YESSSSS!!! I saw these! I am so glad you said something about them. Heart SJP, but these are just total butt. I'm sorry, they're the worst things I've ever seen, and if she's going to go all affected fashionista on us, one would hope she would have put a modicum of effort into the rest of her appearance, which, of course, she didn't. Big thumbs down.

Those are HIDEOUS!!! I don't care how fashion-forward, trendy or whatever they are. THEY. ARE. HIDEOUS.

The only other person I have ever seen wear them was one of m architecture professors 3 years ago. She screamed "crazy" with some of her outfits, and her athletic camel toe shoes were one of our favorites! She is also the prof who decided to email her whole studio a picture of her new born baby, while breast feeding, including nipple. That was more than a little awkward. I don't have a fond memory of these shoes.

It's not just that those shoes are ugly, it's that they're repulsive. I don't know what it is that about them that disgusts me so much, but something does.

I kind of get it if you look at the shoes as if it is a piece of art, and it makes a statement, however, looking at them as if they were just shoes, I just dont like it,. I am a shoe FREAK and I think these are horrible, these shoes make the wearer seem like they were born with some horrible birth defect

She was never a fashion icon. Carrie Bradshaw (and, by the transitive property, Patricia Field) was, and SJP just desperately tried to keep up on the red carpet, with varying degrees of success. SJP has a lot of varying quotes out there, saying she's not that into fashion then saying she is...I think she feels like she's forced to be what everyone expects from her. I think these shoes are the final proof anyone needs to see that she can't.

Although I don't really like them in their shoe format, these are based off traditional Japanese socks so I don't quite see what's so "horrifying" about it.

I'm so amused by the reactions these get. I mean, they're odd and all, but repulsive? How is a split toe box more horrifying than a 5 inch heel that hobbles the wearer?

i would like to see what dirty jokes Samantha Jones would come up with regarding these beasts. also, i would like to see someone burn them. SJP, i cannot abide by these. awful. when everyone is calling you horseface to begin with, which isn't true, perpetuating that visual is just kind of asking for it. but perhaps that's the point?

ok, i've seen Nike sneakers with that camel-toe design, but these boots are horrible... and also, what's up with those rolled-up jeans? it makes it even worse!

Some people need to broaden their cultural horizons. (That said, they don't translate well to boots!)

These look like, well, camel toes. I'm not sure how making your feet look like little crotch-hooves is supposed to be flattering.

At least with the Japanese socks, they are clingy enough you can tell there are feet inside them. They still look like socks. (Plus the split in the socks serves a practical function.) When you put the toe split in a leather shoe and in the middle of the foot... not so much. Blech.

The tabi may have never been meant to become a boot, but it's an interesting idea. I've worn shoes with a split toe, and I think tabi socks are by far the most comfortable.

It's interesting that they're bringing that split toe comfort into a boot. I like it. I like the look, and I'll bet you bucks that chick is comfortable right now.

I'll admit that it'd be more interesting if it wasn't such a bulky/clunkin' look, but I think this boot is going to spawn some mighty hot looking children.

And, honestly? These shoes have barely ONE THING in common with tabi. The dislike for them is not culturally insensitive, for crying out loud, there is no discernible Japanese aesthetic, here. Just ugly shoes.

Oh GOD people...as Le Kors (and Santino) said so well in PR season 2: "Lighten up, it's just fashion!" LOL

Japanese construction workers, house painters and gardeners wear these kind of shoes, sans the heel. The soles are usually made of rubber and good for gripping and climbing. The uniform trousers that often accompany them are snug at the waist and ankle and huge and balloon like through the legs, usually in colors like mint green, eggplant or khaki.

That said, I doubt SJP is up to any kind of Japanese home renovations!

These *are* pretty disappointing boots. However, the tabi boots I fell in love with about five years ago were another matter... dark red, fairly structured, a more aesthetically pleasing heel and nicer pitch - these are the poor cousin. Unfortunately, I've no idea what the boots were, as they were seen on the feet of a woman walking between a department store and her car.

Does anyone else wonder what kind of socks work with these? Because there's a possibility that the only socks that work are TOE SOCKS, and that, my friends, makes this a double whammy!

It is slightly entertaining to hear from people commenting on high fashion when they don't seem to know much about high fashion to begin with.

Personally I love that she wore them and clearly didn't seem to worry about what anyone would think. As for the shoes, they're conceptual, they're extremely well known shoes within the industry by an extremely well respected designer, and they're not the norm. Besides, I really don't see what's so bad about them. Yeah, they're unusual, even a little bizarre looking, but why is that a bad thing?

So while the consensus seems to be that she's terribly un-stylish for wearing them, the truth is that she's more stylish than people are giving her credit for precisely because she wore them.
