I TOTALLY agree. That costume was definitely the best....And I thought I was the only one who noticced that everything Chloe made was blue..
That is just beautiful and very, very well made. Grace, wow did she really take that pose at the end of the runway? She must be a dancer too. With a little tweaking this design could be a several thousand dollar cocktail dress.
This was the best, but it would probably require some modification to be worn in competition. I'm not a figure skater (far from it) but the layers and movement they provide would detract from the shape of the body as the skater is in motion. This would be especially apparent in certain spins.Making the layers much shorter from the neckline down through the bodice and then letting them lengthen as they went past the hips would have worked beautifully.
As I recall Grace didn't just pose in attitude, she did a turn in that postion also. I thought that was smart thing to do and helped to sell the functionality and aesthetic of the outfit.I though how isadora duncan of her. Yes Chloe and Grace were a great match.Frank
I agree that this was the nicest from a design standpoint, but I don't see it as a skating dress. They are all form-fitting from the top to a maybe a small skirt. The judges want to see your "line" which this dress would hide. Loved it, saw why it couldn't win.
hey im a figure skater, and I have to say that this was the most innovative skating dresses I have seen in a VERY LONG TIME!And it looked turquoise, not blue to me.I agree that the flaps might need to be pinned down so she doesn't look like a showgirl flapping around, and given that Grace is almost 2 feet taller than Sasha might need one heck of a re-fit. That being said, while Emmett's looked like a skating dress, this one actually fit and had a unique design. And about the fabric flag over Grace's head... that was so random and ruined the effect for me.It was so fun to watch the designers claim they knew what they were doing when they were just so clueless... it was actually cute.If they ever do a costume challenge again hopefully my costume lady will have been picked for the show and will just blast the rest of them away with a cannon.
OHMYGOD I died and went to gay heaven. That first picture is fucking gorgeous, Grace is fucking gorgeous, that outfit is fucking gorgeous...it's fabulosity overdose!!
Grace looked amazing! She is such a great model. Of course, the outfit was also gorgeous. Chloe should've been the winner.
One of the best garments of the entire season!I really didn't understand Sasha's implication that Grace has curves.
True dat. Grace is about as curvy as Sasha. As for the illusion netting, it's really not much more than Kimmie Meissner's or Alissa Cziny's long program dresses from this season. LOVED this dress and totally agree it should have won.
Oh, c'mon guys - it looks a little like a Christmas tree. A glorious Chloe blue Christmas tree.
I liked that and I agree it was loads better than Z's horror of a costume. Doesn't it seem like every once in a while, the judges get together and decide "We've got to give him/her one" ? Because that was a blerk win, almost as crazy as Vinnie's in PR3.That said, I don't really like the skin-like meshing on Grace's bust or back. The costume could've been looped around the neck without strangling the skater and fitted at the back with some lycra-type material, couldn't it? I thought the entier faux skin somehow aged that beautiful, light blue slip of a dress. Could anyone who does sew let me know if I'm right or not? I still don't get how Sasha Cohen coul've chosen Zulema's washed-out, bleh white, vulgar outfit... Then again, I didn't get Nicky Hilton's choice either. I guess celebrities aren't the best fashion judges around.
Sorry boys, but I have to disagree. This was lovely, but it didn't seem very skatery to me, and I can definitely see the Christmas tree comparison.
Couldn't agree more...girl was robbed on this challenge.
Grace is very professional and a great model to boot. She wore everything Chloe made with so much grace and elegance. She's still one of my favorite models on the show.
I absolutely love the color. Grace looks DIVINE!
Chloe’s ice skating dress is like a fresh of breath air. It's beautiful!
I think that Sasha was afraid it would make her look short and fat. I can see short but fat?
Chloe's dress was a masterpiece. I loved it!
"eric3000 said... One of the best garments of the entire season! I really didn't understand Sasha's implication that Grace has curves. "I agree 100% on both points. This was a beautiful garment and it looked perfect on Grace. Did Grace study ballet? That first shot is gorgeous.
I don't understand why everyone creams their pants over Grace. I'm not going to say that she's a -bad- model or anything, but those screengrabs make her look ungainly and alien. Of all the models that made it to OFW with the final four, Grace is probably my least favourite. Well... I guess Clarissa could give her a run for her money.
The fact that she picked Zulema's over Chloe's just demonstrates the bizarro world of figure skating fashion. One problem with judging these costumes is that the proportions are totally off. Figure skaters are very small. So these costumes look insane (or more insane than usual) on these tall models. Emmett's skirt wouldn't have looked so short on a smaller figure. This dress wouldn't resemble a tree on a shorter woman.
I think the netting in the back is the only disturbing element, but my God compared to Zulema's dress, this should be in the Hall of Fame. It was so delicate and would have looked nice on the ice.
Gorge Cubed! There was an audible gasp in the room when Grace made her entrance. And when she moved down the runway-- Girl, we fell out! Too avant garde for the very ordinary Miss Sasha("I want to be an actress but would not know a smile if it bit me"). Someone will take up the mantel (someone much more interesting; maybe an ice dancer or Johnny Weir)of that design, mark my words!
Loved Chloe's outfit! I really thought that this looked most like a actual, quasi-modern ice skating costume, even though Emmett's was beautifully done. Why in the world Miss Cohen would pick that anemic ivory over this gorgeous blue is beyond me. More proof that money cannot buy taste....
I loved this outfit then and I still love it now. It is gorgeous!! This was Sarah's chance to wear something unconventional and innovative. Too bad she chose Zulema's!
don't say that...Sasha liked this one. This IS chloe-blue, but as heidi said, i think she jumps out of her comfort zone too.I always love this foreign little girl's work! she got robbed again and again! why???Grace....what can I say...I love her!!!
This was a KaBAM of a dress! Grace is so...well...graceful! It's well-made, graceful and cute! Adore it.
love it! So gorgeous and innovative. Unfortunately illusion netting (so gross) seems to be a necessary evil in skating. At least I know the proper name for it now. Thanks boys! Grace is fantastic - she reminds me of one of those models from the 50s, like Dovima.CP
I agree that this should have won on grounds of originality and beauty. But it's pure speculation how it would look and move during a skating routine. It could be wonderful and it could be awful--there's no way to know without seeing it. Since the show aired some time ago, and since I've yet to see anything like this show up in the skating world, it may be that this design doesn't move right for a skating routine. I have seen costumes with multiple layers of fringe coming down the body of the costume, and that doesn't look so good during spins. As for the netting, I don't think that's a fair criticism in this context. There's a lot of netting like that on any skating costume which shows "skin" on the torso, back, and shoulder areas--it's probably a necessity to hold the costume in place during a routine. However, people are generally seeing it at a distance where it's not so visible.
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS GARMENT. LOVE LOVE LOVE CHLOE!!!!Now that I'm calm again, I also have to say that I don't mind that Chloe makes a lot of things in "Chloe Blue." We already knew that Chloe was a smart one - she knows what works (the color looks so gorgeous on Grace with her complexion and coloring), and she sticks with it. Plus, I always love the construction of her garments. They always look so well tailored and with such interesting lines... they're just so... pretty. That's all.
It was the best outfit by far. I began to observe Chloe more closely after she created this design. Grace looks fabulous in part because she is 12 feet tall. Tiny Sasha might have had a point about looking like a tree; but to choose Zulema's white horror, well, it just goes to prove that skaters have no fashion sense.
I don't see why they couldn't have given the designers a little extra time, given them Sasha's measurements, let them fit each one on her, and then had her try each one around the ice. *That* would have been the way to judge them! The whole "Let's try it on a six foot tall Amazon and see which one Sasha likes better" thing didn't work for me.Anne
Hi People. Thanks to the PRgayBoys for sending me this blog. Now I can comment on myself. "Oh my god, she looks emaciated... Throw that dog a bone." Man, I AM boney, but that lighting is just sooooo horrific. Makes the dress look good though! ... and that dress WAS immaculately constructed, not an error on it (like everything she did). Would make a beautiful cocktail dress, without the meshing of course and with a couple more layers of length. The color is really delicate and lifts my spirits somehow. Zulima's dress was nice but, gurl, she didn't send anything down the runway that didn't have some serious sewing issues. Being trapped backstage with all the garments on every challenge, I would know. But in hers and everyones defense, most real designers don't stich a single thread themselves in their collections. They just design. The main thing I didn't get is why Z NEVER accomadated Rachel's bootie. She knew who she'd be working with every time and still chose to ignore this factor. Her being a woman of color, made this extra dissapointing to me, and it was just rude and humiliating to Rachel who is stunningly beautiful in person, such a makeup beauty campaign face. I always caught myself staring at her and it wasn't just boredom. She's captivating.
Putting this dress on that lanky anorexic is just ugly. When she stretched out her arms and legs it looked like a white spider moving in for the kill. And while beautifully constructed, I doubt that it would look good on the ice. The ruffles will obscure the body lines and are too short to be pretty when it flares during spins.
