rest, you make every day special!!!
3/3/09, 11:15 AM
Kara really knocked it out of the park with her collection and it's a damn shame it was the decoy. And you're right, this is probably the most beautiful piece in it.
3/3/09, 11:26 AM
Gotham Tomato, I'm with you. Jillian was a winner, and that grey coat with the red belt made me drool.
As to TLo's other picks, I agree with the Kara Janx pick but I just didn't love Chloe Dao's collection. Maybe it was lots better in person. It left me unmoved.
Looking forward to the rest!
3/3/09, 11:31 AM
Fabulous start, boys! Although I wish you'd do a "Worst" list...just the bitch in me.
3/3/09, 11:39 AM
I was definitely with you in the Jillian camp, but I don't think that particular look would have made my top ten.
The Chloe gown is probably my number 1 favorite of all time, although I'm not wild about the under-the-butt seams on the back.
3/3/09, 11:44 AM
Total agreement on Chloe's look. Oddly I didn't recall Kara's, but you are indubitably right.
Jillian needs to be in the top ten, but I felt like this look was the accessories - scarf, hat & belt. And she did so many stunning actual garments, that that bothered me. But I went back to the finale photos and you know, none of the stunners I remember were in that show.
3/3/09, 12:04 PM
I'm actually surprised that this outfit, out of Jillian's whole collection made the all-time top 10 list. It's beautiful, but the skirt has been done before. This was more styling than design, in my opinion. She had some other pieces that I would have chosen over this one, but - it's your list!
I do agree with the other choices, though. Kara's work during the season seemed kind of mediocre - not good enough to win the challenge, but not bad enough to be auf'd, but her finale collection was amazing and finally showed her talent.
Out of Chloe's entire collection, this was my favorite. It wasn't heavy and overdone like some of her other looks were.
3/3/09, 12:05 PM
I love that dress of Kara's. As I recall Kara's whole collection was rather Jillian-like in the sense of being very wearable and having a very youthful, very personal pov.
I also loved many of Jillian's final looks--those knits! We part ways with Chloe. I didn't like the heavy, shiny fabrics and all the seams, though I think it's probably very right for her customer.
3/3/09, 12:14 PM
I had forgotten Kara's gown - I love it!
3/3/09, 12:18 PM
All great choices. I'm glad you decided to honor Kara even though she was a decoy collection. I have no idea what I would pick for a bryant park top 10... but I liked all those three looks.
I don't think that was my favorite piece of Jillian's. There were some coats that I really loved.
I wanted Christian to win, but I was surprised that Jillian was 3rd... I thought it was between Jillian and christian after I saw the collections.
3/3/09, 12:20 PM
I figure one of your choices will surprise, but certainly not those three! Loved them!
3/3/09, 12:21 PM
The Chloe dress looks messy and ill-constructed. The color's beautiful though and the cut is eye-catching.
But I'm with y'all on the Jillian bandwagon. Christian's annoying, but more than that, his clothes look to ME like he's sucked all the FUN and DECADENCE out of the 80s and stuck 'em on sticks.
3/3/09, 12:43 PM
Good choices!
Here are mine:
10. Jeffery Sebilla- Boy he had some real dogs in that collection, but I'm calling the striped showstopper my 10th best look. It was memorable if nothing else. Speaking of spin class though, was he on his way to one?
9. Kenley Collins feather wedding dress. I know everybody thinks she copied it, but I don't care if she was looking right at that McQueen dress when she made it. It's still a great dress. She is really very talented. Her clothes , even for the challenges for the most part, looked like human hands never touched them. I also liked the slim black dress with a feather neckline.
8. Chloe- I agree with you about her show stopper dress. She took a lot of heat about the fabric. Sometimes fabric with a very firm had is what is appropriate for the design. Silk and wool is a very intriging mix, to me anyway. I also liked the printed halter style dress with very full sleeves and her 13th look. Her skill at seam manipulation is what really sets her appart.
3/3/09, 12:51 PM
I love love love Kara Janx's dress! Beautiful colours, great fit - I would wear this anytime.
Jillian and Chloe don't do much for me. I happen to think Chloes dress is very boring.
3/3/09, 12:55 PM
Interesting that these three looks are all from women who made their mark on the show creating woman-friendly clothes where fit and understated style looked easy.
Only one missing from this club is Uli.
3/3/09, 1:03 PM
Totally agree with you on Chloe. These are great choices--I'm really glad you're considering decoy collections in your top ten.
3/3/09, 1:15 PM
Great list so far! I'm pretty sure the remaining seven looks will include Laura's final gown worn by Camilla (such a stunner) and Leanne's wedding gown as modeled by Hollis (also very stunning).
But I hope you also considered Uli's strapless silver dress worn by the most gorgeous model ever to grace a Project Runway finale (who is she?), any of Kara Saun's aviatrix outfits, Jay's first look, Jeffrey's final piece, Jillian's black dress worn by Jaslene, any of Rami's last two gowns, any of Christian's last two dresses, and even Daniel Vosovic's 13th look.
Great topic!
3/3/09, 1:17 PM
I, too, really liked Jillian's aesthetic...but that look Really? I think I had that skirt in 1984 AND bought that scarf from a street vendor in SoHo.
But Kara's whole collection remains my favorite, so I'm with you there.
3/3/09, 1:25 PM
Kara's collection was stunning and I agree.
Jillian's was boring to me, but this was one of the better looks.
The Chloe dress deserves to go higher, IMO. That is a stunner of a dress & the color - OMG! Of course, the fabulous Grace is one of the reasons it stood out.
3/3/09, 1:50 PM
I'm already guessing that Judy Noodle's wedding dress is going to be high on the list.
3/3/09, 2:02 PM
I loved Chloe's entire collection as well. Hated Daniel's and Santino's was so poorly fitted. I loved the seams she used. The back of this dress is so stunning.
3/3/09, 2:27 PM
Love those choices! I think Kara's collection was one the best collections ever presented.
3/3/09, 2:40 PM
I LOVED kara's collection, there were so many looks that I coveted. That copper and teal dress was the one I would have killed for :)
Jillians collection was ok for me, that year was a bad one in terms of a clear winner. The look you picked was a surprise. I like it, but it doesn't send me into a jealouse rage that I don't own it.
I remember when that Chloe dress came down the runway. It was such a stunner. I loved the dress but it certainly took tall red headed Grace to do it justice. It was so well executed and I really liked the cut outs and seaming.
3/3/09, 3:13 PM
Love #10 & #8, and I like #9. Nothing really to pick at, so I'm anxious to see the rest of the list.
3/3/09, 4:45 PM
"we will not be doing a bottom ten for Bryant Park. [omitted] . . . that strikes us a little cruel. The BP collections represent months of hard work for someone hoping for their big break. It's bad enough for them that they didn't win; it would just be mean to put their work on a "Worst 10" list."
I was going to comment on this earlier, changed my mind, and now have changed it back after enduring a meeting with fairly successful people who, "just had no raisin'" as you still hear said in the south when boorish, uncouth and unkind behavior is on view. THIS is why your particular brand of snark is so popular and, in Internet terms, enduring. You are gentlemen who do not forget that there are real people behind the media presentation of reality t.v folk & show business celebrity.
O.k., gramma will get down off the soap box.
3/3/09, 4:49 PM
(Sorry for the accidental double post.)
3/3/09, 4:51 PM
Aw, this is so much fun, TLo! Thanks for doing this.
Perfect choices and I wonder if you'll pick another Jillian further up this list.
Amazing Grace. How's she doing? What's she doing? Have you heard anything? I luv her.
3/3/09, 6:26 PM
A great start to a promising list... but if I dont see Uli's yellow bikini in numbers 1-7, I will be raising a ruckus.
(also want to see Jeffery's last two looks, Jay's blue sweater, Wendy's see-through top, Santino's final look, Laura's final look, and, uh... ... ... I guess seasons 1-3 really were the best.)
3/3/09, 6:33 PM
Jillian Lewis would have been the winner of last season had she been with that group.
3/3/09, 7:22 PM
I love all three of these looks but I would have gone in the reverse order: with kara's first, followed by Jillian's (I liked hers AND Rami's collection more than puffysleeves) and then Chloe's as #10
3/3/09, 8:25 PM
Kara was ROBBED! oh, I miss saying that : ) but it is true, her collection was gorgeous.
3/3/09, 8:27 PM
Chloe's gown is beautiful! Isn't that the one they had displayed at the Smithsonian?
3/3/09, 8:28 PM
YAY! I love these posts! Love, like, love.
3/3/09, 10:02 PM
Wow, Kara would have been my third or fourth — but I agree with the others.
3/4/09, 9:17 AM
Chloe's dress has finally grown on me. The back makes it.
It's that kind of dress that you could see Tilda Swinton or Cate Blanchett in on the red carpet.
3/4/09, 9:26 AM
I'm going to dare to guess about others who may make it: the lace dress by Rami, the blue outfit by Jay, Leanne's wedding dress, Laura's final look (the jeweled gown with the yellow belt), Uli's bathing suit. Otherwise I'm totally in the dark and excited to see the rest.
3/4/09, 4:46 PM
The Chloe dress is so amazing. I wish someone would this on the red carpet!
3/4/09, 10:21 PM
Kara's is one of those rare dresses that flatters a multitude of potential wearers. As a "woman of a certain age" with the ravages of three babies and 40 years of dissolute evenings of booze and fatty food...even I'd feel pretty in that! It hugs the body in the parts that are usually slender and flows away in the parts that tend to pooch...all while showcasing an innovative colour scheme and fluid fabric drape. My only quibble is that of these three, this should have been number 8, not number 10!
3/7/09, 2:24 AM
I was rooting for Jillian too - because she actually thinks about what women can and will wear, and designs for real bodies, not just models. I loved her collection!
