"Christian Siriano is launching a maternity collection. And good morning! Though he's showing his regular collection on September 11 during Fashion Week, he's already got a full maternity line under his belt for spring 2009. Siriano teamed up with his two friends Marta Abrams and Elise Rosemarin, founders of Moody Mamas maternity clothes, to create a collection called Fierce for Moody Mamas by Christian Siriano. "

He's had such success designing for real bodies this seems like the logical next step. (insert dripping sarcasm emoticon here.)
8/19/08, 10:07 AM
Well, what better to compliment the bump than 4-inch wedge sandals?
8/19/08, 10:56 AM
I'm over Christian. Have been for awhile (not sure I was ever too excited about him), but I think the maternity line is pretty cool. I always thought PR should do a maternity wear challenge, and have been disappointed it hasn't. Especially with Heidi being such a lovely pregnant woman on such a regular basis!
8/19/08, 11:02 AM

BWAHH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!
(tears rolling down cheeks)
Thanks for the laugh guys from the new mom

Maternity wear can get all the help it can even from someone considered "over exposed" like Christian. A pregnant woman can only deal with so many empire waisted tops and dresses for so long...
8/19/08, 11:16 AM
Yes, because pregnant women need puffy sleeves and oh, yes, SKINNY PANTS!
8/19/08, 11:18 AM
Uhhh...I'm not seeing any puffysleeves or skinny pants in those sketches.
8/19/08, 11:23 AM
I'm excited and happy for him. It will be quite interesting to see them since he doesn't specialize in "sellable" clothes. It's great to see someone from project runway to be so busy as well.
8/19/08, 11:27 AM
God I am so sick of Christian Siriano. The only thing he designed on the show were dumbed-down Alexander McQueen retreads, and gee, guess who Princess happened to have interned for. Yawn. His greatest asset was his ability to sew quickly and well, not his "unique vision." Blaaaah. These clothes are boring.
8/19/08, 11:54 AM
"A pregnant woman can only deal with so many empire waisted tops and dresses for so long.." A pregnant woman can deal with anything for about 5 months (6 if you show early).
I wonder if this means Posh is preganant?
8/19/08, 11:58 AM
WOW!
8/19/08, 12:07 PM
Does the Princess even know where babies come from?
8/19/08, 12:28 PM
I don't understand the reason for this -- is Posh pregnant???
Auntie L
8/19/08, 12:32 PM
Gods this kills me... but... but...
I kinda like the look. No way I could pull it off when we decide to finally spawn, but... you put it on a non-stacked little girl with a baby bump and it could, maybe, kinda, sorta work.
I need a shower.
Possibly a drink.
8/19/08, 12:37 PM
I see he's taking the puffy sleeve bit and making puffy mid-sections.
I'd be interested to know how he's going to handle swollen ankles, fat arms, large breasts, thicker necks, and all that comes with gaining water & weight.
8/19/08, 1:15 PM
The drawings indicate that he has no concept of what happens to a woman's chest when the hormones kick in. Any woman who started life as a B-cup or higher won't fit in those (as sketched.) And for those of us who started life with breasts that kid will never acknowledge, much less design for, I repeat my initial response:
BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.
(We won't even discuss loose joints / ankles and those shoes he's drawn.)
8/19/08, 1:17 PM
Just what every pregnant woman needs: Another reason to have morning sickness.

And this indicates that you haven't a clue about fashion. Fashion sketches aren't supposed to accurately represent the real body. They almost always present an idealized body. And get over the damn shoes. He's not producing a line of shoes. They're just there to complete the look.
8/19/08, 1:37 PM
Jesus. He wasn't my favorite designer but the reactions here are a little over the top.
8/19/08, 1:42 PM
We're glad Christian realizes that just because you're preggers doesn't mean you have to ditch your four-inch wedge heels.
I never did!
8/19/08, 1:45 PM
You can say what you want about him (and T/LO knows that you all do) but he has done more than any other Project Runway winner has - and I think it's because he has so much energy -- I like the looks, too.
8/19/08, 1:50 PM
I need an epidural.
8/19/08, 1:52 PM
whoa.
THIS IS AWESOME.
Ya'll can bitch and moan about him all you want, but at least he's actually DOING SOMETHING to get bitched and moaned at about
I think this is really fun and going against the norm for christian

No, sweetie, what it indicates is that a ruffled top over an empire waist will look like open window louvres in month 6.
I think the line will be great for size 2 women with no tits, personal trainers and gala events to go to. Women shaped like boys are his target audience, and these clothes will be great for them.
8/19/08, 2:06 PM
Is the purple number in the top sketch a hospital gown? I'm not sure I'd want that much tootie showing until active labor.
8/19/08, 2:13 PM
I think the reactions here are way over the top. Whether you like the designs or not, it's great to see someone actually trying to create something new and pretty for pregnant women. I also happen to like the looks and am excited to see how they turn out.
8/19/08, 2:16 PM
I like the dresses and they would be good for the 1st and the beginning of the 2nd trimester but that is about it.
Wish him well!
8/19/08, 2:18 PM
I actually think the silouettes are appropriate for maternity. The empire is classic and sometimes there are decorative elements at the neckline or sleeve. The traditional thought process for maternity wear is to take the focus off of the lower body, which he did. Some of them might not be great for the 9th month(but come on not much is), some would probably be okay for nursing which would justify the price (assuming they are fairly expensive dresses).
Sus, I thought that purple one looked a little bare on the bottom half too. I think it's a jacket according to the article. I wonder why there isn't a bottom with it in the sketch.
8/19/08, 2:36 PM
I think the reactions on here are a little crazy? He is a good designer and does really well-executed looks. Sure, he has a style of his own and sure, it isn't for everybody. But I think there are pregnant women out there who will like the clothing, and I'm very happy for him.
8/19/08, 3:14 PM
the sketches look good. we'll see how they materialize.
8/19/08, 4:30 PM
From the article:
A Moody Mamas rep told us he signed on because he thought it would be great for a gay man to team up with two women who've never had a baby to do maternity clothes.
Pretty much sums it up.
8/19/08, 4:35 PM
Hmmmmmm.
8/19/08, 6:34 PM
oh please you sour old queens we haven't even seen photos of the finished product and you're already dissing his work.
stop complaining about christian designing for model bodies or stop snacking on twinkies.
8/19/08, 7:05 PM
well, it WILL be interesting -- not that i could have worn any of them -- of course, i looked like i was 6 months along at 16 weeks, but it's always nice to see at least an attempt at style for moms-to-be...
there are plenty of moms out there who barely show until late into pregnancy. at least i'm not seeing any skinny jeans in the collection! and by the way, i did continue wearing heels despite my huge tummy!
8/19/08, 7:41 PM
It's a bit hard to see, but I think the comment next to the purple thing calls it a sweater, which would explain why it's short.
8/19/08, 7:54 PM
cute, but he needs to work on the sketches.
Pregnant women have big bellies, not big butts. Unless of course she's carrying REALLY low....
8/19/08, 9:19 PM
I love that the last sketch on the right makes it look like the pregnant belly is balanced by a ginormous ass. In my world, that's what happened, but it doesn't happen to all women.
Antares said it best: he's had such success designing for real bodies...
Yeah, I've never been a huge Christian fan. Sure, he grew on me a little, but not enough to think he's the next big thing. He needs to grow up some and look beyond his narrow aesthetic, get more experience, stop the personality train and actually work on his designs.
But, whatev. I'm one voice in a sea of millions.
8/19/08, 9:24 PM
Honeys, I was Beyond Fierce when I was pregnant with my two sons. And it wasn't pretty. I'm with Ms. Flyover....
Tee hee hee! Hahahahahahahaha! Snort!
Yuh, as if.
8/19/08, 9:30 PM
We all know dresses can look great in sketch and look great. We've also seen a great looking sketch translated almost exactly in the garment and it looks less than great. I think the point is that a beautiful sketch- great look on a great body- does not equate to a great looking garment. I wish Christian much success, but his track record with non-model body celebs (Kim Locke, Whoppi, a few others) suggests his maternity wear may be less than flattering on the average pregnant woman.
That said, other PR winners have done a lot. Chloe has a line on QVC and a line of bags available at several bags. Jay and Jeffrey have had less notice. However, Bravo really promoted him in a way they did for no other winner before. That promotion and his personality and style (he had the right style at the right time) has meant a great deal of opportunity for him.
Given the attributes of most of his work on PR and since, I don't think cynicism for his work is out of line. Nor do I think it automatically means anyone wishes him ill. I wish him good luck, but I'm not sanguine about his maternity wear. This drawings are promising, but there are only a few of them.
8/19/08, 11:27 PM
Wow, when did Rungay turn into the biggest group of Siriano haters on the web? I can't even read the comments everytime he's mentioned here because I know how vitriolic they're going to be. There have been FAR worse designers on the show that are much more worthy of the hate. At least the kid is making something of himself.
8/19/08, 11:46 PM
I like these sketches. I would have loved some cute maternity dresses like these when I was expecting, instead of the sacks that were available back then.
8/20/08, 3:53 AM
"Now remember girls, don't eat"... to paraphrase Christian's words to his models. Oh yes, that's the guy to understand woman's bodies and maternity in general. He's going to do a few nips and tuck on someone else's patterns basically - like he would understand the concept of a maternity line..please.
This latest episode of PR was just the end, boring and stupid and insulting. Even Tim drops down a notch for continuing like a shill, rather than rise above. It seems they all looked to a MySpace audience of Siriano followers rather than keep any idea of what PR was about and recharge it. THAT's why they didn't advertise it.
You really bought something Lifetime...

fashion sketches don't just represent an "idealized body" (which apparently is size -2 and extra long legs - that is naive talk. They represent how the FASHION DESIGNER chooses to get across their design, by emphasizing certain relationships between the clothing design concept sketch, and the human figure it will correspond with. To do a maternity line and just not even TRY to include either a swelled abdomen, larger thighs and ass, or -- BREASTS swelling up (ooh sorry Christian, they exist) is borderline hate of woman's body. It isn't "ideal sketches", god, what fashion industry b.s. still spews out. Maybe that's why people got tired of Christian vs Jay so fast. Christian is just pure out and out industry. He has no questions, no soul, no interest except in thin celebrities like Posh and 15 min of acting funny. He could care less about anything with woman's figures. Just compare what Jay says about the choice of materials and cut in his QVC line clip shown here, about a tendency some woman have weight in certain areas and so on and he thought of the cut accordingly... it just isn't about a fashion sketch being "ideal".
8/20/08, 4:07 AM
Well, I for one, am totally pleased that ANY of the designers from this show get OPPORTUNITIES. And that new fashion gets out there amidst the mass produced lookalikes we normally see cloned from store to store.
I wish Christian well with this!
8/20/08, 4:17 AM
Aw. Heidi would look cute in these. She should get pregnant again.
It's sorta fun imagining what it might've been like if Christian had been in Season 5.
He either would've won most challenges or he'd have cracked early without the real competition that kept him on his toes in Season 4.
Looking forward to seeing his collection. Will he be in the tents? Has he got money-backing now?

8/20/08, 8:12 AM
Wow , ummm. I was thinking the same thing as bill. DoES Princess Puffysleeves know where babies come from?
I like the designs well enough, but ummm NOOOOOOO!
8/20/08, 8:49 AM
ms_flyover: I think the line will be great for size 2 women with no tits, personal trainers and gala events to go to. Women shaped like boys are his target audience, and these clothes will be great for them.
Um, haven't you just described the entire fashion industry? Fashion hasn't been for women with real breasts and actual hips in decades. (I'm not talking fat women, just women shaped like women: you know, with curves.) Christian is just designing for the same stick figure the rest of the fashion industry is designing for: a 12-year old boy with missing boy bits.
Just because I haven't been able to fit fashionable clothes over my Cs since seventh grade doesn't make those clothes less beautiful. It just makes fashionable clothes yet another something that I can't have but still admire, like a Rembrandt or a hydrogen BMW.
Get over it.

Wow. Based on some sketches, which are always idealized/exaggerated in the concept phase, you have decided that Christian Siriano has a "borderline hate" of a woman's body? Ridiculous and unfair, not to mention... borderline hateful. Can't we be happy for PRW alums instead of pouring vitriol all over them? I think it's wonderful that Christian wants to make maternity wear more fashionable, because god knows it needs all the help it can get.
8/20/08, 9:38 AM
I think the new season causes everyone to be "over" the previous winner. I think it's kind of cool, but wouldn't this have been a cool move for Laura to do?
8/20/08, 9:42 AM
We're happy for Christian and pleased to see that he's taking every opportunity he can get. We also think the designs look pretty. We're not sure exactly why there's so much vitriol aimed his way, but we can't say we agree.
8/20/08, 10:38 AM
Wow - lots of aggro on this page - not sure why.
I think the dresses are cute. Not sure about 4 inch wedges but hey, I own a pair and if I got pregnant, I'd probably try to wear it anyways =)
I love christian so I'm happy for him. Lighten up gang - maternity wear is different from what other designers are doing. Don't be haters =)
8/20/08, 10:43 AM
i think they look great and i'm just happy that christian is doing something!
8/20/08, 11:24 AM
Very interesting. Good for him!
8/20/08, 12:26 PM
Did ya miss the part that stated that Christian had designed the line with two woman friends who own a successful maternity clothing line? Perhaps those two ladies have a better idea of what THEIR customers want in 2008. I agree with TLo, the looks are pretty. Sketches are just that~sketches. When a designer is sketching for a specific client, that person's body can be reflected in the sketch. When a designer is sketching for a generic customer, he/she draws the design on the type of body a model would have that will wear it in the runway show. Should he have designed the looks for a woman in her fifth month..her seventh..how about her ninth? Everyone knows what happens to a woman's breasts and belly during pregnancy; the extent of the expansion varies dramatically from figure to figure. Cut Christian some slack! The silhouettes are beautiful and feminine, very Goddess/Earth Mother. I think, surprisingly, that they show Christian's true appreciation of the female form in 'full bloom', not his disdain.
8/20/08, 1:23 PM
Yikes. Everyone took their fair share of bitch pills this morning! Or maybe everyone posting is preggers and hormones have gone thru the ROOF
8/20/08, 1:24 PM
p.s. I also do not think the vitriol is aimed at Christian per se...I've been noticing more and more on the comment pages that when there are disagreements, people are taking them personal and go to extreme measures to prove the other poster wrong. What happened to respect of differing opinions people?!?
8/20/08, 2:15 PM
I think this is a very smart move! It seems like, as ridiculous as this may sound, pregnancy is very "hip" these days. Lots of starlets and wannabe starlets owning their pregnancies (even, in the case of some, *coughcoughparishiltoncoughcough*) seeking to create the illusion that they're pregnant.

The first really said it best.
8/20/08, 6:29 PM
Good on him. Boy's got talent and business savvy. I wish him well.
And my sis-in-law who's about 4'8" wore her 3" heels up to birth of my nephew. Crazy, but since I'm 5'9" I guess I can't understand.
8/20/08, 9:58 PM
Why's everyone dissing on him for this? Weren't people going on about how he was only designing for skinny people? Well, now it looks like he's designing some lovely dresses for maternity.
He has input from people that produce a pregnancy line--I think he knows what he's doing.
8/20/08, 11:52 PM
If I'm understanding this correctly most people's problem with Christian is that he does not "design for the female body." So the kid tries to do a maternity line and no one is in favor. Keeping in mind his age and experience I would think a chance to grow and try new things would be commendable but that's just me. I think some of the looks are really cute. Just because my DDs would not be flattered by an empire look doesn't mean that there aren't plenty of girls who would. Quite frankly big boobs are going to look like Molly Moocow in pregnancy no matter what you wear. JMO
8/21/08, 9:11 AM
FIERCE for Moody Mamas?
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
That's hilarious.
8/21/08, 2:30 PM
Looks kinda drapy -- maybe some influence from luscious Rami? Oh how I miss him . . .
8/21/08, 2:52 PM
hm, wow. i've never been a pregnant lady so i know nothing on this front, but i LOVE that white two-piece outfit on the right in the first sketch. as a somewhat pudgy girl, i'd wear that in a heartbeat (though i'd prefer it in maybe black or brown). it's probably look awful on me, but so do most things.
and um, wow! jeez. Christian's aesthetic isn't mine, but it's still a good one. and this collection isn't meant to be sold at Target; Moody Mamas produces "luxurious" items (that i bet are not cheap to buy). also, i see pregnant women in heels on a semi-regular basis, usually dressed for work.
good for Christian, for trying something different. and that white two-piece outfit really is lovely.
8/21/08, 8:05 PM
I think it's cool.
If I were pregnant and had lots of disposable income, I would totally buy some of these clothes.
I for one applaud Christian for broadening his realm of experience.
8/21/08, 11:41 PM
You know, I think it's the whole TV show image of what a fashion designer is supposed to act like...Christian's character is a caracature of the profession. And that's okay...but none of his stuff for the finale was that great...yes, it showed a lot of labor, but it was so passe. And also, I think LA Fashion is screwing over the industry--because they have NO sense of the seaons. Give me back New York!
8/21/08, 11:58 PM
Also, Christian's hair albeit original is awFUL. What is going on with all this bad hair stuff...
E.G., Fauxhawks really are THE most unbecoming styles on the planet--EVER, EVER in the history of haircuts. It should've stopped with Beckam--he had a personalized tossled look, but somewhere along the line it just looks stupid...It is totally not worth emulating...DOESN'T WORK, GUYS (of all orientations!), ON THE SHOW OR OTHERWISE! You are looking like oversize Kewpie Dolls & PeeWee Hermans. PLEASE STOP IT. NOW. --A GRATEFUL WORLD.

Yes, that was Rami's diva name. And he is licious, not Blayne!
