Leanne's Fall/Winter 2008 Collection

Labels:
Darlings, let's take a mo from ripping dresses and ... well, rip some other dresses. Not that we would rip these because we think they're beautiful. If you read the title then you know we're talking about Leanne's Fall/Winter 2008 collection, about which it is said:

"Creating beautiful, conceptual garments that are ultimately wearable remains the focus of the line. Leanimal's signatures feature structural tucks and pleats, non-traditional combinations of fabrics and textures, and always figure-flattering silhouettes."

Structural's the name of the game here and Judy Noodles likes her layering and her pleating and (of course) her noodles. We think she has quite a distinct style - feminine and romantic and modern - and we think many of these pieces are downright beautiful.

And for extra measure, here's her Spring 2008 Collection:

Leanne is fast becoming a lock for one of this season's finalist spots, in my opinion. She has showed great promise since the third episode, but with the last challenge she proved that her architectural aesthetic can be applied to a variety of materials and can result in beautiful, flattering and modern garments.

And that, ladies and gents, is why I've said this girl is a contender. I've known about her from etsy since before the show's contestants were announced, and when I found out she was going, I knew she was last 3 material. I think she just needed to get the feel for the competition aspect of it.
I hope that the fact that she doesn't make "good reality tv" doesn't stunt her chances in the long run.

Gorgeous. I do think that sometimes (for example, the first dress), she needs to edit just a bit, but I think she's amazing. I liked her from the beginning (even the 'green' cocktail dress, for the most part), and I hope she makes it to Bryant Park. Plus she's so cute and fun! Oh Leanne.

She's very talented. I've loved her since day 1. She HAS to go to Bryant Park.

Slow down, Mommy & Daddy! I can't keep up with you.

Leanne is a powerhouse. I love her collection - other than the bloomin' bloomers. And I can't call her Judy Noodles for some reason. It just seems wrong to me.

I am looking forward to her Bryant Park debut, but only if she doesn't do anything with the noodles. I just don't think they are aesthetically pleasing. Sue me.

This stuff is beautiful. So dang it, do it on the show!

Textural is right. Not my cup of tea, but I can appreciate the aesthetic.

What I like about Leanne is how she's learned to work within the confines of the challenges on PR and still maintain her sense of style.

This is a beautiful collection. I would love to wear any of these pieces. She's one of the few designers this season that I can actually see having a great future in fashion. She has a very strong point of view, which may or may not be your taste but it's aesthetic pleasing, for sure.

I think someone has taken Jennifer's "Holly Go Lightly Visits a Salvador Dali Exhibit" to the next level. I commented on Blogging Project Runway that if Leanne keeps coming up with designs like she did on the "Fashion That Drives You" challenge that she could secure her spot in the final 3. That's a big "if" ... for all of them. Ladies and gentlemen: Mr. Keith Bryce

Very noodly. I can't help but think that you'd look ridiculous wearing this if you were anything over a size 6. Pretty tho.

Love these. For some weeks now she's been my pick to win the whole thing.

Wow.
I don't think I would like these on my body, but I love the 3D effect and they are for the most part very flattering to the models. A real feast for the eye.
And say what you will about the noodley green challenge dress, it was impeccably constructed - you only had to compare it to Wesley's dress made from the exact same fabric to see how much worse it could have been.

They are indeed gorgeous... even if they wouldn't fit me well, they are works of art, undoubtedly. She'll go far.

honesty.not.pc

Too foo foo for my taste. I definitly see talent there though.

Leanne is amazing! I don't know how these complex dresses could be manufactured. They look very well crafted and expensive. She is extremely talented and what a hard worker she is. I sure hope she makes it to the end.

*sigh* gorgeous.
just gorgeous.

You know, I can't help but think that Frau Seal needs to put a few Judy Noodles creations in her collection---that way she should stay with the short skirts but what with the visual interest going on she'd get away from the "short, shiny and tight" issue.

I love the ones that use flowing fabric along with the tight sculptural effect....for the most part though, lovely as these are I don't see myself in them, other than maybe at a soiree where you want your dress to be a conversation starter.

I was just now able to watch this week's episode, and Leanne blew my mind with her construction! And the neckline treatment...this is the kind of stuff I used to take for granted on earlier seasons.

Fabulously Zaftig

She has a very beautiful clothing line going there. But I do wonder how well all that structured/folded/pleated/draped etc. material holds up after repeated wearings and dry cleanings? Or are these outfits just supposed to be one time wear special event items?

They're beautiful clothes for magazine shoots, not for real women.

Frau Seal in one of these dresses? Not likely. She doesn't need noodles to give her the *illusion* of hips and boobs. She actually (like many of us) *has* hips and boobs.

I want to see Leanne at BP, but I would not and, let's be honest, could not ever wear this stuff.

I'm worried. Does the existence of a "Fall/Winter 2008 Collection" mean Leanne is NOT spending her current time sewing madly for PR's Bryant Park design-off?

Can someone who's industry-savvy explain the timeline for developing a Fall/Winter collection?

she really is a contender--
it was a good plan to fly under the radar.
I love her looks, distinctive, but not gimmicky.
modern, but wearable-- and I think that there maybe something for many body types. Obviously noodles would have to be placed in different areas.

what more could a woman ask for?
Go Judy Noodles!

I have to disagree with you. I think that the majority of these dresses would look good on a variety of body types and ages. A lot of the styles obsure the body and the ones that don't tend to flatter curves. The lenght may be problematic on a few, but they tend to "show" them shorter than they are manufacutered and the length usually grades about 1/2" longer per size. Her work reminds me a little of a Spanish designer from the 80's named Sybilla.

why is the Asian model in the bottom pics hunched over like Quasimodo? it's distracting.

don't you mean this Sebellia? Was there any good fashion to come out of the '80s? *ducks*

I WANT that first black and burgandy dress. And I'm 58 and NOT a size 6.

I like the styling, and I like that the models don't look too unhappy..over all it is very beautiful.

I would love to wear most anything she makes. Sadly I can't swing big money on clothes and I'm a large lady. Maybe one day!

No, I mean SYBILLA, http://www.fashionfromspain.com/icex/cda/controller/pageGen/0,3346,1549487_5857768_5852720_234706_0,00.html Leannes work looks absolutely nothing like Jeffery's and as far as I know he was not working as a fashion designer in the 80's, nor is he Spanish.
And yes, there was a lot of great fashion to come out of the 80's. In the US there were Norma Kamali, Stephen Sprouse,Angel Estrada, Patrick Kelly, Isabel Toledo, Christian Frances Roth, Thea Anema, and Betsey Johnson. In Europe- Jean Paul Gaulter, John Gallianos, Body Map, Sybilla, Martine Sitbon, Stephen Jones (hats) Richmond/Cornejo, Frank Joseph Bastille, and Vivienne Westwood. And in Japan- Rei Kawakubo, Issey Miyake, and Yohji Yamamoto. And that's just a few.

I LOVE this collection! You know, there are women out there below size 6 who only wear a garment once, who wear one-of-a-kind-dresses and who would find these pieces gorgeous. Not every garment is meant to fit all women out there.

mummy needs champagne

I also have to disagree on the idea that anyone over a size 6 couldn't wear these. Look at the lines on that coat. A size sixteen could wear that, and she would be GOREGEOUS.

Come on Miss L., I'm rooting for you!

I wish she'd use more colors than white, black and grey. Some Kate Spade yellow or green, or some YSL gypsy colors in her flounces would be even more fabulouser.

She's been my pick since TLo printed the designers' portfolio's before the first show. I'm so glad to see she can also pull off these looks on the run in a very limited time using very bizarre materials.

She just sort of quietly stands there thrumming with energy and talent like she's running on dilithium crystals while everyone else around her is chugging around on steam engines.

mummy needs a little less champagne

Dammit. Gorgeous, not gore-geous. The way I misspelled it sounds like the beautiful size sixteen lady would be starring in a slasher flick.

Oy.

MAKE MENS JACKETS!!! :K
I loved her form the start!

cute, but very Target. Thats not bad, but its very much that look.

Cute, but very Target.

WHAT????? My dear, buy a fashion magazine and I don't mean Cosmopolitan.

Let's hope there's a couture challenge in the near future. Although, you can kind of predict the dress she'd make.

Vicious Fishes

I'm echoing anonymous at 2;11 - given that this is a new collection is Leanne:

1. Totally out because she would not have had a collection announced if she was still in.
2. Is this part of the process to go to Bryant Park?

Let us uninformed know!

I LOVE the first piece, and I really like the coat. I'd love it, but for the bubble hem (not my thing). She really does beautiful work.

It's four looks. That doesn't mean anything. Besides, they're designing for Spring 2009.

Mariana (The Unoriginal)

Sorry, five.

I am impressed!! I love most of the looks, especially the first dress and the coat. Not loving the bloomers though.
I think Leanne is extremely talented and her designs are innovative without being way out there.
As an aside, perhaps the PR models ought to take a look at the models doing Leanne's layout. I am not at all impressed with this season's models. The all look like they ate lemons prior to walking the runway.

Leanne. Korto. The finale's gonna be good! :)

ummmm . . . . these pieces would be from last spring ;)

potty mouth princess

Judy Noodles, please keep stealing Violet's stash to help guide your artistic impression.

Those are absolutely beautiful.

After all this time, I think I finally have a favorite to win this thing (although her sneaking around in the previews has me worried...hopefully, she's just babysitting Blayne and playing "hide and seek" with him). ;-)

TEAM LEEANNE!

I’m guessing that since she has an etsy site, she's made these as 1 off dresses and sold them...working on a Bryant park collection doesn't mean the rent isn't be due at the end of the month.

Gorgeous! I love it!

Oh my god i want one of each. Very feminine and clean. I love her!
She and Korto are my favorites.

I LOVE that coat, that is really beautiful. Leanne's MUCH better than the show portrays her to be.

Beautiful collection! Thank you for the pics, guys!

Wow, that is a clearly defined aesthetic. I am very impressed and can think of plenty of functions where these outfits would be perfect.

Now I just hope and pray she doesn't run into a monster roadblock of a challenge that eliminates her before Bryant Park!

That's exactly it and you need that if you want to stand out; she'll go far.

WOW - that's very impressive. Gorgeous.

She IS a fashion assasin! hahaha

love it - hope she makes it to BP.

Sweetie it was a joke, a play on words "Sybilla"/"Sebellia." You've gotten very grouchy with people lately, & no fun to play with. I'm taking my toys and going home. Buh-bye!

Definitely not into color or prints, is she?

It's beautiful stuff--in my experience, sculpted stuff is great when you're concealing a few pounds--it doesn't hug the body--kind of like Rami's draping.

With her, it looks like it's going to be all about the editing--when is enough enough.

What I'd love to see, though, is a team challenge where she's matched up with Korto. Korto's vivid colors, body sense and elegant line matched up with Judy Noodles' sculpting--if they could collaborate at all, you could get something amazing.

I want it all. She is looking to be the most talented PR contestant ever IMHO. Love it.

I love the coatdress and the three "white" dresses. Leanne's holding her own and seems to be pretty drama free. I wouldn't mind seeing a collection at BP from her.

I'm afraid I'm gonna date myself here, but every time I hear Leannemals, I think of Geranimals and bust up.

I'm excited to see how this bunch handles prints next week.....

I really think her clothes are totally gorg!! I'm mean, my fat-ass could NEVER wear them (well, maybe the coat) but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate them. Major kudos for Ms. Noodles.

GORGEOUS! I want that black and white dress.

" Anonymous said...

I agree. I hope she stays until the end. It is a little disappointing to see real talent go home while keeping the clowns for the sake of ratings.

gorgeous! i love the sculpted look - i especially like the white w/the black peeking out from underneath each layer. that dress could be turned into a spectacular formal/wedding gown with a dressier fabric and full length. it has almost a little train/bustle look about the back but it's not too frou-frou. this collection looks very couture. i would love to see what she could do at bryant park....i'm rooting for you judy noodles!

Wow, I really like this collection. She used neutral colors without being boring. The shapes and details are amazing, and the fit is superb.

I may just jump on the Team Leanne bandwagon now.

Sewing Siren, I don't think you're grouchy. You just need me to pour you a cocktail!

XOXOXO

Absolutely LOVE. Especially the second dress -- the black & white -- I would thrilled to wear that. I'm VERY impressed with little Judy's skillz.

Wow. Reminds me a bit of Vivienne Westwood, but Leanne's still definitely doing her own thing. I can't wait to see what else she produces on PR.

On another note, I wish her models in these pictures had had better make-up and hair. Maybe she wanted to give the looks a bit of an edge, but this "dawn of the evil-dead" styling is just distracting.

edina monsoon

Let's just call it right now --- Leanne's going to Bryant Park.

I am continuously blown away by this girl's talent and imagination. From these images, I absolutely love every look, pleat, ruffle, hem and stitch of these amazing garments. Can you imagine seeing them on someone in motion? I've been rooting for her for weeks and am blown away each and every time I see more of her aesthetic come to life on PR.

If LeAnne doesn't win S3 then she definitely has a future in the fashion industry as a top designer with an international following.

- edina -

not a lot that i'd want to wear personally, but she's got skills, no doubt about that. i just find the precious six-year-old voice/demeanor thing nauseating. i expect her to scuff her foot against the floor and look down and say "aw shucks, i'm just a lil girl." which, in my book, is NOT CUTE or endearing. at all.

blah. i hate that people i find irritating have bags of talent. it makes me feel like a curmudgeon.

i'm not sure about the size 6 and ups wearing this stuff. ruffles and added fabric furbelows add bulk, and no pudgy girl needs that (incidentally, i don't think pudgy even really starts until size 12 or 14). and a size 16 *could* wear that coat, as long as she had a flat ass and stored all her bulk in her calves or tummy.

this stuff looks nice in pictures, but i wouldn't want to wear it, and i'm not even sure it would look all that fab out of a photo shoot.
but what do i know?

God, I hope this full collection doesn't mean she's not a finalist. I'd love to see this stuff in movement.

The work reminds me a bit of Isabel Toledo. That's a good thing.

Leanne! If, by some unholy misalignment of the planets you are not a finalist at Bryant Park, please consider having these looks walk in a simple YouTube video.

She needs an investor & I hope PR gets her to one.

Totally gorgeous. I thought she was a contender from the beginning. It's just that she looks like the 14-year-old next door! Not in a bad way, just in a young way.

I say Leanne, Korto, Terry for the lineup. None of the guys are even in the ballpark this year.

Is there a term to describe her details?

People talk about her clothes as ruffly or noodly or even origami-inspired, but I wonder if there's actually a formal term for what she seems to be doing.

I don't know...in some respects her slavish devotion to her noodles, her layering and sculpting reminds me of Rami with his draping. As I felt with him, yes the clothes are lovely but is she a one trick pony? Not so sure. Laura B primarily designed evening wear and each piece reflected the distinctive Laura aesthetic~but she still used myriad techniques to achieve that aesthetic and each piece was distinctive as a result. The 'Nuts' dress looked nothing like the bath rug 'fur' coat or the stunning little beaded dress that Camilla wore to perfection~yet they all reflected Laura's POV, without doubt. Leanne doesn't have that range, IMHO, and I doubt that she will win because of it.

Leanne's collection is so sculptural!

She has a great eye for putting unusual shapes together and the results are feminine and flattering.

I definitely hope to see her at Bryant Park.

Her outfits are really couture and elegant. Her construction on the show has been excellent. I know she didn't rein Blayne in on the team challenge but he seems irrepressible. Always fun unless you have to work with that person. She is my hometown girl and I truly admire her esthetic.

I have to admit that I was not a Leanne fan at the beginning of the season, but she's really begun to grow on me. She doesn't stoop to the cattiness of some of the other designers, but that being said, I still want Terri at Bryant Park!

i'm not dorothy gale

The large photo of the white dress made me crave linguine. I have a pasta machine and if I'm not conscientious about cutting the pasta as it exits it turns into a big foldy pile.

Interesting style and I hope she does well; just not my cup of noodles.

I love every piece.

Pretty, if a bit derivative (see Marchesa, e.g.). She's talented, tho; hope she goes far.

OH MY GOD THAT COAT!

Yeah, I'm making a prediction right now: Korto, Leanne, Jerell--top 3.

As much as I would look a Terri/Korto/Leanne finale I have a feeling they have the "Kevin Christiana/Alison Kelly" style aufing style aufing in store for her. You know, the one where they have are consistent and frequently on the top 3 and the audience feels the auf is unfair and the judges were on crack.

I think after this episode the judges have picked their favorites, and once those favorites are more or less set it's hard to change the judges' and producers' agenda of who goes.

Korto is pretty much on her way to Bryant Park, we all know that. The judges love her. Leanne will probably make it after the dress she made in this episode.

Jerrell is creative and original but very hit and miss. Terri on the other hand has been consistently good but never blows anyone away. I think these 2 will be the wildcards.

As much as I would love to see Leanne, Korto, and Terri at Bryant Park, would the producers send three women to the Final Three? Seems like they'd want at least one man in there for demographic reasons. Thus, I think Joe or Jerell is going to make it. Not sure which of the very deserving ladies will get aufed, but that's my (vague) prediction.

Goddamn, the ruffles and pleats are a little overwhelming in a couple of her pieces but overall her work is nothing short of stunning. That girl's going to Bryant Park.

too much, too much, too much!!

Edit, edit EDIT!!!!

Judy Noodles... too noodley.

look at the Maroon(ish) coat. Lovely, except overdone with the noodles.

some lovely work gets mucked up with too much. save her from herself.

I think she is doing a fine job of editing herself on the show. I think she is one of the contestants who is also using the show as a learning opportunity, not just a platform. It's amazing how she picked herself up on the 3rd episode, and has taken what she learned a step further and made the dress she did this episode.

Her myspace (http://www.myspace.com/leanimalcrackers) page has this quote up: "At least it was an extremely well-made "mess"."

I wonder if this is heralding her aufing.

I LOVE her stuff. Definitly my kind of clothes. I've loved her from the beginning, and I definitly hope she makes it 'til the end!

Wow - who would've guessed that all this breathtakingly gorgeous stuff was coming out of this designer who acts and dresses like a librarian?

Anonymous at 2:11, there are 2 fashion weeks in NYC every year. At the Feb show, they show collections for the coming fall. At the September show, the show collections for the coming spring. So in September 2008, the designers will show their Spring 2009 collections.

So, no, the fact that she has a Fall 2008 collection does not mean she's not working on her (Spring 2009) collection for Bryant Park right now. Her Fall 2008 collection would have been shown (if she showed at Fashion Week at all) in February, 2008.

I really like that fall/winter collection, it's lovely to look at. To be honest, I underestimated Leanne until the last challenge. The stuff she does looks great and she has a lot of talent.
Funny thing is, while I like the look of her collection, there's not one single design in there that I would want to wear. Still too many noodles maybe.

You read my mind! One tiny mistake and one of them will be OUT. Let's hope it's not that predictable. I really can't see Suede, Blayne or Stella going to BP. Kenley maybe has a tiny chance, but she'll need to step it up. And honestly, I don't think Joe or Jerell deserve to go either, although I won't mind if Jerell makes it cause he's cute ;)
But yeah, Korto, Leanne and Terri top 3 please!

What a beatiful collection. I love that white dress. They're very modern looking.

Leanne has been my favorite on PR, I really hope she wins!!

CanIGetYouAnything?

Her designs are futuristc, fashion-forward, and innovative. I do agree with some of you here that sometimes she needs to edit just a little, but she really is amazingly talented, and young, she will have a brilliant career.

Here's a little something about Judy Noodles:
"Once I found out I had made it I was beyond thrilled! And of course it was so much harder than I could ever be prepared for! I'm used to working alone in my studio apartment all day long. It's just me, my sewing machine and a closet that is overflowing outward with fabric! This environment was the complete opposite with the cameras, the crazy personalities and all the drama! But it was the experience of a lifetime, without a doubt, and I made some great friends while I was there, too."

Vienna Marriott

Leanne is uber-talented. She's ridiculous the way she churns out these amazing structural couture-esque (not to overuse an already overused term) looks! They're original in a sea of lemmings. Work, Leanne. And um... if you ever read this. Make me a gown or umm... live in my pocket.

They're very high-end, couture looking. I presonally love them and would wear every single one of them. Now that coat is a must-have.

It’s definitely modern, it’s got simple clean lines, and it stands out from the sea of mediocre designs/designers we've seen so far on the show.

Beautiful! It reminds me of Rami's beautiful draping.

A lot of intricate and impressive detailing work. She's really good. I hope we get to see more of her work.

It's Bryant Park, not the UN. They don't have to have all genders and races represented. It should be about talent and nothing else.

Anon 5:05 pm,
Come now,was I grouchier than usual? I am usually pretty prickly you know. It certainly isn't my aim to drive anyone off. Seriously, Sybilla is a fairly obscure reference and I AM a terrible speller, so I wasn't sure if you knew who I was talking about or not.
PS I'm usually making fun of my own, long winded, over explanatory, too technical, full of obscure references, poor grammer, badly spelled, posts.

I'm a Google freak. I can't help it.

Absolutely stunning. If I were the right size, shape, and age, I would wear every one of those garments. If Leanne doesn't make it to Bryant Park, there is something seriously wrong.

She works with precision. Some of the poses those models are striking make it difficult to see the intense craftsmanship of her work.

She's an odd duck. But ...she's my pick for one of the final three, unless she completely blows it.

edina monsoon

This really has nothing to do with LeAnne's apparel, but I just wanted to comment on the interior used for this and other photo shoots. Love. It. I really like the contrast of these interiors against her amazingly beautiful, lush creations. Good photography. Good photographer. I think she's used this as a backdrop on other occasions, but I wanted to comment on the smart choice and selection for these fabulous garments.

- edina -

Oh, wow, that's gorgeous. Normally I don't connect with the conceptual stuff but this is wearable, too. And it's just *different* from the other stuff I see out there, which seems like part of the point of having designers...I suddenly am a much bigger fan of hers.

Over-designed!

I think the coolest thing about Leanne is that she personally wears a lot of her designs (much like Jillian did) that she creates and "models" them before she gets professional shots done..

It'd be pretty hot if the designers themselves had to model in their shows..

I love Leanne a little more every day. And two of those dresses are available on her etsy site right now. Also, in her etsy feedback is a picture of a real woman wearing one of her dresses and she looks great. Interesting, but not over the top weird.

you guys have some work to do if you want to post on the 6 other designs before Wed. night, not to mention posting about Laura Bennett's inside take on the judging. Get to it!!!!

Thanks for saying this. I've loved her style from the start. I also rather enjoy her snarky comments, said in a sweet voice, of course.

I never understood why they don't take more time to show the designs. I always rely on the boys to see all the details. Project Catwalk actually does a much better job showing the designs.

The more I see of this girl's designs, the more I want to see!

I WANT that coat, and also the first photo, the black dress with the red roses. OMG I die happy now. Actually, I die unhappy cause I could never afford them. But just to see them!

I must respectfully disagree.

This is whickety-whacked, Jubilee Jumbled, Home Ec. Dour and overworked. The woman has talent; we're watching her learn to edit as the season progresses.

The latest, the Mugler knockoff, is a knock-out (you can see one of his in this shape right now in the Superheroes exhibit at the Costume Institute). I'd love to see her apprentice with somebody like Ralph Rucci, who knows how to sublimate decoration into structure.

Curious to see what see does after the show.

I do hope Leanne gets to show at BP. She makes fantastic clothes. And that reddish-plum jacket looks amazing.

I'm happy to say that my initial impressions of her were dead wrong. I thought she was gonna be Angela Kesslar Part Two: The Holly Hobby Saga. Turns out that she's actually very talented, she just had some editing problems early in the season.

Judy Noodles FTW.

I LOVE this collection...love it!

Her myspace page has this quote up: "At least it was an extremely well-made "mess"."
I wonder if this is heralding her aufing.

I wondered the same thing. Hope not, because these impressive pieces are, I'm sure, only the tip of the iceberg. I so want to see a Leanne collection at Bryant Park.

Wow! I've seen her stuff on etsy but wasn't looking real closely at the shop name and therefore didn't make the connection. That's awesome :)

Gorgeous. Not exactly my aesthetic (not thin enough), but the pieces are so visually pleasing that it's impossible not to respond positively to them.

um so i need that pink coat!!!!!
also that pretty grey dress and the white dress. Wow. wowowowow.
