I agree, she has such a beautiful smile, but she is hit or miss, mostly miss. The dress skirt is shorter on the model and it looks much better above the knee.
gift bag indeed! I love the color of the dress, for anybody with a skin tone about 2 shades darker/warmer than Ms Messing's. She's such a lovely lady I'd love to see what Iman's gays would put her in.
Are there no stylists out there anymore who know how to FIT a dress?? Well, I guess, even if this piece of fug DID fit, it would still be fug. I do like the shoes, but they look like they don't fit, either.
The dress really does seem to be fitted poorly, especially around the waist. And she does seem to often err on the side of picking colors that are too light for her. But I have to say, I do think Ms. Messing's post-baby bod continues to look great.
Totally out. Why anybody thinks this woman is a style icon when she consistently looks terrible is beyond me. That color does nothing for her, the fabric looks cheap, and the embellishment is beyond tacky. I won't even comment on the messy silhouette except to say that it doesn't look good on the model either. Donna Karan has sucked for years. I can't believe she's still around.
Why is anyone comparing this to Rachel Zoe? While it is loose-fitted, this dress is not Rachel's oeuvre at all. Just because Ms. Messing is a sometime client does not mean Rachel put her into this, and I'm inclined to believe she did not. Nothing about this dress screams "I DIE," "shuts it down," or "BANANAS."
What a waste of a slender, tall figure. This dress looks like something that, say Rachel Bilson or Natalie Portman - I guess I'm trying to say petite- would pull off.
As to the dress, there's a decent concept struggling to get out. If it were more fitted, longer, and the fabric were less bulky, I think it could be very nice. But as it is, it just looks like she wrapped a bunch of fabric (albeit an interesting fabric) around herself. (It's not just her, either; it has the same effect on the model.)
What's with these celebrities wearing the wrong size of shoes?
Okay, here's my theory. It's this "no hose" trend. If you don't wear hose, the shoe won't slide on as easily, so you get a half- or full-size larger and it's too large.
I'm going against the grain. I like it. The color could be a little brighter. But I absolutely love the scattered beading and pearls. And the silhouette is good for her too. IN.
From the hipbones up, it's a lovely dress on her, if a little pale. The skirt ruins it. Is that a suggestion of *panniers*!!! in the draping over the hips from the back??? Combined with the least flattering and frumpiest hemline ever invented which in it's greatest executions can at best rate the commendation "cute"! (So sue me. I abhor the bubble skirt and all its modified ilk.)
She's looking beautiful, I am entranced by the fabric, shiny gee gaws and all, but the full effect is OUT.
Sorry guys, I totally disagree. I love it, the dress, the hair, the shoes. It's a perfect sparkling holiday package for a lovely lady. BTW, I always think she looks better with her hair pulled back than SJP does. It would have enhanced the look to have some cute longer earrings.
The peach is good for a redhead. I wish the color were a wee bit richer. I kind of like the shape of this dress on her which surprises me. I like her hair and makeup this time. The shoes, not so much.
To quote Mr. Gunn to Chloe Dao in season 2 "But Heidi, I wanted her to look like she had a big fat ass".
I guess I'm an old fuddy-duddy because I think when a woman dresses up, she should wear stockings. At least stop at the drugstore and pick up a pair on the way to the event. Nylons, pantyhose, silk stockings -- something!
I think if it fit and looked less like she stole drape from Versailles it would work. The shoes look like Nina; but I know they were atleast 400 dollars.

She is such a beautiful woman - she needs to fire her gays who keep putting her in such fug.
12/9/08 9:48 AM
Like the color, hate the silhouette.
12/9/08 9:48 AM
Did Rachel Zoe do this?
12/9/08 9:48 AM
I agree, she has such a beautiful smile, but she is hit or miss, mostly miss. The dress skirt is shorter on the model and it looks much better above the knee.
12/9/08 9:51 AM
OUT. The color washes her out, and the dress does nothing for her, giving her a very boxy shape.
12/9/08 9:56 AM
Not really digging it, but the strangest thing is that the model is wearing it with flats. That just looks weird.
12/9/08 9:58 AM

PS: LURVE the shoes....
12/9/08 10:00 AM
I think the fabric is beautiful but the color does nothing for her.
The shape IS unflattering.
12/9/08 10:02 AM
What is the point of starving yourself to skelatility if you're just going to leave the house dressed like a bedazzled cream puff?
All these actresses should forget about Rachel Zoe and just remember Audrey Hepburn.

The dress is a big out, but I think her hair and makeup are very pretty.

Sooooooo OUT! OK, she's gone.

The funny thing is that the back is not that bad.
12/9/08 10:18 AM
Is this a modern-day Scarlett O'Hara moment? Did she have to scavenge the balloon shades for a night on the town?
Shoes are cute.

Thank you! I thought InStyle.com was insane for making this the "Look of the Day" last week.
12/9/08 10:56 AM
O.U.T Out.
The dress is damn fugly.
The color is hideous.
Does Debra NOT have a mirror to see her glorious hair?
WTF?

"Gorgeous things said: The dress is a big out, but I think her hair and makeup are very pretty."
Totally agree. She is actually quite gorgeous, she just makes bad dress (and/or stylist) choices.

I for one, love it. Maybe not the hem line, but the color is nice, as are the embellishments. And she looks fab, dress or no dress.
12/9/08 11:24 AM
The dress looks awful on the model, too. Poorly made, home-sewn.
12/9/08 11:25 AM
Curtains for Debra?
12/9/08 11:27 AM
Hmmmm . . . it's really not that bad. At least it makes her look a tad younger.
12/9/08 11:48 AM
I like her hair, makeup, and shoes. Hate the dress. Expecially the no color thing, don't be afraid of a little color.
12/9/08 11:48 AM
Anon @ 11:25 for the win!
12/9/08 12:15 PM
In or out? Do you even need to ask that question?
12/9/08 12:26 PM
The far away pic looks better than the close ups.
12/9/08 12:28 PM
Pretty shoes. Interesting idea on the dress, just not working for her.

That dress is about 25 different kinds of wrong. Nothing about it works. Nothing at all.
But honestly, I don't think the shoes are that bad.
12/9/08 1:30 PM
omg -- why does she keep doing this?? she continues to dress in a way that is not flattering to her.
Can she be a contentant on Tim Gunn's Guide to Style?? --- please!!??

I'm going against the grain. I like it. The color could be a little brighter. But I absolutely love the scattered beading and pearls. And the silhouette is good for her too. IN.

I think from the neck up she looks lovely.
The dress doesn't work. In a better color and properly fitted, maybe, just maybe.
Do love the shoes but they don't seem to fit either.

Good lord. How many other outfits did Rachel Zoe paw through before coming up with this little gem?
The only thing missing is the bag for her candy.

What's in is that she appears to have put on a little weight. She needs it.
The dress looks like the packing material stuck via static cling. Little styrofoam balls everywhere.
12/9/08 2:57 PM
The peach is good for a redhead. I wish the color were a wee bit richer. I kind of like the shape of this dress on her which surprises me. I like her hair and makeup this time. The shoes, not so much.
On balance, she's in. Just.

doesn't rachel zoe do her styling? i know she has in the past. it's just SOOO fug.
my first reaction was that it looks like one of those voluminous shoulder bags that hold everything (and this one is holding her!)
really bad. love the shoes, but i agree that they don't seem to fit very well.
OUT!

God, she ALWAYS looks like shit anymore! Fire your gays, dear. Who told her redheads could wear that color?

That much fabric is always a bad idea unless your trying to dress-up your colostomy bag.
Wait! Maybe that's they new trend in Hollywood. Bedazzeled colostomy bags!
12/9/08 5:05 PM
Just because these silhouttes are innovative doesn't mean they're flattering. Talk about giving her a HUGH fat ass!
12/9/08 5:08 PM
I don't hate it but it's definitely not the right dress for her. OUT!
12/9/08 5:29 PM
OUT. Debra looks beautiful when she's well dressed, but this...the color does nothing for her and the shape is awful. OUTOUTOUT
12/9/08 6:15 PM

IN
I am a sucker for Debra's radiance and the shoes are fab!. Actually the dress would be legitimately IN if it fit better.
12/9/08 9:06 PM
is that crazy chipmunk, what's her name, Rachel Zoe, still dressing this fuddy duddy? Because she's falling down on the job. Ugh.
12/9/08 11:22 PM
borrowed shoes like borrowed dress - thats why they are too big! and why celeb shoes are often too big.
12/10/08 10:56 AM
her dresses are always "off". Was there ever an "in" moment with her other than the moment on PR, which was pretty decent...Feh
12/12/08 4:17 PM
SO OUT
I am a redhead myself and you must know the cardinal rule: NEVER WEAR ALL WHITE/OFF WHITE
Even in a different color, the silhouette would only work on a tiny model figure.
12/13/08 1:08 PM
dress is bad, but this is the best I've seen Debra Messing look. She looks radiant.
12/14/08 5:32 PM
Rachel Zoe does not always style Debra, for one, and for two, this is very obviously not a Zoe styling.
