Here she is at the 35th Annual People's Choice Awards last night wearing Donna Karan.
Her gays need a brisk shaking and a good talkin-to because lately, the girl is walking around town in some very drab colors. Ladies with her coloring look best in rich tones, not drab grays and browns.
Besides, this dress just looks like a sloppy mess. We know we praised Posh's recent hip-enhancing D&G dress, but that doesn't mean we always love the silhouette. We certainly don't love it here.
The makeup looks great, though. As do the accessories. Love the jewelry and bag but we're only so-so on the shoes.
But what's up with the frizzy hair? Not good. Sorry, Grace but you're OUT on this one.

I agree. She's out if only for the shoes. But the lack of color is so disappointing. She's such a vivaciouslyl beautiful woman. It a shame to dress her in gunmetal gray. Ick.
1/8/09, 10:48 AM
I think the color looks great on her. I am a huge fan of bright colors, but sometimes subtelty is nice as well. The fabric is textured and the color seems rich...it looks fine.
The dress itself, however, is not good. It almost sorta works, but doesn't quite. And I hate that she paired it with warm accessories like the gold earrings and tan bag and shoes. It looks terrible.
Hair - boring and unpolished. Simple styles should look flawless. Makeup - too harsh, as always. We all know you're not 24 anymore, Debra. Why haven't you gotten the memo?
1/8/09, 10:50 AM
... and it looks like there are some serious fitting problems at the waist, judjing by the 2nd pic...
1/8/09, 10:59 AM
I thought it was a close thing - her glow is fabulous and I like the color on her (maybe I just like the color, but I think it allows her to "glow" in contrast). Might have tipped my vote despite the cut of the skirt. But dislike the shoes, their color a choice that can only be explained as an attempt to elongate the line of her legs?????? Maybe? But even so, wood-grain platform soles are WRONG and feel too casual to pair with the dress.
1/8/09, 11:04 AM
You're " only so-so on the shoes"??? Don't you mean shows?! Yeah, I thought so.
1/8/09, 11:05 AM
The dress is dragging her bosom down. No!
1/8/09, 11:11 AM
Looks like she threw it together at the last minute. Maybe a bunion was hurting and she grabbed the most comfortable shoes she has. LOL!!!
Really. Far. Out.

I like the sculptural quality of the dress. the way the back wraps around to form the front peplum is very interesting. It's not 100% figure flattering, but if everybody walked around in little black dresses with the skirts cut in a flattering modified A line, it would be pretty boring.
The shoes are fine on their own, but camel suede with a gunmetal cocktail outfit? Really?
The shoes being a huge mistake, I would still call it an IN, but someone with her income shouldn't be making mistakes like that.
1/8/09, 11:12 AM
Debra Messing is gorgeous, but this dress is just wrong. She definitely needs some new gays!
Are you two available, TLo?
1/8/09, 11:12 AM
From the side views she looks like a drag queen with a humongous erection. Ewww. And Out.
1/8/09, 11:13 AM
In the latest episode of, 'Debra Messing: Fashion Victim', we have replaced our heroine's latest Big Name Designer red carpet dress, with one designed by Claude, head waiter/origami napkin folder at LeCirque.
Let's see if anyone notices...

Me thinks the USA Network is not paying her enough!
1/8/09, 11:18 AM
... and no one is commenting on the enhanced butt crack back?
Sorry for being rude.
1/8/09, 11:20 AM
The dress looks too big, or wide, on her. The front is too low; if she had breasts, they would fall out.
1/8/09, 11:21 AM
O.U.T. Out!
I hate disagree with TLo - but the makeup does not look great to me - it is too severe. It is aging her.
1/8/09, 11:24 AM
"Tlo said: Her gays need a brisk shaking and a good talkin-to because lately, the girl is walking around town in some very drab colors."
I'm starting to think her gays might actually be closeted straights.

I once knew this really skeezy crankwhore in Fresno. I mean, she was just really sloppy and disgusting - one tit hanging out of her 80's teal tube top, front teeth missing, ratty dishwater blonde hair - the works. So anyway, he name was Donna and she always had these big, bright red circles on her cheek. She worse so much rouge she looked like the fuckin' Nutcracker! I mean, she was really ridiculous and really, really skanky. Like, she'd lick your taint for a bowl of Cap'N Crunch, that's how skanky she was. Anyway, aside from the blush overkill, she always wore mauve shit, and it just looked TERRIBLE. Mauve shoes, opaque mauve hose (sometimes metallic! ewwww!), Bonne Bell mauve lip gloss....mauve everything. She probably even had a mauve vagina. Anyway, my point is, crankwhore Donna, with her metallic mauve hose, spray-painted cheeks, rotted teeth and knock-you-off-your-heels halitosis looked better than Debra Messing does here. If you were on a hit TV show for like, 10 seasons, one would hope you could manage to look better than a North Cali gutter ho who gives handjobs in the dumpster behind Denny's for a pack of Capris. One would hope...
1/8/09, 11:24 AM
I know, I keep saying I'm totally not a Debra Messing fan, but she had a couple of good points here.
Like the makeup, not the hair. Like the shoes, but not at all with that dress, and really don't like that dress on her.
The accessories weregood, but I agree with your assessment of the drab colors lately. Either she's depressed or her gays are.
1/8/09, 11:25 AM
The shoe color doesn't go with the dress but I notice they do match the bag. Both colors, however are drabby especially on her.
I love that she's always so daring in her choices but this ones a miss.
1/8/09, 11:26 AM
GT - first laugh out loud for the day!
Visuals of "Claude" folding away are dancing in my head.
1/8/09, 11:31 AM
i disagree, TLo, i think that color is fantastic on her. i think it's very classy.
1/8/09, 11:36 AM
WTH? It looks like she is giving birth to a gray fabric monster.
1/8/09, 11:48 AM
I like her styling. Her hair always looks better pulled back. I'm so-so on the dress. I hate the shoes.
And I agree about color. Debra can handle vibrant color, and she should wear it.
1/8/09, 12:10 PM
I hate the shoes!
The shoes ruin the whole look. Definitely OUT!
Ms. Starter Wife Person should know better.

I've gone back and forth but overall, she's Out, with an E for Effort.
The positives are: the grey is much much better on her than black or black/white, which TLo have given us on these pages; the makeup; and the earrings (love them!). The negatives are the shoes and the bag and unfortunately, just about everything else about the dress. I always try to give these bitches a pass on frizzy hair because man if it's damp it's just impossible.
These photos look like she's having to hold her breath to keep the damn bodice from falling down. Not to mention that I just am predisposed to disliking Donna Karan's clothing these days.
Very nice try.
1/8/09, 12:25 PM
Dress - OUT
Shoes - kinda IN (color), kinda OUT (those platforms)
Hair - OUT
Makeup - mostly IN, but the heavy kohl is OUT
1/8/09, 12:29 PM
I just want to scream, "WHY is the Glad trash bag look so IN???!!!".
Can't stand the shoes, either. They look like dutch wooden shoes undergoing a metamorphosis. And why don't these gals wear shoes that FIT? The side of her left foot is hanging over the edge of the shoe.
Out, out, a thousand times out.
1/8/09, 12:29 PM
She doesn't have gays. She has Rachel Zoe.
And therein lies the problem.
1/8/09, 12:31 PM
I liked this dress. But I also like this shade of grey. I think it's a good color on her.
Agree with the hair, but I think the dress is IN.
1/8/09, 12:32 PM
hideous mess of a frock.
plus she looks anorexic. eye makeup accentuates her wastery
1/8/09, 12:42 PM
There comes a time when women of a certain age need to hang up their kohl eyeliners, shimmery highlight powder, and bronzer and opt to look like human beings instead of geriatric Killer Klowns From Outer Space.
Debras has obviously yet to choose this most prudent of cosmetic decisions. Alas.
1/8/09, 12:55 PM
LOL why are we so hard on Miss Mess Mess? I think she has been improving her look in the past few months. She looks great...and I love the shoes....not with that dress but they would be cute with something else.
1/8/09, 1:02 PM
Sadly, out. Another case of racoon eyemakeup, hairy fuzzies and a dress that's too young. She's a beauty, but this look isn't.
1/8/09, 1:06 PM
The dress is wearing her - it doesn't fit well and she's not comfortable - look at how that posed hand on the waist is locked there...
1/8/09, 1:33 PM
Give me a break. This is way better than Posh's similar dress! DM made a statement without looking like a cartoon. I like her best in color too, but it's nice to have some variety.
The texture of the fabric and the design is interesting and subtle. The accessories do not compete or overwhelm. I agree there are minor fit issues, however.
1/8/09, 1:36 PM
"Tlo said: but we're only so-so on the shoes."
I think someone must have told her she was required to use the shoes from the Blue Fly wall.

I actually don't mind the color of the dress, but I really hate that particular dress. It's ill-fitting and I really just can't get behind that silhouette. Sorry, that's just my taste, I guess.
I thought the shoes weren't too bad when I saw the pictures embedded in the post; however, when I saw them up close, I realize that they aren't cute, either.
To sum up, she's OUT this time, for me.
1/8/09, 2:42 PM
Poorly fit dress. Harsh eye make up. The overall look is not flattering. She can be so beautiful, but not this time.
I want to say in. Out.
Iris
The dress is interesting, but not as presented.
1/8/09, 2:46 PM
Why do stick thin girls always want to wear dresses that give them MY hips and thighs? If they want to look like that they can just eat a little more. I will never get behind that style of dress.
Her hair is a disaster! Girl needs some gays with a brush.
1/8/09, 2:46 PM
It looks like a prom dress from the 1980s. Meh, she doesn't really pique my interest at all.
1/8/09, 3:10 PM
Its always nice when a dress has a crumb catcher. makes cleaning up after a meal easier.
Still, Deb, sheyne maydel, step away from the eyeliner. Its like crack to her!
1/8/09, 3:17 PM
bleh, bleh, bleh. There are still some fashion rules and beige shoes with gray is against the rules. And that goes for the gold earrings too. Mixed metals need more mixing than that to work.
I am having a larger problem with Charles in Charge's post. Charles, if you are in charge, please set a better example. There is no need to go ghetto ho on us. Please clean it up a little. I don't want to read vulgar stuff like that unless it's about someone I personally know.
1/8/09, 3:25 PM
Gotham Tomato, hilarious comme d'habitude. Faline, DITTO.
1/8/09, 3:33 PM
I think she looks good. IN. The shoes could be better, but all in all the look is chic and fresh. She's at the age where understated says more.
1/8/09, 4:58 PM
I don't agree that the dress looks sloppy. It doesn't particularly become her, but I think that is more because of the color than the shape. Her makeup and accessories (except for the shoes!) look fine, but her hair looks like she stood out in the rain.
She looks happy and glowy, and for that I will give her an "in."
1/8/09, 5:31 PM
Debra Messing is 40 according to Wikipedia.
In that dress, that age is believable.
1/8/09, 6:52 PM
Dress is pretty cool--I like it. Everything else is BAD. Earrings, clutch, shoes--awful. Her makeup and hair and fine, though.
So---that adds up to OUT. Too bad. Could have been an interesting IN.
1/8/09, 7:06 PM
There were worse dresses than Debra Messing's
Kate Hudson looks like Goldie hanging out in Malibu circa 1977:

Marisa Tomei, on the other hand:

dress is gorgeous. But the messy hair styling is so OVER!!!!!!
and Jordan Sparks was lovely:

1/8/09, 7:23 PM
No Way!! Lovesit.
1/8/09, 8:41 PM
Sigh. I have to agree. Out.
Close, but no.
A flattering color might have saved the dress, along with a little help from a tailor.
And apparently, her hair stylist didn't show up.
1/8/09, 9:08 PM
More Debra Messing? Is there no one else?
1/8/09, 11:32 PM
I think the color looks good, shape is interesting, shoes, jewelery and makeup are solid and hair is OK. I'm not blown away, but she's IN
1/9/09, 12:55 AM
wouldnt it be nice in a rich grey-green after somebody got to her hair?
1/9/09, 3:20 AM
I thought her gays were Rachel Zoe and Co. Didn't they "do" her on an episode??
I actually like the color of the dress. Not the style. And even I, mental fashion midget that I am, would not wear beige shoes with a dark grey dress!
As for her makeup - is it me or do I see some clumping of the mascara on the eyelashes??

I have to disagree, I think she looks amazing. The dress may be grey, but it would be too loud in a color b/c the design is very big itself. I love her shoes, think she looks beautiful, make up and earrings are beautiful. Love it.
1/9/09, 11:12 AM
I wish you boys would critique more of the dresses from the award shows (even if they aren't related to PR); it is fashion on television, after all! I always view the dresses with the phrase "What would TLo think?" in the back of my mind, and wish I could know!. Please consider it!

Yeah, I agree with this. I mean, let's face it, Debra Messing's connection to PR is very tangential, at best. Why limit yourself with such a seemingly silly rule? Your fans and readers will surely be interested in any of your fashion critiques, not just ones involving people who were on one episode of PR for 5 minutes like, 4 seasons ago. (Your string of Debra Messing posts belies that reality that you really need to branch out a little.)

This was awful. Gotham, I thought the same thing, the dress looks like oragami napkin folding. the shoes-awful, but that hair - no wonder she picked Chloe to win for the couch clothes. I am stil bitter about that.
1/12/09, 9:46 AM
I think Debra Messing looks FANTASTIC here. I am shocked by the criticisms... and frizzy hair? I see no frizzy hair. She could not look better.
