Go Straight Boy!

Darlings, we have a confession to make.

We want to fuck Varla Jean Merman.

Is that so wrong? Look at him! Her! Him!

We have spent the night coming to terms with our newfound attraction to drag queens and we're happy to inform you that we're okay with it. So long as they look like that.

The rest of them, not so much.

But ohmigod, how FUN was that episode? There's no denying that they were the most fabulous, most bitchy and most be-sequin'd group of clients the show's ever had. In fact, we propose that in the wake of Project Runway's impending departure from the network, Bravo should develop a drag version of the show to take its place. Project Dragway. A drag Heidi, a drag Nina and a drag king Tim. No need for a drag version of Michael Kors since it would be pretty much redundant.

And how fun to see SissyBear again. He seemed a little off on the runway but his critiques in the workroom were dead on.

"Ohmigod, I'm so scared right now."

"Just don't make me look like your daughter and you'll get out of this with your balls intact."

We have to say, we were really pleased to see that Joe won it. We know some of you are thinking that Terri got robbed again and we can see why people would think that, but in our opinion, Joe really nailed it and deserves a lot of credit for working so far outside his comfort zone.

It wasn't the most original drag look ever attempted, but it was absolutely perfect for Varla Jean.

In a way, that was really smart. So many other designers were trying to go as over the top as they could imagine and while there's nothing wrong with that approach, for this drag queen, simple was the best way to go.

And we mean "simple" in relation to drag attire. Obviously, there's nothing understated about a pink sequined sailor jumpsuit on a seven-foot man with linebacker shoulders.

Now, you could argue that Joe lucked out because Varla Jean came in and recommended some changes. And thank god she did, because it was getting too close to Elvis with that stand-up collar. It looked to us like Varla Jean came up with the sailor suit idea and Joe ran with it.

And you know what? Good for him. That's called "listening to your client" and we can't fault him one bit for that.

And for someone who had trouble fitting his model last week, well....apparently Joe's more comfortable stretching fabric tightly across a perky male ass. That's all we're sayin'.

That "Nina, stop!" just killed us. And the earrings! We doubt they came off the Bluefly accessories wall.

So yes, Joe also lucked out that this-seven foot Barbie came with her own accessories (and we don't mean a penis).

Speaking of which, that hide-the-candy belt was ingenious and looked fabulous. The only critique? That zipper looks a little sloppy.

The end.

Fabulous! I am glad Joe won. I think he nailed it.

LOVE Varla Jean Merman!

LOVE this episode!!!!!

The minute Kors described it as "charming", I knew Joe had won it.

That outfit made the judges, and everyone watching, fall in love with Varla Jean.

There may have been more interesting looks, or better designs, but Joe absolutely nailed the intent of the challenge. Terri's was awesome in many ways, but Joe really deserved the win.

I, too, want to fuck Varla Jean. After the awesome LOGO video TLo posted yesterday, I think I'm in love. If I only had a penis (sigh).

OMG! LOVED THE SHOW last night.

i just about fell out when varla showed up as her "normal" self. ADORABLE. i was almost speechless.

so glad joe won, it was perfect for varla. it too was adorable.

sissybear! now why couldnt he have been a judge? ru-paul looked terrible IMO.

"We want to fuck Varla Jean Merman"

I just did a spittake on my keyboard !

Way to Go Joe!!! Varla Jean Merman looked great. Loved the episode! Laughed at the straight guy wins the drag queen challenge HAHAHAHAHA

Varla Jean looked sooo adorable. Although I'm not sure if it was the outfit or if she's been hitting the gym, but in that outfit at least, she could stand to go up a cup size, to play down the broadness of her shoulders.

and joe in the bra cracked me up.

Terri got robbed? More like Korto got robbed.

Varla Jean was amazing! Hahaha. I think a LOT of the drag queens must have brought their own accessories and shoes. Many had things that matched the outfit too specifically (like Varla's anchor earrings and Acid Betty's blue and white boots)for them to have come off the Bluefly wall. Plus I'm sure they don't normally have huge men's shoe sizes in heels!

I honestly think any of the top 3 could have won, but Joe's drag queen was clearly the most ecstatic. I enjoyed this episode a lot more than I expected to.

I was sorry that Korto didn't win and I really liked Kenley' look, too. But if I was to lose a tshirt & bobblehead, I'm glad it was to Joe. He looked like he was having a great time (even though he did look a bit uncomfortable at times).

This was the first epi that I actually laughed out loud multiple times. When Blayne said, "Too much drama", I about choked.

I could not believe the transformation of Varla Jean. Absolutely amazing.

Way to go Joe!

I've never been a big fan of drag queen culture, but I *heart* Varla Jean---as man, woman, whatever s/he wants to be on any damned day of the week! What a gorgeous specimen of male/female anatomy. Looooved Joe's look for VJ (tee-hee...vajayjay). A simple concept, but perfect for his model because he obviously captured VJ's true drag spirit. Congrat's to Joe.

I did love Terri's look, but there was just a bit too much going on around the bodice. I know the judges loved it, but my eyes were bouncing all around and found it difficult to focus on one particular area of the outfit. I'd love to have seen more of the Japanese inspiration in her look.

"We want to fuck Varla Jean Merman"

ROFL. Varla is HOT HOT HOT! I think I found my lover. Joe did a fantastic job. Congratulations!

This outfit was perfect! It seemed well fit and flattering. And, sure, he had a drag queen who gave some direct advice, but he was smart enough to take it (listen up Suede).

I did like Terri and Korto's too, but this was the first episode this season where I really loved the top three looks---a welcome change!

Varla Jean is my new friend in the head. She's a gorgeous woman and a sexy ass man...you may want him, boys, but I want him, too. And I will cut you.

Terri: I thought last night that she was robbed, but I can see how Joe won. It really was perfect. I still think he's a smarmy prick.

Korto: GOT ROBBED. Her queen worked the queer hell out of that dress, y'all.

Daniel: the sweaty chihuahua is gone! Hallefrickinllujah.

RuPaul: DAYUM. And not in a good way. I wanted to give girlfriend a brush, a wigstand, and a bottle of Pink Lotion. Bless her heart.

Mariana (The Unoriginal)

LOVE LOVE LOVE the post, guys! This was such a fun episode, and Varla? Darling, what a body! Joe totally deserved the win.

Holy cow, is that Varla Jean stacked or what?

In that jumpsuit, she looked like AnnMargaret had been having regular appointments with Roger Clemmen's trainer. She could stand in for Michaelangelo's statue of David.

This was the best PR episode EVER. I'm a married straight mother of two and I think I love drag queens now, too. Utterly fabulous!!!!!!

Joe rocked his look and totally "got" Varla Jean. They were a true collaboration--when s/he suggested going more sailor than Elvis, it all clicked and how cute was she on the runway? As much as it's going to benefit the charity, I think Joe or someone needs to run up a duplicate for Varla Jean to wear proudly!

So cool that they all came to the workroom in their everyday attire. That really underscored the transformation they make as drag queens. Best episode EVER!!!

C'est moi, c'est moi Lola

"And you know what? Good for him. That's called "listening to your client" and we can't fault him one bit for that."

Exactly! It was because he listened to his client and Varla was SO happy in it that she worked it within an inch of its sparkly life on that runway!

Drag is over the top, but it is also the exaggeration/caricature of femininity, and Joe did it almost to perfection. He made Varla shapely while mitigating the linebacker shoulders, etc. Varla was one hot babe!

And TLo, I don't know what it says about where I am on the Kinsey spectrum, but Varla Jean, in or out of drag, was smokin' hot all around....

I love Varla, and I loved her outfit...BUT it still wasn't all that creative. It was very her, but I've seen her in some much more creative costumes. Donna Summer got robbed yet again. What is the judges' problem with her?!

And god bless her heart, RuPaul should sue the lighting director of that show, that's all I'm saying.

"SUS said...

Same here. They were all great, hard to pick one, but I have to agree with the judges. Just look at how happy and pleased the client was with her outfit.

OMG! I joke about the straight guy winning the challenge ... AND HE WINS!!!

Why didn't I keep him as my pick to win? DAMN!

This was one of THE best episodes ever!

And what was with RuPaul? I've never seen her look like that.

With that wig, obviously from the Anne Slowey Collection, she looked like she should change her name to Hurricane Faye.

--GothamTomato

I LOVED Joe in the bra. Hilarity at its best.

"We want to fuck Varla Jean Merman"

I know, right?!! What a hottie. Love him/her. Love the outfit. Love the challenge.
But Joe had better not turn his back on Terri. She looked like she wanted to tear him to ribbons with her seam ripper in the 'post-judging lounge.' Girl is gonna cut someone if they don't toss her a win soon.

LaFemmeFataledeNY

So happy for Joe! Way to go, straight boy!

Fabulous outfit!

"The only critique? That zipper looks a little sloppy."

You bitches don't miss a thing. I didn't notice that. You're so right and that's why I love you. : )

LMFAO!!!!!

This ep was so much more fun than I had feared it might be, since I think the very costumey challenges, while sparkly and crazy, don't totally make sense for this show. But it was managed just right, with the right attitude, and so many of the designers rose to the occasion. Any of the top three could have won, but I think the judges did the right thing. I would have put Terri in a solid second, though. Korto's design was fab, but it was a kind of fab we've seen a lot of in the drag queen world. Terri's design was perfect for her client, but wasn't so much a drag queen piece as a fabulous over-the-top glam rocker piece.

And Mr. Impeccable Taste is gone gone gone, as well he should be.

I loved this episode!!! definitely Joe was the right winner, his outfit for Varla Jean was perfect! I don't understand people's love for Terri's outfit, I didn't like it at all and it seems Tim Gunn agrees with me :-)

anyway it was amazing to see the drag queens out of their personas for a while, they look sooooo different, it's ridiculous.... and Varla Jean, wow! what a handsome man! ;-)

I wished they could have given Chris more air time in the show, he was great!

I loved this challenge and Joe's design for Varla Jean's. When I first saw the outfit, I could see Ann Margaret in her sex kitten days.
IMHO-Joe's best decision was choosing a queen who's persona he really understood. He started with how a straight man dress a good girl sex kitten and then he took it over the top letting Varla Jean guide him.

Good job Joe!

CO-SIGN. Terri's "displeasure" was more than a little evident, wasn't it? She looks like the kind of chick who keeps a razor blade beneath her tongue.

Congrats Joe! Love the whole look! Go straight boy!

And toddny, so willing to forsake Keith aka fugly-ripped-up-fabric-boy for Varla Jean? I don't blame you. I would too.

My Daniel is gone. Oh, the depression . . .

"Tlo said: The rest of them, not so much."

You know, in that long shot, the ladies look like they could be standing on a buffet line in Boca Raton.

--GothamTomato

UGH! I want Varla Jean's BUTT for myself!!

And when the H-E-double hockey sticks is KEITH going to get kicked off? I'm perplexed. At least Daniel made an outfit out of a single piece of fabric. What's WITH the edward scissorhands looks?!?

I'll add my "Woof!" to the assessment of Ms. Varla Jean in her more testosterone-laden self. Yowza! He is HOOOTTTT! Most drag queens are either very heavy (to create false curves) or very thin, to the point of being anorexic, so seeing VJ in her street drag was a welcome change for those of use who like a bit of muscle on a man.

I was not surprised that Joe won, in part because he had the best client (I know, I'm gushing), but I also agree that any of the top three could have won. When we talk about Terri's outfit, I'll go into more detail, but she definately had the hardest challenge, and made it work. Korto also did a fantastic job, I think both of them are solid favorites for Bryant Park.

When Joe won, however, I was reminded of Kayne's win in the Miss USA challenge - IIRC he said "I won the tackiest challenge in Project Runway history." Well, this challenge definately topped that one for tackiness, and Joe's Jersey asthetic, which I have hated most of the season, was perfect for this. I still think most of his stuff is crap, though, but I do think it was great karma that the somewhat-homophobic Joe got the one client who could probably have bitch-slapped him and beat the snot out of him on the football field.

"We want to fuck Varla Jean Merman"

Who can blame you. She's was kind like a twist on that old Secret deodarant commerical. Varla Jean's strong and studly as a man and faboo as a woman.

I agree that this clicked. Half the battle was to create something that fit the persona. Also Joe managed to slip his sports bakgound into the outfit. Yes Varla gave him the sailor idea but he immediately recognised what a good idea that was and adjusted it. It would be no different than if Tim made the suggestion and he ran with it.

And yes he had no problem fitting a hot man's ass. Then again he does have to design all that athletic attire :)

RuPaul was a good judge. I like the way she really articulated the good and bad elements and she gave the snark..."Dingo"

Frank

That's called "listening to your client" and we can't fault him one bit for that.

Exactly. And what clients have ever, in all five seasons, been as qualified to be so involved in the design and execution? Okay, maybe the figure skater, and that's about it. These clients have very specific needs, and they have to know better than anyone what will work and what won't. Bravo, Joe, for paying attention. And for whimsy. Hooray for whimsy!

Tlo:

I am wipeing the tears from my face, you are so funny. The comment about the accessories not being from the BlueFly wall is priceless. I loved the episode and love this site.

Congratulations Joe! It was great!

I'm so glad Joe won this one, and the look of utter contempt on Terri's face when she found out she wasn't the winner was worth the price of admission.

Miss Varla is playing Provincetown, I understand. I'll have to swing down soon and try to catch her act. And no, boys, I don't blame you for being attracted. I thought he was super cute!

Also!

Between this guy and Chris Meloni... you two certainly have a "type".

Heavy-browed, beady-eyed, square-jawed, crew-cutted tough guys...

What's up with that?

"And god bless her heart, RuPaul should sue the lighting director of that show, that's all I'm saying."

Amen to that! DH turned to me at one point and said, "RuPaul is looking kinda Michael Jackson-ish, don't you think?"

Love that my fabulous Varla took the evening.

And, Tom & Lorenzo, you are not alone. I've met Varla as Jeffery up in P'Town, and she is all man out of a dress and heels. My friend Ted dated him for a while, and we were all so jealous.

It's called "taste."

Maybe I'm the only one, but I thought that the oversized belt buckle drew attention to the part of the body that the judges thought it was hiding. It drew my eye down to the crotch and reminded me "that's a man."

I loved Varla Jean and I loved Joe with the boobies on! AND I LOVE SISSYBEAR THIS EPISODE WAS SO GREAT :]

Hahaha, glad to see I'm not the only one who was crushing on Varla Jean as a man.
Soooo glad Joe won. He really deserved this one.
Terri's was just meh to me. I don't think she was robbed one bit.

"No need for a drag version of Michael Kors since it would be pretty much redundant."

Once again, bwahahahahahaha!

I echo the comments of everyone else -- any of the top three could have won. But there's something so sweet about Hetero Joe winning this challenge, that it just seems perfect.

It's funny, this is the first challenge in five seasons that my hubby and I were able to call the placement of the looks as they came down the runway with 100% accuracy -- "Middle, Top, Bottom, Middle, Middle, Bottom, Top..." That has less to do with our prowess than with a challenge that was couched in such a specific aesthetic, and suited to such distinct personalities.

And, damn, if RuPaul wasn't the most articulate guest judge of the season. I think she should create a new drag persona "Anne Blowey" and join "Meana" and "Michelle Coors Light" as a regular judge!

TLo said:

LOL

Touche!

Congrats to Joe on his win! This was indeed one of the best PR challenges ever. I think the drag queens really added to the episode. They brought the final touch to the garments not just by their accessories, but by their personalities. Had those queens not worked it, those garments would have been just an over the top heap of sequins and stretchy fabric.

I don't think Korto was robbed, the fit looked a bit wierd and a bit too short.

This was hands down my favorite episode of the season so far. I know some people dont like the over the top challenges, but in this case, I think it worked really well as a nice way to get the designers to just kick out and go wild. And it was really nice to see a winner picked that actually was hard for me to choose...rather than a few previous episodes where it felt like it was just "well this is the least mediocre of the set".

Congrats Joe! I was admittedly worried for him, but he tackled this challenge like a champ.

If you love Varla Jean Merman, make sure to check out the DVD "Girls Will Be Girls" and the webisodes of the same name. She's absolutely brilliant!

bitchybitchybitchy

I loved Varla Jean Merman-and Joe's design. It was a kick to see Joe move way out of his comfort zone, and design an outfit that suited his client so perfectly...damn, but she did give off an Ann-Margret vibe!

And, in general, wasn't it fabulous to see models who actually know how to work a runway??????

It just dawned on me who Varla Jean reminds me of...John Lithgow in World According to Garp.

SisterZip

So many fabulous moments in this episode! My favorite may be when Blayne did the Wookie sound when he was talking about Keith's dress. Or, maybe he was talking about Keith...Varla Jean is my new role model and nice job, Joe and Korto.

I have to admit that Alex himself is adorable, so there you have it.

;)

I would love to know what the PRG crew answer to the poll question last night.

Who would you rather see in drag??

Tim Gunn
Michael Kors

"It just dawned on me who Varla Jean reminds me of...John Lithgow in World According to Garp."

OH. MY. GOD. Brilliant.

Btw, was anyone else hoping for a Stella/Acid Betty team up?

Loved it-- actually I loved the whole episode!

Varla Jean felt fabulous in it on the runway and genuinely worked it.
Joe listened, and developed an outfit perfect for her.

He did deserve the win!

I only recently found Varla Jean in the movie Girls Will Be Girls which I rented for Jack Plotnick's Evie Harris & Clinton Leupp's Coco Peru. Varla steals the show.

Gorgeous things, I think Rupaul was looking more Latoya Jackson than Michael.

Oh and John Lithgow in Garp.

Too funny ! I completely agree !

I have a huge crush on Varla Jean--both as a man AND a woman. I know, I'm in the hoardes here but still....talk about c h a r i s m a! I said it before (last night) and I'll say it again--give the girl her own show!

The best part of the episode is how many more people now know about Varla Jean. She was just delicious last night. I want more!

And RuPaul looked okay to me...like an aging RuPaul, that's all. The hair was a hot mess, yes, but I think he was going for a "lady who works in fashion" look.

Lelê. said...

Never trust a man who poses in pictures with cats. That's all I'm saying.

Just when I thought I had finally sorted my sexuality out...why o why did Varla Jean Merman have to come and confuse me all over again??

I know I'll be the only one to say this but this was my least favorite episode in PR history. I found it all so boring. BORING. And what was the purpose of brining in Chris when Ru Paul was going to judge? It was all about the drags and not the clothes.

"Between this guy and Chris Meloni... you two certainly have a "type".

LOL! Back off, Boys, this straight chick will cut you for a chance at Mr. Meloni!

Missed the ep so hurry up with more pics and witticisms!!

OMG. I forgot about the Chewbacca remark! Loved it! Thanks for the reminder anonymous at 10:25. I was in such a deep depression over Daniel that I nearly forgot how funny most of the evening was.

Congratulations, Joe! It was so enjoyable to watch a designer so clearly out of his comfort zone pull up his boxers and get to work. He managed to listen to the challenge criteria, listen to his client, create a fabulous outfit and have a blast doing it.

It was especially fun watching him come out of his man-shell and get a little playful. See? Straight guys are people too!

Oh, and someone needs to tell RuPaul to stop--

she looks nothing like she used to
I found that very sad.

Can we replace the regular models with the queens? After last night, it's going to be depressing going back to those anorexic, vapid models.

Varla is magnificent.

And I don't think Joe is as much of a homophobe as everyone is portraying him to be. He was genuinely focused on his client, taking extra special care to get the fit and look just right. He explained that Varla had to leave behind her bra so that he could accurately use the male dress form. He was into the technical aspects of the challenge and didn't seen skeeved out in any way.

I do have one criticism of Joe's outfit, beyond the twisty zipper. Much like when in Jaws, Roy Schieder says, "I think we need a bigger boat," I really think Joe and Varla could have used a bigger life preserver.

I, too, am glad we saw the un-made-up boys. The first time I saw RuPaul un-made up. They are all naturally charming, but it also gives everyone insight into the incredible transformation they go through. L'Oreal Hair and Makeup Room, my ass!

I thought RuPaul looked a little gaunt last nightm but his critiques were spot on.

i loved this show and your response. fyi...i am glad to see you guys caught the blush and reaction to nina. what they say is true...you dont miss a thing!!!!!!!!!

best episode ever

She does! It's a very funny movie. I loved it!

Way to man up, Joe! He really knocked this one out of the park (obvious straight male reference)! When Joe first met Varla Jean, the attraction was obvious. Then when Jeffrey returned ... well, the attraction was obvious.

i wish they'd do a special edition of this episode, with WAY more footage added in (like, maybe 2 hours? or three?). i could have watched this crew for days.

i LOVED Terri's outfit. but Joe's was fab - well, beyond fab - as well, and I wasn't displeased with his win. i sort of liked how he was kind of stunned and uncomfortable initially, but then totally got into the groove of things, and pulled off a killer look.

i wish it was Project DragQueen every week. best episode, ever.

and thank you GOD for finally cutting Daniel and his impeccable taste loose. man's got talent, but this was SO the wrong venue for him to showcase himself.

and - i loved seeing the queens out of drag. it was - well, damn, it's amazing what some makeup, foundation garments, a wig and some sequins can do.

Echoing the love of Rupaul as a guest judge. Her critiques were spot on and specific! Then, Bob Mackie used to make costumes for her and she obviously paid attention to a master of costume design.

BEST EPISODE EVER!
I enjoyed it so much; I came to work with a big smile on my face.
Hilarious, post, boys. And I'll take a number on the "I would fuck Varla Jean" line.

It just dawned on me who Varla Jean reminds me of...John Lithgow in World According to Garp.

As other people have said... brilliant observation!

I thought RuPaul looked ill, as in "diagnosed with something terminal" ill. Her website shows her with horrible makeup and looking whiter than Beyonce après-L'Oreal.

Good for Joe, he deserved the win.

It was so nice to see how well Joe and Varla worked together. What a perfect pair for this challenge.
I was dying to read your first post on this one, Tlo! This is hilarious and thank you for the fab closeups.

Varla was hot (and I'm a girl) I love the silly giggly drag persona -- it was so sweet! -- and the buzzcut gymboy body!

My favorite part was when Varla was looking at herself in the mirror during the fittings, did the salute, and said "don't ask don't tell!"

Varla Jean is fab.

Terri was robbed.

Joe was a clear winner last night. I'll reserve comments on the others for later, but you nailed what was right about it -- what the client wanted, feminine, charming and superbly well-fitted. Great idea and great execution and way to work with a client with whom you have only some dangly bits in common.
Someone said yesterday that ironically his background in menswear might have helped him in this challenge. That might be true, and now I only wish they would redo the olympic challenge, this time with Joe desiging for the men. Booty call!

OMG! OMG! OMG!

(Squealing again like a teenage girl in Bye, Bye Birdie)!

Always have liked Varla Jean! Kitchy but not too Bitchy! Funny and Intelligent, Retro and Glammy ....

But to see her out of drag !!!! OMG! OMG! OMG! Such a big tall HUNK OF MAN.

HUNKA - licious, as Blayne would say.

And I gave Joe the win too, even though Terri was pretty pissed.
Great outfit for Acid Betty, but way too much going on ...

That pant suit, come on!!! Those TITS, those legs, THAT ASS!!!

He is a HUNKY man and a bodacious homage to Ann Margeret (drop an octave) - on steroids.

Loved it-

Just sayin-

P.S. Hedda Luttuce was a piece of work, but I AGREED with her, the look was a bit Godzilla-ish.

P.P.S. Daniel is kinda cute, in that young, clueless, gay boy kinda way - but he had to go ... That dress looked like it came from the Emmy dress for what's her face competition from Season 1.

Just glad that Daniel found a cute boyfriend out of the competition, cause he just didn't cut it.

P.P.P.S. Speaking of cutting it, Keith needs to just cut it out. He is a one note, one trick pony, even if he is cute and hunky and I want to ride him all night and put him up wet.

P.P.P.P.S. Gotta agree with Gotham Tomato: RuPaul was a great judge, but he was looking ROUGH last night ... like he was caught working the streets for his hormone shots, as he said himself.

Just sayin-

Hmmm, a Project Costumer, of a sorts, with Chris March as mentor.

This has merit. In addition to drag queens we could add in
different performers - circus, redesign and update Broadway characters and shows, beauty queens, professional cheerleaders, ballroom dancing, ice skating and ice dancing, cabaret...

Congratulations, Joe! Your drag queen looked gorgeous!

"BigAssBelle said...

Could you elaborate on that? The "robbed" comment is getting old.

Awesome episode! I was like 'oh my god Tlo must be loving this!' the whole time : )
Joe did a great job! Who knew he had a little bit of drag in him?
Terri and Korto did a great job too.

I agree with everyone's concerns about RuPaul. I was shocked by her appearance. I think she's maybe had some unfortunate surgery (bad cheek implants and one nose job too many?), and the wig was bad, but I was also concerned by how gaunt she was... does anyone know if she is ill?

I squeeeeed pretty loudly last night at Varla's appearance -- my friend played a small part in Girls Will Be Girls, so I recognized Varla right away. (Aforementioned friend affirms that Jeff/Varla is a very nice person and hot, to boot. Of course, we all figured that out!)

Great outfits in the top three, but Varla sold the shit out of that thing on the runway. I did like Acid Betty's painted chest, though. We don't get nipple shots as often as we should on this show! :)

Terri was NOT robbed... she had too much going on.

The queen was lost in all the drag.

Adored Terri's outfit. LOTS of movement-- and they did want over the top, no? It fit Acid Betty's persona to a T. Definitely more a club-kid look than a drag look (she repeated from reading through T-lounge), which explains it being a little more 'androgynous', but that was the persona.

It was a lot of look. I would have been happy had it won.

That said-- I'm thrilled that Joe took this one! He took something dubious (expanse of pink sparkles) and dressed it up adorably. Loved the proportions, loved the sailor motif, LAAAAHVED the model. VJM rocks okay. He and Terri were my top two.

Korto definitely deserved to be in the top three, but for me, personally, it was just too much Red Sequin when that skirt came off. (Interesting that it kind of invoked a candy wrapper-- or maybe I was just going mmm, sugar.) Sweetie loved it. Grats, Korto.

Honorable mention: Stella, my mental BFF, I love you more and more each week. It might be over the top for a straight woman to wear that; just the same, I would like one in my size, please. Leave the linebacker shoulders, I have those.

This episode was just joyful.

Agree with the poster who said that Joe didn't seem that homophobic. Everyone's giving him a hard time over that "too many queens" comment, and he probably deserves it for that, but overall I don't see a homophobia.

Anyway, great episode...but, yes, I'm one of those who think Terri was robbed again. Honestly, though Joe's look was fabulous and suited the client perfectly...I feel like anybody could have made it.

Not anybody could do what Terri did. That outfit was hot as hell. So many elements...all FINISHED and all WORKING TOGETHER. And I totally don't know why some of the posters here don't seem to like Terri. She's great.

I kind of feel like Joe won it because he did, by far, have the drag queen with the best personality. (I did like Hedda Lettuce, though...despite her bitchy comment to Suede.) If Terri's model had been more classically drag and actually showed her personality, maybe that would've helped.

Can't believe Jerrell was in the bottom instead of 'Licious. Thought the shoddy construction would really count against him. The girl looked like she was wearing a cheap mardi gras costume.

Loved seeing Chris again. He's just the sweetest man. I think he was probably "off" on the runway because of that gi-normous honking viking helmet he was trying to balance on his head. He's probably not used to wearing his costumes and being a TV personality at the same time. And he really is knowledgeable, too...TLo's right when they say his critiques were spot on. Hope to see more of him someday.

To be honest, Joe lucked out by getting one of the top fabulous queens. There were quite a few ladies out there whose personalities dried up on the runway. Varla Jean sure wasn't one of them!

But Joe's outfit was a slam dunk. Terri's? No way? Kotto's? Almost. Bravo, straight guy.

Thank you for those shots of Varla, Boys! She is FABULOUS! I'm in love with him, her, him!
I knew Joe was going to win the minute I saw Chris' reaction in the workroom.

tom in kc: It's funny, this is the first challenge in five seasons that my hubby and I were able to call the placement of the looks as they came down the runway with 100% accuracy -- "Middle, Top, Bottom, Middle, Middle, Bottom, Top..."

I misread that and was wondering what a middle was...

Joe got the most fabulous drag queen out there. Lucky straight boy!

YAY! Joe is a winner : )
I love Pasta Joe!

I can not for the life of me remember what Kenley/Betty's outfit looked like. After I turned off the t.v. last night, I was like, "wait, what'd she make?"

Can someone remind me, please?

"Terri's 'displeasure' was more than a little evident, wasn't it? She looks like the kind of chick who keeps a razor beneath her tongue." --- the divine miss m

Lololol, miss m. Also loved your RuPaul and "Pink" hair lotion comment. Yeah, Terri does seem to be getting the overlooked and underappreciated, "I'm gonna cut the next designer to rob me of what's rightfully mine" edit. I still like her though, but just try to remind myself that the Magical Elves are trying to make a story out every little gesture, look and comment these people make.

- edina -

I think Joe nailed it, the fit was amazing and it fit Varla's personality to a tee.

Congrats to Joe!

Joe's Jersey asthetic,

Hey the boys from DETROIT, not Jersey. A world of difference.

All the more to be congratulated for the supurb outfit he created.

oooh you really made my day!! Project Dragway!!! jaaaaaaa!!!!
Thank you!! love you!

I was stunned at how awful RuPaul looked. Dragged backwards through a knot-hole. But s/he made a damned good judge, and I loved her comments. Short, snappy, to the point, and eye-opening about what to look for. Good expert judge.

Esther, Kenley made a silver sparkly gown with black and white feathers glued dramatically to the back, forming a big collar type thing. It was a little Vegas showgirl.

Gadzzz, I loved this challenge from start to finish!

It was great that Varla Jean was constructive in critiquing Joe's garment (as opposed to Hedda Lettuce's comments of Suede's work). I noticed that Joe had a more comfortable time communicating man-to-man with Jeffrey, rather than man-to-drag queen Varla Jean. Whatever, it gave him the win. And Varla Jean was adorable working that costume on the runway. They were such a good team.

Don't think Terri got robbed---I did not like the yellow things hanging from her geisha queen.

Loved Leanne's, actually.

~Maharhar

Thank god Defensive Daniel's out of here! The egotistical whining and whimpering was getting old.

Now I'm not a drag critique professional but I have been going on my summer vacations to Provincetown ever since I was born (24 yrs now) and Joe nailed drag queen right on the head (who would've thought) and Varla worked it with that tight little but of hers! Terri's had was too much going on and while drag is over the top there is a polish, perfection and an overwhelming need to exude femininity. Terri's was far from that.
-K

I don't think Terri got robbed, but she and Korto were a close second and third. Joe finally stepped out into his own I'm glad he did he had kinda been in the background far too long. On the zipper think I think almost everyone zipper worked sucked this week...see Kenley's dress which I thought was blah.

Smoking Joe Fan

Got to agree with those of you who did not see what was great about Teri's outfit. It looked like a rag-tag assortment to me - maybe she is being infected by Keith??

And she certainly thinks "her **** don't stink" as said Keith stated last week.

She is getting on my nerves. Maybe after Keith gets AUFED next week, she will be next!

I can't BELIEVE that this entire episode played out without the words "hot tranny mess" being uttered by anyone ...

But how fun! Loved seeing Chris March again.

This was my MOST favorite of any episode in any PR season!! Loved seeing Chris (was he not a GREAT mentor?), loved Varla Jean (very hot as male OR female..woo woo), loved Joe's design for Varla, loved RuPaul as always. What an excellent judge, but I was concerned about her appearance. Loved seeing Daniel finally auf'd.
Now when is Keith going to get the boot for constantly putting remnants and rags on the runway??
Wunderbar comments as usual TLo!!!
----StkrShock

"Leah said...

Because that's VERY offensive.

Varla's world... and we're all average by comparison

I loved this episode!

I am among those who think Terri should have won, and, in the heat of the moment, used the word "robbed". In the cold light of day, however, I'll reduce the charge to petty theft. Joe did do a good job, and I think you comment that "Joe . . . deserves a lot of credit for working so far outside his comfort zone" is right on the money.

They need to kick the wannabe supermodels to the curb and use drag queens every week. Those girls know how to work the runway!

Daniel was completely delusional. He didn't want to do "gaudy" for a drag queen? Go away!

Love Varla, can't say I love this outfit, but she did so what the hey.
I actually thought little Judy N. was the clear winner.

We want to fuck Varla Jean Merman.

Oddly enough, I do too.

You left out my favorite part! "My queen left me her boobs."

The outfit was brilliant - kudos to Joe.

This was a great episode!! Loved everything about it. It was great that any of top three would have been good for the win but I think Joe's was great. Good for him for listening and pulling off a great look. And Varla Jean loved it and worked it on the runway. Has anyone seen Ving Rhames in drag? His shoulders reminded me of Varla's.

I tell you, TLo, you and ToddNY, all over Keith until someone fabulous like Varla (she/he) comes along.

RuPaul was a great judge; spot on observations and really knows her stuff. I saw her at a benefit about a year ago and I swear she looked much better. I'll have to look for the pictures when I get home.

Hey Boys,

Can I come over when you inevitably meet Varla Jean. His attractiveness as a male made me feel all funny inside.

Didn't I see Jerrell's lizard doutfit in the OBC of STARMITES?

Hmmmmm....let's see.... who's that tall Marine? Oh, it's Varla Jean! Wow. Good physique, excellent posture, great bone structure, good skin, excellent ideas, a discerning eye..... Varla Jean has it all. Crush on, Boys, Crush on!!

I'm glad Joe won. It's about time. He's super capable.

If people think Joe is homophobic, they should have seen him out at Barracuda last Friday night...

Not saying he's gay - but having two daughters doesn't automatically make one straight, now, does it?

Add me to the list of those who want to fuck Varla Jean. Hot as a man, classic as a DQ, all wrapped up in wit and style...

"Nina, STOP....!"

That line had me howling with laughter, had to rewind it and it was just as fun the second time!

"Like, Nina, you're EMBARASSING me, I KNOW I'm fabulous, your effusive praise is just a BIt much...!"

Love Varla, easily the best in show.

The more I look at those pics of Varla and see how hot his/her bod is, I am getting very warm . . .

My neighbor and I both cheered out loud and clapped when Joe won. Good for him! Daniel could take a lesson from Joe about working outside your comfort zone. When Joe first proposed pants, I said, "He's going home". Then he danced around in that bra and how hilarious was that?! And when he admitted that he was having a hard time wrapping his head around the whole idea but figured it out anyway, it was utterly charming and refreshing. If his daughters were old enough to watch this show, they'd be so proud.

Varla Jean is fabulous in and out of costume. In fact, out of costume I could swear this was a man I used to date. Drool, swoon, pant!

Joe listened to his client and that's exactly why he won. This might not have been the challenge he started off most comfortable with, but a win is a win and has a way of changing a boy's mind, doesn't it?

Sissybear, oh Sissybear, walking off into the scrim with Heidi, talking about plans for later, that was cute. And I thought his critiques with Tim later were fantastic. He was kind, offered advice, and politely moved on.

Sigh. I was a happy girl last night.

Terri's was awesome for A drag queen. Joe's was awesome for HIS drag queen. The right designer won.

Varla Jean won this for Joe in my opinion. Bitch worked it out.

i wish they'd do a special edition of this episode, with WAY more footage added in (like, maybe 2 hours? or three?). i could have watched this crew for days

i second that!!! this was a great episode. i LOVED seeing the drag queens in their man-wear. it was fun to see how they transformed. i loved varla jean & love what joe did for her. when the show started my hubby was doing something else and came in just in time to see the runway show...he was a little shocked when i told him "you understand that they are GUYS don't you?" he just said "Dayam, some of them are HOT!"

great post, tlo!

Joe was the right one to win for the reasons T Lo said. Varla looked great, very curvy, but also like a drag queen.

I wouldn't have put either Korto or Terri in the top 3 though. Korto's outfit made a heavy short gal look shorter and heavier with the flames near the already giant boobs and a big pouf around the hips and butt. Like Tim, I don't get the love for Terri's. The parts that were the best like the boots are things Acid Betty must have brought with her. The rest seemed like a Japanese version of Carol Burnett's Gone with the Wind dress.

I'd have put Leanne in the top 3. I think she's getting overlooked more than Terri. And the queens were a hoot. Which is good because the designers are rather joyless in comparison.

Varla Jean's got the tightest ass I've ever seen. And she's smokin' hot as either gender!

Joe was the clear winner for all the reasons TLo stated. I loved Terri's look too but it didn't really say "drag" to me - it was theatrical and over the top but didn't quite hit the mark. It looked more like a costume for an East Village Kabuki production than something for a drag queen. She certainly wasn't "robbed." Didn't care for Korto's look but Sweetie did and she worked it pretty well.

I didn't think RuPaul looked that bad - people do age, you know. Chris was great. I may actually watch this episode again - and I never do that.

Vertigo

My favorite line of the episode was Sissy Bear to Heidi: Let's go get some German food.

As I watched -- and screamed -- as the DQ's made their singular appearances I thought, "Mainstream America has no idea what a treasure trove of cult goddesses they're being acquainted with this evening." Varla Jean? Hedda Lettuce? And excuse me, but why no big introduction for the fantabulous (although looking like bedraggled hell last night) RuPaul? I was so offended by that. Everyone squeals over Brooke Shields or SJP and RuPaul gets a mellow, "Oh, hey."
That is just wrong.

Joe fell in love with VJ, you can tell. And didn't we all. I had the same thought about the John Lithgow in "Garp" similarity. GREAT episode.

I really enjoyed all the contrasts in this episode. My college-age daughter and I just about fell off the couch when the queens showed up in their everyday guises, then turned up ready to be transformed the next morning. GREAT episode. They should do one a season.

It was wonderful to see Chris again as well. I loved all the top 3 looks, and actually agreed on the bottom 3 this time as well. So glad the Whiner is gone. Buh-bye Mr. Taste Level!

Congratulations to Joe, but look out for Terri -- she WILL cut you.

I was struck by Joe's reaction to the Queens walking out on the runway at the beginning of the show. They kept showing him with that huge grin on his face and to me it looked like he was having the time of his life. There was a lot of just sitting there taking it in from some of the other designers.

I think that part of what won this for him was his going into it with a sense of play because he felt so out of his element that it was the only alternative. And thinking of it in terms of designing a costume for his daughters was a great way to relate the challenge to something in his real life.

I think Varla's outfit worked on so many levels. Elegant and sexy, campy and subversive, especially when Varla evoked Don't Ask, Don't Tell. You could see the wheels turning when she was doing her fitting, she was already planning out the number she would do in it.

Good for Joe for finding his inner queen!

BrianB

Leanne's getting overlooked a lot, too, no doubt about it. But I really thought Terri hit it out of the park this time. And it WAS right for her drag queen, too...very similar rocker aesthetic to what she had on when they met.

I think Chris was actually so blinded by his brassiere that he couldn't get his lines out- Heidi had to lead him off the runway after the challenge was presented.

And Varla Jean, who I only knew from NoLa experiences...wow. I am going to be having some very confusing dreams in the coming days. Such lightswitch hotness.

Good for Joe. Who knew he had it in him. I had the same reaction to Varla Jean as you boys did. Grrrrrrr.

"Everyone squeals over Brooke Shields or SJP and RuPaul gets a mellow, "Oh, hey."
That is just wrong"

That's another reason I thought RuPaul was ill... maybe just not up to doing a lot of working the room.

Don't get me wrong, the episode was hilarious, and I thoroughly enjoyed the runway show. It rankled though, to think of the fact that someone could be eliminated for making a crappy drag queen dress. People were saying that the wrestling challenge was tacky and stupid, and kind of useless in terms of the design that most of these people will be going into, and I agreed. And then it's drag queens, and everything's FABULOUS?!

Sounds kind of hypocritical to me. As fun as that episode was, it was so filler, and I think that it was kind of stupid that someone would get eliminated for that type of challenge (although Daniel clearly had to go).

As a woman I'm wondering if there are any straight Drag Queens out there?

I'd sure love to hook me one. If they all look like THAT out of drag....hubba hubba!

It's the best of both worlds, Hot man who can also help with my hair and make-up. As long as his ass isn't smaller than my own :)

I wouldn't throw him outta bed for borrowing my water bra...

Then again I have always had an unexplained love of the drag queens. Hedwig and Pricilla are 2 of my all time favorite movies. I've watched them both at least 50 times each. All of those guys are hot out of drag too. Hedwig is dreamy as a man.

Mystia, drag queens are gay by definition. A drag queen is a gay man who dresses up as a woman to parody femininity. A straight man who dresses up as a woman is a transvestite (and usually does it for sexual kicks). If a straight 'man' dresses up as a woman because he wants to BE a woman, well...SHE is a a transgendered lesbian. Confusing, I know lol.

When Varla Jean gave that "Good Ship Lollipop" salute, with that cocked little hat , I actually cheered , and How cute was that life-saver ring shaped belt buckle?
DebraKay

Great episode this week I loved it!
Joe did a great Job.

Joe may have a new calling!

He seriously should consider doing some costume design back home. I think the fun & fantasy could help him loosen up and bit. His regular design work could use a little fabulous, no?

Good for him.

Varla Jean is a doll. The perfect client.

-- desertwind

WTG, Joe! I had a tough time deciding between his outfit and Terri's amazing design but when Varla Jean marched onto the runway she took my straight girl heart with her. (How many butt crunches does that girl do every day?)

I liked how Joe said, "I'm just going to have fun with it," while other designers fretted and overanalyzed things. Who would have guessed the alpha-straight male of the group would have taken this. He certainly has redeemed himself for his dismal performance in the Brooke Shields challenge.

As an aside, why didn't they play up RuPaul's participation? The lighting on him was awful and they even edited it so the participants gave lackluster responses when they introduced him. This is RUPAUL, people! RUPAUL!

first time poster...long time reader...

This episode I just had to say LOVED IT!!! I agree...BEST EPISODE EVER!

And when Varla took off her bangs for Joe I just about died laughing =)

Another fav was "Licious" in Daniels dress saying he looked like a Rocket Pop!
There were just to many fun moments to even list them all.
Keep up the great work!

Loved it. Joe nailed it.

During a night where there were so many great lines, I have to say I loved Nina's: "Your outfit certainly shows offer her...assets."

Count me as another congratulating Joe. Korto and Terri did great too, but Joe's was so much fun...

Oy... please, nothing wrong if you want to fuck him. Varla Jean is hot! His/her ass looked great in that tight outfit. If I were Joe I would have grabbed it during the fitting session. Hee hee.

Can we now start a lobbying campaign for VarlaJean to start in a remake of "Bye Bye Birdie"? HELLO, Bravo!!!!! Just imagine VJ vamping through "It's lovely to be a woman" ....sigh....

And who could we get to play Conrad Birdie?

SisterZip

THIS IS THE BEST EPISODE EVER.
I NEW NOTHING ABOUT DRAG QUEENS PREVIOUSLY AND I NOW THINK THAT THEY ARE THE MOST FABULOUS CREATURES WALKING THE PLANET.

AND THERE IS SOMETHING SEXY ABOUT A STRAIGHT MAN THAT COULD DESIGN A WINNING LOOK FOR THIS CHALLENGE. I'D TOTALLY FUCK JOE RIGHT NOW!!!!!

Imagine Jennifer doing this challenge, hahahahahahah!

oh and people think TERRI was robbed? HELL NO Leanne was.

ALSO WHAT WAS WITH LAURA BENNET ON MY TV SCREEN IN THE PREVIEW FOR THE NEXT EPISODE TLO??? YOU KNOW SOMETHING THAT WE DON'T!

ALSO RuPAUL was one of the best guest judges EVER.

Oh my god Varla is beyond fabulous. Those pictures are gorgeous! She is fierce. Congrats, Joe!

" Shauna said...

Apparently she's going to be one of the judges.

Varla is fierce! I'm in love with her.

I do think that there's an Anne Margaret channeling Vegas Elvis jumpsuit / catsuit waiting to be sewn.

Wrong it may be, but this straight girl also wouldn't mind taking a crack at Varla Jean.

I loved Terry's outfit, and Stella's, too, but I think giving Joe the win was the right decision.

And who could we get to play Conrad Birdie?

Nathan Lane. Or Murray Hill.

TLo Said:
Bravo should develop a drag version of the show to take its place. Project Dragway.

Apparently Logo channel is way ahead of them. Google RuPaul and "Drag Race". It's a new reality competition to find the next superstar drag queen. It's supposed to start airing in early 2009.

What I loved most about Joe this week is how quickly he went from "This is light years out of what I usually do" to "well, I guess it'll be like making something for my daughters" to "I'm gonna have a ball! Sequins, pink, fake titties, YAY"

Also, that screencap is priceless.

Please, please, can RuPaul be a judge every week???

Anyone who could watch that episode & not fall in love has no heart.

Hey the boys from DETROIT, not Jersey. A world of difference.

I didn't mean to imply Joe was from Jersey - he just designs tacky crap like he was from Jersey.

I really liked Joe's outfit last night, but I think he has been pretty pathetic throughout the season otherwise. His "inspiration" dress looked like a child's art project with those window panes glued on; I thought his Olympic hot pants (at least in the back) were completely inappropriate for the Opening Ceremonies, and I really can't remember anything else he's done.

Bailey, I know what you mean about your definitions of gay men being drag queens and straights being transvestites but I immediately flashed on Milton Berle, who was so well known for his drag performances. To me, the term transvestite just doesn't seem to work for him. I guess it's like for me, part of the definition of drag has to do with the performance angle of the attire.

One of the BEST evenings out I ever had was in 1994 at the Ultimate Drag Fest at Town Hall in NYC. It was part of the 25th anniversary of Stonewall celebrations that summer. Charles Busch and several other drag performers of note were there but the headliner was Mr. Berle who brought the house down and then had to be dragged (pardon the pun) off stage. And then suddenly Bea Arthur shows up! What a night!

BrianB

Lovelies, isn't a confession usually something we don't already know?

Who *doesn't* want to fuck Varla Jean Merman? YUM.

BrianB, yeah, I know what you mean. I think the difference is between "doing drag" and "being a drag queen." Milton Berle definitely did drag (so did Bugs Bunny! lol) but he is not a "drag queen." You know what I mean? Maybe? lol

My pitch to Bravo is for The Real Drag Queens of New York City .

They can cover Varla Jean and friends both in and out of drag. I don't know what the follow up cities will be: New Orleans? Atlanta? San Farancisco? Fargo?

That would be awesome!

Tlo's take on the movie is hilarious. You can see it here.

Ha! I read this and thought it was funny.

Michael Kors called Verla Jean the "Kirstie Alley of the drag queen world." Everything is about that fabulous face and at one time Verla Jean was a lot heavier but lost a lot of weight!

Damn I want a t-shirt that says "I want to fuck Varla"

HOT HOT HOT

Oh yes, the outfit is gorgeous, but can I have the candy now?

Also!

Between this guy and Chris Meloni... you two certainly have a "type".

Heavy-browed, beady-eyed, square-jawed, crew-cutted tough guys...

What's up with that?"

Alex, you're very yummy too : )

Joe pink sailor outfit was adorable, and Varla clearly loved wearing it. Congrats!

i'm not dorothy gale

Oh yes - this was just the BEST. Back in the (cough) 70's I went to a drag show with my sister, dressed to the nines. One of the gals(a ringer for Farrah Faucett) gave our fabulosity a shout out and invited us backstage to fix our hair.

The over-the-top hilarity of that evening came back to me when I watched this ep. Sissy bear's metal tits were stellar. Turn down the overheads, hit the spotlight, spin him around and we'd have "mirror balls" to dance by.....

Those drag queens were fabulous! I loved the episode. This was my favorite outfit. It was perfect for her.

Joe selecting Varla was the smartest decision he ever made. She is gorgeous and looks good in anything.

I pretty much liked the three top designs but Joe's was by far the best. Joe did deserve the win.

It didn't surprise me that Joe did so well with this challenge. His looks so far have definitely been on the "themey" side-- remember the pasta dress?-- so this was really right up his alley. What surprises me was that Jerrell did so poorly! But that is for another post...

Well played straight dude.
Oh BTW, there is much that we don't see. It is always possible that the producers gave the ladies a small allowance for accessories, which explains the anchors.

Can we please bury "not so much"? It makes me cringe that anyone still expects people to laugh at such a tired cliché.

This was a great episode. Let's face it though, Joe really lucked out in choosing Varla. She is super talented and really helped pull this off. A fun and great collaboration!!

We'll be sure to work it into every single one of our posts from now on.

he he he...

fabulous.

I don't really get some people's attempts to downplay Joe's win.

C'mon. Give credit where it's due!
He had fun.
He chose a client with whom he felt comfortable with and knew some of his work.
He listened to his client.
He thought about the challenge.
He executed it almost perfectly.
He pushed himself outside his comfort zone.
Oh, and again, he had fun!!!

The idea that Joe's win was because he chose the correct client-- I don't know about that. I think a lot of getting it right (in acting, too) is making it seem like X is the best solution or the definitive solution.

I loved last night's episode . . . I think Joe definitely deserved to win . . . I also wish I could have a Chris March laugh ringtone on my cellular phone . . . It would brighten my day every time it rang.

I want to tape the episode next time it's on . . . I think it would be a great little pick-me-up on those days when I need a bit of fun.

I believe the correct person won . . . Frankly, I was impressed with how well many of them did . . . Koto's outfit was terrific . . . although, I thought Terri's outfit was less drag queen and a bit too "Kiss-does-Kabuki" glam rock.

A good, fun episode!

I loved the episode along with everyone else. :-D

RuPaul - Got that Skeletor look going on...not a good sign...but, oh baby, way to rip it with the "Dingo" comment!

Terri - At first I thought this was too much anime and too little geisha. Looking at the photo on the Bravo website, I still think that, but have a better opinion of it overall than last night.

Korto - that's what I picked as the very, very close second.

Stella - how disappointed that woman must have been to see some of her best potential material walk off with other designers. There were at least two others Stella could have used to knock it out of the park.

Daniel - yeah, whatever. Go home already. In two weeks I'll have to look up your photo on the Bravo website to remember what you looked like.

Blayne - you're a tool who doesn't have a sense of humor.

Chris March - Seeing him again totally made my day. :-)

mmm...mmm...mmm
i wanna bite that apple of an ass

Joe made us all fall a little in love with Varla Jean...or maybe it was Varla Jean out of makeup that did that. Uhem...either way, he did a fantastic job and she SOLD it on the runway. I really loved what Terri did but she acted a little too obviously pissed when she didn't win!

And thankthelord Daniel is finally gone.

Although I still think that Terri's outfit was more creative and original, I did like Joe's jumpsuit for Varla Jean, very much. That was a great match-up, and I totally agree that Joe deserves kudos for actually taking the client's input seriously. 'Bout damn time someone did. Getting pretty tired of the many designers this season who refuse to move even an inch to the east or an inch to the west. Bunch of Zax, this group.

Okay, I gotta say it too. I would do Varla anyday. He sold the hell out of that outfit; it really shows when the clients LOVE what they're wearing. I think that was what also sunk Daniel; his model didn't work that dress at all.

But I have to call Stella out on something. Granted, I liked her execution, but all she did was a riff on Jillian and VictorYA's trench from last season. I was really disappointed and expected so much more from her.

And who could we get to play Conrad Birdie?

How about Lea deLaria?

I'm very happy that Joe won. The jumpsuit was a great idea and it was perfectly executed. I love all the accessories she used to sassy it up. What a great episode!

Here are my casting choices:

Kim MacAfee: VarlaJean
Conrad Birdie: Max Cherinofsky
Mr. MacAfee: Nathan Lane
Mrs. MacAfee: Chita Rivera
Albert: Alex!
Albert's Mother: Rosie O'Donnell
Rosie: Charlotte D'Amboise
Hugo: One of those Jonas twits
Ursula: Kathy Griffin
Ed Sullivan: Tim Gunn"

LOL. I love it, Gotham!

Varla worked the shit out of that jumpsuit! I so want to see her live. She's fabulous. Where does she usually perform?

I was glad Joe won the challenge. I think he really embraced his queen and her ideas. I definitely think Terri did a fantastic job too. It was hard for me to pick my favorite, but I ended up choosing Joe.

Someone made a good point I forget where: a drag queen challenge and the bottom three designers are all gay? And ONLY straight guy in the group wins? LOL. How ironic!

Can we now start a lobbying campaign for VarlaJean to start in a remake of "Bye Bye Birdie"? HELLO, Bravo!!!!! Just imagine VJ vamping through "It's lovely to be a woman" ....sigh....

That would be awesome!

Tlo's take on the movie is hilarious. You can see it here."

Thank you for the link, Bettie. That was hilarious!

Kudos to Joe and Varla Jean, a match made in drag heaven.
